Work Text:
A week before Christmas, there was a major blizzard. That was equally good and bad news for Hitoshi. Good because he could spend time with Tenya for a while, something that had become much more difficult once they went pro. Bad because he had a major interview that day and it had to be rescheduled. He'd already psyched himself up for it the night before only for his work to go to waste and his nerves to return with a force.
He grumbled as he turned away from the window to see Tenya still bundled up in the blankets, in a deep sleep.
It was 4 am still. If Tenya were awake right now, Hitoshi would be dragged back under the covers and squeezed half to death in Tenya's attempt to comfort him into a pleasant sleep.
There was nothing he could really do now anyway, so he did pull the covers up around him, sinking into the warmth but still not tired in the slightest.
He wound his arms around Tenya's sleeping figure, burying his face into his neck. If he couldn't sleep he could at the very least get comfortable.
---
At some point, Hitoshi did doze off for a bit. When he woke up and made sense of the time, a warm scent wafted from the kitchen.
He peeled the blankets off reluctantly and shuffled into the kitchen, rubbing his neck to work a crick out of it.
“You're awake! Did you sleep well?” Tenya greeted cheerfully, not even turning from his work on the counter.
“Better than usual, I guess. What're you making?”
Tenya turned his head too look at Hitoshi. He beamed, much brighter than anyone should in the morning, and replied, “Coffee cake! I also got your coffee ready to go with it.”
His attention shifted to the half-full coffee pot and large black mug with a cat face printed on it in white. It had been Tenya's first gift to him and he used it religiously. Cream and sugar were set beside the mug. “Thanks.” He set on making his coffee how he always did and asked, “So how long have you been up? It's not that late yet.”
“I got up a little before 6. You were asleep and I didn't want to wake you up.”
Hitoshi nodded in unison with stirring. “I appreciate it. I woke up at 4 but I think by 5 I fell asleep again.”
“I'm glad. Your body shouldn't handle the level of exhaustion it does with being a hero on top of it. We really do need to get that checked out but I still won't force you. Especially not today.”
Hitoshi nodded, joining Tenya in front of the oven. He leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “Thank you. For being so patient with me.”
Tenya's eyes softened. “Of course.”
Hitoshi's heart swelled with warmth. To know that he's always going to be cared for is something he hadn't known prior to meeting Tenya. When he was young he was feared for his quirk and he'd felt entirely abandoned for years. Now, he was loved by not only friends but a boyfriend he could say he was in a stable and committed relationship with.
He couldn't think of many things that would make him happier than he was now.
“So, what are we doing today?” Hitoshi asked between sips of his coffee. He was shuffling through the mail from yesterday, which had only been thrown on the counter when they got home. Nothing of interest.
“Whatever you want. We can't go out, but you like staying inside anyway, right?”
Hitoshi nodded, smirking a bit. Tenya was always one to be dragging him to new shops in town or taking him to family-owned businesses where he knew the owners personally due to his wealthy background. It was amusing to watch how excited he'd get, though Hitoshi couldn't understand what there was to be excited about.
He was very much one to sit inside with tea and a book or buried under a blanket to watch a movie. Tenya knew that, and they normally would try to squeeze both of their preferred activities in when they had a day off.
Today, it was all Hitoshi's choice.
“There's a show I wanted to watch together. And we have some movies set aside to watch too,” he finally answered, taking his attention away from the junk mail in his hand.
Tenya smiled and nodded, “Okay, that works for me.”
---
If Hitoshi was being honest with himself, he hardly paid attention to what they were watching. He realized how long it really had been since they had a full day off. The preparation for the holidays were brutal, villains were especially pesky when there was snow on the ground and civilians were caught up in the bustling of shopping.
There were a lot of press conferences and interviews. It was both of their debuts this year, along with most of their classmates from UA, so they attracted a lot of, in Hitoshi's case, unwanted attention. It was draining.
Having Tenya here, for the whole day with his undivided attention on him was something he hadn't realized he needed so desperately. Especially knowing that he still had that interview to do next week.
The words coming from the TV, a frantic man yelling about an oncoming attack, paranoid of what was happening, was static in the back of Hitoshi's mind. The movie they were watching was intense but he found it was difficult to pay any attention to it when his mind was wandering elsewhere. He’d managed to focus on the four episodes of that show he’d been dying to watch, but Tenya had picked this one to watch next. It couldn’t hold his attention nearly as well.
