Chapter Text
Izuku stared at the door handle with a growing sense of trepidation. He’d been standing on the front steps of the 1-A dorms for the past 5 minutes, one hand hovering over the handle of the door while the other clenched nervously around the strap of his backpack. Logically he knew he should be eager to see all his friends again after his weekend-long stint in the hospital, but emotionally something was stopping him. What if his friends didn’t like him as an Omega?
“Alright, my boy, enough of whatever is going through that overactive imagination of yours,” Yagi’s voice huffed fondly behind Izuku, as the man’s bony hand ruffled emerald curls, “I can already tell your thoughts have spiraled into some sort of nonsense.”
“I’m sorry, All Might,” Izuku sighed, spinning on his heels and burying his face in his mentor’s chest. “I’m just worried about what they might think of me now!”
The Alpha chuckled and wrapped his deceptively strong arms around his pup’s back. The two of them had quickly fallen into a cycle of ever increasing displays of affection at the hospital and the medical staff had been very encouraging of it. Apparently it was good for both of them to have such physical reassurances while their bond as Alpha parent and Omega pup settled in. Izuku had felt a little bad for squeezing his mentor all the time at first but Toshinori made it clear that he was far from bothered by the whole situation. If anything the Alpha was the needier of the two, always wanting to have an arm around Izuku’s shoulders or a hand on his head. The tall Hero practically pouted whenever they had to be separated for treatment.
The weekend he’d spent at the hospital felt like some kind of fantastic fever dream to Izuku! It was a whirlwind of life changing realizations that had ended with the teen in a position that he’d never thought he’d be in, even in his wildest fantasies; as the adopted Omega son of his childhood Hero! But the dream had come to an end and now, standing on the steps of the 1-A dorms, Izuku had to face the reality of what those changes really meant.
And that reality terrified him.
Luckily for him, his Alpha had his back.
“My dear boy,” All Might said, placing his hands on Izuku’s shoulders and pushing the teen back until he could lock gazes with teary green eyes, “You have nothing to fear! Do you know why?”
“Because you are here?” Izuku sniffled with a watery smile.
“Nope!” Yagi crowed, making the Omega jump in surprise. The Alpha chuckled and gave his pup a reassuring pat on the shoulder, “It’s because you are here. You’re friends love you, my boy. They’ve been giving poor Aizawa the run around trying to get information about your condition and they cannot wait to have you back within their ranks. They won’t think any less of you for embracing your Dynamic, Izuku, if anything they’ll only find more things about you to adore.”
“If you’re sure,” Izuku mumbled uncertainty, his shoulders hunching in on himself.
“Come now, Pup,” Yagi crooned, taking a knee so he could be face to face with Izuku’s drooping gaze, “They’re your friends! And future Heroes to boot! Surely if you can trust anyone to accept you, it’s them, right?”
“Right,” Izuku nodded, squaring his shoulders and lifting his chin up in determination. He turned back around and marched his way up to the door once again. “I have nothing to worry about. I can trust my friends!”
His throat bobbed as he swallowed nervously. He grasped the doorknob in a sweaty palm and squeezed his eyes shut. In a burst of adrenaline fueled bravery he threw open the door and hurried into the building, waiting in terror for the cries of disgust his cruel mind had convinced him were sure to follow.
There was a loud gasp and then silence following Izuku’s dramatic entrance into the dorms. For a horrifying moment Izuku was convinced All Might had been wrong, that his traitorous thoughts had been correct and his friends were now disgusted by him. But then a loud cry cut through the room.
“DEKU’S BACK!” Uraraka hollered so jubilantly that it shocked Izuku’s eyes open. It was a good thing too because his best friend had jumped off the back of the couch and was rushing towards him with half the class hot on her heels.
