    Summary

Written as a gift to the wonderful and tremendously gifted artiste theotherwillow who desired some unrequited, then very much requited love. You have that and two of my favourite side characters in Lestrade and Mrs Hudson who are brilliant.

DK. John rushes out of the flat to get away from impulse to kiss Sherlock, ends up in pub where Lestrade gets him very drunk. John says he must be insane but he's in love with Sherlock. John can't walk home; Greg invites him to stay in spare room at his place. In morning Greg gives him breakfast and a pep talk about being honest with Sherlock.

Sherlock worries: he was feeling so fond of John that he's afraid he had given himself away and John - straight, perhaps horrified by Sherlock's emotion - had rushed off. Mrs Hudson tricks Sherlock into coming down to change lightbulb, have a cup of tea, chat. She tells him that John admires his bottom and things aren't hopeless.

When John goes back home, he hesitates about facing Sherlock, gets a bit confused when Mrs Hudson drops hints about Sherlock's fondness for him. But when he begins just one word to Sherlock, Sherlock stares at him so intently that John gets the message to be silent.

John and Sherlock pine secretly for each other, each convinced that talking about it will ruin their friendship. Week later, Greg invites John to pub again, ends up disappointed to hear that John settled for a "look" instead of talking. Sherlock talks himself out of asking Mrs Hudson for advice, settles on sofa to focus on "stop loving John".

Sherlock is bored and refusing to consider the case info, flash drive Mycroft sent. John snatches it, takes off running. Sherlock chases; they weave around pedestrians, vault over hood of container truck, over railing into park, until Sherlock tackles him.

Pressed together on lawn they realize they've crossed some boundary. John reaches up and kisses Sherlock then wants to hide away; Sherlock can't believe there is hope after all so it takes him a moment to kiss back. They're both muddy and cold and neither minds.

Meanwhile Lestrade goes to Baker St with new case; Mrs Hudson invites him in to confer about John and Sherlock.

When John and Sherlock get back, Mrs Hudson reads them the riot act about their failing to admit love for each other; life is too short to waste being stubborn. Greg thinks they both had it coming. Brilliantly Sherlock agrees with Mrs Hudson, "we'll get started right away."

Upstairs, Sherlock asks John if Mrs Hudson was right about John loving him; John confirms it. They share a shower, kissing and stroking to orgasm. Sherlock realizes he can say "I love you" to John. That's settled then, properly clear.