He pulled the blanket up to his chin and tucked his feet under himself to conserve the warmth.
“Are you cold?” Tenya asked, turning his head away from the TV with a concerned look.
Hitoshi shrugged. “A little bit.”
He was pulled closer to Tenya, his head lying on his shoulder. The warmth provided from another person was far better than that provided by blanket, Hitoshi decided.
“Better?”
“I'm definitely not complaining.”
Tenya's hand rested loosely around his waist as he leaned into the side of Tenya's body. He could see the TV better now, but that still didn't mean he knew what was going on.
“This is a bit stupid, but what's even happening?” He lifted his chin from Tenya's shoulder to look at him.
“That’s not stupid. I’ll explain it!” Tenya began, excitedly talking about the plot of the movie so far, pausing it a few minutes into his explanation.
From what Hitoshi gathered, it was a typical monster action movie, but Tenya seemed really passionate about it so he listened intently to every detail.
“It's really an excellent narrative! I read something about it a few weeks ago and I've been wanting to see it for myself for a while.” The end of his description also ended the frantic gesturing, which warranted a chuckle from Hitoshi. “What is it?”
“You're just cute.” Hitoshi sat up a bit to cradle Tenya's chin and plant a kiss on his nose.
Tenya pouted and his eyebrows crinkled. “How was that cute. You're much cuter than me.”
“Not true. The way you talk about things that get you excited is always adorable. What have I done?”
“Everything. I love everything about you. Which means everything you do is cute.”
Hitoshi's face warmed, despite his internal protests of it. “That's not fair,” he huffed.
Tenya laughed. “You're just proving my point.”
“Whatever, you win.” Hitoshi buried himself in Tenya's shoulder again, curling himself into a ball further and reveling in the warmth surrounding him.
He still didn't watch much of the movie. Despite Tenya's clear interest in it, nothing about it grabbed his attention. Instead, he thought of how he could get his boyfriend back.
When the credit music started playing, Hitoshi lifted his head and saw that there were tears in Tenya's eyes.
Hitoshi huffed in admiration. “You big baby. I love you.”
The quivering in Tenya's lip stopped. He stared at Hitoshi in surprise.
It wasn't that they didn't say it to each other. Hitoshi rarely said it out of the blue like that though. And over something silly like this.
“Hitoshi…” he started crying harder. “I love you too.”
“I know, I feel like I don't say it enough though.” He sat up, shifting his body toward Tenya. He put fingers against Tenya's chin, gently tugging it toward him until his lips met his own.
There was a moment of hesitation from Tenya. It was sudden, Hitoshi didn't blame him, but once that moment was over Tenya melted into the kiss. His hand found Hitoshi's cheek, then shifted it to run through the length of his mess of hair. The other hand was tight around his waist.
Hitoshi never knew what to do once he got this far. It felt awkward to leave his fingers gripping Tenya's chin like that, his other arm draped across Tenya's broad shoulder limply. Maybe it didn't matter if Hitoshi did anything, but he was still in a stupid competition in his head so he tried moving the hand under his chin to the back of his head, fingers running over the surprisingly soft shaved portion, quickly moving to the top of his head.
Tenya jumped, and Hitoshi felt accomplished.
They broke apart for a breath but it didn't seem like enough, Hitoshi closed the gap again, leaning in further until Tenya fell over on the couch.
He broke away. “Oh my god, I'm sorry,” Hitoshi muttered.
“No! No, it's fine. You're fine.” Tenya was flushed, with Hitoshi nearly sitting on top of him.
“I got carried away, I wanted to surprise you.”
“Hitoshi, it's fine. I'm really happy.”
Hitoshi shuddered, “Okay. That's good.”
Tenya shifted under him. “It would be nice if you got off me though.”
“I don't know…” The smirk returned. “Don't worry.” He moved his legs so he was sitting next to where Tenya was laying, and lowered himself to lie on the couch too. He kissed Tenya's forehead and pulled the blanket around them. “It would be nice to try to nap. Only if you're here though. If that's okay.”
“That's more than okay, you need rest. If you don't want to watch anything else we can do this instead.”
Hitoshi's face warmed again, “Thank you. What did I do to deserve you?” He wrapped himself around Tenya, who shut the TV off and eventually dozed off.
