The Future's Not Ours To See ( A JoJo Watching The Show Fanfiction )

Chapter Text

 The Elementals

Jonathan Joestar had a burning fire in his eyes. He had seen Dire sacrifice his life to try and defeat Dio Brando. Truly, Dio's power to freeze people was menacing enough, but he even had superhuman regeneration. Yet there was a doubt in Jonathan's heart; would he, even with the surge of Hamon he got from his mentor, William Zepelli, be able to defeat that abomination?

But the doubt and fear faded away  when Speedwagon tossed him the sword, 'Pluck', as Bruford had named it. He had to kill Dio, the man who had made his life hell. No, the man who had killed everyone he loved and cared for; Danny, his father- George Joestar, his mentor- William Zepelli. Even Dire, whom Jonathan had met that night, earned his respect. Bruford, the noble knight, whose soul had been corrupted by Dio. He had to make Dio pay.

A horde of vampires attacked, but Straizo dealt with them. Jonathan focused now on Dio. He charged at him, with Pluck. He knew Dio would try to freeze him, and the sword. He could predict Dio's next move. Just like he guessed, Dio tried to hold the sword between both his hands. JoJo swiftly moved the sword out of Dio's grasp, and lunges at his nape. Today, he would end the phantom menace. Or so he thought. In front of his eyes, his sword phased through Dio's body, as if it were air. Was this one of Dio's vampiric powers as well?

'Hinjaku Hinjaku Jojo, it seems that even after learning that Hamon gimmick of yours, you managed to miss. Good. Now I, Dio, will drink your blood, vanquishing the Joestar lineage, and then, with no one left to oppose I, Dio, I shall rule The World. Jonathan, to think that you would go out so easy, to think I would get to see you struggle helplessly as your life slips away in front of your eyes- Nani?!'

Jonathan expected that Dio's fingers would land on his neck, bursting his carotid artery, and draining out his blood. He had played the part about the sword phasing through Dio as a hallucination. But then, there were Dio's finger's. They had phased through Jonathan's neck, again, like air. Despite Dio's entire wrist having passed through his neck, there was no injury. He had a look of bewilderment, which was shared by Dio, and Speedwagon, and Straizo, and the ancient Hamon master Tonpetty. So, atleast phasing through objects was not Dio's power. Then whose was it. Before he could think any further, a white light came from the hallway of the castle, blinding everyone.

When Jonathan opened his eyes, he was in some kind of room. It looked quite posh, as it had a warm fireplace, and expensive looking rugs. around the fireplace, there were couches, a table,  an ashtray, and a strange, shiny black colored slab. He looked around and saw that Speedwagon , Straizo and the others were here too. He was relieved, at least everyone was safe. But Jonathan's relief turned into apprehension. In front of him was the man, the monster, Dio Brando. 'Dio ! Is this one of your powers too? Do you seek to delay our battle, or like the coward you are, assasinate us right here?' Straizo and the others immediately assumed fighting stances. Dio snorted, 'Hmph! As if I, Dio would ever resort to such parlor tricks to dispose of useless trash like you, JoJo.'

JoJo's expression turned into one of confusion. ' You mean to say that it wasn't you who did this?'

' I thought one of you human scum had done this' Dio replied.

'Mr Joestar, don't listen to him. You know how cunningly he can manipulate others. This is definitely his power. All the talking he's doing is only to buy himself time!'  Said Speedwagon.

Jonathan wasted no time. True, he might be in this unfamiliar place, but Dio was still the same. He had to be killed.

Jonathan stood shocked. He expected the familiar warm, yellow glow of Hamon to wrap around his body, but he was only met by the cold, lifeless wind.

'JoJo!! This is my chance! While you cannot use Hamon I, Dio will kill you and feast on your blood!'

Now it was Dio's turn to be shocked. Normally when he did this, his fingers would pierce through a man's throat like a knife through butter, and he would effortlessly suck in all of their blood. But this time, all he managed to do was poke Jonathan's neck.