Izuku squealed in surprise at the mob that was suddenly closing in on him, the cacophony of voices all shouting out questions making him start to panic. The young Omega ducked his head and hunched in his shoulders in anticipation of some sort of impact. Just as the noise became too much a deep growl, loud enough to shake the very walls of the building, echoed through the room. All of the students froze like statues, heads tilting in submission at the unyielding display of Alpha command. Izuku was the sole exception to the thundering growl, the sound of his Alpha filling him with hazy comfort instead of forcing him to obey. The green haired Omega almost started purring as the familiar warmth of All Might’s arm wrapped around his shoulders and pulled him in close to his mentor’s now-healed side.
“Now I know you all know better than this,” Yagi rumbled scoldingly at the collection of stiff-stood teens, “Young Izuku is still recovering from his ordeal and as such his instincts are running high. Rushing him like that would have only served to send him into an anxiety attack as I am sure Aizawa warned you earlier today.”
“Yes Sir,” The class chorused, all of them looking properly chastised at the former Number One’s words.
“Sorry All Might-sensei,” Uraraka mumbled, pressing her fingers together dejectedly, “We were just so excited to see Deku again that we forgot ourselves.”
“An understandable sentiment, Young Uraraka,” Yagi chuckled fondly, giving Izuku’s shoulder a loving squeezing and making the boy squeak and bashfully bury his face in the Alpha’s shirt, “However, as future Heroes, you should try to remain aware of the mental state of those around you and anticipate how your actions will affect them. It is always better to think before you act if you suspect someone’s instincts may be especially intense for some reason. Such conduct will only help you in the field as Pros.”
“Thank you for such inspiring advice, All Might-sensei,” Iida called enthusiastically, hands chopping in time with his words, “I believe I speak for all of us when I say that it will be taken to heart, not only in our professional lives, but in regard to our dear friend Midoriya as well.”
“I’m glad to hear it,” Yagi grinned, taking a little too much pleasure in the way the tips of his pup’s ears turned bright red at his taller friend’s words, “Now then, everyone will get a chance to greet Young Izuku here but we’re going to take it slowly alright? You have to be gentle with him as he’s still getting used to his Omega instincts. We’ll start by having Young Uraraka come forward first.”
“Yes!” Ochako cheered, throwing her hands in the air as some of the other students grumbled about fairness.
“Now now, it’s the most logical choice, as your homeroom teacher would say,” Yagi said, waving a hand placatingly at the pouting teens, “Young Uraraka is not only one of Izuku's closest friends but another Omega as well. Hopefully that familiarity will be enough for this pup’s instincts to feel safe and welcome. Once Izuku is a bit more acclimated then the rest of you can greet him a few at a time. Does that sound good to everyone?”
“It sounds like a great idea, All Might-sensei,” Momo chimed in, “Iida and I will get everyone into groups while you and Ochako get Midoriya situated. Just leave everything to us.”
Izuku felt his cheeks heat up all the brighter at his classmates' eager words. Were they really that excited to see him? He’d only been gone a few days after all and it wasn’t even over anything major. He’d been scared that they’d be mad at him for hiding his Dynamic from them for so long. He hadn’t expected them to be so happy to have him back!
“Deku-kun~” Ochako’s voice sang joyfully in his ear, “Stop hiding in All Might’s shirt silly! Let me see those pretty eyes of yours!”
“W-what?!” Izuku squealed, jerking his head up in surprise at the other Omega’s words only to sway a bit as a wave of the girl’s scent washed over him for the first time. Ochako’s scent was soothing and pretty, like springtime and homemade sweets, and it filled Izuku with a sense of familiar belonging. He might not have been able to smell scents before, but somehow his Omega recognized Ochako’s scent as Pack. Izuku shook his head, forcibly knocking himself back into the moment at hand and blushing at his friend’s knowing smile. “M-my eyes aren’t p-pretty!!”
“Mmhmm keep telling yourself that,” Ochako smirked teasingly, “You’re going to be beating the Alpha’s off with a stick in no time.”
“Ochako!” Izuku groaned, rubbing a hand over his face.
“Don’t you Ochako me mister,” The brunette huffed in mock affront, “I’ve missed out on half a year of Omega on Omega friendship teasing because of you and I intend to make up for lost time and then some.”
