Day 6 ~
Promise/Trust ▪︎ Idol/Celebrity AU!
Miyagi locals claim to have spotted idol Yamaguchi Tadashi back in his hometown with another man. Everything about this man is unknown except for his blonde hair. Judging by a photo taken on a shop’s surveillance camera, the man is estimated to be about 190 centimeters when comparing his height to the 180-centimeter idol. Is he a friend, family, significant other, or romantic fling? More information to come.
“Care to explain why we’re here again?” Akaashi asked as he, Bokuto, Tsukishima, and Kuroo stood in line in front of a concert venue. They somehow managed to get near the front of the line in only thirty minutes, but in Akaashi’s mind, it was thirty minutes much too long.
“I swear nothing I do works for you people. I try to do something nice and you still complain.”
“You did randomly come out to Tokyo and ask us if we wanted to go to a concert,” Kuroo replied. “That’s not like you.”
“Whose concert even is this anyway?” Akaashi asked, stepping forward as someone tried to cut in front of them. He sent the person a pointed glare that easily sent them running. “So many idols perform in Tokyo that I lose count.”
Tsukishima blushed. Like actually turned red. “It’s Tadashi’s concert.”
Bokuto and Kuroo gave each other knowing looks. Akaashi rolled his eyes at the two. “Why come all the way out to Tokyo? Didn’t he do a concert in Miyagi?”
“Yeah but I had a game that day so I couldn’t go. Tokyo is the next closest place since he’s hitting all the major prefectures.”
“So you're being supportive.”
“He’s being a fanboy,” Bokuto smirked, wrapping an arm around Tsukishima’s shoulders. “Because…he is Freckleface’s biggest fan.”
“I honestly can’t blame you for not wanting to come alone.” Kuroo looked up and down the line. “This line is practically only girls.”
“His target audience are teenage girls so it's not surprising. Plus, he said that people usually come to his concerts as couples so I would look stupid if I came alone.”
“So I’m third wheeling?!”
“Not technically,” Akaashi answered. “Yamaguchi isn’t with us so Tsukishima doesn’t have a date.”
“But I would assume that we get backstage access judging by that paper Tsukki’s been holding.”
“At that point, you will be third wheeling.”
Kuroo groaned. “I swear your little boyfriend gets snippier every time I see him, Bo.”
“What are you talking about?” Bokuto moved to hug Akaashi from behind. “Keiji is an angel!”
“And he gave us five backstage passes. He probably assumed Kenma was coming.” Tsukishima paused. “Where is he anyway?”
“Concerts aren't really his thing. He says they're too loud and too many people."
"I can't believe that we get to go backstage to meet a celebrity," Bokuto awed, getting excited as they neared the front of the line.
"Says the famous volleyball player who just got invited to represent Japan in the Olympics," Tsukishima said, rolling his eyes.
"Says one of the most popular D2 volleyball players out there."
"Okay, princesses," Kuroo interrupted. "We're at the front of the line."
Tsukishima walked up to the window. "Four tickets, please. And we only need to redeem four of the five backstage passes." The man eyed the paper. "They're legitimate. Got them from Tadashi himself."
"Are you Tsukishima Kei?"
"That would be me." He pulled out his ID just to be safe.
"You know, Yamaguchi-san's been waiting for you for a while. He tells every ticket vendor to see if those passes will get redeemed."
"Don't tell him, actually." Tsukishima took his ID back. "We're old friends and I want to surprise him."
"Alright then." The man behind the counter pulled out four backstage passes. "Just go up to the side of the stage when the concert's over and someone will take you gentlemen backstage. Enjoy the show."
"I've never been this nervous…" Yamaguchi whined, placing his head between his arms. He only sat up when he heard his hair and makeup artist, Yachi Hitoka, start to panic.
"What are you nervous for?" his manager asked. "You've done this dozens of times already."
"You wouldn’t get it, Shimada-san. There's a…special someone I want to come tonight."
"That man from all the tabloids?" Yamaguchi nodded. "He's an actual person?!"
“He’s my boyfriend.”
“I didn’t know you had one.”
“We wanted to keep our relationship a secret since he’s a professional athlete.”
“Who is he?”
“Like the volleyball player?” Azumane Asahi, Yamaguchi’s stylist asked. “My fiancé’s a huge fan of his.”
The idol nodded. “But with both of us being famous, we wanted our relationship out of the limelight. And between his games and my tour, we don’t get to see each other a lot. That day when we hung out in Miyagi was the first time I’d been home to see him in almost a month and it was only because I had a concert there. He couldn’t come to it though because he had a game. He keeps telling me that he's going to come to one but our schedules just never line up.”
“And with you going all the way to Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara after this…”
“It’ll be a long time before I see him again.” Yamaguchi sighed again. “I just really want him to come tonight.”
There was a knock on the door. Sugawara, his vocal coach, didn’t even wait for an answer before he walked in. “Concert starts in…why the frown?”
“Love life issues,” Shimada answered.
