mornings with you

Work Text:

When Aran was young, he didn’t really like mornings.

It wasn’t that he had trouble getting out of bed; in fact, he was good at waking up early. But when his father was home, mornings meant breakfast with him, which wasn’t exactly pleasant.

He enjoyed mornings a little more after enrolling in Sirius Academy and moving into the school dorm, even if his roommate was rather obnoxiously loud at times (or all the time, really). Haru’s endless positivity was a little infectious, after all, and if he got tired of it, the other Clarity members were only a few rooms away. But then he entered his third year and moved into a single room, his senpai gone from the dorm, and—quite honestly, mornings became boring again.

It was a few days after Aran graduated and moved into the South dorm that he awoke in the morning to a room that was not his own.

“Hmm...?”

He blinked sleepily, turning his head to see—

“Good morning, Aran ♡”

Homare was next to him, watching him with a fond smile.

“Homare-san...?”

Homare giggled. “Sounds like you’re still sleepy. It’s pretty early. I’ll go prepare breakfast, so you can go back to sleep if you want. I’ll wake you once it’s ready ♪” He leaned over and placed a kiss on Aran’s forehead before getting up out of bed.

Aran nodded, still too out of it to quite process what was going on. “Okay...”

He closed his eyes again, resting his head on the pillow. He let himself relax and sink into Homare’s bed, memories of the previous night together slowly coming back to him. He could hear some rustling as Homare moved around the room. The door opened and closed, and he was left in silence.

Then it hit him.

Homare-san...? Making breakfast...?

He shot out of bed, instantly awake. “Wait, Homare-san—!”

“I cannot believe I’m doing this.”

“And yet, here you are ♪” Homare poked Shizuku’s cheek. “Can’t say no to me, can you~?”

“I’m not doing this for you, it’s for Aran.” Shizuku shrugged Homare off as he started cracking eggs into a pan on the stove.

“Aww, don’t be so cold~ You’re making enough for me too, aren’t you~? ♡”

“If you don’t go put on some pants right now, you’re not getting any.” Shizuku threatened.

“What, like you don’t see me naked all the time~?”

“Not while we’re eating!!”

“Not while we’re eating food, maybe—”

Shizuku threw a dish towel at him. “Just go!!”

“...Shizuku-san??”

They both turned to see Aran standing in the doorway to the kitchen. Unlike Homare, who was wearing an open button-up shirt and nothing more, Aran was fully dressed in his usual sweatpants and long-sleeved t-shirt.

Shizuku’s exasperated expression immediately softened. “Good morning, Aran.”

“Aran~ ♡ I thought you were going back to sleep?”

“You said you were going to make breakfast so I came to stop you...”

“You have that little faith in me?” Homare pouted.

“Of course he does. Anyone in their right mind would,” Shizuku said coldly.

“That hurts~ But don’t worry, that’s why I woke Shizuku up and asked him to make it instead ♪”

“Why do have to get up early to make breakfast for your morning after??” Shizuku scowled as he flipped an egg.

“If you didn’t want to, you could have just said no~”

Shizuku sighed in defeat and changed the topic. “More importantly, Aran, are you okay? This pervert over here didn’t do anything weird to you, did he?”

“Oh, um.” Aran unconsciously raised a hand to his shoulder. As soon as he realized what he was doing, he moved his hand to scratch at his neck, blushing. “N-No, I’m fine...”

“Aran?” Shizuku looked at him with concern. “Did he hurt you? You can be honest with me. I won’t judge.”

Homare laughed. “It’s not Aran’s shoulder, it’s mine. See~?” He pulled his shirt open enough that Shizuku could see the bite mark on his shoulder. “Aran was very daring ♡”

“H- Homare-san...!” Aran turned bright red. “I said I’m sorry...!! You’re the one who told me not to think too hard and to just listen to my instincts...”

“It’s okay, Aran. It happens.” Shizuku reassured the younger boy.

“Hey, where's my look of concern? How come you were so worried about Aran but when I get hurt it’s fine?” Homare frowned.

“Because you get off on it.” Shizuku snapped.

“Okay, that's true, but—”

Please just go put some pants on. And wake up Kaname while you’re at it, the food’s almost ready.”

“Okay, okay~” Homare sauntered out of the kitchen and down the hallway.

“...Sorry for the trouble, Shizuku-san.”

“You don’t have anything to apologize for, Aran. Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yes, I’m really fine.”

“Then that’s all that matters.” Shizuku smiled warmly at Aran.

The moment was broken by the sound of a door opening down the hall, followed by a loud gasp.

“Uwah~!! Akichan, you pervert~!”

“Oh, for the love of...” Shizuku groaned, then raised his voice. “I meant after you get dressed!!” He huffed, turning back to the food. “I’m going to throw his breakfast in the damn trash.” But contrary to his words, he served the food evenly onto four plates, placing them neatly on the table. “Why on earth do we put up with him again...?”

His exasperated complaints had a tinge of fondness to them, and Aran laughed. “Because we like him the way he is, don't we?”

Shizuku sighed, but let a small smile escape as he sat down. “I suppose I can't deny that.”

“What was that, Shizuku~? ♪” Homare entered the room again, this time in his night robe.

“Nothing.” Shizuku feigned ignorance, taking a sip of his coffee instead.

“Aran, what did you just say?” Homare approached Aran, a smug grin on his face.

“U- Um, because we...” Aran could feel his face turning red, embarrassed at being put on the spot.

“Stop that, Homare, you’re making him uncomfortable.”

“But he looks very cute blushing like this, doesn’t he? ♡”

“Hey, no fair, wait for me!” Kaname finally appeared, dashing into the room from the hallway. “I want to see cute Ranchan too~“

Shizuku rolled his eyes and picked up a napkin to wipe a stray bit of toothpaste off of Kaname’s chin. “Take care of yourself first, Kaname...”

Kaname laughed. “Sorry, Shiichan~”

Aran sighed in relief as the attention shifted away from him. But as they all sat down around the table, laughing and chatting animatedly, he couldn’t help but smile.

He had a feeling he was going to like mornings a lot more from now on.
