Chapter Text
The battle was over, the fairies and specialists had won.
Sometimes it seemed impossible, but Terra gave everyone new courage.
She couldn't describe how proud she was of them all. Bloom and her friends transformed, the specialists fought stronger than ever, and Saul and she did splendidly. Even the trapped students at the school helped.
Now everyone was sitting in their rooms, probably celebrating. Everyone except her. She was sitting here on the cold floor. The headmistress had actually wanted to go to her suite too, but she hadn't made it. Exhaustion had overcome her and she could no longer walk. Not normal exhaustion, Farah realised.
Of course she knew about the spell, nobody could be immortal. But the fairy had hoped for more time. She sighed.
She would have loved to have Saul with her to confess her feelings to him.
But it was unlikely that he would come. Her specialist was looking after his boy.
The thought made her smile. His interaction with him was simply magical. Even if he wouldn't admit it, he loved the boy like a son.
Her smile faded. A son who almost didn't survive the battle.
That was why she wasn't angry with Saul. He had to take care of him.
A noise distracted her. Footsteps. Who could it be?
Hopefully not a student! It would certainly be unpleasant if one of the kids saw her like that. For both sides. Besides, it wouldn't do any good if he or she went for help. There was no help for her.
"Farah!" a male voice that sounded very familiar called through the corridor. Fortunately for her, it wasn't a student.
She was astonished. It was Saul! Could he read her mind now? Or could he sense when she wasn't feeling well, as he often did?
But that wasn't important! The main thing was that he was finally with her.
He ran to her and knelt down in front of her.
"What are you doing here?" He sounded confused.
"What are you doing here? You said you were looking after Sky."
"I did, too. He's fast asleep now. That was a lot of stress for him," he said. She nodded, wanting to delay answering his question.
"What's wrong with you? Were you hurt after all?" His eyes flitted over her body, anxiously searching for external injuries.
"No, it's just..." How was she supposed to explain that to him?
You can tell me." He thought the words would help. But they only made it harder for her.
"My magic... is getting weaker." It was working in his head.
"And not just my magic... me too."
She could see the pain flashing in his eyes. He had understood what she was trying to explain to him.
"No, I'm sure Terra can mix you something. Some kind of revitalising potion, then you'll regain your strength quickly and-"
"It's okay." But he protested vehemently: "No, that can't be right. You've been fine until now. You've probably just overexerted yourself." Now he had really worked himself up into a rage. "I told you it would be too much for you. But that's not a problem. I'll take you to your room, you can rest and then everything will be fine and-" She took his hand carefully.
"No Saul. We both know that's not true. We have to accept it. Fighting it won't help." Tears came to his eyes. "No, no, no." he repeated over and over again. "It's not possible. It just won't work." He only whispered. "I will always be with you, no matter where I am."
It almost broke his heart. He shook his head, not wanting to understand why life was so unfair.
She felt that this was the moment when she absolutely had to confess to him.
"Saul, I never told you and I regret it. I love you, I've always loved you." Her voice trembled. His eyes widened and he needed a moment to process the confession of love.
"Damn, I love you too. I can't do without you." His voice broke and so he simply hugged his fairy tightly, giving her a feeling of security.
"What am I supposed to do without you?" Now he was really crying.
"Look after Sky and the girls. Especially Bloom. She clearly has too much of a temper. You know what happened last time. Help her control it and please take care of...our school." She was now on the verge of tears herself.
"It won't be the same." It was a statement.
She didn't know what to say.
She gently wiped away his tears and slowly pulled him to her. She had been dreaming about it for so long. He understood immediately and came closer and closer.
Their lips met. It felt tender and gentle.
The kiss was over far too quickly, but her strength was fading.
He brushed a strand of hair from her face.
"I'll stay with you until the end." A promise he wouldn't break, she knew. Farah closed her eyes, savouring his presence and the warmth he radiated.
She died in his arms, with a smile on her lips.
