[MHA x Reader] Nightmare Comfort Series

Chapter Text

Hey…

Hey.

Hey, wake up.

Baby, please wake up.

Baby, I need you to wake up.

With a gasp, you awoke to find a dark figure looming over you. Before you could let out a blood-curdling scream, he covered your mouth. “Shushhh. It’s okay. It’s just me.”

The familiar voice had you swallowing the yell back into your throat. Your eyes adjusted to the dark, and you were able to make out Dabi. Once he realized your eyes were focused on him, he slowly pulled his hands away. “Are you okay, baby?”

Not trusting your voice, all you could do was give a single nod.

“You scared the shit out of me. I’m surprised all the crying you were doing in your sleep didn’t wake up the others.” You hadn’t realized you had been crying out in your sleep. You reached up to touch your face and, sure enough, your cheeks were damp with tears. Seeing the startled look in your eyes, Dabi gently brushed his thumbs along your cheeks, wiping them away.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Dabi had always put up a hard front among the villains, but for you, his eyes always softened when you were in private. Even giving you nicknames, like “baby.” You couldn’t help but notice his small signs of affection as you spent more time together. Like right now as he sat down on the edge of the bed, patiently waiting for your answer.

You cleared your throat a bit before you replied, your voice still coming out a bit raspy. From the late hour or crying in your sleep, you weren’t sure, but you pushed on anyway. “I’m good. Just… bad dreams, ya know?”

“Been there. Well, not been there, I guess. I still get nightmares sometimes.”

When you didn’t say anything, he asked softly, “Do you want to talk about it?”

You shook your head back and forth. This wasn’t really something you were ready to confide in someone about. At least, not yet. You had found yourself growing closer and closer to Dabi though. Maybe one day you could both share the source of your nightmares with each other.

“Okay, well…” He lifted the blankets, nudging you over with his hip so he could settle in beside you. You raised an eyebrow at him, but decided to keep your mouth closed. As you laid beside him, the smell of his cologne filled your senses. It was oddly comforting in a way. You couldn’t remember the last time you slept next to someone.

This is nice, you thought. Just the two of you, lying side by side, staring up at the ceiling. While Dabi climbing into your bed felt quite uncharacteristic of him, you couldn’t help but feel a little happy that this softness was reserved just for you.

He wrapped an arm around you, gently pulling you into his chest. Your eyes went wide in surprise, but it felt… right. You bit your lip, trying not to smile. If he even got a hint of your joy, you were worried that he might leave. He patted your head and began running his fingers through your hair.

Slowly, you began to relax against him. As you closed your eyes, you heard him whisper, “You better not tell anyone that I slept in your bed tonight.” His chest rumbled as he held back a laugh. Feeling a little brave, you reached for his hand, interlacing your fingers on top of his chest. His body stiffened briefly at the contact, but he began to breathe easy again.

“Only if you swear not to tell anyone that I cried over a bad dream tonight.” You retorted.

This time, a real chuckle escaped his lips. “Deal.”
