One Good Thing Is A Blessing

Chapter Text

The sand was silk between Megumi’s toes. One foot at a time he stepped out of his geta into the receding waves. The grains were cold as they were pulled back oceanbound, as was the air between night and dawn. It was that odd fuzzy blue, all there was were the crashing of waves and sleeping silence somewhat ethereal but still visible was the seafoam’s froth, stark in all the murkiness before daybreak.

The water penetrated through his clothes and clung cold to his skin with the persistence of leeches. He shouldn’t have been so surprised by it but he was. Once the sea lapped above his knees Megumi began to wade against the resistance.

‘...Sorry…’ He absently touched his stomach apologising for the cold. He clenched his jaw so his teeth didn't chatter and braced against the hard knock of waves trying to push him back inland, but he was already up to his thighs and to get out soaked would be much more uncomfortable.

A stroll on the beach with a gourd of sake to watch the sunrise was always good company. There was an omega in a pale kimono, dressed quite formally for a suicide. A little melodrama never hurt. Sukuna kept walking his straight line across the sand with no intention to interfere or aid.

He kept watching though, the closer his path led him the clearer he could see. A young male omega by the lithe figure and style of dress, but what was striking was his paleness, skin as white as seafoam and cotton. Sukuna thought he had a nice neck, long and slender. A shame to let beauty perish at the cusp of maturity, and greater shame to lose another male omega when there were so few and the demand was so high. Who knew if he was bonded to an alpha that beat him or maybe he was sold into slavery by his sire, it was hard to say but fun to guess. Sukuna was in a good mood with good company and good wine.

The fresh scent of mint and sweetness of dew and honey, they were carried over in the breeze. The wind whistled suddenly and a wave heeled stiff and high before crashing down all at once wrangling a cry from the omega, he was smothered immediately and submerged.

‘Shit.’ Sukuna swore and dropped his drink. That scent was intoxicating however mute, such a damp morsel and so sad latched on through his nostrils and hooked the alpha like nothing ever before. It dragged him so hard into the water by his nose his frontal lobe throbbed.

Sukuna ripped off his scarf and kicked off his sandals as he found himself charging with great splashes erupting from every step into the tide. He had always had his alpha on a trained leash, it was more decadent and depraved than the man was- More of a hindrance than anything else at times, only rarely he allowed his fangs to descend and lash out like a feral dog-- This time his instincts viscerally ripped through all autonomy and gripped him with a frenzy of pure panic he had never felt for himself nevermind for a stranger.

The omega was battered by the sudden surf, lost under the water much too light to stay upright and dragged by the backwash further into the sea. The alpha was solid and far larger, hardly inconvenienced by the waves crashing over him like a boulder being splashed with a mere pail of water. Sukuna knew how to swim in all weather, to know how came second to walking where he was from. Before the tide fell over his head a fourth time he had grabbed the omega by the collar and pulled him out of the cyclic churning of the current and began to wade back.

Megumi was tossed back onto shore, back hitting the hard sand compact with water, he gasped and turned quickly to his side, hacking and shaking violently. His collar was splayed and disheveled where Sukuna had almost torn when dragging him out. The elegant column of his neck was bare without even a modest collar and unblemished with claim. His furisode signified he was from the upper class and unmarried.

Sukuna stood between the omega on the ground and the horizon collecting his breath and studying the little whelp with his eyebrows furrowed. The saline washed away their scents and filled their senses with only salt, he only saw a skinny shivering boy pitifully choke up his lungs.

Maybe he was just the crazy type without an alpha bullying him at home.

‘Go home little omega, your kind will be snatched up into a cushy life above all the other bitches no matter what hole you crawled out of.’ Well, he was already here, may as well finish up the saviour thing with some comforting words.

The glare that was tossed at him was something else, Sukuna’s eyebrows raised into his hairline. The little thing actually glowered and growled when he turned, most unbecoming of a highborn omega. Feisty little bitch. The utter rudeness aside, those had to be the longest eyelashes Sukuna had ever seen, laden with heavy droplets of tears and seawater as if wronged. His eyes were a clear green like willow leaves, absolutely fair head to toe and only framed beautifully by jet hair and lashes dripping like ink in the slow rising sun.

Megumi gathered his collars and pulled them tight, scrambling to his feet to leave without the intent to spare the alpha a second glance. He quite frankly had enough of their kind. The one in front of him was the type of alpha that could be picked out at a glance, with a frame so large and voice so deep.

‘Oi, oi, that’s the thanks I get for saving your life, little omega?’

Megumi clenched his hands and resolutely stomped himself in the opposite direction trying not to shiver or fall over in only his tabi. It would be too humiliating to go back for his sandals.

‘That’s not the direction of your home!’ Sukuna called after him.

‘How would you know!?’ Megumi spat back venomously.

The alpha merely pointed in the direction of the footprints he had left and his geta in a pile.

They glared at each other in stalemate for a few beats until the omega lifted the sopping wet hem of his robes and took off sprinting back into the sea.

 ‘-Oh, you little bitch...’

Megumi found himself bound up in the brutish alpha’s scarf and thrown over his shoulder. ‘Put me down!’ He kicked and squirmed all gangly long limbs and tight muscle, hard enough he should have been long dropped by any other man- But he was massive, twice the size of any other alpha he had ever seen and just by flexing his grip Megumi’s limbs numbed between muscles denser than brick. Not to mention, the heavy musk caked onto the well worn scarf he was being smothered in was making him lightheaded. He couldn’t smell the alpha having been equally washed out by saltwater but the dry sash stank with the most potent pheromones he had ever experienced, this had to be a prime alpha, the savagely violent type and threatening enough to cow other alphas. The prison tattoos binding his arms weren’t doing much to comfort the omega either. Megumi became even more frantic at the whiff of burning ash, putrid iron and danger . He had to get away before his limbs softened and he was submerged in terror until he couldn’t move in submission.

But Megumi was so tired, running away since yesterday evening, not having eaten since that morning and he was so damn cold . He struggled until he ran out of energy and went limp.  ‘Agghhh!’ He slumped in frustration. He dreaded whatever would become of him in this behemoth of a man’s grasp and hoped he would die by the end of it.

Sukuna didn’t really have much reason to drag the omega back to his current hideout. Probably spite. You want to die so bad? Too bad, you’ve pissed me off, I’m going to make you live. I’ll kill you with kindness, hah . He might've had a bit to drink. Sukuna dropped him onto the old wooden floor of the fishing hut. A smallpox outbreak was rampant in the area at the moment, being quite convenient for a squatter. The charcoal in the hearth was still hot, burning embers from his earlier use.

Megumi kicked himself into a corner, the four walls weren’t far apart enough and he didn’t even have his hard wooden sandals to throw at the menacing looking alpha. He tossed the scarf away repulsed, the most terrifying thing about that scent was the hint of sandalwood incense which threatened to relax him. Megumi cursed his secondary gender and his eyes darted around looking for an opening, a weapon, anything.

‘Tch- I’m really not cut out for this hero thing…’ Sukuna muttered and tossed something Megumi’s way. His sandals clacked across the wood.

Megumi froze. Why did he stop and pick up his shoes for him?

The alpha shook off his belt and kimono and Megumi tensed again, he watched him wring it out and toss it next to the hearth with intense scrutiny. More prison tattoos, all over his body even leading down under his trousers.

‘Do what you want but I’ve decided you’re not dying anymore little bitch, you’re raking up a debt with me.’ Sukuna threw something directly at Megumi and this time he caught it.

A gourd. As humiliating as it was, his numb lips had started to peel with how dry and caked they were with salt. Megumi hadn’t even had a sip of water since yesterday.

It’s another stalemate until Sukuna dropped down onto crossed legs and began to poke the charcoal with a stick, throwing more wood in to revive the heat. This alpha is fucking deranged, Megumi thought. A criminal with his extensive record etched onto his skin so excessively he looked like he enjoyed prison food, scarred deeply on his face, built like a brute who would want to save his life? And picked up his shoes for him. If he had wanted to rape him he had plenty of opportunity to do so already and yet he sat across the room looking bored to high hell.

What did it even matter? Megumi ripped off the top of the bottle and tipped it back. To almost spit it out. Alcohol.

The stranger scoffed, ‘It’ll warm you up better than water, little bitch.’ Sukuna’s canines peaked out when he smirked wide and sinister at the omega bristling. Megumi’s lip jerked as if resisting to growl again. He did think the kid was cute, in that pathetic way feral kittens hiss and bite when you pick them up by the scruff. Quite uncommon for a high birth omega, usually just by the sight of Sukuna betas and omegas alike cowered, even after smelling him the scrawny thing still dared to glare daggers at him.

Intriguing if anything else, maybe he was crazy. Or broken.

‘You can leave in the morning, I find that people usually aren’t in the mood for suicide when the suns up.’ Sukuna rested his head on his knuckles.

Megumi studied him from the corner, lips tight. His hair was standing on end on the back of his neck but there was no hostility nor any threatening or friendly pheromones in the air. Upon closer inspection he decided the outlaw looks every bit like a stereotype, all sharp lines and a hard jaw. There’s a scar curved like a grim smile on his stomach that stood out amongst them all, it looked so deep he should’ve died by it. His face was marred on both cheeks, someone must have really hated him but loved symmetry to stab him so particularly. The recessed lines made him look somewhat as if permanently grinning. He was oddly not unpleasant to look at, he had lips that should have belonged to a kind man and big clear eyes like he should have been handsome.

Megumi looked as if he had reached some sort of inner conclusion and began to pull off his wet clothes and wring them in his white inner robes. Megumi laid his wet clothes out next to him, still not wanting to share proximity with the criminal. The heavy fabric of his furisode and long sleeves were too weighted and uncomfortable after his near death experience, propriety be damned. Even if he did have ulterior motives it wasn’t like a few layers gave him much protection when he could be so easily overpowered by the alpha’s pheromones alone. Hell, the night would probably pass faster if the alpha did something.

Megumi rolled the sealed gourd back to Sukuna across the floor. The hollow roll and sloshing of little liquid was the only sound apart from cracking embers.

Sukuna swiped the dried calabash from the floor and took a swig. ‘If you’re being bullied just kill whoever’s tormenting you, you don’t act like you want to die.’ There was nothing in his world but hedonism and indulging in beauty. Megumi was prettier than all the supposedly irresistible but definitely expensive omega oiran Sukuna had known and bedded. It was a shame that what was beautiful should suffer. Though that was often the case with those born too lovely. ‘You struggle like a cornered animal, even a little bitch like you can stab a few people.’

‘My name isn’t little bitch.’ Megumi snapped. He sat seiza naturally out of habit, back straight, knees perfectly tucked. Sukuna would have laughed if not for noticing the small, almost missable bump through the wet fabric sticking to his stomach; he was physically too skinny to naturally have a belly. A pregnant unbonded omega. That explained the melodrama.

 ‘What might it be, ojou-chan?’

 ‘...Megumi.’

Cute. Suited him. ‘Do you want to know this venerable one’s name?’

‘Suit yourself.’ Still a fucking bitch.

‘Sukuna.’ If Megumi hadn’t been locked behind the clan’s estate walls his whole life like a slave he would have recognised the name of the most wanted criminal of their era.

‘You’re a fugitive.’ The tattoos on his upper arms were much darker, still fresh.

 ‘So are you, blessing.’

Sukuna spoke with a twang, Megumi had noticed since the first time he spoke, the alpha evidently spoke a different dialect natively. He wasn’t from around here nor would he be staying.

