Chapter Text

As Eichi looked out the window of the hospital, he admired the cherry blossoms from under his window, the light pink twirling down onto the floor with each breeze. Spring had finally come to wash away the horrible winter. Eichi always felt better around this time, yet his chest felt heavy. Maybe it was from coughing so much or maybe the uneasiness looming over him. He knew soon it was time to leave the idol industry, yet he decided to ignore the inevitable future that was approaching and still admire the beauty of spring.

It didn’t become easier for Eichi after this, he couldn’t brush it off, it would only pile up. Managing Ensemble Square and preparing to become the heir of the Tenshouin company was already enough for his fragile body, yet being an idol only made it worse, and it was visibly taking effect on him. Wataru, his long-time boyfriend, was especially concerned.

As Wataru walked to Eichi’s office, skipping along with his hair in a ponytail and holding a tray of two tea cups for him and his beloved to drink, he spoke out as he opened the door. “Eiii~chi! You’ve been working so hard, you need to relax you kno-”

He was cut off to the sight of Eichi who had dozed off on the desk, his exhaustion finally caught up to him. Wataru tried to grin to hide his concern, yet he couldn’t keep watching the blonde shorten his already limited lifespan. Placing down the tray onto the desk and gently picking Eichi up, he spoke again, more gentle but more serious,

“My dear, I’m so worried about you. You are so fragile yet you treat yourself like you are as strong as a diamond, you are only a human as I am. You must take care of yourself, and certainly I can tell your work is bothering you too, I can read my emperor’s feelings as if they are my own.”

“I can’t do it anymore.” Eichi mumbles into his lover’s chest, “I can’t be an idol anymore.”

Wataru looks down at him, “Oya, is that what is bothering you? You’ve been an idol for so long, it’d make sense to retire, it will be relieving for you-” Wataru was going to continue until he noticed the soft snores of his boyfriend and saw he had fallen asleep again. Upon seeing this, he smiled, planting a gentle kiss on his forehead and taking him to his apartment to let him enjoy a well deserved rest.

Wataru supported Eichi as he worked through retiring from the idol industry. Tori and Yuzuru were, of course, the first people to learn. The four held meetings and discussed what to do with Fine. Yet, it was easily decided, Wataru would retire soon after to pursue his growing theatre career, while Tori and Yuzuru would both pursue their own solo careers.

“Though, I refuse to let Eichi-sama leave the idol industry so easily! We should have a big final performance! One as sparkling as Eichi-sama himself!”

Eichi only grinned, “I was hoping we could do something like this, I don’t think I’d enjoy leaving in such a quick manner.” Eichi paused for a moment as if he was storming an idea, before squeezing Wataru’s hand in excitement. “We’ll have an extravagant final performance. It will commemorate all of Fine and celebrate how this unit has grown. We’ll call it; Graduation live.”

“Kyaaaaaa! Eichi-sama always has the best ideas!”

“Fufu~ It’s not to say all of your helpful ideas over the years haven't helped me grow my creativity.” Eichi complimented the younger boy in return.

Tori beamed with happiness, yet before he was to say anything else, he prevented himself from doing so and cleared his throat, “E-enough of that! We should focus on preparing for the live!”

And so they did, preparing for the final performance ever was surely emotional. It was weird when Eichi graduated from Yumenosaki, yet he knew he could still be an idol. Back then being an idol still felt new to him, but now, he felt the curtains of the show were slowly coming to a close.

After a dance rehearsal for the live, Eichi walked with Wataru to his car like he had done every day, yet Eichi seemed disturbed again. Noticing Eichi’s upset expression, he stopped walking, causing Eichi to stop as well. Before he could ask Wataru why he stopped, Wataru was quick to speak.

“Is something bothering you, my dear? Do you suddenly wish to not retire?” Wataru asked, his grip on Eichi’s hand getting tighter.

Eichi looked away, “It-it’s childish of me to think this way.” He stuttered. Pausing for a second, he exhaled. “Tomorrow we’re announcing my retirement and...It feels like rather than wishing me well everyone will finally be able to celebrate the fact that I will be gone. They will finally get to give me the revenge I deserved for so long, I don’t blame them, yet I would be lying if I said I don’t feel upset to accept this. Though my guilt is much stronger than that feeling.”

Wataru chuckled, “Ever so childish, my dear. The revenge would’ve been delivered to you long before, if you had deserved anything more than what you already have gotten. Does my mask not prove that?” He asked

Remembering that confession one night on the Yumenosaki rooftop, Eichi smiled, looking down at him and his lover’s hands.

As they continued to walk, Wataru had gotten a bittersweet idea.

Chapter Text

After long preparations, and many many tearful messages from his former classmates about his unexpected retirement (or, ‘graduation’) announcement, today was the day, the day of the Graduation Live.