“More stupid tabloids?” Suga asked, sitting down next to Asahi on a bench not far from the mirror that Yamaguchi was at.
“His actual boyfriend.”
“How am I the only person who did know about this…?”
Suga stood up again, walking over to the idol. “Did something happen between you two?”
“No…it’s just that we’re practically going to the other side of Japan tomorrow and I’ve only seen Tsukki once in like two months. If he’s not here tonight then I probably won’t see him for another three or four.”
“I get that. Traveling is hard.”
“How do you and Daichi do it? I mean, you’ve been with me since day one and you’ve never complained.”
“I do miss him a lot. But we call and text all the time so we’re always talking. When was the last time you texted him?”
“I called him this morning. He said he was on a train, probably on his way to practice. Like…I’m happy for him and all my other friends from high school, but they’re all professional volleyball players so we hardly ever see each other.” He tilted his head back, blinking back tears with a small smile. “Yachi’s gonna kill me if I mess up this eyeliner.”
“Well, just get out there and kill it. This show’s supposed to be televised anyway so I’m sure he’s watching and supporting you from wherever he is.”
“How do you always know the right thing to say? I swear you’re my life coach, not my vocal coach.” He then stood, turning to Shimada. “Why can’t you be more like that?”
“I offer to treat everyone to dinner and this is the treatment I get?” He slapped Yamaguchi’s back. “Go get ‘em, kid.”
Tsukishima was entranced as soon as Yamaguchi stepped on stage. He always seemed so different when he was performing. He gained all this confidence that the blonde had never seen before.
He felt a surge of pride as he opened his mouth and began to sing.
The crowd erupted in cheers.
"I don't think I've ever seen you smile like that."
He turned to Akaashi. "Are you looking at him? How can you not?"
He turned back when the beginning of "Summerholic!" started to play. He could easily say that his boyfriend had come so far.
Yamaguchi’s concert had gone smoothly enough. The fans were very interactive, though he wasn't surprised since he was in Tokyo after all. All the while, he continued to look through the crowd, but all the glowsticks weren't helping.
It wasn't until the middle of his last song, "Date" that he spotted him. He nearly stopped singing.
Standing there in the crowd was Tsukishima.
The two made eye contact and Tsukishima's gaze grew a little warmer. He then saw both Kuroo and Bokuto pester the young adult and he nearly started laughing. He quickly waved at the group before finishing out his song.
His concert couldn't end soon enough.
He tried not to rush through his closing speech as he watched all the girls' eyes light up in the audience. As soon as he stepped off the stage, he felt a different kind of giddiness.
"What's with you? I've never seen you this excited after a concert."
Yamaguchi looked at Shimada. "He's here. I saw him!"
"Tsukki! He's here! He came!"
Shimada placed a hand on his shoulder. "Let's get you into something nice and comfortable for when he gets here then."
Yamaguchi was practically bouncing in his seat as he waited for security to knock on his door. Shimada couldn't help but laugh. He'd never seen the young adult so excited.
When someone did knock, he bolted from his chair only to frown at who was at the door.
"What a warm welcome. I thought you'd be happy to see us."
"Kuroo! I am happy to see you. I just thought that-"
"That he would be the first one to greet you?"
Kuroo moved out of the way to reveal Tsukishima holding a bouquet in his hand.
Yamaguchi practically monkeyed onto the taller man as he kissed him, placing his hands on the blonde's cheeks. The two only parted when Tsukishima pulled away, mumbling something about breathing. He held out the bouquet. "You did amazing tonight."
"Tsukki…" He hugged him again. "I can't believe you actually came."
"I told you I would try, especially since I missed your concert in Miyagi." He wrapped his arms around Yamaguchi's waist. "I'm so proud of you. You've come so far."
Shimada cleared his throat. Yamaguchi turned to face him. "Are you going to introduce your friends to the rest of us, Tadashi?"
"Right!" He gestured to the group. "Kuroo Tetsurō, he's a sports promoter for the Japan Volleyball Association. Akaashi Keiji, he's one of the top-rated manga editors as of late. Bokuto Kōtarō, he plays for the MSBY Black Jackals." He then kissed Tsukishima. "And Tsukishima Kei, he plays for the Sendai Frogs. He's also the guy the tabloids have been talking about."
"It's a pleasure to meet you all. I'm Shimada Makoto, his manager. And this is Sugawara Kōshi, his vocal coach."
"Oh, you guys haven't eaten anything right?" The group shook their heads. "Do you think we could arrange to have four more people, Shimada-san?"
"I am not third wheeling," Kuroo groaned, and Yamaguchi laughed as Akaashi pulled out his phone.
Multiple sources have reported having seen Yamaguchi Tadashi dining out with a group of people after his Tokyo concert yesterday. Eyewitnesses report that the mysterious blonde-haired man—who can now be identified as professional volleyball player Tsukishima Kei—was spotted with his arm around the idol's waist. A few even reported they saw the two kiss, though no evidence has been found. Is this Japan's hottest new relationship?
