Following Evan Buckley.

Chapter Text

Ever since the lawsuit, Buck has never kept in contact with Chase. Chase & Buck knew where each other lived not that they would ever see each other again. Buck and Eddie’s relationship was still kinda shaky so Buck left it alone, he knew if they wanted to talk to each other than they would talk.

Buck decided to go out for a few drinks to get his head clear. Once he was finished he was heading home, he wasn’t expecting to head home with a busted face and bruises all over him. Buck didn’t know where to go. He was debating going over to Eddie’s but he figured Eddie wouldn’t want to see him, neither would Bobby. So Buck went to his last resort.

Buck stood on the doorstep at 2:00 in the morning. Chase opened the door and his eyes widened. Buck was on his doorstep. Shivering, Bleeding and Scared. Buck’s eyes we’re slightly dazed and confused. Chase examined Buck and it looked like he had been assaulted.

Buck looked up at Chase with tears welled up in his eyes and he swayed lightly. Buck let out a mumbled sentence.

“…didn’t know where else to go.” Then Buck collapsed into Chase’s outstretched arms.

Chase carried Buck to the guest room and laid him down cleaning his bruises. He was mad at the kid, of course but he had a heart and this kid showed up on his doorstep bruised and beaten. He was gonna help him. After 2 hours or so, Buck awoke to find Chase still dabbing at his wounds. Buck knew he was thinking intently.

“Chase?” he whimpered out as the hardness in Chase’s eyes faded. Gently patting him on the cheek.

“You’re up. Who did this to you Buck?” Chase spoke softly.

“I- I can’t remember, how did I get here?”

“You rung my doorbell and I found you on my doorstep.”

Chase paused and resumed.

“Did Eddie do this to you?” Chase sneered.

“God no-no he didn’t.” Buck stammered out.

Chase let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He didn’t know why he was so angry about someone hurting the kid anyway.

“I’ve shouldn’t have came here, I’ll go.” Buck made a move to stand up but was stopped by Chase’s hand to his chest.

“You aren’t going anywhere. Not at this state and not at this time of night. You’re gonna sleep.” Chase insisted.

Buck gulped.

“How do I know you won’t hurt me?” Buck questioned.

“I wouldn’t hurt you Buck.” Chase patted Buck’s shoulder softly and headed towards the room door.

“Get some rest. I’ll figure out how to help you in the morning.”

The door to the room closed and Buck blew out a breath. He wiped the tears flowing down his eyes and laid onto the bed falling into a deep sleep.

Chase pondered in his room. He was confused on why Buck would think to come to his house when hurt. Why not Eddie or Bobby? Chase was confused someone had put their trust in him. He was going to find out what happened to Buck and then rain hellfire onto the 118.

Chase awoke with a groan and went to his bathroom to brush his teeth. Once he was finished he made a cup of water with ice and dragged himself to where Buck slept.

“Hey Buck. You up?”

Buck raised with a whine.

“Mhmm, I’m up.”

Chase walked over to where Buck sat on the bed and handed him the cup of water.

“Drink Buck.”

Buck drunk. As he sipped the cool nourishment, Buck looked up into Chase’s eyes. As soon as Buck stopped drinking he asked Chase a simple question.

“Why are caring for me? I almost ruined your life with that lawsuit.” Buck quoted.

“I’m not worried about that anymore Buck. I am worried about you though so when you finish that water get some more rest.”

Chase made his way to exit the room.

“Wait- where are you going?” Buck questioned

“To the store. Then to your station and telling them what happened to you.”

“No you can’t do that.” Buck said quickly.

“I can & I will and you can’t stop me because you’re hurt now relax. Everything will be fine. I won’t let them see you unless you want, okay?”

“Fine.” Buck slipped back into bed and pulled the covers on top of him.

“One hour tops, Buck.”

And with that Chase closed the door to the room, got dressed, put on his jacket and headed out the door.

Once Chase got what he needed for Buck and some more groceries he decided it was time to head to the station. Chase pulled up the station slowly and parked his car onto the side of it. Chase hesitantly got out the car and went into the station.

