AITA: My co-workers think I’m stalking a professor
Now just to be clear this all started with a murder on a university campus nearby (not saying where).
This one professor (32M) kept getting involved in the investigation. He wasn’t the murderer (that guy is now where he belongs, in jail) but he had links to the victim, taught the main witness and he was always around. He was walking past the crime scene, got the main witness away from questioning, you get the picture. Always had a (usually terrible) excuse as well. Yeah, you and your perfectly tailored suit are going to fall off a four-story building and walk out of a bush without a scratch. Just say “I’m quite alright.” and expect us all to move on after that. Sure.
The next one was, to be fair, an actual coincidence and I’m the one who started asking questions first. That’s on me. I still stand by the fact it was suspicious that he had taught all four of the students that were targeted though. Besides, at this point he’s been attacked multiple times and still looks as good as he did before.
Then, finally, a murder that he should not be involved in. No weird coincidences here; no students taught by him, no coincidental meetings on campus, it was on the other side of the city. I literally said, out loud, in front of witnesses “This should have nothing to do with [him] now”. Except who was on a walk at the crime scene? Sure, he has to exercise sometimes but a) walking doesn’t give you biceps like that and b) midnight is a damn strange time for it. We ended up taking him in for questioning but again. Not the murderer just very, very suspicious and the only person I have ever seen be unaffected by my teams general intimidating demeaners. Could be a professor, could be a Greek statue.
There’s also an honourable mention for that time he walked by a coffee shop where I was talking to a suspect and then derailed the conversation every time I asked about it. He was there, the suspect stopped talking. I am not wrong in thinking that was suspicious.
So, my co-workers are slightly concerned I’m stalking this guy (I’m not) and think I’m an asshole because I think he’s hiding something.
TLDR; My coworkers/minions think I’m an asshole because I keep running in to the same guy at crime scenes and he’s not the murderer.
Edit: Did not think I would have to explain this given I arrested him, but I am a police officer, it is my job to question people at crime scenes.
YTA. fuck cops
actually read the post before you comment, asshole. professor guy is sketchy af
OP, you sound like you just need to ask this professor out on a date.
if this is about who I think it is just know we’re watching you OP
YTA. bro that’s illegal you cant just question people on teh street. he’s just some random professor
OP is literally a cop.
NTA. But, like, maybe chill out a bit.
Update: He moved into the apartment opposite me.
Previous post here.
The professor moved into the apartment opposite me. Good news, my co-workers don’t think I’m stalking him any longer. Bad news, I think it might have been because university management was getting annoyed at the number of times he was involved in our investigations. I will take, like, some credit for that, but honestly his new apartment is probably nicer than the one he was in.
Anyway, I did ask him to help out on another investigation, rather than wait until he got himself involved somehow. No, this did not stop any of my co-workers from joking about it, or that I got him a thank you present for continuing to not be a serial killer.
He did not get attacked by the suspect this time! For a professor he still gets involved in too many dangerous situations. He needs to take less midnight walks.
How do I know the midnight walks from previous weren’t a one time thing. That would be due to the mugging that I accidentally walked into and saved him from, after which he dragged me to his apartment for first aid.
Not sure if it was the ointment or the massage but whatever it was my arm is feeling like it was never hit. 10/10 would recommend the medical treatment, 0/10 do not recommend having to investigate the scene next morning. I was not aware that some of my underlings were capable of backchat.
He also picked me up out of the gutter? Took me home and cleaned my apartment?? Made me food after I woke up??? Still suspicious as hell but I would sell my soul for his cooking, it tastes like it was blessed by the divine.
TLDR; I kept running into a guy at crime scenes, my minions thought I was stalking him. He’s moved into the apartment opposite and cooks food good enough to make five star chefs cry blood.
ESH. OP the professor wants to fuck you.
No explanation there u/sw_appreciationsociety ?
None necessary. OP knows he’s on thin ice.
NTA. he cleaned your apartment while you were asleep? Wtf that’s so creepy.
FFS. He found OP in a gutter, he probably got bored while making sure OP didn’t die of tetanus or something.
Update 2: We ran into him while he was on a research trip?
Two previous posts about the situation here and here.
From the title, we ran into each other while he was on a research trip out of town to the exact place my team was heading to. I’m nearly 100% absolutely sure this trip had not been planned the day before we ran into each other. There’s no earthly way he should have been able to put together a trip that fast.
Besides the logistical nightmare that research trip must have been, I told him to not leave town! Why am I suddenly running into him broken down on the side of a road and lending him my jacket?
We got him and his students to the hotel that we were all conveniently staying at, then a whole lot of shit I can’t actually talk about on the internet happened so you’re going to have to fill in with your imagination. Let’s just say one of my team members decided to sneak off to some caves by herself and for many reasons we all had to follow.
Did the professor volunteer to come? Yes, he did. Did I make him stay behind with one of my team members watching? Absolutely. Cue adventure time for the rest of us. The professor did not stay in the hotel. Don’t know how he got past my minion, but he was definitely outside of the hotel at some point. My jacket did not smell like that when I lent it to him.
There were only three other people that I saw in those caves that weren't a member of my team, and only one I didn’t see the face of.
Also, I still don’t have my jacket back.
TLDR; I am not the asshole for making the professor stay out of a dangerous situation that he almost certainly snuck into anyway.
We get it. You have beef with OP.
so your not boyfriend is hiding his idnetity? he a criminal or something??
ESH. You both obviously need to sort some shit out.
Update 3: Final update!
Three previous posts about the situation here , here and here.
For a quick recap, I kept running into a professor at crime scenes, my coworkers thought I was stalking him for a hot minute, he moved in opposite me, we ran into each other out of town, he may or may not have a secret identity.
To set the scene, our team got invited to a wedding from some people from a previous case. As per the usual in my life now, shit got weird fast and in a way that I should not be putting on the internet. So I won’t. Internet safety kids, it’s a thing and you should all learn it.
Also per the usual in my life, the professor was there right alongside the weird shit with really truly terrible excuses. No one is going to believe “I like to exercise” as an excuse. No one.
Terrible excuses aside, I finally have an answer to why the professor was hanging around all those crime scenes and why he attracts more trouble than a comic book hero so in reparation for all his sketchy secret-keeping I’m making him a consultant.
I’m thinking about buying him a house.
YTA. if you break his heart we know where you live
ESH. What the fuck was this story?
ESH. you’re both fucking insane but good for you i guess hope you’re happy with ur not-illegal immigrant professor boyfriend or whatever it is you two got going on
