Rey woke up with a start. She didn’t hear Ani cry and the twins didn’t come running. Were they okay? It was still dark out. Where was Ben? It wasn’t supposed to be his turn tonight. He’d been so busy with work lately too.
She slipped out of bed and stumbled out into the hall. She could hear the Echo Dot playing instrumental Disney songs.
“…for one so small, you seem so strong,” Her breath hitched and she crept closer to the door. Ben was sitting on the rug on the floor and the twins were snuggled on either side of him while Ani was bundled up in his arms. He was holding a bottle to him. Since when did he learn this song? She doesn’t remember playing Tarzan for the twins either, “My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm. This bond between us, can’t be broken, I will be here, don’t you cry.”
She bit her lip and watched as her husband fed and sang to their youngest while the other two slept peacefully next to him. How did they even get in here? Why were they even in here?
“From this day on, now and forever more. You’ll be in my heart, no matter what they say,”
She wished she brought her phone so she could’ve taken a video. She waited until he’d finished singing and he’d placed the bottle on the floor before making her presence known. She cleared her throat and he looked up in surprise.
They’d been married almost three years and he still flushed like it was their first time seeing each other.
Not that he’d actually flushed then.
“I’ll take him,” She said, slipping into the room and holding Ani up to burp him.
“You should’ve gone back to bed,” He said, holding both sleeping toddlers, one in each arm.
“You should’ve woken me,” She said and raised her face up to receive his kiss, “You need rest too,” He gave her another kiss and she sighed.
“I love you,” He said softly and she smiled.
“I love you, too.”
