Chapter 1: New Company

Chapter Text

“My dear brother,
I am writing to you as of now because I believe I owe you an explanation and an apology. All our lives we’d been different. We could never truly bond as brothers and there was nothing I could do to change that. All these years love was something I didn’t want to feel, I despised it. It was just a sick tool that anybody would use just to squeeze their way into this sick system. That was until I met someone whom I hold very near now. Someone who, I believe in normal terms, I would say I love. It all began last summer,”

“God, just when I feel like actually leaving the palace it has to fucking rain!” Yoongi shouts, stomping through the palace in his muddy riding boots up to his room. His servant Jimin hurried after him.

“Jimin, prepare a bath for me. God this day has been fucking awful.” He sighed and Jimin nodded silently before hurrying ahead of Yoongi towards his room.

“Oh and while I’m bathing don’t let anybody bother me. I can’t stand to hear another lecture coming from some old guy who seems to think I’ve done something wrong.” Again Jimin nodded and scurried off.

Yoongi wandered the endless hallways and stairways until he made it to his bedroom. He stepped inside setting his riding crop on the side table.

“Jimin is the bath ready?” Yoongi called putting and a few seconds later the servant stepped out from the bathroom and nodded.

“Alright thank you, you may leave.” Yoongi dismissed the young man and shut the door behind him. He slipped his gloves off first and placed them in his desk. He would’ve continued to strip off his clothes if it hadn’t been for the stack of letters which caught his eye.

“Are you serious!” He shouted. Yoongi knew exactly what each of those letters' contents were. They were all marriage proposals.

“All these old fucks so desperate to get into the court. Disgusting.” He scoffed making a mental note to tell Jimin to toss them all later. He walked towards his bathroom, slowly stripping out of his clothes on his way discarding pieces each step of the way. He never had servants directly help him bathe and dress. He hated the feeling of hands that weren’t his own touching his body. He felt violated and anxious. Yoongi knew why. There was an incident that happened years before and it still affected Yoongi to this day.

He shivered at the thought before quickly shaking the memory out of his head and carrying on with his bath. He stepped into the warm water, his body being engulfed in a cozy feeling. He sighed as it felt so relaxing to only be able to hear his breath and the sounds the water would make when he’d move his body, even if only a little bit.

Most of Yoongi’s alone time was spent thinking out loud or settling into the beautiful quiet he adored so much. Occasionally he’d find himself reading a new piece of literature or spending hours at a time at the stables with his horse. He didn’t even need to be riding, sometimes he’d just spend time there as an excuse to get out of the stuffy palace he called home.

He quietly continued his bath, silently scrubbing away his troubles of the day. He stayed in the warm bath for quite some time, his eyes almost shutting close. If it weren’t for the knock at his bedroom door.

“God, I thought I asked Jimin to make sure nobody bothered me.” Yoongi sighed, leaving the bath and patting himself dry. After which he grabbed his robe from the ivory side table and tied it loosely at his waist.

“Who is it!” Yoongi shouted as he crossed the threshold between his bathroom and bedroom. He heard no response so it must have been Jimin.

“Jimin, what is it now?” Yoongi swung his door open annoyed.

Jimin just stared, he didn’t dare speak unless he was directly told to, especially when speaking to Yoongi.

“You may speak, what is it?” Yoongi sat at his vanity, combing his wet hair.

“The King wishes to speak with you.” Jimin said timidly.

“Did he say why?” Yoongi asked, placing his brush down and checking himself in the mirror.

“No sir, he said that he wishes to see you in his study.” Jimin kept his head low.

“Okay, you may leave. Thank you.” Yoongi dismissed him and waited till the door shut before getting up to lock his door once more.

“I wonder what Joon wants with me?” He said thinking out loud before shrugging and turning to his closet to get dressed.

Yoongi hurriedly left his room, passing the main staircase towards the other side of the palace and to the King’s study. It was quite a far walk considering just how large their palace was. It had to be huge, it housed firstly the royal family, under that the entirety of the king’s court, and under that all the servants working for the members of the court and the family. All in all in, it could get pretty noisy and what Yoongi hated the most was when it got too noisy. Speaking of noise.