 ‘Where are you going?’

‘It wouldn’t be very wise on my part to answer that question would it?’

‘It wasn’t wise to pull me out, or to let me go after telling me your name.’

‘Alright. I’m going far, is that good enough?’

 ‘Travel between territories is prohibited.’

 ‘I’m a criminal, sweetheart.’

‘Unless it is for religious pilgrimage or local sightseeing.’

Sukuna raised an eyebrow and jutted out his bottom lip at whatever the kid was getting at.

‘I need to leave the region, I was trained as an exorcist so I am afforded free travel under the pretense of work but I can’t leave without a husband or a keeper.’ An omega was prohibited from traveling alone, especially not a pregnant one.

‘Hah, you want to marry a murderer? Go home little omega.’

Megumi didn’t even flinch. ‘I can’t go home, I’m pregnant.’ He was thankful the alpha didn’t react to the fact.

‘I can’t bring a bitch and a bastard with me.’ Sukuna was amused if anything, this omega was out of his mind.

‘If I go home I will still die. Even if they let me carry the pup to term and allow it the family name they will make me die in childbirth. I will die here or there, if you bring me with you I will help you travel without suspicion, and you don’t regret letting me live. We pose as a normal family and you can walk out in plain daylight. After we are far enough, we leave our separate ways. You said yourself, I am indebted to you.’

‘You do see the tattoo penalties right?’ Sukuna made a circular gesture to his face and body. ‘Ojou-chan, you can see I’m not a very nice guy can’t you?’

‘I can help you cover the scars and tattoos, you don’t know much about makeup do you?’

‘I’m not bringing you with me.’

-

Sukuna huffed, the crazy little bitch was actually persistent. Persistent enough to make him go grave robbing… He also smelled very nice out of the sea. Distressingly good.

‘Swap clothes.’ Sukuna crossed his arms and nodded at the female beta he had fished out of a mass grave. They stood hidden on a rocky section of the shoreline.

As determined as Megumi was, he was still apprehensive about looting a dead girl’s clothes and putting them on.

‘If you’re that shy I won’t look.’ Sukuna snorted. He turned and heard fabric rustling and the heavy thud of a corpse being rolled. When Sukuna turned back Megumi wore the dead girl’s kimono, it wasn’t hideous, commoner indigo with a simple pattern, a little bit washed out but fine. He looked more natural in casual dress.

Sukuna tossed him a dagger. He knelt for long enough for his feet to numb, cutting the corpse’s hair to match his own but Megumi still wasn’t particularly confident.

‘It doesn’t even look like me.’

‘The height and skin match, it must’ve died of hunger rather than disease. You don’t know how lucky you are. Put it in the sea long enough and it’ll bloat so big the details won't matter.’

‘But the face isn’t right.’

Sukuna inhaled deeply irritatedly, he grabbed the dead girl’s ankle and stood square.

Megumi couldn’t even come to describe the sound it made, between a cut of meat being slammed onto a cutting block and a hard apple being smashed by a mallet. The criminal had whipped the entire human body with such force into the stone face that the skull cracked and face minced. ‘Now?’ A chunk of brain slid out and plopped onto the rock with a squelch when he held it out like a big fish.

Megumi turned and heaved, he hadn’t felt so sick since the first months of morning sickness. He waved for Sukuna to get rid of it as he hurled. The alpha hmph’d self-satisfied and tossed the body between the crag and the sea, the tide would wash it up and leave it to be found in the coming morning.

Chapter Text

The first stop after faking your own death and mutilating a corpse was of course a remote dango-ya

‘Why did you get green tea flavour? You picked the worst item on the menu.’

‘Everything else is too sweet.’ Megumi side-eyed him. Who knew wanted criminals had sweet-tooths?

‘Tsk- This won’t do, don’t you know dango ranking goes mitarashi then anko . If you like tea then kinako dango are best washed down with sencha . Eating is one of the few great pleasures in life, choose wisely.’

Megumi took a seat next to Sukuna on the bench outside, not too close, a plate of five dumpling skewers separated them. Their size difference must have appeared as if an oni were comically taking tea with an imp from a distance. Sukuna even kept a big beating stick at his side like the oni in stories.

‘Go buy them yourself next time then.’ Sukuna fixed the omega with a dead expression which went ignored. As if Ryoumen Sukuna could buy some fucking dumplings wearing his fucking own face. The alpha had to wear the clunky concealing hat of the roningasa to even step outside amongst people.

‘You should listen when an alpha tells you he wants dango with syrup.’ he warned darkly but picked up a skewer regardless. His hands and wrists were bandaged to hide the black rings.

‘Alphas tell me a lot of things.’ He said dismissively through a mouthful.

Sukuna reached for the last skewer, Megumi stabbed him with the wooden stick. ‘I bought 4, the extra one was on the house for me .’

‘It should be mine, I'm paying for everything.’

 ‘I’m eating for two.’

‘First you spend my hard earned coin, get my order wrong and now-’

Megumi swiped it and immediately shoved the first two dango in his mouth. They said that the bigger the animal the more resilient they were to starvation so that stood to say Sukuna should be fine for a whole winter without food.  ‘Oo dom’t even rike matcha…’ He mumbled. Plus, no money of Sukuna’s could possibly be clean. Some suffering was merely the karma of life.

Sukuna suddenly grabbed Megumi by the wrist. His pale hand disappeared under the straw hat and returned with one naked wooden skewer after Sukuna tore the last dumpling off the stick with his teeth. Megumi sighed through his nose and tossed the wooden skewer onto the empty plate.

‘What’s this stuff made of?’ Sukuna sniffed at the suspicious flesh coloured paste Megumi held on a leaf.

‘All natural ingredients.’ In a city alleyway the omega smeared the alpha’s scarred cheeks with the thick concoction roughly. Sukuna had to lean down close for the omega to reach, Megumi held his hand out at arms length, lips almost curling. They didn’t like to share proximity, not when one of them smelled too much like ambrosia and the other smelled like a man-eating calamity.

White rice powder bought from the dango-ya, a yellow flower he found on the road side, red chilli powder, green wasabi from a borrowed kitchen, grey ash from anywhere and cooking oil as the solvent. All to mix into Sukuna’s perfect skin match.

 ‘Why is it tingling?’

‘There was only chili powder for rouge.’ Better to not mention the wasabi. He didn’t think Sukuna was worth the harmless matcha powder, he said himself he didn’t like it- Plus, wasabi warded off disease, it was a multi-functional cosmetic.

Sukuna glowered, eyes wide and menacing.

‘Your eyes might water if you do that. But maybe it would be good for your skin, the stimulation could increase blood flow for a better complexion.’

The paste did work to adequate effect, filling in the discoloured recesses of his scars and covering the visible tattoos, perhaps to some patchy degree but well enough without close inspection. Sukuna examined his arms, a bareness he hadn’t seen in a long time. He might’ve praised the omega for being the first to make flesh coloured cosmetics if it didn’t make him smell like an entire restaurant.

He unwound his muffler and threw it over Megumi’s head, it wasn’t odd for beta women and omegas to wear a head covering. ‘Alright, let’s go-’ Sukuna turned.

‘Wait.’ Megumi suddenly drifted behind him as two distinguished looking men passed the alley opening, the crest on their haori were the same as the one Megumi had worn.

‘Not the nice kind of uncles?’ Sukuna hummed.

‘The one on the right would kick over the water bucket everytime I cleaned the floors.’ Megumi rolled his eyes and drew the scarf lower over his face. ‘I don’t know if they’re looking for me. The main family might not be convinced the body is mine.’

His cousins should have covered for him long enough before they began to search for him, it was likely they suggested he had gone to find his father. Though that was hardly believable it would misdirect anyone looking for him. The news of ‘Megumi's’ body found by a fisherman had spread already. The precious sole male omega of his generation in the prestigious Zenin Clan found runaway and dead in the water.

‘Stay here.’ Sukuna walked right into the street before Megumi could grab him.

‘Hey are you looking for an omega with green eyes?’ He immediately approached them and pointed at the gap between two buildings.

Megumi spun around before they could see his face but he considered dropping to his knees. What was he doing ?!

He scuttled to the very end of the passageway until he hit a wall. ‘What’re you doing?’ Sukuna’s shadow loomed over him.

‘What are you doing?!’ Megumi turned and hissed.

The alpha was holding two very unconscious men by the scruff. Megumi gaped.

‘Are they dead?’ Sukuna considered the question. ‘Nah.’ But they hardly appeared to be breathing. The alpha hunkered down and started rooting through the men’s robes, pulling off money pouches, charms and anything else worth taking.

After a moment Megumi leaned down and pulled the crested haori off of the smaller man. ‘Okay, let’s go-’

‘Let me teach you something about inconveniencing people first, brat.’ Sukuna began to pull the clothes off the victims and bundled them in a kimono he tied into a bag to carry over the shoulder. He then doused them in sake to make the alcohol smell stick, like any drunkard being beaten up and robbed.

Finally he grabbed one by the ankle and twisted the foot so hard the bones cracked. ‘AAGH-’ Sukuna knocked the man’s head so hard he went straight back to counting stars. When the pair woke up they couldn’t walk nor rejoin society without clothes.

‘Let’s go.’ Sukuna clapped his hands together heartily.

 ‘....’

-

The obidome on Megumi’s obi cord and his stolen haori bared his clan’s crest. Common people were not permitted family crests, to wear one signified importance.

A lone omega couldn’t travel by themself and Megumi was not known to have any acquaintances, no one from his house waited at the checkpoint. There was no chance for him to even leave Edo without a permit. The line was long and messy with travelling merchants, ox-carts and travellers. Megumi rearranged the scarf around his head tightly even if it reeked of smoke. Something about the tedious wait made adrenaline course his veins like wild horses, absolutely purposeless but untameable. Every raised voice made him paranoid that someone had recognised his face.

The inspectors at the seki recognised the Zenin crest at a glance, ‘Purpose of travel?’

Megumi held up a stolen wooden passport, quite tightly to himself, fingers covering some words. The inspector squinted at it but at the risk of upsettingly a Zenin didn’t request to closely examine it.

The Zenin clan were once Onmyoji but after Onmyodo fell out of influence with the rise of samurai society they adapted to survive the tide of the times. Instead focusing on lucrative investments and worldly affairs such as exorcism, predicting and controlling disease and offering guidance they rebranded to a similar yet more practical niche in society as exorcists. Their clan was popular and revered, one of the biggest in the area and supported by the public for being supposedly worldly, even travelling throughout the region to help the common people, the image of altruism and fairness.

Disgusting. For Megumi, one to have experienced the Zenin altruism and fairness so intimately, that bitterness was corrosive. It was a taste that one could never truly wash away, a trauma to carry and pollute for the rest of his life.

‘Pilgrimage. I leave to receive divination and pray for the current disease outbreak.’

The guard eyed the ronin next to him, an obscured his face was somewhat taboo. He wore the wanderer’s roningasa and carried the purebred omega’s luggage as well as a staff between the crook of his crossed arms. ‘And him?’

 ‘My bodyguard.’

Sukuna tilted his head back to offer the inspector a smirk under his hood that can only be categorised as unsettling.

‘The toll.’ Megumi placed the fare hard onto the table.

‘Right, right, just head on over to be searched-’

‘The auspicious hour is eluding us, luck is in the north-east, we must make haste.’ Megumi crossed his arms in such a way to bring attention to his crest. His family passed through the city regularly for work and he certainly had no intention to let anyone have a proper look at just who the escort was.