“Is that-“ Chimney started.

“Chase Mackey, yeah.” Hen finished.

“Here we go, lawsuit part two.” Eddie sighed.

“I’m pretty sure that lawsuit wasn’t for you big guy.” Chase said looking towards Eddie, glaring daggers.

“Anyways, I stopped by because you all must be wondering where Buckley is.”

Eddie immediately stood up.

“Where is he? I swear to god if you-“

“You’re blaming the wrong person, Diaz. Buck’s hurt. He got beaten and assaulted. He’s back at my place resting. I mean, It’s funny because he showed up on my doorstep asking for help. You all treated him like shit so he resorted to the one that caused this anyway? How convenient.” Chase ranted.

Eddie’s heart fell so far down his chest he thought he would collapse. Why didn’t Buck come to him? No matter how mad he was he would always take good care of Buck. Without thinking, Eddie pushed Chase onto a railing.

“Take me to him.” Eddie demanded.

“I’m afraid he doesn’t want to see you right now.” Chase’s voice changed drastically dark.

“Now get off of my jacket.”

“Eddie, let go.” Bobby’s voice yelled

“Is he okay?” Hen chirped in.

“He’s fine. Now if you don’t mind, I have someone to take care of.”

Chase slid beside Eddie and walked down the stairs to the outside of the station. When he got home Buck was watching tv on his couch.

“What the hell are we supposed to do?” Eddie asks.

“I’ll call Athena. Hen are Chimney you call Maddie. And Eddie you just, stay put. I mean it.” Bobby storms off to his answer clicking on his phone and he walks.

Chimney heads over to the couch area to talk to Maddie, Hen following him. Eddie stands there like a lost puppy. He wants to cal Buck but he doubts Buck would answer. He also doubted Buck even had his phone on him. Eddie felt really guilty. He couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Buck felt that off with me, he went to Chase for comfort. Chase Mackey out of all people. That’s like Buck going to his parents or so Eddie thought. They all thought of Chase as this mean person who only wanted money but he was genuinely caring person. Eddie continued to ponder. Wait- Was Chase somewhat protective of Buck.

When Eddie mentioned wanting to see Buck, Eddie felt Chase tense. Chase looked him dead in his eyes with a cold menacing look. If looks could kill, Eddie would’ve definitely been dead. Chase was being protective of Buck. That was Eddie’s job. Eddie just wanted to hold Buck. To tell him it was okay but he couldn’t. Not yet.

Chase parked his car and entered the house. Chase walked in to see Buck with his hands on his eyes sobbing on his couch. Buck must’ve not noticed him because he hadn’t looked up or maybe he did and just didn’t care. Chase sat the grocery bags down and slowly made his way over to Buck and sat next to him.

“I’m scared, Chase.”

Chase wasn’t expecting Buck to open up to him. He definitely wasn’t expecting Buck to lean his head into his lap and continue sobbing. Chase reluctantly put his hand on Buck’s back and rubbed it in comforting measures.

“You’re alright. Nobody’s gonna hurt you. Not when I’m around. I promise you.” Chase comforted.

Chapter Text

Buck had fell asleep in Chase’s lap. Chase was seriously concerned for this and he wasn’t gonna let anyone near this kid until he figured out what happened. Especially Eddie. That was Chase’s plan and he was sticking to it until he heard a knock on his door.

“Chase Mackey, LAPD.”

Chase gently lifted Buck off his lap and laid him back down in the couch. Chase made his way to his front door and swung it open.

“Can I help you?” Chase asked.

Chase’s face dropped when he realized it was Athena.

“Is Buck here? I need to speak with him.” Athena said.

“I don’t think you have a warrant. Buck isn’t ready to talk just yet.” Chase snapped.

“Why should I believe you if anything you could have done this to Buck.” Athena said.

“Buck showed up on doorstep and asked for me. He was afraid to come to you all because of rejection, he was scared you guys wouldn’t care so unless Buck wants to talk to you, you’re not coming in.”

“Chase, what’s going on?” Buck questioned.

Chase peered his head into the head facing Buck.