Now now gentlemen, let us not fight. Someone might get hurt, and worse, you might end up breaking all the furniture.

'Who the hell are you? Are you the one who brought us here? Show your face coward!' Speedwagon yelled.

My, my . I wouldn't use such coarse language now , Speedwagon.

'How the hell do you know my name?'

Speedwagon's query was left unanswered, as the mysterious voice continued.

Fear not, for I am a friend of humanity, unlike a certain pond-scum present here.

'Bastard, what did you just call me! Should I make you my slave or have you eaten slowly by my minions!' Dio snarled back.

Brando. Dio Brando. Normally I would beg for mercy from you, but in this room, you are powerless. This is the power of this room, it cancels away all supernatural abilities. So stop fighting, unless you find pleasure in mauling each other to death.

Now let me introduce myself. I belong to a race called the Elementals. In our world, names hold no meaning. We elementals are almost immortal, but our survival depends upon the well being of the human race. I come from an alternate reality, or in simple words, the future, where humanity has been doomed. I have come here to warn you that any foolish act on your part could potentially  end humanity.... Sike.

Oh nevermind, its a phrase which means that I was joking, I was joking about the humanity being doomed thingy.... although, I was sincere when I said I'm from the future.

Now, many of you might have wondered about the odd looking slab in front of you.

This was met unilaterally by headnods, even from the Oh-So-Mighty Dio.

You see, it is a contraption of the twenty first century. We call it a television. It allows us to see distant things. Gentlemen, I will now present to you the future. The future of the Joestar Family.

Everyone stood shell shocked, especially Jonathan. The future of the Joestar family? He sounded like he was serious. Then, did he mean, Jonathan's descendants? But that would mean... did he marry Erina, what job did he pick up to  support himself, why were his descendants so important?

He focused. He had to ask one question, but surprisingly Dio was thinking the same thing.

'Hey big shot. I don't care if your'e from the future or whatever! If you really want to predict something, tell me the outcome of the fight. I won right. I vanquished the Joestar bloodline, right?'

You lost. The voice replied monotonously. Joestar destroyed your body with Hamon, reducing you to a mere head. The vampire army  you raised was burnt to ashes at dawn.

Jonathan heard the first piece of good news in his day. So he would win. But then, the voice never said Dio died. It said that he had been reduced to a mere talking head. Then...

I know what you're thinking Joestar. Dio does survive. After this battle, you get married to Erina Pendleton and become an aspiring archaeologist. You and your wife go to a honeymoon to America, but in the ship, you get attacked by Dio's head. Dio had planned to escape to America in a blast-proof coffin. He also turned everyone there into vampires. However, you subdued him and blew up the ship, along with yourself and Dio. Your wife, Erina Pendleton escaped pregnant with your son.

Jonathan did not know how to react to this. After all, it's not everyday that people are told the exact fashion in which they die. So he did all he could, stare into space.

No one in the room said a word, not even Dio. The silence was overwhelming. To break the ice, Speedwagon hastily asked

So.. we are going to watch the lives of the descendants of Mr Joestar right?

To his surprise, the metallic slab, or the 'televison' as the voice had called it, flickered and suddenly he could see pictures, but in motion.

Episode 1: New York's JoJo (Part I)

Straizo, Speedwagon , Tom Petty, Jonathan and Dio, men who were supposed to be fighting each other, had their faces glued on to a television screen.

The future? Considering the Elemental's powers, which included cancelling out Hamon and vampiric powers, there might have been some truth to what he was saying.

Jonathan's descendants? Who were they, what were they like? Considering the nobility of the Joestar bloodline, Speedwagon assumed, no he was sure that the descendants of Jonathan, who had the noble blood of the Joestars flowing through their veins, would be upstanding gentleman .

The screen showed the propeller of some sort of machine, which no one could recognise.

It then shifted to an old man. He had a scar on his face, and looked awfully similar to another man. One who was currently watching this bizarre show.

