The Story Of Us

Work Text:

Pran looked at himself in the mirror as his heart starts beating fast. Nervousness was all he felt.

After 5 long years since they were forced to be separated; today is the day where he can finally see him again.

Pran and Pat have decided to mutually part ways after their final escape. It was a painful decision to make but they say every blessing is a curse. Only by accepting the curse in full measure can you receive the blessing in full measure. Sometimes you need to lose the battle before winning the war.

Pran hasn’t seen Pat for so long. They both decided to go abroad for their remaining years of University as it would hurt less rather than seeing each other almost everyday in campus or at home and pretending to be strangers. It was a much easier way to suppress their feelings.

Pran went to the UK, while Pat went to the US. After graduating, they both stayed there for a couple of years before coming back. And it has been a month since Pran returned to Thailand.

No, Pran have not seen Pat yet nor was he kept in contact but how did he know that Pat was back? It’s because of the promise they made to meet up again after 5 years.

Pat and Pran was sitting by the beach as they take in their final night together. Neither wanted to face reality but both knew it was bound to happen.

Their relationship was a losing battle especially at their current age. It was basically a dead-end relationship without their parent’s blessing and they both knew the end is coming sooner or later and unfortunately, that end was today.

A break up would hurt less if it’s due to a tragedy or betrayal. It is less painful to break up due to falling out of love because it shows the incompatibility between two people. But unlike them; the love they have for each other is unconditional and they were fated for each other but was forbidden by their surroundings. Their relationship was forcefully ripped away from them and it was never their choice to make.

Tears were falling on the face of both men who looked lost and broken. Hands held tight as they cried their soul out.

“I don’t want to let you go” Pat said just loud enough for the two of them to hear.

“I don’t want to lose you again” he continued.

Pran bite his lips as he’s trying hard to stop his tears from constantly falling.

“You won’t lose me Pat. I’ll forever be yours. My heart only belongs to you. No one else but you”

A small smile appeared on Pat’s face.

“Pran” he said as his boyfriend hummed in response.

He wiped his boyfriend’s tears with his thumb before slowly bringing his head forward as both forehead touch.

“I love you Pran”

Pran freeze, shocked at what came out of Pat’s mouth. It was the first time Pat has ever said he loves him.

“I love you so so much. You have make me the happiest and I have never felt so much love for someone but you. Thank you for being my side and thank you for loving a silly man like me”

Pran smiled widely despite the growing amount of tears escaping from his eyes.

“You have no idea how much I love you too Pat. I have love you since we were young. You were my first love and you’ll also be my last love. Thank you for choosing and loving me”

Pat felt his heart burst to what Pran had just said. He was his first love... Pran had love him for so long. A sudden guilty feeling suddenly rushed over him.

“I’m sorry Pran. I’m really sorry” Pat suddenly apologise making Pran looked at him all confusedly.

“Why are you sorry?”

“I’m sorry that we didn’t work out. I’m sorry for what my dad did. I’m sorry for everything that had happened in the past. I’m sorry that I was brought up to hate you. I’m sorry that I was blinded by our parent’s rivalry and I’m sorry for ruining us”

Pran shakes his head as he put his hands onto Pat’s shoulder. Caressing it slowly.

“You didn’t ruin us. This is neither of our fault. What your dad did in the past is not your fault. It was out of your control. We are both victims of a feud that has nothing to do with us. They made their problems, ours, and we don’t deserve that. So don’t apologise for something you didn’t do”

Pat closed his eyes as he cried silently. Pran was right. They were a product of a fued that has nothing to do with them which causes them nothing but pain and anxiety. This isn’t fair and he no longer stand this. After awhile, he opened his eyes with full determination.

“Let’s make a promise. We will meet each other again 5 years from today. We will be adults with jobs. We will be our own people with no dependency on our parents. We will be big enough to decide for ourselves and I promise you that on that day I will never let you go ever again. Is that okay? Please?” The last word came out slowly as Pat begged his boyfriend.