“...ah...um, well,” Izuku floundered, “I guess...that makes sense? What I mean is, um, sorry for not telling you--”
“Do not even start that, Deku,” Uraraka said firmly, placing a pink tipped finger over his lips, “I know how your brain works and I know that you would only keep something like this a secret for a good reason. I don’t need to know the reason, it’s none of my business, but know that I’m here if you want to talk about it, okay?”
“Okay,” Izuku sniffled, nodding his head as big relieved tears spilled out of his eyes.
“Good now come here and give me a hug,” His best friend smiled, pulling the happily sobbing boy into a tight squeeze, “I missed you so much you know. I mean we all missed you but me especially! ”
“I’m sure!” Izuku chuckled wetly, wrapping his arms around Ochako’s back and deeply breathing in her sweetly soothing scent.
“Oh wow Deku,” Ochako hummed, swaying slightly in their embrace, “Your scent...it’s so…”
“Oh gosh I’m sorry!” The boy gasped, arms dropping from their hold in surprise as he remembered that he
actually had
a scent now, “I’m still getting used to controlling it! I should have been more careful! I know it’s probably not the most pleasant--”
“Amazing~” Ochako sighed dreamily, stopping Izuku in his tracks, “Deku your scent is amazing! I’ve never smelled anything like it!”
“R-really?” Izuku asked in a small fragile voice, daring to hope that Ochako’s words were true, “Do you r-really like it? I don’t smell g-gross? Or...wrong?”
“Deku.” Ochako said seriously, pulling back from her hug just enough to stare Izuku down with fiery determination, “I love it. You smell wonderful! Completely mesmerizing! It’s like springtime and sunshine at a beachside meadow! Any Omega would kill to have a scent like this, Deku. It’s amazing, just like the rest of you.”
Izuku stared at the brunette Omega in wonder for a silent moment before happy tears sprung to his eyes. Warmth bubbled up within him at the wonderful feeling of acceptance and love he’d received from his best friend and with it came a wave of happiness he could barely contain. His scent washed over the room, uninhibited by Izuku’s inexperienced control, spreading through the air until the whole class could smell it.
The effect was instantaneous. The Omegas, like Ochako, swayed dizzily at the new enchanting scent. They swooned at the sweetness of it and cooed welcomingly at the sniffling green haired pup. The Betas staggered drunkenly, some flopping to the ground with delirious giggles as they opened their mouths to better taste the sunny flavor in the air. The Alphas rumbled in pleasure as the pheromones hit their pallets, chests thrusting out as they began to posture against each other in front of the newly presented Omega. A few of them even started sending out their own scents in response, hoping to entice their sweet smelling classmate further into the room and deeper into the safety of their pack’s den.
“See, what did I tell you?” Ochako chuckled gleefully, gesturing to where Kirishima and Mina were subtly hip-checking each other out of the way as they crooned and beckoned to Izuku with giddy grins on their faces, both of them completely blind to the fact that Todoroki was slowly inching his way around the side of their tussle while blushing and holding his hands out towards the Omega they fought over, “Do you want me to get that stick for you now or later?”
“Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry everyone!” Izuku squealed, cheeks flaming with embarrassment as he focused on reigning in his scent. “I’m working on controlling it but I just can’t help it sometimes! I swear I’ll try twice as hard to keep my scent to a minimum in the dorms from now on!”
“No way Midoriya!” Hagakure called out from where she was flopped over the side of one the common area armchairs, “You’re a part of our pack and we all loved your scent just now! Don’t keep it all bottled up!”
“She’s right Midoriya,” Asui said, stepping forward slowly so as not to startle the nervous Omega or his protective Guardian Alpha, “No one here wants you to stifle your instincts anymore. We all love you for you, Dynamic included.”
“Is that enough reassurance for you, my boy?” Yagi asked softly, threading gentle fingers through his pup’s hair, “Your pack all loved your delightful scent and they’re eagerly waiting for the chance to greet you. Are you ready to let them in?”
