Helena rolled over to the other side of the bed, the silk sheets feeling cold against her skin, waking her up from her sleep. She sat up wiping at her eyes and trying to get her bearings. She looked around the dark room towards the small amount of light spilling in through the window, the curtains open just enough for her to see the rain pouring down outside. She slipped out of the bed, taking her robe off the bedpost and putting it on, walking to the window to watch the rain closely. Helena loved the rain, it was always so calming to her. She pressed her hand to the cold glass, the feeling reminding her why she was awake in the first place. She waltzed out of the room down the hall towards the office, knocking slightly on the door before opening it. As she expected, Elizabeth was sitting at the desk, staring down at multiple papers strewn across it.
“Come back to bed, Arden,” Helena ordered softly, walking further into the room and placed a gentle kiss on the taller woman’s scarf-protected head. Elizabeth didn’t answer her as she continued to analyze the papers. Helena placed her hands on the blonde’s shoulders, kneading the muscles beneath them. Elizabeth, as focused as she was, enjoyed the feel of being cared for by Helena.
“Elizabeth,” She pressed again for an answer, cupping Elizabeth’s cheeks from behind and lifting her head up so she had no choice but to look at Helena.
“Come back to bed, kotek ,” she purred, kissing Elizabeth’s forehead before kissing her lips.
“I can’t sleep when it’s raining and I don’t want to keep you awake. You haven’t slept in God knows how long because of your new launch,” Elizabeth explains, taking Helena’s hands and spreading light kisses over them.
“I’ll be fine, come lie down with me,” she argued scanning the desk. Her eyes fell on a small piece of paper with her name at the top, “what’s this? It looks like your handwriting.” Helena picked it up, trying to make sense of the words. She was still working on her English and couldn’t quite read it yet. She studied the note for a while, before quickly becoming frustrated.
“ Poddaję się, ” She crumpled up the paper and threw it on the ground, turning to leave the office and go back to bed. Elizabeth grabbed her wrist, standing up from the desk, and pulled the shorter woman back towards her.
“What’s the matter? Did you not like it?” Elizabeth questioned, running her hands down Helena’s sides and resting them at her hips. Helena frowned biting her bottom lip. She was embarrassed to tell Elizabeth that she couldn’t read them, but she knew she would upset the blonde if she just brushed it off like it was nothing.
“I can’t read it, Lizzie. I can understand spoken english and can speak it, but I cannot read or write it,” She admitted lowly, not meeting Elizabeth’s eyes. Elizabeth just chuckled lightly, causing Helena’s head to snap up.
“What’s so funny, Florence? ” That made Elizebeth stop laughing immediately.
“You and your pride, darling. You could’ve just asked me to read it to you,” Elizabeth answered. She picked up the balled-up note, unraveling it and walking to stand behind Helena. She wrapped her arms around the shorter woman’s hips, holding the paper to where they both could see it.
I don’t want to be your favorite or your best. I want to be your only and forget the rest. The day I met you I knew that this was not going to be just for a day. I knew that I will see your sweet face every day, that I will know you and live with you for the rest of my life. ~ anonymous.
Helena, I’ve never hated you. I loved you from the moment we met, but our businesses make loving you publicly impossible. So I will always cherish the private moments we share.
Your Kotek, Elizabeth. “ Elizabeth read aloud to her. Helena wasn’t an emotional person, she hardly ever cried, but the way Elizabeth was pouring out her love for her was making her tears fall like the rain against the window. She turned around in the taller woman’s arms, kissing her with a force so strong it shocked the both of them.
“I love you too, Lizzie, moje szczęście, ” Helena muttered against Elizabeth’s lips. Helena pecked at the taller woman’s lips a few more times before pulling away to look into her crystal blue eyes.
“Lizzie?” She whispered softly, nuzzling their noses.
“I’m exhausted. So I am only going to say this once more. Come back to bed, Arden.” Elizabeth grinned, kissing Helena again.
“Right behind you, Rubenstein.” The two made their way back into bed, snuggling beneath the covers, and found their way to sleep listening to the patter of the rain against the window.
