Work Text:
As Nishikata and Takagi walked home from school like they did every day, Nishikata could be seen blushing intensley. Yet, Takagi had not (yet) done anything to invoke such a reaction since they left school. Nishikata was not hot, nor did he have a fever. Quite simply, he had a plan to finally win against Takagi-san, but it would cost him his dignity if it didn't work.
Hey Nishikata-kun?
Takagi suddenly broke the silence between them, a concerned look on her face.
Wh-what?
Nishikata replied, trying to avoid eye contact with her.
You've been red-faced since we left school. Are you sure you're feeling ok?
Uh, ye-yeah, I feel fine, Takagi-san
Nishikata stuttered out.
Takagi's expression shifted from concerned to sly. Then are you perhaps thinking of something lewd~ right now?
N-No, of course not! What are you saying? I'm not a pervert!
Nishikata yelled out, probably a bit louder than was necessary. Takagi jumped slightly at Nishikata's sudden outburst, though he would never know. Nishikata checked his surroundings. They would only have a few more minutes of walking together before they went their separate ways to their houses. Nishikata wanted desperately to chicken out, to abandon his plan, but if he didn't do it now, then he would never do it. He took a deep breath, and put his plan into action.
Say, Takagi-san? How about we have another contest? Loser has to do anything the winner says.
Nishikata's plan was foolproof. Even if he lost the contest, he'd more than likely still be able to turn the situation around. And if he won, somehow, then he could win directly.
Takagi showed a mischievous grin. Hmm? Let me think about it.
Takagi momentarily pretended to be deep in thought. Sure! What's the contest?
Nishikata pulled out one of his notebooks and tore out a couple of unused pages. How about a paper airplane contest. Whoever makes the plane that flies the farthest wins
Nishikata grinned to himself. Over the past couple of days, he had been looking up and memorizing how to fold the best flying paper airplane. There's no way Takagi could beat a design found on the internet!
Nishikata Lost
A random gust of wind sent Nishikatas plane straight to the ground no more than a handful of feet in front of them. Meanwhile Takagi achieved some fair distance with her basic plane design. Overall, it didn't matter. This "contest" was only to get Takagi to initiate tell Nishikata he had to do something embarrassing, specifically something romance-related in nature.
Yay! I won!
Takagi looked to be pleased with herself. As the winner of this contest, I want you to buy me a juice.
Nishikata felt his stomach drop. She was supposed to ask for something that would embarrass him. This plan wouldn't work if she used her prize on a simple juice. she HAD to choose something else. He had gotten this far, he wasn't going to lose now.
Ta-Takagi-san, you heard what the prize was, right? You can ask me to do anything! You shouldn't waste this chance on a simple juice.
Nishikata pleaded.
Takagi leaned in towards Nishikata, while he leaned back, and looked away. What's this? You're asking me to give you a worse punishment for losing our contest?
Takagi questioned.
Nishikata bit his lip. Yes...
Takagi went back to standing straight, as did Nishikata. Okay then. Tell me why you wanted me to give you a worse punishment than buying me a juice.
Nishikata was cornered. Despite creating a foolproof way to win, his plan was falling apart. Without his plan, his win was still possible, but it would be more awkward for him. He could still lie, but Takagi would probably be able to tell that he was lying. Nishikata decided he would have to tell the truth.
Because it was part of my plan to win against you and make you flustered.
Nishikata mumbled out.
Takagi made her signature "Hmm?" sound, and cocked her head to the side. And how did you plan to do that,
she asked with a smirk on her face.
By-By...
Nishikata sputtered out. He felt like he was going to throw up, or pass out, or maybe even both. Nobody told him confessions were this hard, and Nishikata wondered how Mano being as shy as she is, managed to confess to Nakai. But that was another matter for another time.
By asking if you would go out with me!
Nishikata yelled out, and instinctively bowing. As if on cue, all sounds seemed to fade into nothingness, except for the sound of his own heartbeat. After what felt like an eternity, Nishikata heard Takagi close the handful of steps between them, and looked up to see her as red as he probably was, with a massive smile on her face, the likes of which Nishikata had never seen before. Just seeing that smile alone would have made the whole ordeal worth it.
I was wondering if you'd ever ask.
Takagi said calmly, though Nishikata could see that she was struggling to uphold her perpetually calm and collected front. With that, Nishikata technically won against Takagi, though that was the absolute last thing on his mind at the moment.
D-d-does that mean y-yes?
Nishikata questioned shakily.
Takagi stepped even closer to him, and their faces were no more than half a foot from each other.
Crap, she smells really good
Nishikata thought to himself. Takagi suddenly looked aside, and he did the same, wondering what could have caught Takagi's attention.
*Smooch~*
Nishikata snapped his head back to Takagi, and put his hand to his cheek, mouth wide open at what just happened.
Does that answer your question, Nishikata-kun?