“Yes!” Izuku nodded, smiling so wide it strained his cheeks. He threw his arms open once more and Tsuyu was quick to join Ochako in embracing their returned packmate.
The rest of the class rushed to follow after in a waterfall of affection, they engulfed Izuku in hugs and soft touches as they led their lost packmate further into the room. All Might trailed after the jumble of teens sedately, content to watch his little successor be coddled and fussed over by his friends.
Momo and Ochako quickly took charge of the situation. It was only natural, as the two highest ranked Omegas in the class, that they would welcome their new member into the fold after all. Momo gracefully threaded Izuku’s arm through her elbow and escorted the blushing boy over to the couch in the middle of the common room, strategically chosen for its ease of access for the rest of the pack. While Momo got Izuku settled, Ochako gathered pillows from the floor and blankets from the backs of chairs, playfully snapping at any Beta or Alpha who tried to sneakily get in a last scenting on her chosen objects. Once she had gotten a good armful of soft materials, she made her way over to the green haired Omega and carefully arranged her haul around Izuku in a comfortable temporary nest. Izuku shyly pawed at the blankets, pulling a few closer to him before tucking himself down into the warmth of the fabric and letting out a joyful trill.
That little chirp was all the rest of 1-A needed to hear to start crowding closer to Izuku, each one zealously trying to get to the front of the line to get reacquainted with their classmate. Iida was first to get there of course, his chopping hands and commanding words getting the rest of the class to give Izuku adequate space. Once the group had managed to organize themselves into a vague idea of a line, the class rep turned and politely held out a hand for Izuku to scent. The Omega grinned up at his friend and pulled the tall Alpha into a hug, happily crooning that he was glad to see him. Iida’s face burned red as a firetruck but he stutteringly thanked the smaller boy before standing up to help Momo direct the line.
The rest of the reintroductions went along in a similar vein. One of Izuku’s packmates would step forward under the watchful eyes of Ochako, both class reps, and All Might’s steely gaze. The pack member would then greet Izuku and offer up a hand or hug to the Omega so he could acknowledge their scent. Many of them also offered up praises of Izuku’s own pheromones or just let him know that he had been missed. Afterwards they would step out of the way for the next person and join the welcome home party going on around the common room. It was all a little overwhelming to Izuku but he couldn’t deny that he was having fun; Not to mention his inner Omega was absolutely loving the situation.
Before long the line had dwindled down to just three people; Todoroki, Tokoyami, and Bakugou. Tokoyami came up first. He leaned down and gave Izuku a gentle hug, nuzzling his beak into Izuku’s fluffy curls while Dark Shadow wrapped around the two of them and let out a few quiet chuffs of glee. Izuku sighed as a little bit more of his left over anxiety bled out of him as he felt the acceptance of the only other male Omega in the class settle over him like a cloak of protection. When the shorter Omega stepped away, Dark Shadow lingered for a moment to plant an affectionate kiss on each of Izuku’s strawberry pink cheeks. Tokoyami cleared his throat bashfully and hurried off to the kitchen with some muttered excuse of wanting tea.
After Tokoyami came Todoroki who stepped up with his arms already thrust out for a hug.
“Hello Midoriya,” Shouto said, flopping on top of the Omega in a lazy facsimile of a hug, “You smell so good as an Omega.”
“T-thanks Shouto,” Izuku stuttered, returning his friend’s hug with a squeeze of his own, snuggling into the calming warmth of Todoroki’s left side, “I’m glad everyone seems to like my scent so much.”
“Mmmhhhhmmm it’s soothing,” The two-toned boy sighed, going practically boneless in Izuku’s arms as buried his face into the Omega’s neck and breathed in deeply, “It smells like everything is going to be okay.”
“OI ICY-HOT,” Bakugou hollered, smacking the other Alpha on the back, “GET OFF THE NERD BEFORE YOU CRUSH HIM! HAVE SOME GOD DAMN DECORUM OR SOMETHING!”
“Mean.” The bi-colored Alpha grunted, glaring over his shoulder at the explosive blonde like a cat that had been unceremoniously awakened from a well earned nap, “You don’t have to get jealous. I’m sure Midoriya will give you a hug when it's your turn.”