“It’s all good Buck. Go back to the room, I’ll be in; In a sec.”

Chase then stepped outside and cracked the door.

“You need to leave and find out who did this to Buck. You guys can apologize later.” Chase says.

Chase steps backwards and makes his way into the house locking the door behind him.

When he enters the house he grabs the bag he never used off the table and headed to Buck’s room.

“So uh, I never gave you these pills for the pain. I got you some cream too.”

Chase drops the bag next to Buck on the bed and heads for the door.

“Wait- don’t leave.”

Chase pauses and rotated back into Buck’s direction.

“I- I think I know what happened to me.” Buck says.

Chase takes a step forward and sits next to Buck on the bed.

“Should I call Eddie?” Chase suggests.

“No please. I can’t see him right now. I can’t-“

“Alright, Alright. I won’t call him. It’s okay.” Chase reassured.

“I was at the bar and this guy, he kept creeping around me and I told him off a couple of times and I should’ve watched myself but I got too drunk. I think he noticed and he- he followed me and he brought himself onto me. I could’ve fought him off, I tried so hard but he was so strong.” Buck ranted.

“It’s not your fault, Buck. You were drunk and taken advantage of you couldn’t have done anything. This wasn’t your fault, I swear. As long as you’re with me, I won’t let anyone hurt you, got it.”

Buck answered by leaning into Chase’s embrace and sobbing into his hold. Chase played in his hair and whispered reassuring sentences into his ears. They stayed there until they both fell asleep in each other’s arm. Chase holding Buck and Buck latching onto him.

—————
Buck woke up to Chase gone and immediately panicked.

“Chase!” Buck sprinted up from his spot on the bed and whipped the guest room’s door open. He stumbled on his two feet around the house trying to find Chase. Buck rounded a hallway corner and bumped into someone. This someone stopped Buck by their hands on his shoulders and pulled him into a hug.

“Hey, hey. Buck, it’s okay. I’m right here. I got you.” Chase hadn’t realized how broken this kid really was.

“It’s like 3 in the morning, Buck. Why are you up?” Chase pulled back just a little to see Buck’s face.

“I-I had a nightmare and I woke up, I-I couldn’t find you Chase, I couldn’t-“

Chase pulled him into a hug again. His head on top of Buck’s. He gently walked Buck back into the room and tucked him in.

“I’m right around the corner if you need me.”

Buck’s eyes met Chase’s.

“Why are you being so nice to me?” Buck demanded.

“Why wouldn’t I. You’re still a human being Buck. Everyone makes mistakes.”

Buck smiled softly at the man in front of him and laid down on the bed.

——————
The next morning Eddie dropped Christopher off to school. Once he got back home, he searched up Chase’s attorney’s office and dialed the number that came up. Eddie was surprised was Chase actually answered the phone.

“This is Chase, how can I help you?”

“Hey Chase. Listen it’s me Eddie. I’m sorry about the other day, I was just wondering if I could speak with Buck.”

Chase sighed.

“I-“

“It’s okay, Chase. I think i’m ready to talk to him now.

Chase hesitated but handed Buck the cell phone. He didn’t leave Buck’s side though.

“Eddie?”

“Buck. Oh my god. A-Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, Chase is taking real good care of me.” Buck answered.

If that sentence didn’t hurt Eddie’s heart he didn’t know what else would.

“That’s um- that’s good. Listen, we’re all pretty worried about you. When can we see you?”

“Soon. I’m still working on getting better. I have to go but would you mind giving Maddie this number. I need to call her.”

“Okay, Buck.”

Buck hung up the phone.

“You okay, Buck?” Chases asked.

“Never better.” Buck said sarcastically.

Chase actually chuckled at that. Then he blurted out,

“I was thinking breakfast, how about we go out?”

“Sounds like a plan.” Buck said cheerful.

Eddie’s day just got better. He didn’t know if he & Buck were exactly on good terms but he was happy that Buck was even willing to talk on the phone with him. That was one step to success.

Eddie was slightly jealous of Bucks comfort in Chase. But he was happy Chase was taking care of Buck. He just wanted Buck to be happy. He deserved it. He wanted to hurt the person that made Buck hurt.

