Manato was sitting down on the couch, leaning against the armrest with his legs spread on the seats. It was past midnight – probably – and all the lights were turned off. The only light came from the TV, that was passing some documentary that Manato was supposedly watching – but he was actually more focused on taking notes rather than watching it.
He heard the faint sound of footsteps coming from the stairs and soon Haruhiro was sitting beside him on the couch and burying his face in the other's chest.
Manato let out a small laugh, reaching the remote control and pausing whatever was passing on the screen. He finished writing a phrase before putting his notebook and pen away, and then pat Haruhiro twice on the head. The latter, keeping his face buried in Manato's chest, set himself between his legs, arms around him. Manato hugged him back, and they stayed like that for a few minutes in silence.
"So... Are you going to tell me why you're like this?" Manato asked, playing with Haruhiro's brown locks between his fingers.
Haruhiro snuggled closer, paying attention to the other's heartbeat.
"I had a nightmare." he mumbled in a muffled tone.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"We were in a RPG setting." he started. "I was there, you were there, our friends were there. And then... There were goblins." he continued, his voice faltering. "There was an arrow on your back, blood and..." he couldn't keep on due to the loud sob that left his mouth. Manato rubbed his back in a soothing motion.
"It's okay. It's over, now." he comforted.
"I know, but... It felt incredibly real."
"That's just the effect of playing that game for too long." he said, still gently rubbing Haruhiro's back. They slowly broke the embrace, Haruhiro sitting between Manato's legs. The latter led his hands to the other's face, wiping some tears that had the audacity of falling.
"I'm here. I'm alive." Manato said, planting a long kiss on Haruhiro's forehead. "And that horrible dream is gone." he smiled.
Haruhiro kissed said smile, breaking the contact to yawn.
"I should go back to sleep." he said.
"If you want to, you can stay here." Manato suggested.
"I'll end up sleeping on you." Haruhiro stated the obvious. Manato laughed.
"That's okay." he then pulled Haruhiro closer. The latter made himself comfortable, laying between Manato's legs, his head on the other's chest. He closed his eyes as Manato played the documentary again and went back to taking his notes.
