Work Text:
"You should love your golems more," Galatea says.
Avicebron stops his work to turn to face her. "I'm sorry?" He's keenly aware that Galatea despises anyone who treats inanimate objects poorly, and as a Berserker she could easily crush him if she chose to, but he hadn't thought he was treating his golems callously-
"The golems you make. I can tell that you do put love into them, or they wouldn't be able to come to life, but..." She frowns. "No, that's not right. It feels like... you're afraid to love them too much?"
He is intensely glad she can't see his expression. Part of him considers simply telling her to leave him alone, but unfortunately, admitting the truth is probably the most painless solution. "...Another manifestation of you once caused people great harm in order to bring a statue she loved to life. Another version of me once did something similar. That's why-"
"That wasn't because of love," Galatea says, with unshakeable confidence. "Pure love is only a good thing. We hurt people because of a flaw within ourselves, not because we loved too much."
"...Of course, it sounds simple when a Berserker says it." He really should know better than to try to reason with even a well-spoken Berserker.
"It is simple. You won't hurt anyone like that anymore, because you love Master." She says it as straightforwardly as she says everything else, as though it's obvious.
Panic floods Avicebron, and he immediately begins to argue, "That isn't-"
"I can feel all kinds of love that go into something's creation, not just love for the creation itself. You put your love for Master into making golems to defend them. As long as your love guides you, you don't have to be afraid of doing anything wrong."
It's not that simple. Being in love doesn't make him a better or different person than he was before. If he forgets what evil he's capable of doing, if he doesn't keep himself in check, then he'll surely betray Ritsuka's trust-
And she's leaving. Of course. The Berserkers that can talk are truly the worst kind to deal with.