Wait, it couldn't really be... Don't tell me that is...' words failed to escape Speedwagon's mouth. The old man in the device looked awfully familiar, with that gaze, and that scar.

We know this man. Or... We know his gaze, that scar!

'You're looking well, Speedwagon.' said a much older Straizo.

"Huh, I've aged quite a bit" the present Straizo thought to himself. Of course, he restrained his reaction. Compared to the shock Joestar was going through, this was hardly anything. After all, Hamon had its limits, Straizo knew that one day he would grow old.

The much older Straizo continued. 'I heard you went to America and made a fortune in the oil business.'

' Hardly a fortune. You look as young as ever, Straizo. I find it hard to believe that we are of the same age. Hamon is indeed life energy. Can't say I'm not jealous.

Jonathan looked proudly at Speedwagon. The man had finally escaped his life of squalor at Ogre Streer, and was now, apparently a successful businessman in America. Speedwagon himself was shocked. He had always dreamer of escaping the violent life of Ogre Street. He had dreamt of perhaps leading a normal life, in a safer part of London, perhaps one where there were not so many threats to his life, but to think that he would be a millionaire...

It suddenly struck Jonathan. If Speedwagon was in America, he was probably the one supporting Erina. After all, apparently Jonathan had died in the ship 'accident'. So, this descendant of his definitely lived in America. He had to find out everything he could about his future descendants then. After all, it was not everyday that someone  would get an opportunity like this.

Forty-nine years after Jonathan's death, a new time, a new age. Master Tonpetty's successor Straizo and his followers meet the oil baron Speedwagon.

They're heading to Mexico. Something found in the ruins discoverd by an archaeology expedition... An expedition sponsored by Speedwagon's foundation.

'No, it can't be. It simply cannot be'  Tonpetty, beads of sweat trickling down his neck, said . He broke the silence which he had kept ever since they had been trapped in the room.

''What cannot be, master?' asked a concerned Straizo.

'Its them, those monsters... Please, oh Lord let this be a normal expedition.'

At this point, the Hamon master had managed to pique the interest of even Jonathan. The group looked at him expectantly, waiting for his next words.

After composing himself, Tonpetty said ' There is something I must tell you all. The creators of the Stone Mask. They are a closely guarded secret, even amongst the monks in Tibet. They are an ancient, forgotten race of beings. They are called... Pillar Men '

Silence befell the entire room. So this is what they were dealing with. The progenitors if the cursed stone mask. Which had begun it all. So this is whom they were up against.

Something kept secret from the world. Something only they know about.

Speedwagon led the group into a dimly lit chamber.' What you see here will probably, no, certainly strike fear in your hearts! Fear bleaker than anything we experienced with Dio 50 years ago'

He led them to a statue, of a man, surrounded by Stone Masks. Not a single one, but many of them.

' These are, the masks!'

Jonathan felt helpless watching those weapons which could end humanity in the blink of an eye, on a screen, unable to do anything. He felt like barging into that virtual world, and destroying them himself.

A single one of these masks had brought the destruction of an entire town. So many masks, and the entire world could be conquered.

Dio felt as if it was a challenge, posed directly to him. So there were other vampires too. Apparently these ones were the original vampires. Not the ones which had come through the Mask. Dio would probably even co-operate with JoJo if it meant he could get rid of these 'Pillar Men'. They were threats to his supreme and unchallenged power.

With baited breath, everyone waited to see what would happen to the Pillar Man.

Instead, the scene shifted to New York. They were greeted by the Statue of Liberty. Below, the captions read,

New York,  1938

A black teenager was seen walking on the streets. Somehow, his thoughts could be heard.

"It was in the fall of '38. I was out like always, looking for marks"

'Whaaat! You've never heard of Coca Cola?  Judging from your accent, you're English? A tourist?' Said some shopkeeper.

Jonathan's ears suddenly perked up. An English tourist? That had to be the descendant of his, the one whom this show was about. Finally he was going to see what he was like.

A tall and buff teenager was having an animated conversation with the shopkeeper about Cola, which was apparently a famous American beverage. Suddenly, the black teenager came running and swiped away the tourist's wallet.