Chapter Text

Chase had let Buck pick where’d they go for breakfast. Buck still needed help. He was gonna be a slow process to getting help. Chase figured Buck should get out of the house since he was in the house must of the week. Chase was surprised Buck agreed to go out with him. They choose, well Buck chose to eat at a breakfast deli. They sat at a booth facing each other.

When the waitress came, Buck ordered Bacon, Eggs and Pancakes. Chase ordered Coffee and French toast. The waitress told them it would be a 15 minute wait and Chase nodded.

Chase noticed Buck shifting with his fingers and keeping his head low. Chase stared at Buck and tilted his head slightly to the side.

“You alright, Buck?”

“Every time i’m in public-I feel as if he’s gonna pop out.”

“We could take it to-go if that makes you feel better.” Chase suggested.

“No, I’m okay. I think. Do you think I’m ready to see Maddie? I mean, I kinda miss her.” Buck ranted.

“If you’re ready than you’re ready, I won’t stop you.” Chase added.

“Can I see her? Today?” Buck said

Chase slightly laughed.

“You don’t have to ask me Buck, I’m not your dad.” Chase said now serious.

Buck smiled nervously and they waited for the fifteen minutes to go better. The waitress brought their food out and they started digging in. In between bites Chase mumbled-

“I’ll call her when we get in the car, sound good?”

“Yeah.”
————————
Back at the 118 station, Eddie, Bobby, Athena, Chimney, Hen & Maddie sat around the table.

“I went over to Chase’s. He told me Buck didn’t want see us just yet. Which I don’t blame, he’s got more trauma added to his plate.” Athena stated.

“But, Buck goes to Chase?” Bobby asks.

“Think about it. With the lawsuit we treated him like shit no offense. He got hurt while on outs with us. Of course he probably didn’t feel like we’d care. So, he probably went to Chase for comfort because that’s all he knew at the time.” Hen said.

“I just don’t trust him.” Bobby said.

“We all don’t. But I haven’t heard Buck complain.” Chimney butts in.

Maddie was about to speak up when Eddie interrupted her.

“I spoke to Buck last night.”

The rest of the team turned their heads to him with slightly wide eyes.

“What? How did you-“ Maddie starts.

“-I called Chase and he gave the phone to Buck. Buck told me he was fine & that Chase was taking real good care of him. He also wanted you to call Maddie.” Eddie finishes.

“What’s the number, I’ll call now.” Maddie splutters out.

—————————
Chase & Buck had both finished their plates. Chase left the money and a tip on the table for the waitress to receive. They both got into the car and Chase started it.

“We should try and get you to a hospital. It’s been two days.” Chase stated.

“I hate hospitals but sure.” Buck mumbled.

Chase chuckled and his phone rang as he was just about to pull off.

“This is Chase. Right. Okay, passing him the phone right now.” Chase muttered.

Buck took ahold of the phone and pressed it to his ear.

“Hello?” Buck said more of a question.

“Buck?” Maddie whimpered.

“Maddie.”

“Are you okay? I’m worried sick, I heard you got hurt and I-“ Maddie rambles.

“I’m fine, Mads. Just a little sore and the bruising are healing. I’m actually on my way to the hospital right now.” Buck looked into Chase’s direction and slightly smiled.

“How about you guys come down to the hospital and meet me there?” Buck suggests.

“We’re on the way.”

Before Maddie could even hang up the phone the crew were already throwing on coats and rushing to their respective vehicles. Maddie quickly following suit.

Buck & Chase arrived to the hospital first, obviously. Chase checked Buck in and told the nurses everything they needed to hear. He didn’t want them to think he had done this. Chase was guided to the waiting room and sat there like a waiting duck.

The 118 arrived at the hospital and then were guided to the waiting room. Chase and the 118 met eyes.

Awkward….

The 118 hesitantly sit down. Bobby slightly glaring daggers at Chase. Hen broke the awkward silence first.

“So, how’s the kiddo doing?”

