Work Text:
Reading First Love Memories was always the highlight of Ameri’s week and this week was no different. Being the student council president brought too much paperwork if you asked her. Her reading sessions with Iruma were always a nice treat.
“Let’s go stargazing together Kakeru-kun!” Iruma read, in his infamous girl sounding voice.
“Stargazing?” Ameri questioned.
“It’s where you go and look at the stars! Sometimes with a telescope other times just with your eyes!”
“Interesting…”
Iruma looked at Ameri, puzzled. Did such a concept not exist in the Netherworld? He had only gone stargazing once himself but technically speaking, he was always stargazing if he lived under the stars. Iruma suddenly had the urge to take Ameri stargazing. It would be just like the battler party and the fireworks! Except this time, he hoped that nothing bad would happen.
When Iruma got home that day, the first thing he did was ask Opera if they had a telescope lying around somewhere. They gave Iruma a puzzled look at first for such a strange request but ultimately just sighed and nodded their head. Iruma smiled one of his trademark smiles and went to his room to prepare for their outing.
He has asked Ameri if he could take home the current volume so he could "read ahead" and to his surprise, she said yes. Iruma ran his thumb down the spine of the book and absentmindedly turned to the page where Rin asked if Kakeru wanted to go stargazing. He remembered working on this chapter quite fondly as the team actually went stargazing to get a better idea of what they were going to do with this chapter.
Iruma started scribbling furiously the game plan for the night. Nothing could go wrong this time. He felt awful about what happened at the battler party and this would surely make up for it. At least, that's what he thought.
Eventually, the night of the stargazing came along. Iruma had called up Ameri for "something important" and was quite nervous she'd say no.
"What's this all about Iruma?"
"I... have an exam tomorrow and... I really need some help!" Iruma choked out. It was the best lie he could come up with and it was painful to lie any more.
"Couldn't you have asked your butler for help?"
Iruma choked again, "I uh... Opera-san is great and all but... well uh... I think you're better at explaining things!"
Iruma swore he heard some sort of giggling on the other line.
"Alright, alright, I'm on my way."
The call ended and Iruma let out the giant breath he didn't know he was holding in. He then realized that she'd be arriving any second now and started to panic. He ran outside and checked that everything was in place for the fifth time.
"I'm sure she'll love it Iruma-sama." Opera appeared out of nowhere and gave a reassuring pat on their young master's head.
Iruma looked up at Opera and gave them one of his trademark smiles. "Yeah... You're right!" A new found energy entered Iruma's body when the doorbell rung.
Iruma and Opera looked at each other and Opera nodded their head, a sort of silent understanding going in between the two. Iruma dashed towards the front door and opened it suddenly. Ameri looked a bit shocked but quickly regained her composure.
"I've brought some workbooks to study from..." she said quietly holding up a few workbooks she brought with her.
Iruma suddenly felt very guilty about lying to her. "You see.... About that......." Iruma looked at the ground twiddling his thumbs, "I kinda lied about that...."
Ameri looked very confused now. Iruma? Lying? She never thought it would happen. "Then why..."
"Just.... Just come with me." Iruma grabbed Ameri's wrist and started dragging her to the backyard of the mansion. Unbeknownst to him, Ameri was furiously blushing and trying to regain her composure the whole time.
"Ta-da!" Iruma lets go of Ameri's wrist and gestures towards the telescope and snacks he had set up (with help from Opera of course).
"Iruma... What is this?"
"Ah well..." he scratched the back of his neck, "We read about stargazing the other day in First Love Memories right? I thought it'd be nice if we recreated it and went stargazing!"
Ameri smiled softly at Iruma, "Thank you."
"It was nothing really!" Iruma replied immediately, quite flustered.
"Then shall we? The stars don't last forever."
"Let's." Iruma smiled, quite happy that tonight wasn't ruined.
The two spent the rest of the night making idle chat, eating snacks, and gazing at the stars. Iruma couldn't be happier at his new life in the Netherworld.