“Shut up!” Bakugou growled, crossing his arms over his chest and looking away. Izuku’s eyes widened as he saw his childhood friend’s cheeks redden slightly. Could Kacchan…..actually want to hug him? No way, that was impossible! He was probably just frustrated about Todoroki implying that Bakugou would ever want a hug from Izuku.
“You shouldn’t tease your packmates like that Shouto,” Izuku said softly, rubbing his fingers over Todoroki’s silky smooth hair. The Alpha looked up at him questioningly and Izuku tried to put on a smile to reassure him but he couldn’t stop his scent from souring with dejection, “Kacchan shouldn’t be made to feel like he has to hug me just because we’re in the same pack. No one has to scent anyone they don’t want to, regardless of pack status, and I absolutely won’t hold it against Kacchan if he doesn’t wish to touch me.”
“What?!” Bakugou whipped around, eyes wide and nostrils flared as he took in both Izuku’s words and pheromones. He blinked at the Omega, like he was seeing Izuku for the first time, before his whole face pulled down into an expression of confused rage, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT NERD?! YOU THINK YOU’RE TOO GOOD FOR MY SCENT OR SOMETHING?!”
“What?! Kacchan! No I would never!” Izuku scrambled, arms flailing as Todoroki slid off the couch and, now that he’d gotten his cuddling finished, wandered off to the kitchen to find some food, “I’m just saying that there’s no need for you to scent me if you don’t want to--”
“I’LL SHOW YOU, SHITTY DEKU” Bakugou yelled, stomping over to the floundering Omega and grabbing freckled cheeks with both hands.
Izuku squeaked in shock as Katsuki leaned down so he could better shove the Omega’s face directly into the scent gland at the juncture of his shoulder and neck. Izuku froze for a moment before swooning drunkenly as he was overwhelmed with the smell of a crackling campfire and perfect gooey caramel cookies. He went limp as his faculties fizzled with the overabundance of dominant pheromones. Katsuki used the lapse in struggling to rub his chin over any available skin he could reach. It wasn’t like the affectionate nuzzles Izuku had gotten from his other packmates, Katsuki moved with dedicated purpose like he was trying to stake a claim. Izuku’s breath escaped his throat in a weird sort of honk as warmth flooded his body.
Suddenly, before Izuku could figure out just what exactly he was feeling, the feeling of Katsuki’s touch disappeared. There was a strangled sounding growl and then his face was free of it’s pheromone prison. Izuku blinked his eyes open to find Bakugou’s feet floating in front of his face. The young Alpha was growling angrily at Ochako who faced him down with an equally fierce glare.
“Don’t you show your teeth at me, Bakugou,” She hissed, her own small Omega fangs glinting in the light, “That was rude and uncalled for. You can’t just try to scent-dominate a new Omega because you’re emotionally constipated. Get it together!”
“Shut up Cheeks! You don’t know shit!” Bakugou snarled, cheeks still pink to Izuku’s confusion, “Put me down! This is between me and Deku!”
“Actually I think you’ll find that it’s between you and myself , Young Bakugou,” Yagi’s deep voice ground out as the older Alpha took a firm grip of Katsuki’s shirt collar and pulled the boy’s face up to his, “Thank you for your assistance, Young Uraraka, but as Izuku’s Guardian Alpha I will take the over situation from here.”
“You got it Sir,” Ochako chirped, releasing her Quirk and giving their teacher a salute, “We’ll look after Izuku for you in the meantime.”
“Uh, guys, it’s really okay--” Izuku started in a vain attempt to defend Katsuki
“No it's not.” Several voices cut him off.
“Relax pup,” Yagi said, attempting to soothe his son despite the fact that he had the boy’s packmate in a vice grip, “Young Bakugou and I are just going to have a nice talk, Alpha to Alpha. I expect it's probably one that is long overdue. We’ll be back before you know it though, so just enjoy your welcome home party until then.”