“He’s doing good, really good. But it’s still gonna take time. Just warning you guys now, he might be a little flinchy with you. He was with me sometimes.”

“Did he say why he didn’t come to me?” Maddie asks.

Chase sighs and continues.

“He was afraid he’d cause a argument between you and Chimney.”

Eddie glances at Maddie.

Maddie looked down and the family of Evan Buckley were called. Everyone immediately stood up.

“Hey everyone, uh Evan asked for someone by the name of Chase?” The doctor said unsure.

Chase awkwardly raised his hand.

“That’s me.”

Chase walked towards the doctor and the doctor motioned him towards the back rooms.

Chase got to Buck’s room, thanked the nurse and stepped in the room.

“Hey Buck, you okay?”

“They wanna do a few exams and possibly a uh- a Rape- kit.”

“Do you want them to?” Chase asked.

“I think so. I don’t know, maybe.”

“Try and breath Buck. Letting you know, Athena might ask for a statement. You’re family’s out there, I can tell them to come in and I’ll step out.”

Buck shivered the “You’re family’s.” but nodded his head.

“Who first?” Chase asked.

“Mads.”

Chase reached the door.

“Can you stay? Like in the waiting room area?”

“Yeah Buck, I’ll stay.” Chase shot off a reassuring smile to Buck and opened the room door, heading towards the waiting area. Once he entered he saw the 118 sending worried glances his way.

“He asked for you Maddie.” Chase nodded in Chase’s direction.

Maddie stood up and practically ran to the room. She slowly opened the door and entered. She saw Buck slightly stiffen.

“Hey, Maddie. I’m sorry you should’ve been the first person I called but I couldn’t.”

Maddie grabbed Buck by two hands on his cheek which caused Buck to flinch at first but then to relax in her hold.

“You don’t have to be sorry, Buck. It wasn’t your fault, you were scared.”

Buck nodded in her embrace and let the shiny clearing in his eyes drop to his cheeks. Maddie pulled Buck into a hug slightly tight and whispered reassuring sentences.

“They did a rape kit.”

Maddie sighed.

“That’s good right, don’t be pressured okay?” Maddie paused.

“Do you wanna see, Eddie?”

“Yeah.”

“Good. Because he’s pacing in that waiting area like a dad, well he is a dad but you get what I mean.” Maddie smiled and Buck laughed.

Maddie gave Buck’s cheek one last pat and she walked out, calling Eddie in. Eddie had a million things running through his mind as he stepped closer and closer to Buck’s room.

But things were different once he stepped in. He felt his mind clear, the only thing on it was Buck. Eddie didn’t miss the bruising on Bucks wrist but he pretended to ignore it. Not wanting to bring up those memories to Buck.

“It’s been a while, Buck.”

Buck nodded.

“Yeah it was.” Buck said.

Eddie sat down pulling the chair just a little closer to Buck’s bed.

“I’m so sorry Buck. I should’ve been there for you that night where you would’ve felt comfortable coming to me. You deserved better than that and i’m sorry. I took Christopher from you and he misses you a lot. I don’t know if we’ll ever be the same again or if you’re ready but do you think you could come over or is that too early to ask?”

Buck looks down and traces the pattern on the floor.

“That’s okay, you don’t have to decide now.”

Eddie and Buck continue to talk a little mor until Eddie decides he has to get back to Christopher.

Once Eddie left, Buck settled into his room and fell asleep. When he awoke the next morning, the doctor came in early to tell him he could go home.

Buck called Chase to pick him up. Chase did and they sat in the car of the hospital parking lot.

“So, you wanna go to Eddie’s or back to yours?” Chase asked.

“I think i’ll go to Eddie’s.”

“Okay.”

Chase put the car into drive and started moving towards the hospital exit. Buck shifted in his seat at the thought of being inside Eddie’s house again. The lawsuit had ruined those little moments for them but in the hospital Eddie assured Buck it was okay.

And Buck always knew Eddie wouldn’t lie to him so he felt safe when he said it. The drive to Eddie’s wasn’t too bad. Slight traffic but overall a good thirty minute drive.