“Yoongi! Will you be attending my party tonight? It’ll be in the rose garden, the one with the fountain.”

It was Jackson, Duke of Bourbon. Probably the loudest and most annoying member of the court and somebody Yoongi didn’t enjoy associating himself with.

“Look Jackson I’m quite busy right now, I have business to discuss with my brother.” Yoongi rolled his eyes before turning back towards the direction of his destination.

“Well I was just wondering if you’d be coming, some ladies have been asking about you. You know about marriage and such.” Jackson winked and nudged his shoulder.

“Jackson no. If I have to hear about marriage one more time I think I’ll go absolutely mad. I will not be attending and tell those whores that I would never consider marrying somebody as low as them.” He turned and left. Jackson stood in awe. He always tried to invite Yoongi to his parties. He was the king’s brother so he wasn’t the only member of the court trying to get close to him.

“It’s not like I actually wanted a brat like you to come to my party anyway.” Jackson scoffed, mumbling under his breath.

Yoongi’s anger was fueled even more now. All this talk about marriage.

“Marriage my ass! All they want from me is my position!” He said angrily, stomping into the foyer leading to the study.

The doormen opened the doors when they saw Yoongi approaching the study.

“Ah Yoongi you’re here, yes there’s something I must discuss with you, would you mind shutting the door?” Namjoon said, smiling and offering his brother a seat.

Namjoon was the current king of France. Ever since they were young boys, it had always been Namjoon in the spotlight. For he was the first son. For all of Yoongi’s life he was heavily shadowed by his brother. He never participated in the boyish activities like hunting, or fighting, as his father wouldn’t allow his younger son to participate seeing as Namjoon was to be king, not Yoongi. Instead Yoongi grew up in a very feminine environment.

His mother always wished she’d had a daughter instead so Yoongi was forced into this life. He’d be put into dresses and feminine clothes, taught proper manners that only ladies would need to know, and sometimes be forced to roam around the palace in the feminine get up. A lot of those events stuck with him, especially making himself feel pretty when he’d slip on one of his dresses he had hidden away in his closet. Of course he didn’t tell anyone other than his servant Jimin. He was the one picking up the dresses and delivering them secretly to Yoongi’s room. It was Yoongi’s worst fear that someone might find out about him so he doesn’t dress up quite often.

Only a few people knew about his mother dressing him up when he was younger, but in the king’s court rumours spread like wildfire and soon Yoongi became the laughing stock of his family. His life was shit despite their family name. Yet those years were his happiest. He was never allowed outside much, the only times he’d ever go out were to the garden with his mother.

In the garden Yoongi felt were some of his happiest moments growing up. He caught a bug and when he went to show the nanny she screamed and ran away, leaving Yoongi to roam around by himself. He can remember so vividly and sounds and sights that day. The smell of the roses and the little droplets of water from the storm from the night before. It was all so beautiful.

“I assume you’ve been receiving letters regarding your marriage situation?” Namjoon said, taking a seat across from his brother.

“Maybe I have, what’s it to you?” Yoongi asked, tapping his foot lightly on the ground.

“Well were there any ladies that may have caught your eye? You know when I was your age I already had a fiancé.” Namjoon boasted and stared, awaiting his brother's response.

“Is this some joke. Did somebody fail to let me know today was ‘Remind Yoongi about fucking marriage’ day!” He pouted crossing his arms.

“Oh it seems I’ve hit a nerve.” Namjoon chuckled.

“Well Yoongi I am just looking out for our family name. For you to be a part of the royal family it’s quite unusual at your age to still be unmarried.” Namjoon shrugged.

“Just wouldn’t want a repeat of your childhood to happen again. That was quite crazy, you wouldn’t want to prove them right hmm?” Namjoon stood from his chair and maneuvered around his large desk and walked slowly towards where Yoongi sat.