‘Your shadow is laden with yin energy.’ Megumi shoved an omamori (who’s original owner had his ankle auspiciously broken by Ryoumen Sukuna) to the inspector’s chest. The man was nonplussed and caught it with a stumble. The charm was weighted with a few coins but Megumi considered throwing some salt at him to get the point across. ‘... Right this way, Zenin-san.’ The man at a loss waved them through and gestured for his associates to let them through.

Megumi shuffled through mechanically, tense until even long past the checkpoint on the busy road crowded with people.

'You smell like you’re about to cry, Zenin-san.’ Sukuna tipped his hat to the side towards him.

Megumi scowled, ‘Don’t call me that. Fushiguro is my matriname.’ He inconspicuously slid the obidome across the cord to his left side where it could be covered by his sleeves and took off his haori to bundle it in his arms as if too warm. He had hid his crest to prevent being identified as a Zenin leaving the city.

Megumi walked on appearing indifferent, measured steps and placid eyes but the anxiety rolling off of him was so easy to scent. ‘Is your shadow laden with yin energy too?’

‘It’s the wasabi that you’re smelling.’

-

The official routes were off limits, an excess of checkpoints were stationed along main roads and to use the Zenin name so frivolously would only trail Megumi through the country like deep red footprints in snow, begging to be followed. The best bet was to take pilgrimage roads and unofficial routes to avoid checkpoints. It took much longer but it was the best way to travel undetected.

Their course, being as winding as they had drawn it, took far longer to reach another town and the pale omega had experienced the first time joys of sleeping under the stars: There weren't many. All there was in travelling were silence, dried sweet potato and Sukuna .

At the sight of the town in the near distance Megumi couldn’t help but peer back behind himself to see nothing but road in late spring’s early dusk. He really had made it out.

Sukuna wrapped his straw hat with fabric and tied it and the other bundle to the ends of his staff to appear merely like a carrying pole for their journey. Now they had to appear as if they were a regular pair of travellers.

‘Wait.’ Megumi paused. Sukuna turned with a cocked eyebrow at the omega shuffling closer with that same scrunched up expression. Awkwardly and absolutely gracelessly Megumi reached with a loose fist to rub the scent gland on his wrist against Sukuna’s neck.

‘What are you doing?’ The alpha shifted away.

‘.... You don’t smell like me, mates scent each other don’t they?’ He snapped offishly, though if his pinkened ears were anything to go by the omega was flustered.

Sukuna grumbled and rolled his eyes, the last person to have scented him had to be his own mother and even that may have been a stretch. ‘Fine, just do it roughly- Don’t touch my neck.’ Megumi huffed and gave Sukuna’s kimono a few swipes, he himself was probably smothered in Sukuna’s smell of death

There were a few standalone homes on the outskirts of the town, red warding talismans tacked onto the doors. The small outbreak must have travelled from the large settlements by word or by death.

‘Oba-san,’ Megumi spotted an aged woman still outside next to her home. ‘Has the hososhin passed through here?’ He called from the path.

She considered the young man before shaking her head gravely, ‘Not yet, but soon I presume. The old man that had lived just shy of the wood had just passed, he was weak, no hope for him.’

‘You haven’t put up a ward on your door.’ Megumi had noticed.

‘Hmph- don’t need it, get going children, it’s getting dark.’ She retreated through her door.

Low and behold, their first stop was the lone dwelling not far from the main town. A modest house, of someone who had very little and lived alone. The odour was a little troubling but what can you do but be thankful there wasn’t still a body, Megumi threw some salt around the premises and clapped his hands together in a short prayer. The hut was empty of possessions, they should be safe for a short time.

Sukuna’s sleep schedule was erratic, sometimes he didn’t at all. At rest he slept in the daytime and disappeared after sunset. It left Megumi to go out in the morning to buy travel supplies, someone as conspicuous and outlawed as his confidant couldn’t just walk around after all.

Despite having never done something as common as buying groceries before, Megumi did not believe it could possibly be difficult. Megumi tied a tenugui he made from his clansmen’s stolen clothing behind his head covering his unruly hair. At home he was merely a well-dressed slave, cleaning for the main family and eating with the servants; he had tied back his sleeves with a tasuki over a thousand times. And  even Megumi had homemaking classes and the like being an omega that should have been eventually married off. How hard could it be to be a wife? Or so he thought.

He determinedly left at dawn with an old basket he found and Sukuna’s stolen money, almost excited to do something he never had the chance to do.

‘Don’t get ripped off, Fushiguro- san .’ Sukuna waved from where Megumi had assumed he was asleep facing the wall, head resting on his palm as usual. The black rings of his tattoos showed when his sleeves slipped down, Megumi reminded himself to buy more wasabi.

The omega resolutely left the house and ignored him.

When Fushiguro-san found himself staring at the vegetables of the morning market for far too long he realised something crucial he had failed to take into account. Megumi hadn’t the slightest clue how to cook, therefore he had no idea what or how much to buy. All of his classes as a child were in teaching him arts appropriate to his station such as playing the koto and flower arrangement once married to an aristocrat- Which meant he would never have had to do housework. To say he felt out of place next to actual working class homemakers haggling like it was a battlefield was an understatement.

‘Are you alright, ojo-san?’ The farmer woman next to her wares was young, and quite evidently heavily pregnant like her robes wouldn’t contain her. For whatever reason the male omega touched his own stomach and wondered if he would get that big.

‘I…’ Have never bought a vegetable in my life.

‘Ehh? A new mother?’ A female omega, stout and sun-kissed, leaned over and picked up a daikon into her basket. The way she scrutinised bok choy as if it held secrets inspired some fear in Megumi. It was easy for an omega to sniff out their own kind and even easier for one having already had their own children to scent one that was expecting.

Another woman reached across him for a handful of spring onion. ‘Are you a traveller? I haven’t heard of any new male omegas in town.’ Considering the fact that male omegas and female alphas were the least numerous phenotypes they stood out and often entered favourable marriages, sometimes above their station and left their villages.

‘Yes… We’re travelling to my alpha’s hometown.’ Though Megumi wanted to wretch at the thought of calling Sukuna his alpha.

‘Well, whatever you need, we’ve got it, I have the freshest vegetables!’ The pregnant vendor laughed. ‘What’re you thinking about? You must have been standing there since sunrise!’

 '....'

‘Eh? Are you nervous?’ The stout omega turned suddenly, fixing him with a wide expression. ‘You do look quite young, new wife nee ? Don’t know what to cook for your alpha?’

 ‘... Yes…’

The market oba-chan often did like to chatter on and on about their superior cooking techniques and immediately grabbed Megumi to steer him around the best produce, vegetable-choosing tactics and what was easy and tasty. By the time the working day had started Megumi was able to wave goodbye to the local wives with a basket of appropriate produce, necessities and generous small extras he had washed in the river.

When Megumi returned to the deadman’s home they were squatting in Sukuna was nowhere to be found. It wasn’t as if Megumi didn’t welcome some time alone and rolled up his sleeves to start cooking. The only thing in his wheelhouse was boiling water but luckily for him that was the staple of cooking. Megumi tossed it all chopped up into an old pot, millet, some vegetables, an entire ginger and bits of fish to make pottage.

By the time Sukuna had returned from circling the area dinner was ready. It felt oddly suspicious and domestic in the worst way seeing the most prickly un-omega omega ever kneeling next to the hearth, his black bangs peeking out under a tenugui and sleeves tied back serving him. Even sitting down opposite him across the hearth felt too disturbingly normal.

Sukuna squinted at the bowl in his hand, smelled and looked fine at first glance. Megumi had already begun eating while Sukuna stared, silently as always, no reaction. Upon catching Sukuna’s eye contact he stared back expectantly, then the older man tasted it, then put it down.

‘You have never cooked in your life have you?’

 ‘It’s edible isn’t it?’

Sukuna stirred the pot until he found the offending whole ginger root. ‘Do you not like ginger either?’ Megumi had a great craving for it. A criminal couldn’t believe he had to say, ‘Good things sometimes need moderation.’ Megumi considered it, ‘I’ll add half next time.’

Sukuna rubbed his face and sighed through his nose. He could give the kid credit for peeling and cutting the vegetables into relatively even size but what did they even matter anymore when all there was was ginger, a dash of ginger and a handful of ginger. He forgot salt, even when the little exorcist threw the stuff all over the place usually.

 ‘There's fish bones and scales.’

‘Just pick it out then.’ Megumi rolled his eyes.

 ‘You’re a shit wife.’

‘And my ‘husband’ is a criminal, we can’t all be choosy.’

Sukuna glowered, ‘I think I’m getting the shorter end of a stick with an omega that’s already been bred who can’t do anything, or even cook.’

A bowl and chopsticks were slammed down hard on the floor. ‘Fine.’ Megumi huffed and shuffled over. ‘What-’ The omega had already climbed onto his lap, the scent of sweet dew and mint invading his senses making Sukuna swallow suddenly. Their sudden proximity instinctively brought a large hand around Megumi’s waist, still slight before he would start to fill up.

‘I know you still look at me.’ Pregnant or not. ‘It makes my skin crawl.’ Whenever he walked ahead of the alpha the hair stood on the back of his neck like prey being watched by a predator, he’d much prefer if he was outright lecherous than unsettlingly silent and unpredictable. The alpha sneered, ‘Then what will you do Megumi-chan?’ With a sharp tug the bandana fell loose and a veil of ink fell over those pale green eyes.

Sukuna pulled his sash open and the omega parted his white kimono. Up close the alpha’s chest was expansive, Megumi rested a hand against it to steady himself, a low rumble vibrated under his palm when Sukuna growled. The thick corded muscle of Sukuna’s breast denoted a punch with savage strength but all that came to Megumi’s head were the buxom mothers he had met earlier in the day... The heat and pheromones rolling off the alpha’s skin was dizzying but he didn’t stand on ceremony- Megumi’s dinner was still on the fire and he wanted to get it over with before it burned.

Megumi slid down between the alpha’s legs, the omega was stand-offish whenever he was in a foul mood, which he often was when around Sukuna. Even palming him through his trousers Megumi glared directly in his eyes. He wasn’t anything like other omegas, it made Sukuna grin and want to make him cry

There was still a pause when Megumi pulled Sukuna out of his trousers. What the criminal was packing was no less than a weapon, his cock was probably twice thicker than Megumi’s wrist and just as veiny. He didn’t have to look up at Sukuna’s expression which was no doubt insufferable and started stroking, somewhat curious just how long it was at full mast. Megumi put his palm against the grisly smile carved into Sukuna’s stomach to nudge him to lean back, which he so graciously obliged.

By the way the little pedigree bitch knew how to knead the glands of an alpha’s knot while he stripped his cock with his other hand he definitely knew what he was doing. ‘Shit- The fuck do they teach in your clan?’ Megumi’s mouth was preoccupied, closing around the tapered head and humming a dismissive reply. Sukuna threaded his fingers through his dark hair, as wild as it was, it was also quite silky. The sounds were wet as the omega suckled and licked until his shaft fully swelled and the glans peeked out, the slide of Megumi’s fist became wet with saliva. Upon trying to take more Megumi realised it was much too thick for his small mouth, if he tried to shove then he might end up biting, thought it was tempting. Megumi bobbed on the tip and elicited a low groan from the older man.