Chase pulled into the driveway of Eddie’s home and allowed Buck to leave the car when he was ready.

“Text me if you need me, alright?” Chase says.

“Will do.”

Buck grabbed his bag and made his way to Eddie’s door ringing the doorbell as he stood waiting.

“Buck.” Eddie breathed out.

“BUCKY!” Christopher’s jolly voice ring throughout the house as he rushed past his father and into Buck’s awaiting arms.

“Hey, little man.” Buck gripped onto Christopher tightly. He hadn’t seen Christopher in so long. He missed the little boy.

“I missed you, Buck.”

“I missed you too, Christopher.”

Eddie smiled as he looked down at the pair kneeling in front of him. He knew Christopher would be happy and he knew Christopher deserved it.

Buck hung with Christopher for a good amount of hours until Eddie decided it was time for him to get to bed. Buck & Eddie sat on a couch next to each other.

Buck sighed.

“Listen I know you guys aren’t really cool with Chase but he helped me when nobody else could. I went to him because I did trust him enough to not let me die. No we’re kinda friends or you could say a little brother and big brother thing. He’s a good guy, you just have to warm up to him, I promise.” Buck said.

“I still don’t like him but i’ll give him a try for you.” Eddie said.

“Good.”

“I’ve been meaning to ask uh who assaulted you, Buck?” Eddie asked.

Buck shifted uncomfortably.

“Can we not talk about this right now?” Buck asked.

“You’re right. I’m sorry.” Eddie said.

“Are we okay now?” Buck asked.

“With the lawsuit? Buck nothing would ever change how I feel about you, okay. You gotta know that.”

Buck smiled and actually laughed at Eddie.

“What’s funny? Hey, don’t laugh at me.” Edie nudged back playfully which caused Buck to laugh even harder.

“Okay, I stop. Thank you, Eddie. Really.”

“I’m gonna do the rape kit this Sunday.” Buck ranted.

“D-Do you want me to be there?”

“Yes. You, Maddie, The 118 and Chase.”

Buck sighed.

“Listen I know you guys aren’t really cool with Chase but he helped me when nobody else could. I went to him because I did trust him enough to not let me die. …….

“I just put Christopher to sleep. You should get some rest.” Eddie says.

“Can I uh sleep here?” Buck questioned.

Eddie stared at Buck with pure confusion on his face.

“Of course, Buck. You don’t have to ask. You wanna um let Chase know?”

“Yeah, I’ll text him.” Buck replies.

“Okay, good.”

Eddie guides Buck to his room and lays him on the bed.

“Where are you gonna sleep?”

“I’ll take the couch.”

Eddie walks out of the room leaving no room for argument.

Buck: Hey Chase, sleeping over to Eddie’s tonight.

Chase: Do you need a ride in the morning? I can pick you up if you need.

Buck: That’ll be nice. thanks.

Chase: No problem, just text me when you’re ready.

Buck sets the phone down on the dresser and stares up at the ceiling, fighting his sleep. It’s been half an hour and Buck couldn’t sleep.

“Eddie!”

Eddie came sprinting into the room.

“Can you uh stay in here with me?” Buck asks.

“Dios mio Buck. Me tenías asustado!” Eddie stammered.

“I have no idea what you just said.”

“Of course not.”

/

Eddie slowly sat onto the bed with Buck.

“Have you taken a shower?” Eddie asks.

“Yeah.” Buck responds.

“Are you feeling any better?” Eddie asks.

“Every time I feel like i’m getting better reality hits and then i’m back feeling useless. When i’m happy I think it’ll last forever but i’m quickly humbled when all the pain comes back rushing in. Then I realize how much I need you all, how much I need Chase, how much I actually need guidance to help me get better. It’s like- I’m alone in a room surrounded by a bunch of unknown faces. I can barely sleep. Every-time I do, I can picture me thrashing trying to get from under whoever was holding me.” Buck says.

“I’m sorry we weren’t there, we betrayed you.”

“You didn’t just betray me. You betrayed my trust and my heart.”

“Do you really feel that way?” Eddie asks.

“I don’t know.” Buck’s voice got softer as he spoke the words into the scented room.