' Amateur. One would expect that he would at least correct his footwork befor having a go at him. ' said Speedwagon. Through the course of his battle with Dio, Jonathan had almost forgotten that Speedwagon used to mug people before he joined them on the battle with Dio. '

' Why, his footing is perfect, but if he had run a bit faster, he wouldn't have be in risk of getting caught.'

Dio replied.

Oh right, Dio had spent most of his life in squalor too.

'Dio, in your entire life have you stolen anything worth more than a shilling?'

Jonathan was the strangest man in England. Among all of the British, he definitely had the greatest share of bizzare incidents. Still, he bever thought he would end up seeing Dio and Speedwagon arguing over, thieving techniques? Were there actually techniques for stealing, and were they worth being discussed?

Anyways, the teenage boy ran into an alleyway. 'That sucker, piece of cake.' He was happy about his catch when he got caught by a cop. More like a pig, but still, a cop. The cop had an accomplice standing behind him.

'Hey Smokey, looks like we caught you red handed.'

'YOU WORTHLESS STREET SCUM!'  The cop yelled as he smashed Smokey's face into the pavement.

Jonathan winced. Even if the boy was a thief, this was too extreme. Definitely the boy was just trying to survive. This cop was nothing like the police officers Jonathan had seen. They at least had a sense of honour and civility.

' Get me twenty dollars everyday and half of what you steal. Ya got that!'

No matter how hard Jonathan tried, there was nothing even slightly redeeming about the cop. He was a disgrace to his uniform.

'Hey,take it easy, I only pinched a wallet.' Smokey managed to croak out.  Then, the tourist, who was supposed to be Jonathan's descendant, showed up.

'Ah, it's that chum from before. We will be keeping the wallet as evidence.'

' Excuse me officer, but that wallet is a gift. So could you please return back both boy and wallet?'

Jonathan felt proud of his descendant. He had stood for the right thing. Truly a gentlemanly thing to do.

' Well if ya know him so well would ya mind tellin' us his name?'

The tourist stayed silent.

The cop continued. 'Don't lie. Wanna spend some time in the pen, you bonehead. ' He then proceeded to rub a booger onto the tourists face.

Jonathan retched back in disgust. Not at the booger, but at the cop.

The tourist from before calmly said, ' I'm curious. Why would you do something like that? What is the purpose behind it?'

'I admire his calm demeanor' Speedwagon quipped.

'There is no purpose. I do it cause I feel like doin it, dammit!'

'And I, detest the cop's' Jonathan added.

The cop continued ranting-'When someone places a booger on your face, it means...'

A powerful punch came from Jonathan's descendant, forcing the poor man's nose deep into his nostril. He promptly collapsed on the ground, struggling to breath.

'You chose the wrong person to mess with, pig!'

Jonathan could only watch. True, he may have detested the cop, but that punch was taking things a little too far. Jonathan almost felt bad for the cop.

The other cop was scared. ' were shot resisting arrest!' he said, pointing his gun towards the Englishman.

'We'll see. The moment you pull the trigger, I will blow your finger right off your hand!' . Strangely enough, he pointed his Cola bottle at the cop.

'Mr Joestar, do you think your descendant actually has a plan?'

Jonathan's face said everything. Never in his life, would he ever have dared to punch a policeman. Now there was his descendant, pointing a bottle at an armed cop.

Suddenly a yellow light started emanating from his body.

Hamon... so he knew how to use it after all. But wasn't the cop too far away, even with a zoom punch, there was only so much he could do.

The boy infused his Hamon into the bottle cap, propelling it at a great speed. The bottle cap neatly ripped off the cop's finger. He fell on the ground, screaming.

Jonathan's descendant then proceeded to drink the remaining Cola, in the most ungentlemanlike way ever conceived.

Suddenly, he realised something.

'Crap... I gave in to my temper again. Granny Erina's gonna be mad at me!'