It must have really been a while, Sukuna hadn’t so much as spoken to another living being since escaping from the last prison until Megumi. His knot was swelling almost embarrassingly fast under those slim little fingers and he sighed in pleasure. Sukuna unwound the hand in Megumi’s hair and covered the pale hand trying to wrap around his knot with it, he squeezed around the base as if he were buried inside a tight cavity and threw his head back when Megumi sped up. He pressed and licked in just the right way until Sukuna was desperate for release.

‘Megumi-’ The omega glared up at him teary-eyed and that was just about all the warning he got before Sukuna came into his mouth. Very amicably Megumi stroked him through and swallowed but a knotting alpha even out of rut came excessively, the omega was on his knees for a while. Thankfully Sukuna didn’t taste as potent as he smelled, Megumi thought offhandedly.

Megumi straightened and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, Sukuna was scrutinising him as if he were a bok choy. He had tried to stand but a thick arm wrapped around his waist and pulled him close, Megumi put his outstretched arms between him and the alpha. ‘Don't just-’

‘I can smell that you want it.’ Sukuna manhandled Megumi before he could protest. He slid his hand through the part of Megumi’s kimono, up the milky inside of a smooth thigh and found a dripping wetness in which he immediately plunged his middle finger down to the last knuckle.

‘Aa-haaahhh!’ Megumi fell forward and fisted a handful of the kimono still hanging over Sukuna’s shoulders. Huh , he was pretty tight. Megumi clenched hard and tried to close his legs like he wasn’t used to being penetrated. Truthfully Megumi had only had his first heat a little over 2 months ago, he had just presented and got pregnant. It was his first time, a complete blur in heat fever, by the time he was lucid he woke up in pain and his veil no longer intact.

One of his knees was caught in a vice grip and spread for the alpha to ravage. It was unfair, even the alpha’s hands were as big and brutal as the rest of him, Megumi felt every wide knuckle and callus. Every thrust made the omega wetter and pushed out a small gasp, 'Ah-ah-ah, Sukuna, wait-' The palm against his clit kept rubbing him just the right way and on shoving two thick rough fingers into his little cunt and hooking them Megumi cried out and came. 'Nn-aagh!' His soft walls clenched and pulsed around Sukuna’s fingers even when he slumped against him boneless.

Chapter Text

Sukuna had done his best to save Megumi’s first attempt of cooking despite the exorcist’s complaints against using his 'evil-warding' salt, they ate in relative peace and tidied their belongings in the early evening to leave before dawn. It was relatively tranquil once all the pent up frustrations were dissolved through the amazing peacemaking techniques of sex. Until:

‘You left something in the corner.’

 ‘I did not.’

Their luggage was wrapped and tied to Sukuna’s staff, neatly bound in the corner, traces of their passing erased from the hut, the days were beginning to elongate for Summer such it was still bright enough past dusk.

 ‘You did, go check.’

 ‘There’s nothing there.’

‘You can’t see it? Look for yourself, it's right there.’

Megumi glared and shuffled towards the back wall on his hands and knees from where he was sitting just to prove a point, he felt cranky that he wasn’t being left in peace to take a pregnancy nap before they had to leave again. There was absolutely nothing in the corner, he faced the wall dully but suddenly shuddered as his instincts told him to look back.

Sukuna’s shadow engulfed him completely and Megumi knew he had been utterly naive to have fallen for that. Sukuna grabbed a fistful of his obi to keep him in place and flicked up the hem of his robes over his hips revealing everything from his pale ass and supple thighs rounding out with pregnancy to the cute pink folds of his pussy.

‘Fuck- Let go!’ Megumi tried to push his kimono down and shove Sukuna’s hand from his belt.

‘I don’t think I will actually.’ The image was too tantalising, between two pale legs was a pink little pussy, quivering from the omega unconsciously tensing, he smelled absolutely delectable . ‘How about one for the road?’

A wet tongue pressed and licked into Megumi’s wet core, ‘Aah !’ He kicked back to have his ankle caught in a merciless grip. The offending appendage insistently licked inside and that hot mouth closed around his clit sucking and mouthing as if sharing a passionate kiss with the delicate lips between Megumi’s legs. He wanted to curl up or bear down, the omega unwittingly lowered onto his elbows and bowed his head at the sensation and shame, never having been exposed or toyed with like this, face hidden and reduced to just a bitch presenting his hole. ‘Sukuna!’ Megumi cursed and shoved. When Sukuna thrust inside his tongue Megumi clenched hard, he covered his mouth and clawed the floorboards, unable or unwilling to pull away. It was absolutely obscene how wet it sounded, Sukuna ate him out until he trembled, why did he have to slurp? Megumi wanted to bury himself.

Saliva and slick dripped from his core, Sukuna plunged his tongue in from deep and fast to shallow and slow in between teasing licks. Megumi cut off a whine escaping his lips, he pulsed around nothing and craving dearly something to clench around like the thick fingers earlier. The wetness was cold without hot breath against his exposed cunt, the complete loss made him cringe. Sukuna pulled back and Megumi fidgeted, trying to press his thigh together tightly and find friction, he had felt so close...

A spread hand came down to smack and palm a squishy cheek. ‘That’s it, tighten yourself up for me, blessing.’ He heard tht stupid snicker from above. Tighten up for... Megumi’s half lidded expression shot wide open, Sukuna was most certainly going to give him something to clench around. If it didn’t break him. Megumi tried to look behind himself, making out that Sukuna was already stroking himself and lining up with his entrance. ‘I’m not ready to take that.’ Megumi felt somewhat hysteric, trying to push away the hand now gripping his hip, tightly under where his kimono was still wrapped around.

‘You’re more than ready, I could shove my cock in dry and you’d take it.’ The wet blunt head pressed against his pussy lips, Megumi’s knuckles went white, he dug his nails deep into Sukuna’s wrist. ‘I can’t-‘ Megumi yelped around the fat tip pushing in with no reprieve, the slide was smooth as wet as he was but the burn couldn’t be extinguished. ‘ Ahaahhh…’ The omega hid his face in the crook of his elbow, he squeezed around the thick intrusion parting his squishy walls and stretching him deep.

‘Don’t you know why, little omega?’ Sukuna’s breath ghosted the shell of Megumi’s ear, a blanket of fire and wrought iron draped over him but the hint of sandalwood felt like ceremony. ‘You’re made to take it,’ He accented with a sharp thrust making Megumi gasp. ‘Fucked open raw or knotted a thousand times till you’re breaking, your little cunt will take it and tighten right back up again because an omega just. Wants. To. Be. Bred.’ Megumi squirmed, panting and trembling, the cock inside him spearing him open and pressing so hard and deep . The overwhelming pressure against his cervix made his head and arms numb, jolting Megumi’s entire body and making his eyes roll back. 'Even with a pup inside you, you still want more. What would it think? My mother is a whore?'

Good, good, good, more! Megumi’s head drooped, forehead resting on the wooden floor, eyes unseeing, ears unhearing and jaw slack; he had never felt so good in his life before being filled and stretched beyond his limits. Sukuna reared back, taking what felt like Megumi’s guts with him before shoving back in hard enough for the omega’s vision to spot. ‘Ah-hah-hnhh !’ Megumi felt as if his brain had gone watery, his attention all stolen by the cock rocking him backwards and forwards on his knees, plugging him up and pounding the way he never knew he liked. ‘Like that don’t you, little bitch?’ Sukuna tilted his head and leered down at him with an absolutely nasty expression.

Past the initial shock Megumi began to realise the moans in the air were being punched out his own mouth, his cheeks and sleeve were wet with drool and tears, he spitefully shoved his fist in his mouth and bit down to rob the satisfaction from the criminal. Sukuna rolled his eyes and collared the base of Megimi’s neck with his fingers, with a yank the omega had to place his palms against the floor where he was hauled onto all fours. He made a noise of indignation briefly before Sukuna pulled him back onto his cock and fucked him using his entire body for leverage. 'Ah-ah, too deep!' Megumi thought his eyes must have been rolling back, unsure what came over him suddenly, all he was sure of was that this had to be the best sex of his life even if he was hardly conscious the first time.

When the knot began to inflate Sukuna flipped Megumi onto his back, his lower half between Sukuna’s knees, held up by hands around his hips, trying to crawl away was impossible being bounced erratically, legs akimbo. Megumi’s entire face and neck flushed and wet trails streaking down his cheeks, still he glared at the dark grin on the alpha’s face. Megumi scrunched his eyes and twisted his head away, at least on his knees Sukuna couldn’t see his face, but just to be fiendish the alpha wanted to see his expression when he was knotted.

Sukuna pulled roughly at his obi, Megumi tried to push his hands away, really just for pride even if he knew Sukuna was far stronger, unwilling to be exposed any further. The sash was torn off and thrown asunder and the collars of his kimono yanked apart bearing everything. Megumi huffed and turned to look at the wall, not immature enough to engage in an opening and closing battle with Sukuna.

Rough hands ran up his body, unused to the touch Megumi shuddered and dared a sly glance at the older man. He flushed again and looked away from the intense look on the imposing alpha dissecting his body, Sukuna licked his lips and grinned because he liked it. Megumi decided either Sukuna must’ve had low standards or just happened to like the look of pregnancy.

What Sukuna saw was milky unblemished skin, a pretty pair of collar bones, blush down to his shoulders and a pair of absolutely adorable cherry nipples fitting for a highborn omega. Below the rounded belly Megumi’s lower abdomen distended slightly with every thrust inspiring the alpha to impertinently thumb over where his cock kissed cervix and pressed. ‘Not there, just not there!’ Megumi caught his wrist again, now covered in crescent nail marks and shook his head frantically, even pushing up to his elbows with much effort. Upon the look of genuine terror on the omega’s face Sukuna realised he must have felt it threatened the unborn pup in his womb. He let go with no intention to bring the omega to hysterics, Megumi fell back exhausted in relief.

The obvious genitalia aside, a young male omega usually didn’t visibly look much different from his beta counterpart aside from slightly wider hips, the testosterone still allowed them to build muscle easier and grow taller than their female counterparts. Only upon adulthood and especially after carrying child male omegas filled up to better suit bear children and eventually breastfeed.

Sukuna cupped a growing breast and squeezed the rosy little nipple between his thumb, Megumi arched and cried out in pain. It was upsettingly sensitive and Sukuna knew. ‘Hah, still so small, will the pup even have enough to feed?’ Megumi almost snapped back, it was still early and he was still growing into the pregnancy. Then he wondered why he was even embarrassed by Sukuna’s words, did he even want to get bigger or not?

When the knot swelled too big to easily pull out it caught on Megumi’s little abused entrance, jaggedly tearing in and out, the omega thrashed and sobbed, his whole body jolted every time it ripped out of him. ‘Stop, stop, I can’t- I can’t- Don’t pull it out anymore, I can’t!’ Sukuna stopped thrusting suddenly as the widest part of his knot snagged on Megumi’s opening, the omega wailed. ‘Don’t pull out? Then what do you want, blessing?’

Megumi cried out in frustration, ‘Your knot- Fuck- Just give it to me, knot me!’ Tears of pain and humiliation ran down his face, knowing Sukuna just wanted to hear one thing. ‘Ask nicely like a good little omega.’ Alpha’s didn’t like to be given orders, especially not by an omega in bed. It hurt too much, Sukuna was big and his knot was bigger, like it was going to tear him in half, the hormone addled hindbrain ordered him to babble out whatever the alpha wanted to hear to protect himself and the pup. ‘Pleasepleaseplease alpha I need your knot, fill me up, would you please- let me have it?’ Megumi screamed inside. And well, outside too. ‘Good boy.’ Sukuna was almost impressed with how fast the omega learned.