“Wouldn’t want them thinking you actually enjoyed pretending to be a girl, that you’re refusing marriage because you’re waiting for perhaps, a man? To come and take you away hmm?” Namjoon said barely above a whisper, his face inches from Yoongi’s.

Yoongi sat there, tears rolling down his cheeks and a nauseous feeling building in his stomach. He quickly shook his head. Of course he didn’t want that. He didn’t want to become the laughing stock again. It was awful, days on end he wished it was all over. But every morning he would wake up and be reminded constantly of who he was. He was only the second son. There was nothing he could do to rise to the top, to change who he was. He couldn’t escape.

“No, no I don’t want that.” Yoongi wiped his tears away but more kept falling. His mind was clouded with the insults he heard people say about him. He couldn’t breathe.

“If that’s not what you want then you better man the fuck up and accept a marriage proposal!” Namjoon said slamming his fist on his desk.

“It’s embarrassing knowing we share the same blood. You’re nothing without me now that mother and father are gone.” Namjoon grumbled and threw a sealed envelope in Yoongi’s direction.

“Another letter I received earlier today. I’ll give you some time to decide. You can accept getting married or of course you can drop your position and leave. It wouldn’t make much of a difference here so when you’re ready to decide, stop by.” Namjoon scoffed and returned to his seat behind the desk returning to his work.

“Leave, I don’t want to be seen with you.” Namjoon demanded and Yoongi scurried out of the room, still a teary mess.

He stormed down the hall quickly, hoping nobody would see him in this state. He passed by Jimin and stopped for a second.

“Jimin, come with me.” He said, rubbing at his eyes. The servant followed obediently.

They arrived at his bedroom and Yoongi immediately ran towards his bed. He laid there silently for a few minutes calming himself down. Jimin stood by the door quietly waiting for Yoongi to direct him.

“Jimin, fetch me a glass of water and a new book from the library. After that please leave me be until further notice.” Yoongi said, sighing and turning in his bed. He didn’t even bother changing out of his day wear.

Yoongi has been reading for over an hour now. He assumed dinner had already been served by the distant combination of voices talking over each other. He sighed. He was feeling a little hungry. He had skipped lunch and had only had the glass of water after he returned from the talk with his brother.

Suddenly he heard two knocks at his door.

“If it’s Jimin you may enter!” He shouted hoping the servant had brought him food.

The door opened and indeed it was Jimin holding a tray with a plate of food and a glass of wine.

“Ah Jimin, wonderful timing.” Yoongi said, smiling and getting up from his bed.

“You know Jimin, nothing would get done for me if it weren’t for you.” Yoongi said smiling.

“You may speak if you must.” Yoongi took a sip from his wine.

“Of course, your highness, thank you.” Jimin smiled shyly.

“Ah there is one thing.” Jimin said.

“What is it?” Yoongi said between bites.

“Monsieur Jackson was asking about your attendance to his party.” Jimin said shyly. He’d overheard their conversation earlier by the main staircase. Jimin always followed Yoongi around. His only orders really only came from him so he made it his duty to follow quietly.

“Ah that again. I already told him I wouldn’t be making an appearance. If he pesters you again please let him know that my answer is final.” Yoongi sighed.

“Yes your highness, I will.” Jimin nodded and returned to his spot by the door.

“Have you eaten yet Jimin?” Yoongi asked, bouncing his leg.

“No your highness, we eat once the feast is over.” Jimin was a bit flustered, he didn’t expect a duke, especially one of Yoongi’s position to ask him, a servant, a question such as that.

“Oh? I always wondered when you all found the time. You do so much around the palace, it’s amazing to me, really.” Yoongi said, placing his utensils back onto the tray.

“Well I’m finished eating now, you can take the tray.” Yoongi said and Jimin nodded coming over to do as he was told.

“I think this will be all for tonight. But tomorrow morning please have my formal wear ready. I believe there will be new court members and I would like to make a good impression” Yoongi got up and made his way to his closet to grab his night clothes.

“Yes, I'll have them laid out.” Jimin said his last words for the night and left the room just as quietly as he had arrived.

