Work Text:
“I still can’t believe this house is actually ours.” Yaoyorozu said, glancing around the mostly empty house in awe.
She and Todoroki had been in a relationship for a long time now (since partway through their second year of high school, to be exact), so they finally made the decision to move in together.
The process had gone by faster than they expected as they had managed to stumble upon a quaint house — one pre-fitted with tatami, of course — in a quiet neighbourhood in the suburbs of the city their hero agencies were located in. The rest of their old classmates were all still living in apartments at the moment, but Todoroki and Yaoyorozu figured they had enough inherited money to be able to buy a house straight away.
Yaoyorozu turned her head back to look at Todoroki behind her, her lips curled into a beaming grin and her eyes shining with excitement.
They’d lived together before in the dorms, but it was going to feel different now it was just the two of them.

1. overpacking
“How much did you pack?” Todoroki asked in disbelief, staring at a slightly overwhelming number of cardboard boxes carefully stacked against the wall in front of him.
“I may have made some overestimations,” she replied, laughing nervously. “I’m used to packing a lot of luggage when I travel with my parents, so I guess that tendency overlaps to moving, too.”
Todoroki nodded in understanding, recalling how Yaoyorozu had brought too much stuff back in their first year when they moved into the dorms. From what he remembered, she’d ended up spending most of the day sorting through what she did and didn’t need. They likely had a long day ahead of them, then — thankfully, it was currently mid-morning.
“What did you pack to need that many boxes?”
Yaoyorozu’s lips pursed as her eyebrows furrowed. “One of them has a few paintings in it, and another has a collection of books,” she mumbled, tapping a finger to her cheek, “though I haven’t actually read them since I was… thirteen, maybe? I can’t quite recall.”
“Why pack them if you haven’t read them for almost ten years?” Todoroki questioned. It didn’t exactly make sense to him.
“Because you never know if something might happen and suddenly you’ve got time to read them again,” she said with a shrug and an awkward smile.
Todoroki smiled fondly and shook his head. He’s pretty sure she only packed most of the items in these boxes because of their sentimental value rather than out of necessity.
“We’ll just have to unpack the essential ones first and decide what to do with the rest later,” he said as he rolled back his sleeves.

2. cold showers
Yaoyorozu pressed the button to switch on the water for their high-tech shower, waiting a few seconds as usual in order to let the water heat up.
After building up a sweat from unpacking boxes and hauling around furniture all day, she desperately needed a relaxing, warm shower. (A bubble bath would have been preferable, but her eyes were already beginning to droop so there wasn’t enough time for that.) Todoroki had already been in before her, so Yaoyorozu could collapse into bed as soon as she was done.
Once those seconds had passed, Yaoyorozu dropped her towel and stepped into the shower, only to immediately be hit by freezing cold water.
A shriek escaped her lips as the unexpected temperature hit her skin. She almost slipped over from shock. Yaoyorozu checked the temperature, only to find it much, much lower than what she’d thought it had been. She was so used to not checking it due to having a bathroom to herself, so the thought of Todoroki taking showers at an incredibly different temperature to her hadn’t even crossed Yaoyorozu’s mind.
“Are you okay, Momo?” A gentle knock could be heard as Todoroki spoke through the door.
“You take cold showers?”
“Yes?” Todoroki answered, confusion laced in his voice.
“You’re the only person I know who does that,” she said with a giggle as she bumped up the temperature to her standard level and turned the shower back on again.
“Oh.”

3. clinginess
Todoroki slowly blinked a few times as his eyes adjusted to the morning light filtering in through the windows. His muscles still ached from carrying the heavy furniture yesterday — something he hadn’t been expecting, but he guessed he must have been using muscles he wouldn’t tend to use during hero work.
Glancing to his right, Todoroki saw a still-sleeping Yaoyorozu clinging to his left side like a koala on a tree. Her silky black hair lay spread out on the pillow beneath her head.
A faint sigh reached his ears as she wrapped her arms around him even more tightly, her body shifting forwards so her head could rest on his chest.
It had been a while since they last spent a night together, so Todoroki had almost forgotten about this habit of hers. She liked to cling to things in her sleep. It was adorable, in his opinion.
Yaoyorozu’s soft lips curled into a serene smile as he gently brushed a few stray strands of hair away from her face and pressed a chaste kiss to her forehead. He wished they could spend all their mornings like this.