Jonathan looked at the scene in horror. His grandson. Out of all the people he would expect to so casually nearly kill two policemen, his own grandson.

Speedwagon bit back on his words...err his thoughts. This was no gentleman, he'd fit like a glove back in Ogre Street. How did Jonathan JOESTAR'S grandson grow up into this?

The room was silent, save for Dio's snickering. 'JoJo, looks like your grandson has more balls than you do. Oh, this chap is going to be so much, much more interesting than you are.'

The black teenager looked up to him. ' Hey man, thanks for saving my life back there. The name's Smokey by the way. What about you?'

'Joestar, Joseph Joestar'.

Chapter Text

The room was quiet, save for Dio's laughter. He lay sprawled across the sofa, barely able to breathe. To make matters worse, Dio had somehow discovered a strange device with some sort of buttons on it. Apparently, by pressing the one with the two vertical bars on it, you could stop the show.

Yes, this was most definitely a show. A grand show of how the gentlemanly spirit of the Joestar family had been tarnished in a matter of minutes. And now it had become Duo's source of entertainment.

'Oh, shut it Dio. The boy's manners may be inappropriate but he's got a good heart.  Now, Robert, if you may, please snatch that thing from Dio and continue playing this thing.'

Speeewagon snatched the remote from Dio.

Dio sneered. But even he was curious about, not the Joestar pond-scum, but the "Pillar Men". Were they truly enemies that even surpassed Dio? So he let Speedwagon continue the show.

Speedwagon and the others stared at the strange humanoid sculpture in the center of the ruins. ' This is... Who is the man depicted in the pillar?! This is no ordinary structure!  It contains amino acids and has a cellular structure! There's also a very faint pulse and heart beat! In other words...This thing is alive!'

The atmosphere in the room tensed up, but mostly it was Jonathan. Jonathan was often called an oaf, but he had his head in the right place when needed. As they spoke, Jonathan kept trying to ind ways to defeat the new threat to humanity. Until now, he'd assumed the sculpture was a weapon, which could have been used like the Stone Mask. But now he found out that the sculpture was the enemy itself. But considering that it hadn't attacked anyone, it would be safe to assume that the Pillar Man was incapacitated. Then all they needed to do was to have Straizo destroy it with his Hamon.

"Mr Straits, I do not care what this creature is, or how many years it' s been alive. Nor do I care about why it created the stone masks, or why it exists here! It doesn't  matter to me. What I called you here for was to destroy this thing with your Hamon while it remains asleep!'

Straizo calmly walked to the statue, looked at it .

'Joseph Joestar'.

'How is Joeseph Joestar? I heard he saved your life using Hamon recently. '

'Why are you bringing up JoJo now-'

'If I recall correctly, this took place when JoJo was thirteen years old. Yes, I believe the story goes that your plane was hijacked and you were held hostage.'

Speedwagon found out that he'd been, no, that he would be taken hostage in the future. He wasn't sure what this 'plane' thing was,but he would apparently be kidnapped in it. Speedwagon wasn't new to the hostage taking business. In fact he himself had taken quite- a -many of those noble snobs hostage. He still couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of being that rich.

Chapter Text

In case anyone was wondering why I haven't been posting for so long, its mainly because it was to hard to keep making this fanfic. The idea of Jonathan reacting to his bloodline was really fun and all, but I couldn't find anywhere the episodes script were, and so I had to pretty much watch the episodes and simultaneously type out the dialogue. As you can guess, it got pretty frustrating. Still, it would be a shame for this story to just die out. So, I wanna put up this fic for adoption. If anyone feels like continuing this work, you have my permission to do so. (I'm not sure how 'Adopting' a story in AO3 works tho...)

Anyways, sorry for the relatively short author's note, and arrivederci.

PS: I started reading Komi san wa Komyushou Desu( Komi Can't Communicate). Loved the manga and all, but now I'm thinking of writing a Komi san x JoJo crossover. Opinions?  The first chapter will be out by 12:30 am GST tomorrow, so stay tuned for that.