The next morning he woke to the sound of his door creaking open and light footsteps entering the room.

“Jimin? If so you may speak.” Yoongi said groggily, rubbing at his eyes.

“Yes your highness, I have your formal clothes here.” Jimin smiled, placing the clothes on the chair.

“Oh okay. I’ll get ready in a minute. Please prepare my breakfast and knock twice when you’ve come back.” Yoongi said, turning and placing his feet on the cold floor.

“Yes your highness.” Jimin nodded and left.

Yoongi thought about who might be joining the court. Newcomers never really came around. There weren’t many opportunities so he assumed they had connections.

He dressed quickly. After which he checked himself in his mirror and fixed his hair a bit before bearing two light knocks at the door. He ate his breakfast a little bit faster than he would most days. Something was telling him today could change his life.

He dismissed Jimin and left his room. Yoongi made his way towards the main staircase. The palace’s main butler, Jungkook, stood at attention.

“Jungkook, who are our guests today?” Yoongi asked, staring at the closed doors.

“We’re expecting three brothers from a wealthy farming family. They’re actually joining the court.” Jungkook turned to smile at the young duke.

“Ah is that so? Do you know how they got in? In the past much wealthier families have been denied so what's their deal?” Yoongi thought for a second of any other possibilities.

“Mm I’ve only heard rumour monsieur, nothing official from the king yet.” Jungkook turned back to face the doors.

“What rumors have you heard?” Yoongi asked.

“Well from what I hear, the eldest brother may be the king’s ‘mistress’ in some sense.” Jungkook spoke barely above a whisper so that only Yoongi would hear.

“Really? That’s quite the rumor. Have you heard anything else?” Yoongi gasped hearing the words.

“Mm not really. Only that they’re become quite popular in the livestock community. The youngest son has no experience whatsoever in the court though. But the two older brothers have had a little exposure.” Jungkook nodded and as if on cue the huge doors opened to three handsome brothers.

“Ah you’ve all made it.” Jungkook descended the stairs to greet the brothers. Yoongi remained at the top of the stairs simply watching. That was until one of the brothers waved in his direction. Yoongi looked behind him to find no one.

‘Is he waving at me?’ Yoongi thought to himself. He slowly raised his hand and waved confused.

The other smiled before his attention returned to the butler.

“I’ll show you all to your rooms so please follow me. I’ll have servants bring your luggage to your rooms respectively once you’ve settled in.” He smiled charmingly before beckoning them to follow him.

Yoongi stood in awe when they began heading in the direction toward Namjoon’s side of the palace.

“Monsieur Jin I’ll show you to your room first.” Yoongi heard Jungkook day and the rest of his words became distant.

‘Maybe the rumor is true.’ Yoongi thought before returning to his room. The exciting part of the day was over so he might as well return to his room and read.

He sat in his room for over an hour reading his book. It was always silent in his room. There was an empty room across the hall from him, but nobody occupied it. Not many people wanted it considering Yoongi’s reputation. Over the years the rumors have died down, but since Namjoon became king after the death of his father a new spotlight has begun to shine on Yoongi. Both pertaining to his past and how he could be used for people's own selfish reasons.

Not once had he ever met somebody outside of the court who genuinely cared about Yoongi. They all wanted something from him, but he didn’t let them take it.

As he turned the page he heard distant voices from down the hall.

‘Nobody usually ever passes through here?’ Yoongi thought, placing his book down and placing his ear on the door and listening.

“These are your private quarters monsieur Hoseok.” He heard Jungkook say and then the slight cream of the door as it opened. Then he heard another voice, a new one, gasp.

“This is really all mine? I get to live here?” Yoongi assumed this was one of the brothers.

“Yes monsieur. I’ll send a servant up with your luggage in a bit so please settle in.”

After that Yoongi heard footsteps become distant every second. Then he heard a door shut.

“What a strange man?” Yoongi said, thinking about how excited the man in question had been. He returned to his book and began reading again. After a few minutes he heard footsteps again and a knock at a door that wasn’t his.

“Oh hello, is this my stuff?” Yoongi heard Hoseok say.