It was a beautiful run of how the current Fine had grown, singing their first songs that only existed to make sure a certain group could reign supreme in Yumenosaki to the songs they later wrote to enjoy themselves and love who they were together, as a unit or even, a family.

Remembering all of the times the unit had spent close together, the DDD, the Tanabata festival, Eichi Sundays, and the list goes on.

Every single practice and performance had finally caught up to him, and it dawned on him that this would be the last. Occasionally while performing, Eichi felt his eyes tear up, yet he continued to perform and use every ounce of his energy to make this as memorable as every moment he had spent with Fine as the large crowd cheered them on.

Finally, as the last song came to a close, Eichi’s head turned to his unit mates, all three displaying a large grin.

Eichi’s body felt heavy, he felt like he couldn’t speak. It wasn’t exhaustion that had caught up to him, it was his emotions that finally caught up. After a long and grueling few seconds, he finally gathered the strength to speak. “Tori, Yuzuru, and my beloved Wataru.” His voice cracked at saying their names, tears beginning to pour from his eyes as he proclaimed himself to them.

“Thank you, thank you so much. I love you all so much. This unit was supposed to only be a tool yet you three brought life to Fine. You three taught me the joy of being an idol, and to that I can only thank you millions of times. I was never supposed to deserve people like you to accept me and yet-”

Wataru placed a finger over Eichi’s mouth.

“Don’t start crying now! The main attraction is about to start, the final farewell!”

As Wataru turned Eichi to the curtain behind them, facing away from the stage, he witnessed it rise.

Once it rose, there was an emotional sight to witness. The entirety of Yumenosaki standing in their unit clothes, smiling. People he had grown close to, people who hated him for what he had done, all standing together to wish him well.

“What is-”

“Don’t ask questions now, Eichi-senpai! It’s time to sing a sparkly song and wish you a happy farewell!” Subaru proclaimed.

As the music started, the tears leaking out of Eichi’s eyes only grew.

The spring is a farewell season
Everybody leaves on a trip
The pale pink petals
Of the cherry blossoms congratulate us
Continuously our relationships were pleasant
Time is a treasure chest of memories
Don't be sad
We're just climbing the stairway to adulthood

See ya. Wave your hand softly.
See ya. See ya.
Don't cry.
Ah when we turn around
Our friends will always be there

The spring is a port of goodbyes
Each one is setting sail
The wind of the sunbeams in the sky
Overflow us with the new season
It was very painful to not stay the same
Though it would be good if time stops
But while we smile
Let's open the door before our eyes

See ya. Wave your hand softly.
See ya. See ya.
Don't cry.
Ah when we turn around
Our friends will always be there

See ya. Wave your hand softly.
See ya. See ya.
Don't cry.
Ah when we turn around
Our friends will always be there

When april comes, sadness
Will be a twinkling memory

Eichi’s breath hitched, why were they here? Why were they all smiling and wishing him farewell? He didn’t deserve this, he was the least likely to deserve something like this.
Wataru’s voice saved him from drowning in his own thoughts,
“No matter what’s happened in the past, you’ve done a lot for Yumenosaki. Right now, we’re all setting aside our differences and wishing you a farewell because you deserve it, Eichi. You believe you deserve to go through hell for what you’ve done but that is far from the truth. This is what you deserve. “ Pausing for a second, Wataru grabbed Eichi’s hands and twirled him around. “Now, there’s no time for tears now! Let’s enjoy this moment! Amazing!”
Eichi looked at Wataru and smiled, using his sleeve to dry his tears, he looked at the group in front of him. “Wataru is right…Thank you. I know I’ve done a lot to hurt you all in different ways, and I don’t think I can ever do anything that’ll make up for the damage I’ve done, but seeing you all here to wish me a farewell, no matter what I’ve done, means the entire world to me. Thank you, all of you, thank you for being here.”

“Eichi-senpai!!” Subaru exclaimed before running to him and hugging him tightly, many people joining in to make a group hug.

“You’ll have a sparkling future!”
“Please remember to take breaks and relax, I’m wishing you a nice ‘graduation’, Kaichou.”
“Please visit whenever you’d like, Onii-chan...Ehehe..”
“Eichan-senpai, have lots of fun, fun!”
“Waah! I’ll miss seeing you perform, Eichi-kun!”
“Remember to sleep well, Ecchan~”

“Oh Mika-chan, I think I’m going to cry, this is making me so sad!”
“N-no! Don’t cry, you’ll ruin yer makeup!”
“Don’t forget about me, you blockhead emperor!”

“See, Eichi? They all love you.” Wataru had finally proved to him something he denied for so long.

He was loved.