With a final shove and a pop, swollen walls latched onto the inflated base, he cried out at finally being knotted. Megumi threw his head back in a silent scream, nails raking the arms around his waist, back arching, and came hard around the immense strain until his vision whitened and fingers tingled. His back hit the floor with a thump, and realised he was damp all over with sweat. But after the most intense orgasm of his life and the happy endorphins triggered by knotting Megumi was limp, absolutely unconcerned by anything but the feeling of his walls being painted with cum. He felt so full, stretched like he was ruined, Megumi was sure he couldn’t move and it hurt as much as it brought him comfort to take such a monstrous knot. Sukuna leaned over, planting a hand next to Megumi’s head, grinding hard as if he could be deeper and grunted as he came inside.

On any other occasion being so close and underneath the alpha would make Megumi’s lip curl and snarl, but soft and docile, eyes half lidded and sleepy he just watched. He didn’t find Sukuna as fearsome as he should’ve, even caged in by his entire hulking form, beyond the threatening pheromones was the scent of charcoal in a stove and sandalwood on an altar as if he should have been a king. It was too intimate, Megumi wanted to go to sleep.

‘We’re not done yet.’ Sukuna sneered at Megumi’s drooping lids until the omega pouted and tried to glare back through glassy eyes. ‘You can’t even move…’ Megumi mumbled and turned away again trying to find peace, they would be locked together for some time before Sukuna could pull out. ‘I don’t have to.’ The pad of a large thumb came to rest against his clit. Megumi blinked open wide.

After Sukuna rubbed another two orgasms out of the omega he had promptly passed out until Sukuna tried to shake him awake before the rooster crowed. Megumi woke up with a start, sucking in a deep breath with his nose and looked around to see an outline of Sukuna’s face and that awful fuzzy blue of morning before sunrise. Megumi looked around, he was dressed again, even clean and wiped of sweat and all other bodily fluids. He went to sleep again. ‘-Oi!’

The next time Megumi woke it was bright out. And he was outside. Staring at the ground moving, hanging upside down, being jostled at every step. He thought he was going to be sick. Megumi batted Sukuna’s back until the alpha noticed and put him down, the omega stumbled until he fell onto a tree to lean against. He breathed in deeply until he was sure he wouldn’t throw up last night’s ginger and took in his surroundings again.

They were on a mountain trail, hardly a visible path deep into the trees, the town they stayed in far into the distance. Megumi’s legs were soft and his pussy hurt. ‘That was a one time privilege, get up when I call you next time or I’ll leave without you.’ Sukuna threw his geta in front of Megumi again. ‘You need a pair of straw sandals, we’ll be taking a lot of roads like this from here out.’

‘I like my fucking shoes…’ Megumi stepped into his wooden sandals and began shuffling away. Sukuna raised an eyebrow at the omega unimpressed, swaying slightly from side to side trying to put distance between them.

-

In truth, after making it out of Edo Megumi became wary of Sukuna. What was there that he could do to hold an escaped convict to his word? Sukuna could have left at any time if he didn’t think their deal was worth the hassle of an entire pregnant omega and Megumi would be at a loss without his bodyguard and fake husband.

But luckily for him Sukuna was the more simple minded sort and sex (which could be readily exchanged) was something he could use to entice the alpha along. It wasn’t as though Megumi did it at his own cost or clenched his teeth every time either, he couldn’t get any more pregnant and for some reason it made him incessantly horny, all the extra blood circulating in his pelvis made him wet and ready at all times.

His days really weren’t even so miserable with Sukuna despite how he acted outwardly, neither wanting to waste time on hallow conversation, the man was straightforward and easy unlike the absolutely snake-like people he had known and didn’t treat him with derision for being an omega or impregnated out of wedlock like those of his own class had. He either did not care or didn’t think much of it being as lawless as he was. Sometimes Sukuna would drag them off the road and fuck him against a tree, it made their travel time longer for Megumi to rest before he could walk again and especially longer if Sukuna decided to knot him.

Megumi bore into Sukuna’s crimson eyes. ‘.... Don’t fucking stare at me like that.’ Sukuna put his hand between their faces. ‘You’re making this weird.’ He leaned against a tree, cool shadows hiding them from the invasive afternoon sun, Megumi perched on his lap, joined together again under their kimonos. After the first few times sex didn’t hurt or drain Megumi the same way anymore, sitting on a knot was comforting, though it did make the stretch of time locked together more awkward.

Megumi crossed his arms. ‘You always stop at this time of day to fuck me.’ Sukuna raised an eyebrow. ‘What if I like routine?’ A smile played at the corner of Megumi’s lips. ‘You don’t even like eating the same thing twice in a row.’

‘I think you’re picking whenever I usually get tired.’ The little exorcist tilted his head as if in thought. As nice as his rare smile was, he was actually trying to tease Sukuna. The alpha reached into his prim collar and squeezed a sensitive nipple. ‘ AGH!’

‘Don’t forget who I am, do not think I am a good man, little bitch.’ Sukuna glowered menacingly. Megumi clutched his tit and glared, promising mentally to make the next meal all wasabi and ginger.

The temperature had mildened by the time they returned to the path, walking in silence again. Megumi was actually the quiet type, very calculating and strong-willed, he wasn’t naturally so difficult or snappish as Sukuna had come to know. He was agreeable company, independent and not particularly whiny, having the omega around was like having a supply of walking incense, so fresh and milky smelling, making the whole fugitive thing more pleasant than usual aside from being constantly hungry. Trying to stay unbonded and elusive meant an alpha like him couldn't knot anyone frivolously, having a companion like Megumi as hormonal and pregnant as he was meant that Sukuna was free to do so as much as he pleased, so he took advantage of their agreement.

Sukuna side-eyed him, somehow every time he looked Megumi got slightly rounder. Most omega’s his situation would have been taken advantage of by someone of no low status, often their own clansmen or family acquaintances. Hard to say if the pup would come out with ten fingers, ten toes, maybe four eyes and two mouths. Sukuna refrained from bringing up the subject, they said you should keep company in good spirits on long journeys and even a skinny little omega would sick you over a comment on their pups.

Megumi didn’t talk about his background like most people trying to vanish, he didn’t do smalltalk at all either but it wasn’t hard to guess. What was obvious without being said was that an omega from the upper classes had far less freedom than the working class, expectations were far more stringent in manner and chastity leaving him little choice but to run.

Sukuna would probably be the forerunner in attesting to the finicky bitch’s appeal, even if he spoke curtly and lowered his voice there was a measured grace remnant of etiquette classes in everything he did which Megumi couldn’t hide, and Sukuna did like a pretty and feisty omega. It wasn’t hard to empathise with anyone who wanted to fuck Megumi but he had a vicious pride, if he ever did find out who the bastard’s sire was Sukuna was going to rip the prick a new one and kill them slowly for being the first to ruin Fushiguro Megumi.

Chapter Text

Sukuna noticed early into Summer that he should have been due for rut. It was usually troublesome and expensive to buy an omega (or a few) for a couple days in a heat house but even as the sun hung high and farmers began to plant rice his mood was stable and felt wholly regular. For whatever reason he turned to look back at Megumi who had begun to smell milky and powdery like wagashi, soon starting into his second trimester. It was a sweet aroma but not cloying, his natural scent of mint and dew kept it fresh and mild, not often were omegas both expecting and unbonded but one that was had to smell better than one in heat. The obvious signs of pregnancy had begun to show though the bump could still be hidden behind an obi.

‘What’re you looking at?’ Megumi winced in utter distaste.

Sukuna turned back to the road, his mood now ruined. He walked a little faster just to be particular.

An alpha didn’t need to be bonded for its body to know it had an omega, unlike how all claimed omegas were bitten. An omega’s pheromones protected it, and as being bred didn’t necessarily mean being bonded, Megumi's scent stayed his own fresh scent, especially calming as he carried the pup along. After mating and scenting the same available omega multiple times, Sukuna’s alpha was convinced its mate had conceived and the pregnancy scent averted his rut so long as the omega continued to smell of milk. It was likely to have been a trait developed by pack living in evolution, it was undoubtedly beneficial to avoid mating-cycles if possible living nomadically-- To be honest they were best avoided if not planning to have offspring, but it rubbed Sukuna some sort of way that his feral little travel companion was affecting him so deeply on a biological level.

Not often lost in thought rather than meditating Sukuna had come to notice the lack of footsteps behind him. He turned to see Megumi a distance away staring blankly at him, keeping up a measured pace.

‘What’s wrong little omega, too tired to keep up? Is the pup too heavy? Do you need to be carried?’ Megumi ignored him as per usual.

The next town was another half day's walk, they camped near the edge of its agricultural land. Megumi's back hit a tree, he slowly slid down to the ground, sat leaning against it and kicked off his sandals. His lower abdomen and back hurt, his feet hurt, his head hurt, everything hurt but Megumi couldn't let it slow them down. Sukuna set down their luggage haphazardly in the small forest clearing and stopped to consider something, Megumi watched his broad back disappear into the trees.

Sukuna could move silently, without so much as a rustle through the grass, he circled the near vicinity for anything of note. It was pheasant season, the birds lived on the edge of woodlands near farmland where they fed off human scraps and despite their ability to fly they nested and lived on the ground. Those undeserving often had the most auspicious luck. Sukuna spotted a hen in its nest through the trees, it was easy to grab it whilst it protected its clutch and even easier to bring a limp bird and a dozen eggs back. Megumi lifted his head from where he tried to stoke a pile of twigs and cinders to Sukuna dangling an animal by the neck.

He had watched the alpha gut and clean the pheasant, intently to observe how it was done, though Sukuna thought he looked as if he were ready to bite into it raw. Sukuna held out half a skewered bird to Megumi, roasted simply with some evil-warding salt over the small camp fire and witnessed the little thing savage a bird with rabid intensity not unlike the stray dogs Sukuna often saw in ghettos. It was most definitely the pregnancy, Megumi probably craved meat for the pup and his body was in the stage of wanting to put on cushioning weight making him disregard the etiquette hammered into him as a child. After a moment of side-eyeing Sukuna held a drumstick towards the omega covered in grease, at arms length in case he were to bite. '.... What....?'

'I lost my appetite after watching you eat.'

Megumi took the offered leg with a look of indignation.

When the sun dipped behind the mountains Sukuna held an egg before the fire to check if the eggs were still good to sell. Megumi hugged his knees before the fire, he looked from the eggs to Sukuna. ‘One way to find out.’ Sukuna cracked the egg into his mouth and swallowed it after a moment. ‘They’re fine.’ Megumi gaped. ‘Do you want one?’ Sukuna threw the shell behind himself. ‘No.’ Megumi stood and walked away.

They had sold and traded the clothing and other possessions unmarked with a family mon that they stole from the two Zenin’s in Edo in another town they had passed for travel essentials. Megumi rolled out a straw sleeping mat beside the fire and settled on it with a kimono as a blanket. The mat was only really good for one person, Sukuna didn’t sleep regularly anyway and considered himself far too superior to require such flimsy cushioning, though Megumi just thought he was stupid and ignored him.