“Why aren’t you saying anything? You can speak with me.” Yoongi could tell the man was smiling as he talked.

“Oh yes, I apologize monsieur. Yes this is all your luggage I believe.” It was Jimin.

“Oh alright thank you.” Yoongi then heard a knock at his own door a little after.

“Jimin? You may open the door.” Yoongi shouted, standing up to meet Jimin at the door. And to also see if he could catch a closer glimpse of his new neighbor.

“What is it?” Yoongi said, peering behind Jimin. He could see the man much clearer now. He was very handsome in Yoongi’s eyes and he blushed a little seeing just how flawless he looked this close.

“Will you be attending dinner tonight, your highness?” Jimin asked, turning to glance behind him to see what Yoongi had been staring at.

“Uhm yes, no need to bring my dinner up.” He turned his attention back to the servant in front of him.

“Alright your highness.” Jimin said before nodding and taking his leave.

Across the hall Hoseok has been bringing his luggage in. He only had two big bags, but it was all quite heavy.

“How did that small man carry this stuff up all those stairs?” Hoseok thought out loud amazed.

He heard the servant speaking with the man who now would be living across from him. Hoseok returned to his doorway to catch a glimpse of who his neighbor was.

He stared at the black haired man. His eyes were cat-like and serious. His lips looked so soft and lush, slightly ajar so that a bit of teeth peeled out from under them. He was so breathtakingly beautiful.

They made eye contact as Hoseok stared in awe. When their eyes met the other immediately tended up and blushed. Soon after Hoseok was met with a slammed door.

“How splendid, my neighbor is the most beautiful fucking man in France.” He deadpanned to himself before shutting his door as well.

Yoongi shut his door, breathless.

‘God, does he know?!’ Yoongi thought, assuming Hoseok had heard about Yoongi’s past and all. He could feel himself becoming more anxious by the second. He rushed over to his bathroom and splashed some water on his face. His face felt hot after they’d stared at each other for what felt like hours.

After splashing cold water on his face for a few minutes he felt better and ignored anything his brain had to say pertaining to the Hoseok situation.

“Why should it even matter? He’s just another member of the court, he’s probably like the rest of them.” Yoongi sighed before returning to his bedroom, this time leaving his book at the desk and flopping onto his bed.

He laid there staring at his ceiling until his eyes began to close and he’d fallen asleep. After at least a few hours of sleeping there was a knock at the door.

The frequent knocks woke Yoongi and he rubbed at his eyes checking the clock on his ivory side table. It read 1:00.

“Who is bothering me at one in the afternoon?” Yoongi said grumpily, getting up from his bed and approaching the door.

“Jimin, what is it-“ Yoongi opened the door and to his surprise it wasn’t Jimin at all. In fact, it was Hoseok.

The man stood there smiling, he didn’t speak a word.

“Oh I apologize, I thought you were a servant. Is there something you need?” Yoongi asked, a little annoyed at the sudden interaction.

“I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Hoseok, me and my brothers just recently joined the great king's court.” He smiled charmingly.

“Ah yes, I heard from the butler. Well it was nice meeting you.” Yoongi said before beginning to close his door.

“Ah wait, if it’s not too much could you show me where the garden is? This is my first time in the palace, well in any palace really.” Hoseok scratched his head and blushed embarrassed.

“I guess I could, I’m Yoongi by the way. It seems our quarters are quite close to each other so we might as well become acquainted I suppose.” Yoongi stepped through the threshold between his bedroom and the empty hallway and closed the door behind him.

“Shall we.” Yoongi said.

“After you.” Hoseok smiled and followed closely behind a flushed Yoongi.

They walked in silence side by the side. Their rooms weren’t far from the garden seeing as Yoongi specifically had it so that his quarters were quite close because of his love for the place.

“So you’re Yoongi, as in you’re the king’s brother, Yoongi?” Hoseok asked, picking up his pace so he could make some sort of eye contact with the other.

“Uh yes, I am.”

“So you’ve lived in the palace all your life?”