“I know we screwed up but I would never lie to you or break your trust. I love you too much.” Eddie explained.

“Where we’re you when I needed you?” Buck spoke as he sat on the bed, Eddie sitting up with him.

Eddie stares at Buck dumbfounded before he opened his mouth but nothing came out.

“I’m not trying to be mad at you, Eddie. I just don’t know if I could do this quite yet.” Buck cried out.

“You wanna leave? How are you-“

“I’ll have Chase stay at my loft with me.” Buck never lets his eyes meet Eddie’s.

“C- right. I’m gonna go check on Chris.” Eddie gulps and scrambles out of the room.

Buck felt guilty. It’s not like he didn’t want to make things right with Eddie and the rest of the team but now was really not a good time. Buck took his phone from off the dresser and dialed Chase’s number.

Chase: Wow, it’s early! You okay?
Buck: I-I think I wanna come back. I don’t know what-

Chase could hear this kid was in the middle of a emotional breakdown.

“Im on my way. Sit tight.”

Chapter Text

Buck is visibly upset. He didn’t want to make Eddie angry but he had to get it off his head. He didn’t know how else to put it.

Chase pulls up at the house and Buck was already by the door rushing out. Not forgetting to mumble a bye out before he left. When Buck got into the car with Chase he leaned his head against the cold window.

“You alright, kid?” Chase pondered.

“I don’t know what I am. I can see why Eddie’s mad at I get it. But I had every fucking right to file that lawsuit. It wasn’t fair, I wasn’t allowed back on the job even after I was cleared. That was the only option I had. I wasn’t just gonna sit there and let my job go to waste.”

“You don’t have to explain yourself, Buck. You’re right. You did have every right to fold that lawsuit, you may not have executed it the right way, I take half blame on that but you did still have every right. Got it?” Chase turned his head slightly in Chase’s direction.

“Yeah, I guess.” Buck says.

“Wanna go back to yours?” Chase asked.

“Uh- yeah. I think i’m ready.”

“That’s good. Real good.”

/

Fifteen minutes later they pull into Buck’s complex.

“Keep me company?”

“I have a meeting on the phone around 8 if that works?”

“I don’t mind. Just don’t disturb my sleep.” Buck laughs and slowly exits the car.

Chase follows behind him.

“Yeah yeah.”

/

A couple of hours later, Chase was on his meeting and Buck was sleeping when suddenly Chase heard yelling.

“Excuse me.” Chase put his client on mute and rushed to up the stairs to where Buck was.

“No! Don’t- Don’t touch me!” Buck yelled and thrashed away from Chase’s touch. Buck’s eye were blown and his breathing way too fast.

“I’m not gonna hurt you, Buck.” Chase said. Chase gently held onto one of Buck’s hands. Their eyes met.

“Listen to me. You’re safe. Your with me, Chase. Nobody’s gonna hurt you, i’m here. Chase expected Buck to yank from his hold once again but Buck didn’t.

“I’m-“

“It’s okay, I’m right here.” Chase pulled Buck into a hug and continued to whisper comforting sentences.

“Your client..” Buck starts.

“I’m sure they hung up by now.” Chase laughed and pulled back from the hug.

“Will it get better?”

Chase slowly let his laugh fade and he stared at Buck.

“It will. It just takes time. You have a lot of people that care about you, Buck. Who love you. Whose gonna help you.”

“What if I never get back to my original self?”

“People change, Buck. You’ll be happy sooner or later, I promise.”

Buck slightly smiles.

“Go back to sleep, kid.”

“Thanks Chase..” Buck turnt over and drifted his eyes back closed, hearing the sound of Chase’s footsteps receding back downstairs.

Athena was sitting in her work office when she received a call from the local hospital.

“Hello, I’m calling about Evan Buckley.”

“O-Ok. Is everything okay?”

“Everything’s fine but the rape kit has just came back.”

“Is it positive?”

“For a rape no. Sexual assault yes.”

“So you have DNA?”

“Yes. We have a suspect in Evan Buckley’s attack.”

“I’m on my way.”