Sukuna leaned against a tree, staff between his folded arms as usual appearing quite comfortable. At first Megumi found it unsettling, the way that Sukuna did not sleep, trying to fall asleep knowing a dangerous outlaw was going to sit there the whole time, perhaps watching you was somewhat challenging, but as easily exhausted as he was these days, the fatigue weighed over the anxiety and Megumi grew used to bad company.

He didn’t feel like sleeping yet on a full stomach and relatively comfortable and warm sleeping arrangement, unlike usual when he would try to sleep to escape the discomfort. ‘Are you not tired?’ Megumi broke the silence, perhaps out of boredom. Sukuna did not move though looked in his direction. ‘Worried about my health, blessing?’

 ‘You don’t sleep, it’s creepy.’

 ‘I don’t need to.’

Megumi rolled over to his other side, regretting asking. Sukuna hmph- d once with a dry laugh, ‘You’ve seen me sleep, I only rest when I stop moving.’ He slept during the day while Megumi bought supplies when they stopped at towns, though Sukuna did close his eyes for short periods before dawn until woken by natural light. ‘Why do you ask, blessing?’

‘Do you want my company?’ Sukuna moved to loom over Megumi.

 ‘You just want sex.’

 ‘Yup.’

He rolled his eyes as Sukuna flicked away his makeshift blanket and took apart his waist sashes, the omega tried to hide his chest for fear of having his sensitive nipples tweaked again. It made Sukuna grin, ‘I’ll be gentle.’ He teased. After some coaxing Megumi was tired of holding his own tiny breasts and relented.

‘Your little tits are getting bigger.’

‘…..’ Should I thank you?? Megumi’s eyebrows furrowed. The omega was fun to play with and oddly easy, his behaviour seemed strange for his station as if his defences had been already stripped away. ‘You should put up more of a fight.’ Megumi frowned, do you want me to let you or not???

Before Megumi could decide to be difficult again Sukuna wrapped the omega’s legs around his waist and sidled close together. Rough hands came to fondle and explore his pale torso, fingers and thumbs tracing the slight curves and cupping the new softness of his chest, pressing just the right places and brushing over his nipples with just the right pressure.

It was new, to be touched in such a way, to be felt in his own shape, not to someone else’s whim. Megumi gasped when Sukuna lowered his head and licked, a hot mouth closed around a nipple and sucked. Down at his baser instincts Megumi’s omega preened at the attention and made him arch his chest to present himself more. It was dangerous to his indifference, the way Sukuna made him feel desired.

The air turned sweet as it began to drip between the omega's legs, two fingers traced down his pink folds without warning and spread his entrance. Sukuna continued to mouth at his chest, Megumi covered his mouth with his own slim fingers. The digits at his pussy spread his slick slowly, circling the small nub and wetting his lips, Megumi couldn't help but try close his legs and shiver when Sukuna massaged his clit. The omega couldn't think straight with the fingers teasing inside, slowly, deeper, entering him knuckle by knuckle until they disappeared, buried inside him and stroked his soft walls in coy curls. If Sukuna was so good at this all along why had he been jabbing his fingers into him like a stupid caveman until now? When lips closed around Megumi's clit, he stopped thinking about it, the roughness of a tongue swirling that bundle of nerves and two thick fingers deep inside to clench around brought him to orgasm. Megumi arched and squeezed, his eyelids fluttered and he came quietly stifling his moans with his fingers, thoroughly wetting Sukuna's hand.

'Good?' Sukuna smirked and made a show of licking the slick from his middle finger. It was sweet, a good substitute for wine. Megumi found him insufferable but spread his thighs all the same while Sukuna loosened his own clothing.

The alpha slicked himself with the wetness on his hand and slid into the tight heat in one long stroke. Megumi's eyebrows furrowed and eyes flitted closed, his head tipped to the side and his walls pulsed around the girth, he had just cum and didn't expect the rawness of being penetrated by Sukuna's stupid monster cock immediately after. The alpha thrust inside slow and measured, Megumi felt the entire length and every drag, every thrust deliberate in taking the omega apart. Sukuna poured in more and more force, not so fast but harsh and effective.

‘Ah-ah-ah…’ Megumi made pitiful little sounds, whimpering, being fucked through the aftershocks of an orgasm into overstimulation. He cried and trembled, clenching and unclenching his fingers trying to get used to the feeling and take it with some dignity but it was too much. Sukuna had never fucked him like this, usually it was a brisk exchange with little grace or ceremony, he came whenever Sukuna did and maybe again if the alpha felt like toying with him. Megumi felt raw, overwhelmed again by the cock ripping in and out of him so mercilessly after cumming once.

The omega was too cute when he cried. Sukuna couldn’t tell if it was him or his alpha that liked Megumi’s breathy noises of pain and desperation more. He was so pretty begging the first time they fucked it was difficult to resist bullying him. A stray thought drifted through his thoughts, wouldn't it be nice to keep this omega?

-

It always took some time to poke Megumi out of bed in the morning, he looked especially bullied and pitiful when his legs were soft and cum ran down his thighs. They made it to the next town before noon and entered after smothering Sukuna in flesh-coloured wasabi paste.

The alpha spotted a colourful array at the market and drifted away while Megumi busied himself around town buying this and that, speaking to the locals and selling pheasant eggs.

Megumi counted the few coins in his hands, travelling meant earning nothing and spending everything, with the little they had left they couldn't afford to stay at an inn. The omega sighed and hoped Sukuna had some extra money on him, otherwise he had little choice but to tidy up and play exorcist for a few coins performing neat tricks. He sat outside a tea shop dejectedly counting the same coins with a small bundle of supplies with a dango skewer hanging out of his mouth waiting for Sukuna to show up from who knows where.

‘You’re getting big.’ Sukuna's shadow suddenly loomed over him.

The omega didn't even spare him a glance. ‘Astute observation.’ Megumi sipped on a cup of tea he had bought with his limited funds.

Sukuna rolled his eyes. ‘It’s becoming obvious.’

‘What is it?’ Megumi held his hand out to receive the small package Sukuna held out. He unwrapped it gingerly to a modest collar, a simple yet elegant navy and white braided design with a decorative copper catch suited for a male omega. ‘I’m not wearing that.’ He thrust the item back to the alpha.

‘Yes you are.’ Sukuna grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him to face away from him, before Megumi could even turn around it slipped around his neck and clasped together at his nape. He scowled at the older man before turning around to sulk. Young omegas weren’t expected to wear collars until after being marked, to put one on after marriage signified adulthood in the upper classes. It was a modest attire to hide the claiming bite but as designs and construction became more and more intricate the trend spread through the classes right down to commoners. Even young omegas and betas began to wear colourful and cute chokers for fashion and to protect the mating glands, though a mature adult’s design was easily distinguished by a wider band and mute colours.

Even if Sukuna were right, loathsome to admit, if anyone were to scent the pregnancy and look closely at the back of his neck to see an absence of a scar or collar it would be suspicious. Megumi had always dreaded the day he had to put the collar on, changing his title from a pedigree whelp to kept omega . It made his eyelashes drop lower over his eyes, feeling the weight around his neck he would no doubt grow used to soon. But the feeling of lingering touch ghosted his skin where Sukuna had grazed, making Megumi unwittingly sly a look behind himself. The alpha seemed pleased at the band he chose and Megumi’s ears pinkened realising he had let Sukuna collar him as if they really were married.

Megumi paused suddenly. 'How much money did you spend on this?'

-

They left during the night as they always do, Megumi waited at the outskirts of the town for Sukuna who had said to meet him there. He was cranky and tired, his legs also hurt.

 ‘Where did you get that?’

‘Cucumbers are in season.’ Sukuna shrugged next to a pile of stolen cucumbers. Megumi levelled him with a glare, as he was obviously referring to the ox-cart Sukuna was currently driving.

‘Hurry up and get on before anyone wakes up.’

It took a pause of consideration but begrudgingly Megumi trudged along, throwing their few possessions onboard and climbed onto the cart, silently saying a prayer of blessing and fortune for the town they had begun to roll away from.

Megumi sat on his knees, jostling every so often there was a bump on the road, feeling very dull and moving at a pace not much better than walking. To see Sukuna driving an ox-cart was beyond unnatural.

‘I like cows.’ He said, Megumi grunted.

It had no roof or even railings but it was more than enough. Megumi laid out his sleeping mat and promptly went to sleep using their luggage as a pillow and a kimono as a blanket.

-

It was hot in the daytime, Sukuna glared at the road ahead under his straw hat and Megumi hid under a kimono chewing on cucumbers, actually glad that Sukuna had stolen them and a jar of cold water when under a shelterless road in the sun. They leaned back to back on the empty cart, Megumi's back couldn't take sitting for too long and it made him ill to lie for too long.

Sukuna could tell Megumi wanted to nest, rather the omega knew it himself or not, it was especially hard for expecting omegas to travel because they craved a safe place to birth and nurse their pups. By the way Megumi held bundles of clothing to himself and sat with his knees tucked to his chest in corners when he was alone it was obvious, but given the circumstances he had very little to work with.

'We should be able to reach Osaka before a new moon, from there we can buy boat tickets from the black market to Shikoku.' Sukuna broke the silence. Megumi hummed, he had wandered far enough from where his clan held influence, all that was left was to find somewhere to settle down, it was considerably more dangerous for Sukuna as a fugitive than he was at this stage. Once they landed on Shikoku they would part ways.

 'Do you do this often?'

 'Which part?'

 'Running.'

'I would have to have stayed somewhere before to consider this running. I'm not bound to the urge to find some cozy little home to settle into, I move place to place, I fuck, I eat, I play, I kill, if I'm caught I escape and move to the next place.' Sukuna wasn't the average man, he didn't seek domesticity nor care for being chased or being seen as a criminal. With no respect nor responsibilities he was afforded no rights and the rules of justice did not apply to him because he simply did not partake in the game, therefore he was an outlaw, an outlier that needed to be exterminated.

It wasn't in his nature to be curious, but the question still escaped Sukuna's lips. 'What are your plans, blessing?' He chalked it up as boredom, even he enjoyed gossip at times.

Megumi watched the road stretching out longer and longer behind them. He didn't like to talk much of himself though when your confidant was a criminal it was hard to be self conscious. He had never try to kill them both out of hatred, even he didn't have it in him as an omega, Megumi didn't want it to live the same life. He told Sukuna he intended to become either a miko or travelling exorcist as it was all he knew. He didn't think he could give it a good life, Megumi didn't need to say it for it to be known, he thought about leaving the child somewhere like a temple he can visit in glances after its birth.

Tragic, Sukuna thought. He leaned his chin on his palm and chewed on the end of piece of straw. He could tell Megumi didn't hate the pup inside him, he just had little choice in this world.

 ‘Do you think I’m cruel?’

‘You’re asking this to a murderer, sweetheart.’

The corner of Megumi’s lip quirked in that rare slight smile, the way he meant it was unclear whether he was referring to Sukuna or himself, ‘I believe in karma.’

Chapter Text

Sukuna stood in shallow waters, undeniably a refreshing break. The cool stream washing away the pains of long days spent walking with his trousers rolled up above his knees. It was almost too perfect, the fish in the waters even visible in such pristine water, to not take a rest stop would have been too much a waste.

The scenery was beautiful, clear creeks, tame tributaries and a small waterfall nestled between a shallow rockpool.