Yoongi nodded.

“Wow life must be spectacular in a place like this.” Hoseok said in awe.

“To some yes.” Yoongi replied, his worst memories playing through his head. He shuddered at the thought.

“You alright?” Hoseok asked, noticing the way Yoongi had reacted.

“Yes I’m fine. Anyways what is it that you want with the garden?” They took a turn down a long hallway with windows covering each side, the natural beams shining in a cascade light across the floor.

“Back at our home we have a garden, I've always adored the flowers we grew so I wanted to see if you had any I’d never seen before.” His smile beaming.

“Yes, our garden is quite lovely but it’s nothing special.” Yoongi said a bit awkwardly.

“I’m sure it’s beautiful.” Hoseok chuckled.

Yoongi began to get a feel for who this farm boy really was. He smiled a lot when he spoke and liked to keep the conversation going even when it was relatively dead.

“So how is it that you and your brothers came to become a part of my brother's court? I hear it’s quite a feat to even be considered a position.” They were almost at the garden so Yoongi decided to bring up one last question.

“Honestly I haven’t got a clue.” He chuckled softly.

“One day I was tending the garden and my father came out to tell me I am to live in the palace now. My eldest brother was explaining what was happening on the way here but I wasn’t listening.” He laughed again a little embarrassed.

“The scenery was all too beautiful to ignore so I focused more on that then whatever my brother was saying.” Hoseok said chuckling.

They arrived at the large white arch signifying the entrance to the garden.

“Well we’re here. If that’s all I’ll be taking my leave.” Yoongi said before turning to go find something better to do. It was too much to handle spending so much time with the handsome new baron.

“Ah okay it was nice meeting you Yoongi, I hope we can speak again soon.” Hoseok waved smiling before venturing into the garden alone.

⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ ˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆

“He acted as if he'd never seen a work of art before. We passed by the portrait my brother had put up of himself and he stood there in awe. How annoying.” Yoongi complained to Jimin who just stood and nodded in agreement.

“What do you think, Jimin? Have you heard any rumors yourself?” Yoongi asked.

“Rumors concerning who, your highness?”

“Hoseok.”

“I only know the information Jungkook told everyone, monsieur.” Jimin replied smiling. Yoongi sighed a little let down.

“It’s been quite some time since I showed him to the garden, has he returned yet?” Took his checked the time on his clock, it had already been a few hours and he hadn’t heard or seen the man enter his room.

“No, I have not seen or heard of his return as of now.” Jimin replied.

“Hmm and the sun is setting soon. I will go look for him, if I am to be late to supper please let Jungkook know that I am not feeling well.” Yoongi left his room, his normal walking speed picking up. Somewhere in him told him to go faster, he wanted to find Hoseok as soon as he could. It was weird.

“Hoseok! Monsieur Hoseok! Are you here?” Yoongi shouted as he entered the garden, the gravel beneath his feet making noise with every step he took. He walked toward the center garden, lined with smooth white statues and daisy’s. He shouted once again, calling for the other man but again he heard no response.

“Damn it! Hoseok!” He cupped his hands over his mouth and shouted, moving towards the left quadrant of the garden.

He walked and walked, stopping every now and again to listen for the crunching of the gravel beneath someone’s footsteps. Then, as he turned the corner back towards the center garden he heard something.

“Hoseok!”

“Uh yes! I’m here!” The gravel crunched beneath Hoseok’s feet as he sped up in the direction of the familiar voice. He turned the corner and was surprised when he collided with the owner of that voice. It was Yoongi.

“Ah your highness I’m so sorry.” Hoseok quickly stood up brushing himself off then offering his hand.

“It’s alright, be careful next time.” Yoongi averted his eyes, accepting the hand.

He brushed himself off before turning abruptly and mumbled, “Supper begins soon, so if you’d like I can accompany you there.” Yoongi said, blushing a little. Internally he blamed it on the temperature, but something told him there was another reason.

“I’d be delighted, your highness.” Hoseok beamed, smiling at the young man.

“Do you know what we’re having?” Hoseok asked excitingly.