“Um….alright….” Izuku mumbled as his mentor dragged his childhood bully out like an errant toddler.
“I wouldn’t worry too much over it, Midoriya,” Jirou said, coming over from the kitchen and handing Izuku a green-frosted cupcake, “Alpha parents are just kinda like this sometimes. My Dad did that to too many knotheaded idiots when I was in middle school. You just have to let them posture it out, y’know?”
“Yeah my Papa has done it as well,” Momo agreed, smiling over the lip of her teacup, “Though perhaps not as, uh, forcefully as All Might. Though such actions are to be expected of a Pro-Hero to a Hero trainee I suppose. We must hold ourselves to a higher standard.”
“Nah I think All Might just knows that Kacchan needs a good knock on the noggin to get the message through that thick head of his.” Kaminari laughed.
“Who are you calling thick headed bro?” Kirishima scoffed, pointing an accusing finger at the electric blonde.
“Yeah this is a real pot meets kettle situation here,” Sero chuckled, shoving his fellow Beta jokingly.
“What are you talking about!” Kaminari bawled, feigning offence as he shoved Sero back, “I’m nowhere near that dumb!”
“Bro!” Kirishima said, joining in on the shoving match, “Eraserhead scruffed like two days ago for stealing nesting blankets out of the laundry room!”
“I couldn’t help it!” Kaminari squealed dramatically, squished between his two friends, “They’re sooo soft!”
The three laughed as they playfully wrestled each other, trying to be careful of the various drinks and snacks they were all holding. They bounced around the room, some of the other Betas and Alphas joining in here or there. Play fighting was a common bonding activity for most packs but it was especially prevalent in packs made of Heroes.
Izuku watched on in happy contentment. It was a wonderful feeling to finally fully experience being with his pack. He hadn’t realized how much he’d missed out on by suppressing his Omega instincts. There were so many extra pheromones in the air, extra emotions and extra body language, he’d never known about because he’d locked that part of himself away. It was a bittersweet realization. All he could do now was promise himself to give his all in bonding with his pack, even if he was still shaky on how to do that as an Omega. Perhaps he could try hopping into the wrestling match? Or was that a bad idea because his scent was still unpredictable? Would he accidentally send his opponents swooning if he got too excited? Was that a bad thing or just an unexpected strategic move though?
Izuku was knocked out of his musings by a crash and a loud yelp of pain. All the noise in the room stopped as the class focused on when Kaminari lay splayed out on the ground, sleeve torn up to his elbow revealing a deep bleeding gash.
“Oh shit dude are you okay?” Kirishima asked worriedly.
“Yeah that was a hell of a trip,” Sero hissed sympathetically, crouching down and holding out a hand to help Denki up.
“Yeah,” The blonde Beta winced, letting Sero hoist him up as he curled his injured arm into his chest, “Hurts pretty bad though. I think I need to go see Recovery Girl.”
Izuku’s eyes went wide as he focused on the image of dark red dripping slowly to the floor. Something deep within him stirred anxiously at the sight. Denki was hurt. His Pack was hurt!
He would fix his Pack.
Green filled his vision and suddenly he was in front of Kaminari. The Beta looked at him with giant eyes but Izuku was single minded in his goal. He reached out, compelled by some unknown force, and gripped his packmate by the wrist. Izuku’s palm burned with heat as the room was filled with blinding green light. His heartbeat pounded in his ears. Every breath scraped through his lungs like fire. His vision went white as somebody screamed.
It stopped as suddenly as it started.
Izuku released his hold on Kaminari’s arm, the skin once again smooth and unmarred by a single blemish. His muscles went slack as his whole body suddenly felt more exhausted than when he first started his beach cleaning training. His vision went blurry and dim as the sounds of his pack muffled, like he was hearing them from underwater. He knew he should feel worried as he collapsed to the ground in a heap of limp limbs, but he couldn’t help but feel a bone-deep satisfaction. As his consciousness slowly faded into sleep, he only had one thought going through his mind.
I helped my Beta. I’m a good Omega.
Such a good Omega.
