My daughter is coming to live with me. How does one talk to teenagers? I called over Billy and his son to help me. As insurance. I figure Jacob could help her integrate into this new life. He’s a good kid. I've prepared for her arrival as best as I could. I even found a helpful book at the thrift store. Had some great tips like: It's important to be understanding and patient when talking to teenagers. You should try to avoid getting into arguments, and instead focus on listening to what they have to say. It's also important to offer support and guidance, while still giving them the space to make their own decisions. Yada Yada. I'm sure I'll be able to handle this. After all, I've been through a lot in my life. I can handle anything that comes my way. Bellas a good kid. She wont cause me any trouble. Have to go pick her up now. Will write later.
I was right. I still have no idea how to talk to teenagers unless I'm interrogating them. Driving her was one of the most awkward things I've experienced in a few years. It was mostly silence and the occasional question. I'd ask, "How's your mom?" She replied, “She’s good.” And that was the end of that conversation. I didn't particularly feel like asking about Paul.
Calling over Billy and Jacob was the right choice. I gave Bella the truck. She seemed to like it. Overheard Jacob telling Bella if she ever needed some repairs he could do it for her. Shame they won't be going to the same school.
First time getting chased by someone in a wheelchair today. He rolled over my toes. He is lucky I didn't pull that chair right from under him. I am no longer sharing my beer with him. I do not share beer with toe murderers.
I'm joking. I would never throw Billy out of his chair. Not in front of Bella and Jacob. I'm Chief of police of course. I know better than to commit a crime in front of witnesses.
Bella is up in her room. We didn't talk that much in all honesty. It’ll be better when she gets used to Forks. The weather seems to put a damper on non-locals. The clouds follow them. But Bella will be a local soon enough.
She’s already registered for school. Forks High School. The only high school in our area. High school. Still blows my mind that my little girl is in high school. It doesn’t seem like that long ago when I was showing her the ropes at the docks and teaching her to fish. She didn't like it very much…
I’m sure Bella will make lots of friends. My only worry is that she will manage to somehow break her head open on a globe. Thank god Carlisle Cullen is such a capable doctor. If my one month with Bella every summer has taught me anything, if there is a way to get injured, Bella will find it.
Bella is a sweet girl, but a little accident prone. She's had a fire extinguisher go off in her face, and she once got lost in a corn maze. I guess I shouldn’t be worried, Bella’s is seventeen now, I’m sure she’ll be fine. Maybe her accidents were just a phase.
Well Diary, the games on. Peace out as the kids say.