“Truthfully I have no idea.” Yoongi replied. After that they walked silently, aside from the clack of their shoes meeting the hard cold tile beneath their feet.

The guards opened the large doors that opened to the dining room. Filled with everybody but Yoongi and Hoseok. All heads turned at the cream of the door and Yoongi stood flustered.

“Damn it.” Yoongi mumbled under his breath and beckoned Hoseok to follow him quickly to their seats. They began eating their dinner in the lively atmosphere. Other members of the court interacting and such. Hoseok noticed his oldest brother Jin speaking an awful lot with the king, whilst his other brother chatted up a few of the ladies.

“The atmosphere is quite lively. Dinners at home were ever so boring with just our family.” Hoseok said between bites and Yoongi nodded along.

“I could use a quiet night for a change.” He chuckled softly noticing the way Hoseok’s eyes sparkled as he ate.

“Is the food to your liking?” Yoongi asked while sipping his wine.

“It’s quite wonderful, really.” He smiled and happily continued to eat. Yoongi blushed and returned to his own meal.

“Everyone may I have your attention!” Namjoon called out, disrupting the conversations being held.

“I would like you all to know that today we’ve welcomed some new members into the palace.” He glanced around each brother, all of them getting the memo to stand up.

“It is with pleasure that I introduce to you all Jin, Taehyung, and Hoseok. I ask that you all welcome them warmly once you’ve all finished your supper.” Namjoon smiled warmly and the crowd applauded.

“Your brother seems like a nice guy.” Hoseok said, smiling as he sat back down.

“Trust me he’s not.” Yoongi mumbled into his cup of wine.

“What was that?”

“Nothing.”

The dinner went smoothly. Many went to greet the brothers. It wasn’t surprising that the young woman of the court had been pushed to greet Hoseok by their power hungry mothers. Yoongi noticed and scoffed, it was pitiful what those mothers would do to have a taste of a bit of power around here.

“Well ladies I am quite tired seeing as I haven’t rested yet today, I do hope we can talk again soon.” Hoseok made you an excuse, desperately needing a way out of the mob of ladies.

“You say you’re tired?” Yoongi appeared, almost out of thin air, wine cup in hand and his words slurring just a bit

“A little bit, but are you alright? You’ve been drinking wine all night long.” Hoseok places his hand on the other’s lower back to support him.

“I’m fine, I’ll walk you back to your room.” Yoongi smiled but didn’t make any motion to remove Hoseok’s hand so naturally, he left it.

It was a bit of a journey to get back to their wing. Yoongi stumbled now and again, but Hoseok was there to keep him from actually falling to the ground.

“Are you sure you hadn’t too much wine? You’re tripping over yourself.” Hoseok said, pulling Yoongi closer so he wouldn’t fall.

“I think I had a reasonable amount.” Yoongi said blushing when he was pressed closer into Hoseok’s side.

“Well I believe we’re almost to our quarters would you like me to drop you off at your door first?” They turned a corner and their rooms were just near the end of it.

“Yes please.” Yoongi said softly, he was falling asleep a little.

He walked him over, opening the door and welcoming himself in, Yoongi tucked into his chest.

“There, will you be alright for the night? Want me to get Jimin?” Hoseok asked, laying Yoongi onto his bed and fetching him a glass of water.

“No it’s alright.” His eyes were already closed when he returned.

“Wait Yoongi before you drift off.”

“Hmm” He hummed softly.

“Tomorrow afternoon, would you like to take a walk with me, in the gardens?” Hoseok asked the drunk duke.

“I would be happy to.” Yoongi smiled, his eyes still closed, but Hoseok caught the smile and it made him smile as well.

“Well then, goodnight your highness.” Hoseok chuckled, shutting the door and sighing. His belly tingled, it was like butterflies.

In his room Yoongi lay, drifting off slowly. The sober part of his brain internally screams and cries at the fact that Hoseok has asked him on a date in the garden and yet in his drunken physical state his heart burst like a million fireworks being lit off.

It was something he’d never felt before.