The staff Sukuna carried had a single cord wrapped and tied around the body at the three quarter mark, Megumi had assumed Sukuna was versed in staff forms and martial arts.  The surface was hot as Megumi rested on a large rock and soaked his swollen feet in the cool waters. He watched Sukuna take either side of the wooden body, divided by the brown leather cord and pull, drawing a long thin blade from the unassuming shell which sheathed the hidden weapon all along. In a sudden movement that made the omega flinch, Sukuna changed his grip and speared a fish gliding by with hardly a ripple through the water surface. Megumi raised his eyebrows, actually impressed.

The day was too hot for travelling, they took the day to rest and let their stolen ox take a break too. Megumi wanted to bathe under the waterfall and wash his inner robes. Under the hot sun and beside a fire his clothes would dry quickly. At home they had their own water supply, Megumi was used to regularly bathing, on the road he had nothing. Feeling awfully grimy and sweaty in the early summer heat made him more snappish than usual. He even missed the times he was manhandled and dunked into a tub by the servants to be scrubbed with grains and bathed in rice water before meeting with the Gojo heir. All the residues of outdoor sex did not help to make Megumi feel appealing either.

Megumi bundled a strip of cloth and the kimono he often used as a blanket in his arms as a temporary bathrobe. He climbed off the rock he was resting on to patter away while Sukuna was busy. ‘Keep the collar on.’ Sukuna said simply without turning.

‘……..’ Megumi looked behind his shoulder and studied Sukuna as though the alpha was dim-witted. As if one measly strip of braided cords would reserve any of his modesty or protect his oh so chaste and pure body. What flattering validation to be thought of so highly by Ryoumen Sukuna, the alpha who had been sparing no efforts to defile him in every way. Megumi rolled his eyes and left for the waterfall.

Megumi soaked his inner robe into the water and laid a rock over them to stop them from drifting before he tiptoed into the pool. A little shell toe was followed by a pale calf, and Megumi dipped in carefully with the cloth tied around his wrist. The water was cool but welcome in the glistening heat. Megumi waded into the hip deep water, he crouched on his knees to float and take the pressure from his waist and back. It was a relief to face the downpour and let the clear water run through his hair and wash away the journey on his face, to finally feel clean and a little more human again. The omega used the small cloth to scrub himself pink, and said a prayer to Suijin , a small waterfall provided Megumi with insurmountable relief.

He considered pressing Sukuna to bathe while the weather was hot and the water was cool until he heard a rustle and rolled his eyes, figuring Sukuna had come unprompted for waterfall sex. Megumi turned from the spray and searched for the alpha, upon failing to find him he turned his head this way and that. Sukuna should have only come from one side lest he felt like crossing the river needlessly, but Megumi was sure he heard noise from the other.

Megumi had left the collar on, mostly contributed to forgetting to take it off rather than for Sukuna’s warning. He touched his choker and squeezed the washcloth in his hand. The pregnancy did send his instincts into overdrive, Megumi began to wade back to his dry clothes.

‘Oya? What do we have here?’

  Shit

Sukuna fanned himself and the fire he was roasting fish on with a piece of driftwood bark he found bone dried on the bank. The food was ready, and Megumi had yet to return. It wasn't as if they often had stimulating conversation during mealtimes past 'salty or not salty enough' but the alpha took a bite out of a skewered fish and sat chewing by himself feeling oddly dim. Why did omegas take so long to wash?

Sukuna brushed himself off as he stood. He was explicitly not worried about the omega brat, if he didn’t come back already the food was going to go to waste and the little bitch would whine about it. He was going to torment the little thing a bit and maybe take a bath himself- with Megumi. Doing very clean things. Sukuna put his hands in his sleeves and ambled towards the waterfall.

Nothing. Sukuna lifted a large rock. Still nothing.

Megumi’s usual attire was strewn on a rock, his white smallclothes soaked in the water yet to be washed. He picked up Megumi’s navy kimono and sniffed, it smelled only of milk and succulent mint. A paper shikigami fluttered from the pile and stuck to Sukuna’s arm. The alpha tossed his sleeve to shake it off, the doll continued to cling to him. When he tried to brush it off, it stuck to his hands and slid down his elbow. Sukuna sighed out through his nose and continued to search into the trees. More paper shikigami stuck to him from who knows where, Sukuna continued to follow the peculiar trail until paper butterflies swarmed him.

He heard before he saw, Sukuna quietened his steps and approached carefully to peek through the trees. They had tied the ox to a tree in a grass clearing to graze out of the sun and to hide the cart, a crowd circled the car and a distinct white pile.

Then his hackles raised and his jaw clenched hard enough to click. With an urgency that made him feel ill Sukuna needed Megumi by his side now .

 ‘Call for your mate, ojou-chan-’

‘No get him onto the cart, let’s get it out of here.’

‘What would we do with him? He’s already bonded.’

‘He’s not getting up either way, we’ll lure out his alpha and rob them both.’

‘Ojou, we’re getting awfully impatient, you don’t want us to get angry do you?’

Megumi was that heap on the ground, eyes lowered, shoulders and thighs exposed and bare, he grasped the oversized kimono to stay closed with a white knuckle grip, the other hand wrought iron around a tree root to anchor himself in place. He had hidden his front, they found him from the view of his back and Megumi clothed himself quickly without the aggressors seeing his baby bump. His hair was wet and slicked back, for once tamed, stray wet locks framed his face delicately. He wore only his collar and the ill fitting kimono. This wasn’t the time to get hard but Sukuna almost stumbled, his alpha swelled at the omega heeding his order- Megumi kept the collar on. He presented as claimed and no one touched a claimed omega.

Mine, mine, mine . He was near salivating at such a lewd sight, just as much as he felt enraged, Megumi simply looked so… breedable… His long dewy eyelashes and subtle pout just commanded one to shove a cock into him.

Megumi twisted his face away as a worthless pest crouched in front of him, blocking Sukuna’s view.

  Mine .

‘Ojou-’ An insolent paw gripped Megumi’s milky arm.

It wasn’t as though Megumi were afraid to get Sukuna involved that he didn’t call for help, he was primarily too embarrassed to call for ‘his alpha’ in front of so many strangers ogling his wet, exposed body. If he were not pregnant he would have put up a fight and run, Megumi had always been a fast sprinter, but vulnerable as he was with a pup inside him Megumi’s instincts commanded him to protect himself and minimise harm by acting weak. ‘ Sukuna!’ Megumi screamed and curled away from the vile touch. ‘Sukuna, alpha-!’

Ask and you shall receive as they say. Before Megumi finished the man on him was caught in the jugular and thrown bodily into the rest of the group with the effect of pelting a boulder full force at a paper wall. ‘EHH?!!’ Sukuna was a pretty girl’s name afterall. Perhaps he and Megumi matched in that sense.

Sukuna leered down at Megumi’s vulnerable form, the omega peered up at him, eyes big and glassy, bottom lip jutted out as if it would quiver- Later . The omega was unharmed and Sukuna was a little preoccupied with bloodlust to play with him. Megumi recovered in the span of a blink and threw the kimono up on his shoulders and righted himself like the sly thing he was. Men were dumb, alphas were dumber.

Megumi had no intention to continue to let his bare cunt to kiss the ground but before his legs could even straighten his knees buckled and he gave out like a marionette’s strings having been snapped.

Fear and the scent of death. It rushed into the body and flooded the brain like liquid terror. Megumi’s eyes shut but didn’t bother to smother his nose with fabric, his body was already intimately familiar with Sukuna’s alpha. Like venom he had built resistance being fed bit by bit of lingering potent pheromones, though still his sweat poured and head lowered in self-preserving submission at fresh threats.

‘Hora hora , even a bunch of illiterate country rats can see when an omega has already been bitched can’t you?’

Megumi whimpered, he had never heard Sukuna snarl anything more than playful or a warning.

Even grown men froze in the presence of a king, Sukuna biologically asserted his superiority so easily. Even Megumi forgot how dangerous he was when he played along with the omega’s whims. Sukuna’s fingers twitched, itching to rend limb from limb, muscle from bone. He was grinning, in no such manner of sound mind, and delighted his (his?) omega called for him.

There were seven brigands, one alpha amongst the betas and all cowering in shock. One man clutching his crushed throat was unable to breath. The leader of the pack was decently sized for an alpha, slightly more well-dressed than his companions, he recovered first even if by pride alone. ‘Who do you think you are acting that tough, we’re robbing you!’ The alpha amongst them pointed his dagger at Sukuna.

They drew small knives from their yukatas and spread to surround Sukuna, in an age where weapons were contraband thieves made do with kitchen knives. ‘Hora…’ The whelps came at him, much too slow, so easily side stepped even in a mess of limbs and waved flashes of blades. ‘I thought I was being robbed here, ganbare ganbare .’ Sukuna broke their bones, pulled limbs from sockets and loosened back molars with a simple backhand until the thieves lay in a heap. The ox fought its reins in the background, backing up its legs trying to pull away.

He was unarmed, but that was easily remedied. The remaining alpha stood petrified in the same position for Sukuna to grab the wrist holding him at knifepoint. The bandit snapped out of it with a screech as his weapon was rended from him, his fingers and wrist broken in the process.

Megumi wrapped himself around Sukuna’s sword arm. Even if he despised anyone who preyed on the weak, he didn’t believe petty thieves deserved death.  ‘They’re just some farmers’ sons, you've scared them straight, it’s enough.’  It was over too quickly, Megumi could barely stumble barefoot into Sukuna before the group lay at his feet like beaten dogs. Megumi had to be careful in his words, careful to not order the prime alpha. His cunt still throbbed up to his kidneys when he remembered well of the times he had stepped (stomped) on Sukuna’s toes- He didn’t think those before Sukuna now qualified for such same punishment. He tried to lower Sukuna’s arm holding a blade before a young man lost his life over a stupid mistake. ‘Sukuna, let’s go back, there’s still so much of the day left…’

‘Please, we’re sorry, our village’s crops have been failing, they said we were cursed to have a failed harvest and no one knows what to do- We were just trying to get by!’ The young alpha pleaded on his knees to someone who could really care less.

Sukuna’s eyes flitted towards Megumi and the weak fingers and skinny wrists just about tickling him trying to lax his arm. Megumi’s paper dolls still clung to him, the little exorcist himself just the same, fluttering and fastened around him. ‘Alpha…’ Megumi tried his hardest even if it made him want to die, his ears pink as he peered up through his wet lashes looking particularly demure. ‘There’s still time to go back and take a bath together before the sun falls from its peak. I’ll…’ He couldn’t do this in public, so many puppy-dog eyes watered his way to be saved. ‘I’ll… Wash your back for you…’

 ‘..........’

‘Hmph.’ Sukuna snorted and threw the knife somewhere behind himself, perhaps it landed in flesh. He did hold pride in being able to control his alpha, if Megumi were to be unhappy with him and refuse to put out the rest of his journey would be unhappy. He cared little, rather maggots lived or died, though perhaps his alpha also knew the omega did not wish to see blood spilled.

‘Scram.’ The scuttle of retreating dogs, whining with their tails between their legs left with swears and apologies until they were left alone with their ox. Megumi peeled off each talisman doll stuck to Sukuna quietly, hands shaking slightly from the fear still in his system though he knew it was over now. His hair still dripped and he looked particularly dainty in oversized clothing, perhaps a look to revisit, Sukuna thought.

‘Let’s go, blessing. I’m going to fuck you under the waterfall and you can wash my back afterwards.’ Sukuna lifted Megumi to sit on his arm. His geta still lay haphazardly in a heap at the waterfall. Megumi rolled his eyes and let himself be carried, the adrenaline washed away and the stress left him drained. His scent was nearly scrubbed away and the water dampened his pheromones. Sukuna could scent strangers on the omega. The arms around Megumi tightened and Sukuna buried his face between plush thighs and inhaled deeply. Megumi tried to push his head away, ‘Don’t-!’