Pran stood still for awhile and it almost crushed Pat. He was scared that Pran had other plans, which was to permanently let him go but all his worries was washed away when Pran put his fist up in front of him.

Pat smiled brightly as he connected the fist before saying their iconic line: “Deal”.

A deal was made and it was a promise they both looked forward too.

-End of flashback-

Exactly five years later and as if they are actually fated to meet; his old high school has decided to make an alumni reunion.

Pran is finally going to see Pat there. He knows it. He is determined that Pat is back in Bangkok and is here to fulfil his promise.

Pran take a final look into the mirror before smiling widely. Today is the day where he will be reunited with the love of his life.

The reunion was going well. He had met so many of his old friends and some of them are even married with kids.

It was good to catch up but his heart was only waiting for one person. But the person sadly has not arrived yet which honestly, is making Pran anxious.

The night went by and there’s still no sign of Pat. The reunion was almost over and Pran is slowly giving up.

Pat has lied to him. He didn’t fulfil his promise and stood him up.

Deep down, he knew it was too good to be true but he was trying his best to be positive because he trusted Pat. But being 5 years apart without any contacts; anyone would have moved on. He won’t be surprised if Pat has found himself someone new and has forgotten about the promise he made that night.

He excused himself from his friends as he went outside. He needed some air to calm himself down.

Pran walked silently as he tries to shut his mind off but as an over-thinker, he just couldn’t. He blinked the tears that was threatening to fall as he slowly breathe in and out.

After a few minutes of walking, Pran sat on the bench that holds so much memories. It was the bench where Pat and he wrote their first song together. Despite the bitter feeling inside, Pran smiled at the memories. Oh, how he missed the good old days.

Pran sat there silently as he takes reality in. He and Pat had apparently permanently ended 5 years ago but he only knew today, which is 5 years a little too late. He sighed. It hurts but he needed to be strong; he was in public.

Pran closed his eyes and kept doing breathing exercises to compose himself but was interrupted by a sound coming from behind.

He turned around and his eyes went wide and as if a dam was burst, hot tears vigorously streamed down Pran’s face when he saw who it was.

“Sorry I’m late” said the person.

“Pat...” Pran said as he tried his best to smile. “You came” he continued as tears didn’t stop.

The late man came forward and stood in front of him and without any hesitation, the man got down on one knee, making Pran panic as his heart beats fast.

“Pran Parakul, being apart from you was the hardest and most painful thing I have ever experienced. But it showed me how much I love you and how special you are to me. Every minute without you makes me feel so miserable; it was like a constant nightmare I couldn’t get rid of. I missed you and not a single day of my life where I don’t yearn for you. I miss your pickiness, I miss your nag, I miss your smile, I miss your touch and mostly importantly, I miss being yours.

You are my inspiration and motivation. Everyday I am motivated to study and work hard so I can build a bright future for us. I promise to take care of you and to never let you go ever again. I want to see us grow old together and prove to everyone that our love is stronger than ever.

You are my happily ever after and I hope I can be yours too. I promise to be the best husband you deserve so that the only tears that is allowed to escape from your eyes are tears of happiness and for your beautiful smile to never fade. So, Pran, can you make me the luckiest man on earth by marrying me?”

Tears dropped from Pat’s eye as he ended his speech. He looked up at Pran with hopeful eyes as he nervously bite his lips.

Without any doubts or uncertainty, Pran nodded his head vigorously.

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” He answered as he jumped to hug the man in front of him.

Pran hugged him tightly as his body melt into Pat’s. The hug felt like home and being able to be in Pat’s arms again made Pran feel euphoric.

“I miss you Pat. So so much” he cried into the man’s shoulder.

“I’m here now and I will never ever let you go ever again. I promise” Pat whispered in his ears as he caressed his fiancé’s back.

“I love you Pran. Forever and always”

“You have no idea how much I love you too”

They break apart slightly as they looked at each other with such loving eyes before their lips slowly connected together. The kiss was passionate yet so tender that the world should stop on its axis and take note of their love. They finally feel at peace to be in each other’s arm again.
