Luck of the Rabbit

Chapter Text

October 5th

Jungkook

Jungkook is physically incapable of stopping the smile on his face. As soon as he walks into his apartment, he lets out a happy sigh. He spots Taehyung on the bed and excitedly shrugs his shoes off. "Tae." He basically squeaks.

Maybe he might have played it cool, walked in all normal and waited for Taehyung to ask him about things. But this is his best friend and there's no point in hiding how excited he is.

Jungkook steps out of his shoes and then rushes over to Taehyung and plops down beside him, grinning from ear to ear. "It went well." He confirms, setting his take-out bag beside him.

He turns to Taehyung with big, starry eyes. "I really like him." It's easy to admit.

Taehyung

A few notable scents grace Taehyung’s nose when the door to the apartment is opened.  There’s Jungkook’s familiar smell (a nice mixture of soap, clean laundry, and the cedar-y smell of the cologne that Taehyung spritzed him with earlier), there’s a smell that, while it’s new, Taehyung can clearly identify as that of another person’s, and then there’s...something else.  All of these have Taehyung’s gaze shooting up from his phone.

One of the first things his best friend does is excitedly say his name and this gets Taehyung smiling too, bushy, fluffy tail wagging behind him, noisily on the bedspread.  Taehyung barely has a chance to say anything before Jungkook is bounding over and landing next to him.  He laughs.

It’s Taehyung’s chance to catch Jungkook’s excitement.  Suddenly, he has many questions.  “Where did you go? What’s he like? What happened?” and finally, “What’s that smell? It’s like-” He takes a good whiff of the air.  “Sweet.  But also-...” Sniff.  “Cheese?”

Jungkook

Taehyung’s tail is wagging excitedly as he asks Jungkook a bunch of questions. Jungkook smiles, giggling when Taehyung sniffs out the cheesecake. He decides to address that first.

"Hoseokie Hyung got me cheesecake." He explains, lifting the bag up for a moment. "He offered dessert so I told him to choose something for me."

Honestly, Jungkook's been smelling it the whole ride home and he can't wait to try it.

"He took me to a Western restaurant." Jungkook continues. "He's so -" Jungkook can't find the right words. "He was a total gentleman, but I also felt really comfortable with him. He asked a lot about me and wasn't judgemental at all - he was just so sweet, and cute..." Jungkook laments. "...And hot." his cheeks flare up at the confession and he quickly moves on.

"I tried wine for the first time! It was actually really good." He scrunches his nose in thought: "I don't remember what kind it was, but it was lighter, and cold."

Speaking of other firsts, Jungkook adds - "he got me steak," he says. "And this lobster 'risotto' thing? It was all really good."

Taehyung

Cheese...cake? Wide eyes focus on the bag that's beside Jungkook.  Whatever it is, it sure smells like it might be good.

Taehyung’s tail had stopped wagging in his moment of concentration, but he keys back into Jungkook’s words by the end of his first sentence.  The smile on his face returns and his tail sets to moving again. He grins when Jungkook mentions that Hoseok was hot, aside from sweet and cute.  He's about to ask about that when Jungkook moves on, talking about how he tried wine and was given steak and something called lobster ‘ri-zoe-toe’?

Taehyung has to swallow and lick at his lips.  “I don't even know what risotto is but that sounds really good.”  He'd just had some ramyeon for dinner.  It's usually enough for Taehyung but he swears, now, his stomach is a second from growling.  “Wow, he got you some really fancy stuff, huh? Was he everything you imagined he was gonna be like? Are you gonna see him again?”

Jungkook

"I didn't know either." Jungkook giggles. "It was really good though." He confirms.

Taehyung comments that the stuff he'd gotten was fancy and Jungkook nods. "You should have seen his car." He adds, absentmindedly. Very fancy car.

Taehyung asks if he was everything he'd imagined - if he's gonna see him again.

"I didn't know what to expect, really, but he definitely surpassed anything I could have imagined." Jungkook adds, honestly.

Jungkook stands up then, wanting to take off the suit. "He wants to see me again." Jungkook smiles. "I told him I'd text him." He feels all floaty and happy.

He quickly changes out of his suit and throws on some pj's and then settles back down beside Taehyung, who seems to be trying to get a better sniff of the cheesecake. He sits between him and the bag, to grab his attention.

"Oh yeah, you won't believe what he was wearing." Jungkook gets this smirk on his face. "Remember how you urged me to either add a tie or change the colour of my shirt?" He asks.

Taehyung

Taehyung has the urge to ask Jungkook about Hoseok’s car but, well, Taehyung doesn't really know the first thing about cars.  He's not really enthusiastic about them as most guys stereotypically are.  He doesn't know what classifies as a good or bad car, exactly.  But he'll definitely take Jungkook’s word for it!

He smiles at his friend’s joy.  Jungkook is just so clearly happy.  Taehyung is happy too, and thankful to Hoseok, that he's provided his best friend with such a good experience.  Jungkook’s voice hovers a little higher than normal, even, as if everything down to his tone is left floaty and bubbly.  It's cute.