 -

Megumi kicked his legs idly, feet dancing in air as he rode on the back of the stolen cart the next day. With delicate fingers he picked the white feathered flesh off a skewered fish and nibbled carefully the crispy skin. Overall, Megumi felt refreshed from their brief stop, clean, well-fed and well-rested, all unpleasant events compartmentalised into a growing pile for him to sort out later when he could afford the time. Even Sukuna smelled more personable after a wash, less of internal iron and musky smoke, more of southern seasalt and temple incense.

Though the renewed awkward silence was strange. Sukuna had fucked him at the waterfall until he was bruised, then Sukuna did carry him back to camp, and then fed him some fish he had grilled prior -And from then on continued to pensively sit in silence as if pondering some secrets or the universe. Before Sukuna would wonder off regularly and paid no heed to the boy waddling away knowing they would reconvene when it was time to move again, but now every time Megumi drifted past an invisible boundary he felt the alpha’s attention shift even if the man himself never moved as if a strange invisible rope was tied between Sukuna’s eyes and his back. The omega was honestly getting a little antsy wondering if the criminal was beginning to find him more hassle than he was worth and hoped they would reach their next stop faster to prove his usefulness.

They rolled towards their destination, a rice farming village, the very same one the pack of country hoodlums came from. Simply put: They were broke. Upon catching the mention of curse Megumi had made up his mind to investigate- and to fill up their pockets with some voluntary donations lest they would have no fares or chances in Osaka.

Megumi tidied his dress, his obi layered formally, his crested obidome displayed at the front and threw on the Zenin crested haori.

He was fixing his neckline, ‘What are you doing?’ Megumi ducked away as Sukuna tried to reach into his clothes again still wary of having his nipples abused. ‘Just checking something…’ There wasn’t much room for Megumi to run as he retreated to the edge of the wooden cart. Sukuna was twisted back, stretching his arm and slipping his hand into the omega's inner white collar. Megumi shot him an impressed look, lip curled but did little else as rough fingers brushed along the back of his braided choker and Sukuna pulled away. The alpha went back to glaring at the road immediately after dragging his inner wrist across Megumi’s scent gland. ‘....’ The omega said nothing to the bizarre scenting.

The appearance of a pretty, graceful highborn omega and his ronin bodyguard in their little village was very exciting, inviting all the aunties out to stare and whisper their arrival even before they reached the small center.

‘- A Zenin? Oh my…’ The village head rubbed his sweaty palms against his kimono inconspicuously. An exceptionally beautiful male omega was stood neatly before him, a fine white kimono bearing a family crest worn over his head as a sunshade in the manner of aristocratic wives, he peaked out under the large hood with such a modest, cold expression but those eyelashes belonged to an oiran. Megumi himself never thought much about his appearance but his fairness, lithe limbs, light coloured eyes did most the convincing for him. And alphas were most easily fooled by pretty omegas. The Zenin travel pass verified his identity for those who could read.

The old alpha was the proud type, Megumi could tell by the way he did not outwardly question a Zenin exorcist personally rushing to their small rural settlement to aid. Sukuna was easily forgotten as a servant when the omega was so lovely.

‘Our dogs have been getting attacked at night,’ The village head was pushing middle-aged, he walked well and strolled with his hands folded behind a straight back, perhaps once an arrogant young alpha. He was known as Jun-san, Megumi also parsed him as the wife-fearing kind of man.

‘I had set up patrols instead to find out who- or what’s doing this but nothing has been coming from it.’ Jun-san pointed at the sorry rows of rice in their paddies, torn and sparse like the hair on his crown. ‘It’s not just the rice, it’s almost all our crops but if the rice doesn’t grow- Well, what would we even do if we don’t have taxes to pay?’

In Shinto-ism rice seedlings were said to be a dwelling of kami which in turn must be worshipped, an omen like this was no good, ‘Could I see the rice closely?’ Jun-san made a jerking motion with his head and one of the farmers stepped into the paddy, returning with a handful of sprouts to hand Megumi. Sukuna glowered in the background, arms crossed, bored and irritable of the noise as Megumi was fawned over.

‘Too close.’ A wooden staff cut between Megumi and the crowd. The villagers laughed awkwardly and nodded, taking steps back from the omega. Megumi resisted growling at Sukuna breathing down his neck but understood his intention as preventing anyone from being close enough to properly scent him. ‘I apologise for my servant, he has been in service to my family for three decades, he is sometimes overbearing.’ I haven’t even lived three fucking decades! Sukuna sucked in a loud inhale and the squeaking of his back molars was audible as he grit his teeth.

‘What kind of injuries have your dogs sustained?’ Megumi returned the limp leaves back to the farmer, the tears in the rice were too large and jagged to be an insect and a wandering herbivore would simply have been found already. ‘Bloody ones, bites and full body injuries.’ It was much too odd to be human intervention either.

‘This has been ongoing for two moons? I must ask if there have been more deaths this past year than births in this village?’ Megumi turned with some urgency. A beta woman, perhaps a marketplace vendor inhaled sharply and nodded insistently.  Though really anyone could count the amount of pups and elderly walking around and hazard a guess. With some uninspiring acting Megumi looked pensive, really his pretty face carried the performance.

‘What is terrorising your village is neither pest nor human.’ The cacophony of gasps erupting from the villagers had Sukuna rolling his eyes from under his straw hat.

‘You mean to say it’s a curse, Zenin-san?’ Jun-san urged as if he hoped it were. ‘The signs do point towards the supernatural, though if you could share anything out of the ordinary occurring the past year it would be great insight.’ Someone piped up, ‘We had snow this winter.’ It did help when a group was inherently superstitious. ‘The first in nearly a decade.’ The village leader agreed.

‘Then it is a bad sign, for the gods to bring snow and then the grains to be destroyed…’ Megumi looked to the side, more muttering and concern in the background. ‘I feel great resentments here, I will investigate tonight. Continue to plant rice only at the edges of the fields today, do not fill the center. Please send all your people back into the village after dark and leave a torch lit in every vegetable garden, there will be no need to continue your nightwatch.’ He looked past the crowd at a suspiciously familiar group of young men cowering from a distance.

Megumi entertained the villagers all day, giving divinations and advice to the long line of people lining up to see him. They brought snacks, fruit and garden harvests as tokens of appreciation, country folk had little money to spare though a few small coins slipped their way by the desperate. They were even given a room for lodging, their ox was parked somewhere to graze, it was humble yet generous for a village and they were fed a neat meal by Jun-san's wife. Megumi liked her, a very talkative omega with a far more severe personality than her mate.

‘You don’t actually know what’s going on here.’ Sukuna lay on his back popping bitesize kumquats into his mouth. Megumi was sitting side saddle on a floor cushion massaging his ankles, trying to press away the swelling. If his stomach got bigger Sukuna wondered if he could even reach by then. ‘We’ll find out.’ Megumi replied simply. ‘We .’ Sukuna stopped his fruit sampling to fix Megumi with an unimpressed look.

‘You’ve already eaten my kibi-dango , you should at least pull your own weight Sukuna- san .’ Megumi’s gaze drifted and Sukuna followed it to a plate of millet dumplings he did indeed eat all of. ‘What do I look like? A dog?’ He was referencing the tale of Momotaro of course but the silent side eye Megumi gave him made a vein pop on his forehead.

Jun-san accompanied them to the fields at night, though it seemed he was just really excited to see an exorcist at work more than anything else. Sukuna spoke nothing around strangers, Megumi could tell he was irked by the company. There was only the moon in a relatively cloudless sky and not a torch in sight. It was humid in this region, even a summer sky had few fluffy clouds. Megumi had put up strings across the paddies in the day and connected his paper dolls to the ends, he would know in what field there was a disturbance.

‘Jun-san, could you walk along the main path like you were on patrol?’ Megumi suggested. ‘I believe it would be best to pretend tonight is the same as any other, the curse seems to have enough intelligence to avoid being seen.’ The alpha was eager to oblige and set off with a wooden stick, probably the kind his wife used for laundry.

‘And now?’ Sukuna leaned against a tree in the foliage. ‘We wait.’ Megumi ran his fingertips along the long threads attached to a sapling. ‘Though if you stuck to the forest perimeter and looked for it the night might speed along. You’re better at being undetected than villagers after all.’ Though flattery got no one anywhere, Sukuna did roll his eyes and disappeared to look. Out of boredom, he said to himself.

Megumi waited, and waited, leaning against a skinny tree strumming his fingers along the strings until Jun-san even returned from surveying the whole stretch of land. Megumi straightened and inhaled quietly, deeply. If he didn’t catch whatever it was he would be quite embarrassed to say the least.

A fragile rustle. One of his paper dolls began to dance without a guiding breeze. Megumi snapped back to attention and pinched the string, Jun-san’s eyes were practically sparkling with intrigue. Megumi looked into the trees, Sukuna was just about visible in the distance to only his point of view, arms crossed and waiting. Megumi held up three fingers for Sukuna to see and the alpha disappeared again. ‘Jun-san, please stay here and keep a track of my paper ningyo, don’t come out until we identify what we are dealing with.’

Megumi strode along the path careful to keep an even pace before reaching the third field. Conveniently a cloud was blocking part of the moon making seeing difficult only in the immediate area. Megumi walked along the edge of the section hearing and seeing nothing. The omega stopped before cutting across the halfway line to the trees, Megumi reached into his sleeve before crouching down.

Fwoom! For a flash it appeared as if the fields were surrounded by will-o’-wisps as Megumi’s shikigami burned away and lit the entire stretch from the village to the road for just long enough. A lump writhed, startled by the sudden brightness a distance across from Megumi in the oily black of the water. Megumi almost jumped into the mud, the curse knew it was spotted and shot off for the forest. Megumi slipped a paper talisman out from his sleeve again but didn’t throw it, instead Megumi fixed the thin paper body to his lips and whistled a piercing note.

A savage slash that rippled across the whole field ripped from the trees stopping everything in its tracks, even the rice plants seemed to quiver until settling still again.

Megumi hurried to Sukuna’s side to see.  ‘Why did you whistle for me like a fucking dog?’ Sukuna sheathed his blade again with the glint of the moonlight bouncing off onto the curse in the water.  Even Jun-san rushed over from the other side to see what the commotion was. The cloud drifted past finally. They all scrutinised what they saw.

 ‘.....’

 ‘.....’

 ‘.....’

 ‘.....’

The shape of a hobbled looking old man, one swollen visible eye, covered in mud, tearing rice apart with its teeth. Apparently. Some green strands hung off its black teeth. It wasn’t easy to tell its shape when it was so caked in mud but the crown looked inhuman.

‘Jogo.’ Was the only sound it uttered.

 ‘Jogo?’ Jun-san blinked and repeated.

‘Jo... go….’ Megumi stared at it wide-eyed and incredulous.

Sukuna didn’t repeat it but maybe it was a near thing. They all stared at each other until a breeze actually rustled by.

‘Disgusting.’ Megumi’s lip curled, looking down at the thing in disdain.

‘Let’s exterminate it.’ Sukuna agreed, raising his staff.

‘Jogo?!’ The pathetic thing could be exorcised by Megumi alone. He flung out a talisman, it ignited immediately on contact.
