“Dazai-san… what are you doing, exactly?”
Last night had been so cold, the kind of cold that seeped into his bones and left him shivering for hours. When Atsushi had opened his curtains this morning, the entire city had been coated in inches of pure white. His eyes widened in surprise before he ran off to get dressed, bundling up before carefully going down the stairs.
He was going to get Dazai, to see if he had seen the snow, but it seemed that the brunet had already been outside for a few minutes. Atsushi watched as Dazai waved his arms and legs about in the snow, creating some kind of shape that kind of looked like a bow tie.
“Good morning! Do you not know how to make a snow angel, Atsushi-kun?” Dazai sat up, blinking up at him as Atsushi walked over to stand in front of him. “It’s one of the things you have to do in the snow, like snowball fights or making snowmen!”
Atsushi tilted his head, looking confused. “Snow angels?”
Dazai shook his head and got up, shaking the snow off of himself. “I’ll show you! It’s really fun, you know~” Atsushi’s hand was taken and he was lead over to a clear patch of snow before the brunet turned back to him. “Okay, settle yourself into a good spot and then just plop yourself down into the snow, ‘kay?”
At Atsushi’s hesitant look, he continued. “I promise the snow’s powdery enough, it’s not going to hurt if you drop yourself into it.”
Atsushi nodded, relaxing as he did what he was told. He squeaked as he landed in the snow, and he could feel the cold all around him and soaking his hair and clothes. “What next, Dazai-san?”
Dazai went a short distance away before flopping into the snow the same way he had instructed Atsushi to, though he sat up and looked over at the teen instead of staying on his back.
“Now, you’re going to make this motion with both your arms and legs, just like you saw me doing.” The brunet made an up and down motion with his arms, and Atsushi nodded in understanding.
Atsushi worked on moving his arms and legs just like how Dazai showed him, and he couldn’t help but smile as he did so. It was actually a lot more fun than he thought it would be, and he was surprised because it was such a simple motion.
After what felt like a few minutes, he sat up to look over at Dazai. He was surprised to see the brunet staring at him with a fond expression on his face, and Atsushi felt his cheeks warm despite the cold. “U-Um, so what’s next?”
“Now you carefully climb out of the shape you made and go look at it!” Dazai grinned at him and started getting up, motioning Atsushi to do the same. The teen was very careful in getting out of the snow, dusting himself off before turning around.
Oh.
Atsushi now understood why they were called snow angels. Eyes sparkling, he turned to beam to Dazai, who was now walking over to him with his hands in his pockets. “Dazai-san, it’s so pretty!”
The teen went to move, planning on running the short distance to meet Dazai in the middle, but he had already forgotten about how hard it was to move in the snow, and he tripped. Tipping forward with a yelp, he ended up crashing into the snow.
Atsushi made a soft sound as he pushed himself up slightly, blinking in surprise to find Dazai under him. They stared at each other for a moment before they both started laughing. Atsushi found himself being pulled close as Dazai’s arms wrapped around his middle. Their noses brushed for a second as they shifted closer, and then they pressed their lips together.
There was a soft cough behind them, causing Atsushi to break the kiss with an embarrassed yelp, though it wasn’t like he could go anywhere with Dazai’s arms around him.
“Ah, it’s the good doctor! Are you here to make sure we don’t catch a cold?” Dazai joked, grinning as he let go of Atsushi, letting the teen get off of him.
“No, but that’s a good idea. I was here to get Atsushi and Kyouka, so we could all go play in the snow at the park together. However, I can see you two got started already.” Yosano had an amused expression on her face as she watched them get up and dust themselves off.
“I’d love to go to the park! Can we all make snow angels together?” Atsushi’s eyes were sparkling again and he looked excited. Yosano chuckled.
“Of course we can, Atsushi. Why don’t you go get Kyouka? We’ll follow. You and Dazai should warm up while you have the chance.”
Atsushi nodded, being much more careful as he headed back towards the apartment he shared with Kyouka. He couldn’t wait to make more snow angels with everyone, and maybe have a snowball fight, or make a snowman. He hadn’t done those before either.
Today was promising to be a very exciting day.
