Grace was driving home from a back-to-school party when she saw flashing red and blue lights in the rear-view mirror. The officer claimed she had been swerving all over the road, but she was sure that wasn't true. He offered her a bottle of water, and it tasted bitter. He needed to give her a breathalyzer test, he said, but he didn't have one in his car, so he drove her down to the station.
Well, she thought he was driving her down to the station. He turned down a different road, which was strange, but she didn't question it. But then he kept going. And going. Far past the police station.
“Where…,” she started to ask. Where what? Where are we? Where are we going? But she couldn’t remember what she was trying to say. The world was slowing down around her. Everything was so fuzzy, and nothing was making sense.
They drove for what felt like hours before she heard his voice from far away. “Everything’s okay. We’re almost home.”