4. soba
“What would you like for dinner today?” Yaoyorozu questioned as she and Todoroki walked into their house. They’d both just arrived home from work and were starving because they’d had to skip lunch due to being called in for an emergency.
“Soba.”
She snorted. “We’ve had cold soba two days in a row already.”
“I know,” he said, pausing for a moment as he took off his shoes to send her a befuddled look.
Yaoyorozu raised a brow in amusement, stifling a laugh. “We can’t eat the same meal every day, Shouto. I’ve been craving pizza for a few days now, so maybe we could eat that instead.”
Todoroki’s eyes narrowed and his nose wrinkled up as he made a fake-sounding guttural noise. Yaoyorozu knew he was averse to western foods, but this was a little over the top.
“What’s wrong?” She questioned, raising a hand in front of her face in an attempt to hide her smile.
“I don't like western food,” he pouted.
“What if I guarantee you will like it?”
“I doubt it.” Todoroki grumbled, glaring at the wall.
Yaoyorozu shook her head, letting out a sigh. Her stomach growled.
“We can have soba again tomorrow if we eat pizza today,” she compromised, taking hold of his hand in her own and walking towards their kitchen. “Does that sound okay to you?”
As they walked into the kitchen, she heard Todoroki gloomily whisper, “I just want soba.”

5. creations
It took until the fifth day for them to finally go to the attic and sort through the boxes they stuffed up there back on the first day.
Todoroki crouched down in front of a box — one of the final ones left that needed unpacking, thankfully — and checked the label.
His eyebrows furrowed. Assorted creations?
“Momo!”
The creak of a ladder could be heard a moment later as Yaoyorozu hastily climbed it, stopping part way up and poking her head through the open trapdoor.
Todoroki turned around to look at her, pointing a finger over his shoulder in the direction of the box. “What are assorted creations and where do they go?”
“Oh! It’s, um.” Yaoyorozu began. She twirled a lock of her around her fingers. “I have a habit of creating objects without intending to. Where they’ll go depends on what it is.”
Todoroki turned back to the box, sticking the scissors in his hand through the tape sealing it shut. Opening it, he was met with the sight of a myriad of assorted items. It ranged from a small collection of scented soaps to a range of figurines, all of which were familiar faces. They were all somehow neatly organised (they were all sorts of shapes and sizes, so Todoroki had no clue how Yaoyorozu had managed it) in there, everything slotting together in a uniform way.
“Do you know why you do that?” Todoroki questioned curiously as he picked up what looked to be miniature versions of themselves.
“Well, if I need something small, such as a pen, I tend to create one instead of finding one I already own.”
Todoroki nodded in understanding. That made sense. Honestly, he probably would too if he had her quirk.
“I also have a habit of making things when thinking of them as a possibility. I don’t mean to, but before I know it— poof!” she waved her hands in the air. “It’s in my hand.”
“Are these the old prototypes of the figurines we sold for charity a few years ago?” Todoroki questioned as he stood up and walked over to her, holding the Creati figurine.
Yaoyorozu perked up, grabbing it from Todoroki’s hand. “I was wondering where I put these. I’d like to give them to our classmates at some point. Oh, maybe it could be a christmas gift? Or maybe I could—”
Todoroki breathed a small laugh as she continued to ramble on, clapping her hands together excitedly. He’d always found that trait of hers endearing.

6. ice cubes
Yaoyorozu descended down the stairs, a hand gliding across the railing. She yawned, stretching her other arm up above her head as her feet met the tatami floor below.
“Good morni—” Yaoyorozu stopped mid-sentence as she paced into the kitchen, met with the sight of her boyfriend who held a glass full of ice cubes.
No water. Just ice cubes.
They stood in silence for a few seconds, just staring at each other as Yaoyorozu’s mouth opened and closed like a goldfish. A loud crunch snapped them out of it.
“What are you doing?”
“I like eating ice,” he mumbled quietly, fishing out another cube and flinging it into his mouth. “It’s a habit I had as a kid. I only got back into it recently.”
Yaoyorozu sighed as she heard another loud crunch.

7. reassembly
“Almost there… I just need to slot this in here and then…”
“What are you mumbling about?” Todoroki questioned, sitting down next to Yaoyorozu. He pressed a quick kiss to her cheek as he took in the sight of her desk which was covered in an assortment of wires and screws amongst other bits and pieces.
“I bought a new phone — a more outdated model, so it wasn’t too expensive — so I could take it apart and examine how it works, but I’m having a hard time piecing it back together,” she explained as she placed down the screwdriver in her hand. “I like to do this regularly as part of my quirk training.”
Todoroki stared blankly at the pieces strewn across the table. He wouldn’t even know where to begin with a project like this. Yaoyorozu never failed to impress him, even though they’d known each other for just over eight years now — almost seven of which they’d dated for.
“It looks much harder than it actually is,” she said.
“Sure…”

It was strange for Todoroki and Yaoyorozu to learn they still had a few weird habits and peculiarities the other wasn’t already aware of, but they each looked forward to discovering many more.
