Handsome and the Beast

Chapter Text

You're probably aware of a story like this: a spoiled and selfish prince is cursed by some evil fairy to become a beast, so the beast has to find love with someone who would accept him for who he is. The moral of the story is that it's what's on the inside that counts.

Well, my story was similar to this (minus the whole magic and curses thing) because I ended up being not the best person and even had a love before all of...this: Beau Villeneuve, my ex-fiancee. He was very intelligent and the most caring person I've ever met.

However, it all changed when his father, Marcus, was found dead and Giselle, an arrogant and stuck up girl who always had a crush on Beau, accused me of doing it and had her friends (well, basically almost the entire town who viewed her as a hero) sent to Briarcliff Manor, the asylum far outside of town.

And that's how I got here...

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Viviane Alistair. I'm twenty one years old, I have blue eyes and red hair, and I came from a rich family that was basically left forgotten after my mother died and my father left, possibly dying later on as well. They called me "The Beast of Framingham" just for something that I didn't do, but I had a feeling that Giselle was more of a monster or beast than I was in comparison. I still couldn't believe that this happened to me...

I looked up at the creepy manor with a sigh before a nun approached me. She looked a little too calm for my tastes, so I felt a little uncomfortable just by looking at her.

"Hello there, dear, I'm Sister Mary Eunice. I believe you are our new patient, correct?" she asked me.

Oddly enough, she reminded me of my old nanny, Mrs. Lansbury, which made me feel slightly better about that.

"Um...yes, I am, my name is Viviane Alistair. Look, I'm innocent, sister." I said before glaring at the officer who gave me a shove. "Ow!"

"That's what they all say, Miss Alistair, but we can fix that. Lead her right this way, gentleman." Sister Mary Eunice said as she gestured them inside.

They pushed me in again, making me nearly crash into the nun in front of me. I looked around at my fellow inmates and noticed how bored they looked as the sounds of a French cover of Dominique played from a record player nearby. This was it? This was going to be my punishment probably forever when I didn't even kill Mr. Villeneuve? The officers let me go in almost the middle of everything as Sister Eunice gave me a smile and turned to leave. I groaned while thinking about what could come next...

"Hi!" a voice suddenly said, which made me jump.

I looked down to see a short woman with massive teeth grinning right at me.

"Uh, hi?" I asked her.

"Do you want to play with me?"

She was a little too happy to me, but I knew that having friends would be better than having enemies since I knew I had the entire town of Framingham against me with the possible exception of Beau. I shrugged in response.

"Sure, I guess."

"Let's play hide and seek!" the woman said before counting.

I looked around for a spot to hide, ducking behind a couch that was against the wall.

"I'm not even a killer..." I said under my breath.

However, someone must've heard me because when I looked up, I saw a man with short brown hair, dark brown eyes, and a small scar on his lip staring back at me. I remembered seeing him on the news before all hell broke loose: it was Kit Walker, the supposed Bloody Face killer. He didn't look like the killer type though...

"Are you alright, ma'am?" he asked me.

He reminded me a little too much of Beau, which startled me. The only exceptions were that Beau's eyes were lighter and his hair was longer than Kit's.

"Uh, hi there. I'm--" I began to say.

"Found you! Found you!" the woman said with a laugh.

I gave her a small smile and stood up, saying, "You found me. You won at this round, so we should play again."

Good god, I sounded so awkward at that moment. I guess making one friend and being face to face with an accused killer was one way to start my time here...

Her smile was bigger than it was earlier, so I found myself laughing a bit.

"I take you're the new patient, correct?" a strict voice asked in a Southern accent.

I looked and saw another nun standing there with Sister Mary Eunice, who waved at me.

"Yes, I am. I'm Vivian Alistair." I said while holding out my hand for her to shake.

The older nun scoffed at my attempt to be friendly and said, "I am Sister Jude and I know exactly who you are the Beast of Framingham, the woman who killed her former fiancee's father. I also happen to be aware of your family's old reputation."

I clenched my fists to try and keep myself under control. I hated when people brought up my family's past no matter how wrong their actions were.

"Oooh, she's a little fiery! I like that!" a brunette man said in the background, laughing.

I shook my head in disapproval at him. Sister Mary Eunice looked at me when she noticed my reaction.

"That would be Spivey. He's...interesting. The one you just met is Pepper, that's Shelley in the back, and those two on the couch are Grace and Kit." she said, pointing each patient out.

"You're a criminal, beast, and this asylum is your prison." Sister Jude said. "Every patient you have encountered so far has committed crimes on the same level as you have. Consider yourself another criminally insane inmate."

With that, she walked off.

"She seems pleasant." I said with a hint of sarcasm in my voice.

"We only wish to rehabilitate you and the others." Sister Mary Eunice said as if she didn't detect it.

I wasn't sure how to respond to this, so I just watched her smile when she heard an older man with glasses calling her over.

"Sister, may we speak for a moment?" the man asked.

"Of course, Dr. Arden." she said before running towards him.

Finally...I had a chance to be alone for a moment or at least play another game of hide and seek with Pepper.

My first night at Briarcliff was restless with the sounds of screams coming from the metal doors at the end of the hallway. It made it almost impossible to sleep with both that and the other inmates mumbling to themselves or yelling too. My cell surely wasn't as nice as my old castle like mansion, but I had to work with what I had. I also found myself worrying about what could possibly be happening to Beau back in Framingham. What was Giselle doing to him? Did he move on from me? My thoughts were broken when I heard the cell door on my left open followed by a thump of someone hitting the ground.

The door was then slammed followed by the sounds of footsteps disappearing down the hall. Once they were gone, I moved closer to the figure lying face down on the cell floor and reached for his hand, shaking it gently to get his attention.

"Hey...hey...are you alright?" I asked quietly.

There wasn't a response until I decided to squeeze his hand.

"Sir? Are you okay?" I asked him again.

Suddenly, he woke up and we locked eyes for a moment, making me realize it was Kit. I awkwardly let go of his hand while clearing my throat.

"It's you! You were that new patient who was hiding behind the couch." he said, his dark brown eyes studying me. "Are you doing better, ma'am?"

I wasn't sure how to respond to that, especially when it came to his eyes looking almost black with the dark lighting. I also got a glimpse of what looked like a scar on his neck.

"I could ask the same thing about you. What exactly happened with your neck?"

He then put his hand to the wound while moving his hand up and down on it.

"I don't know...the last thing I remembered was Dr. Arden sedating me and then, I was back here. However, I DID remember those things performing experiments on me for only a brief second."

That sounded awfully suspicious. Maybe it had something to do with the screams coming from the metal doors?

"What things?" I asked him.

Kit took a deep breath and said, "It's a long story, ma'am. I would hate to trouble you with it..."

I fixed my hair nervously when he said that. Honestly, he was...cute when he was being polite like that.

"You don't have to call me ma'am, SIR. My name is Viviane Alistair by the way."

He laughed at my teasing comment.

"Viviane, huh? That's a lovely name...and you don't have to call me sir either. I'm Kit, Kit Walker."

The way he smiled at me was almost too painful for me to look at with how much he reminded me of Beau. Kit couldn't possibly be Bloody Face, could he? He acted so sweet and polite with me almost the entire night while we got to know each other a bit more. I just hoped that it all wasn't true.
