Work Text:
Fyodor raised his hand over the boys head. Getting rid of the last witness would be aneasy peasy task compared to others on his list.
Topaz frozen in horror, could do nothing as he realized inevitable doom awaited him. This couldn't be how it ended, right? This couldn't be the end of his life? Not like this. No, he just couldn't-
"Can you... not?" he blurted out, not recognizing his own voice at first. When had he become so... sassy?
Fyodor froze for a moment, taken back by the others words. Then he opened his mouth to speak again, that sly terrifying smile plastered on once more. But before he could say another word, Topaz cut him off.
"I mean yeah you got your big 'end the world around you' vandetta, but how can somebody like me come against that," he carefully slid away from Fyodor's direction, "Like, I don't even care about the Port Mafia. Man, I've been bought by human traffickers my whole life, can't you just give me a break?"
Fyodor looked at him, seemingly not sure if he should be amused or irritated.
"Finally, Ace has kicked the bucket and I thought 'Hey finally I'm free'. I was relieved! Albeit a bit terrified, cuz you like killed him and all. And now you are gonna kill me too?? Isn't that just a bit of a waste of time?" he had no idea where all this was coming from. He new he was bullshitting his way through it, but hell if he wasn't enjoying himself.
"Didn't believe you had the balls to actually say that. I guess I must have underestimated you kid," he bent his neck sideways in a way that was distinctly similar to the dead body in the room, "Too bad I still have to kill you."
Topaz continued on, even though he new this was a losing battle. "Oh come on, don't you need an apprentice? A sidekick? Somebody that can be by your side? 'Cause I'll be that if need be. I would be honoured to serve somebody like you."
"Oh, really?"
"I have heard your intentions and would more likely be with you than against you," his heart was pounding so hard, he didn't know if this would be the right decision. Only time would tell. But what he did know, right now was that it felt right, "I'm done being scared. I'm done being other peoples playtoy. I will serve you, but I'm not going to be a dog under your command. If you wish to kill me, you can try, but I'm going to fight for once."
Topaz got into position. He had never won a fight in his life, but with this new-found resolution... he wasn't going to back down now.
Fyodor chuckled softly. It got caught in his throat and he broke out into a full-on maniacal laughter, head down, hands on the knees kind of laughter. This. This was precious.
But he raised his head again, his laighter died in his throat. He saw something in the boy's eyes. Something he wasn't expecting. Something different. Then and there he decided, he was gonna keep him.
"Why not, eh?" he replied smirking slightly.
"Oh... uhhn, ok but first of all we gotta go get taiyaki. Always wandered how those would taste like."
"Heh..."