When Jungkook makes to get changed, Taehyung gets distracted by the delicious smell coming from the bag that's been left on his bed.  He sniffs the air continuously, getting closer and closer without realizing, until he's practically pressed onto the bed, his nose nearly touching the bag itself.  His head moves about, still sniff, sniff, sniffing away, when, suddenly, Jungkook sits down between him and the cheesecake.  Taehyung shoots up, surprised, sitting cross-legged.  There's the slightest whimper as he frowns - it may be nearly inaudible - and he's slumped for a second before he straightens more, to pay attention to what Jungkook is saying again.  His tail swishes again, but now, maybe, with a little less gusto.

In response to Jungkook’s question, he says, “Oh, yeah?” But then he takes in Jungkook’s smirk.  “Wah. Really?”

Jungkook

“Yup,” Jungkook confirms, his gaze going up as he pictures Hoseok in his mind. “It really worked for him, too.” He sighs. To be honest, he has a feeling that anything would work if it was worn by Jung Hoseok.

His attention falls back on his friend, then, who had been clearly checking out his dessert. He smirks. “Should we try the cake?” He asks, wiggling his eyebrows.

Jungkook bolts from the bed and bounces around the kitchen, pulling out two forks, some napkins, a butter knife, and two plates. He’s back quickly - he’s been waiting to try this cake for the better part of an hour, now, and he doesn’t want to wait any longer.

He passes Taehyung a fork, plate and a few napkins. They often eat on the bed - which is a bad habit - but at least they try to be clean about it.

Jungkook pulls the little takeout container out of the box, and is happy to see that it’s a good, shareable amount. Of course there won’t be any leftovers , but that’s fine. His eyes go wide as he looks at it - it’s so elegant ? It’s a nice cream colour, with what looks to be chocolate and caramel drizzled on top.

Jungkook is quick to distribute half of it on to Taehyung’s plate, and half on to his own. He’s even quicker to locate his fork and take a bite.

“Oh my god,” Jungkook mutters, already filling his fork with another bite. He makes a happy whine. “It’s so good , what the fuck??” He asks, looking over to gauge Taehyung’s expression, to see if he likes it, too.

Taehyung

When Jungkook looks away, imagining, Taehyung follows his gaze, as if trying to see what he's looking at now.  Seeing nothing, his eyes go back to Jungkook, who still seems to be daydreaming.  (Taehyung’s head tilts slightly to the side.)

Eventually, however, Jungkook comes back to reality and mentions trying the cake that has so been occupying Taehyung’s attention.  His tail whips back and forth at full speed again and he smiles bright, happy that his friend is willing to share with him.

“Oooooooh.”  Taehyung is awed by how decorative the cake looks.  It seems a shame, even, to slice it in half, let alone destroy it by eating it, but its delicious smell wins out in this.  Taehyung has to lick his lips again to avoid drooling.

Jungkook is stunned right away by the taste of the cheesecake, and so is Taehyung, though the two boys have differing methods of going about enjoying the dessert.  Taehyung is savoring his very first bite.  His eyes had widened at first but since closed, and now he is quietly chewing in bliss.  Once he finally swallows, he looks to Jungkook.  “Yah.  I've never had anything like this before.”

He scoops up some more with the intent to sniff at the cake but merely ends up taking half a sniff as he puts his scoop into his mouth.  “How can cheese do this??”

Jungkook

"I have no idea." Jungkook shakes his head, taking another bite.

After they finish their cake (Jungkook's is gone much sooner than Taehyung's is), the younger brings all of the stuff to the kitchen and dumps it on the counter, where he intends to deal with it later. He comes back to the bed and flops down, smiling.

"He was so nice, Tae." Jungkook is staring up at the ceiling as he talks. "He also is into music, too. He said he makes music sometimes with his producer friends?"

Jungkook shakes his head, as if in disbelief. (And really, he is. How does someone so absolutely perfect exist?) "I can't wait to see him again." He says it in a whine, shaking his legs up and down and then sighing.

Taehyung

Taehyung smiles brightly when his best friend practically launches himself back on the bed.  He's happy Jungkook is so happy, and, on top of that, he's just happy that Jungkook wants to spend more time with him.  He giggles at his antics and lays himself down too, putting an arm around Jungkook and shoving his head into his hair.  “I'm glad you had such a good time!”

He's also glad that Hoseok seems to be a good guy.  Jungkook deserves it.

Jungkook’s giddiness is contagious, and Taehyung’s tail slaps loudly on the bedspread as it wags.

There's another whimper from Taehyung, but it's not really a sad sound, just one that sounds like he's at a loss for any other way to show the affection and happiness he's feeling.  He presses his face further into Jungkook for a second.  “Thank you for sharing your cake too.  Is that rich people food? Rich people food is nice.”

Jungkook

Jungkook can only nod when Taehyung says he's glad he had such a good time. The boy is being cuddly with him, which prompts a Jungkook to pull the boy closer to him, wrapping an arm around him.

Taehyung thanks him for sharing the cake. "I was happy to," he murmurs, still in a daze. The corner of his mouth quirks up in a smile. "I wasn't just gonna eat in front of you and make you watch."

Jungkook laughs at the comment about "rich people food".

"I think that is rich people food. It must be." Jungkook agrees. "Everything at that restaurant was rich people food, I think."

Jungkook is just so glad that Hoseok doesn't mind that he doesn't have as much as him. There was a small worry, before he'd more or less given it away, that Hoseok might be upset. Might have felt misled or disappointed. It doesn't seem to be the case, though.

"He's so nice." Jungkook says dreamily again.
