Yoongi is staring up at his ceiling in a bit of a daze. When he first heard about the break their company would be allowing them, he assumed it was going to only be for a week or two. That was how things usually went, but now he finds himself with an entire month of absolutely nothing on his calendar. He has the complete freedom to do whatever he wants, and the notion kind of scares him a little.
After being on tour for the majority of the year, he’s so used to his life being planned out for him. Even as he lays on his bed, legs tangled up in his sheets, a part of him still expects his manager to come barging into the room and tell him he has a photo shoot to get ready for.
Yoongi rubs some residual sleepiness out of his eyes and groans as he sits up. He can’t hear anything happening on the other side of the partition separating his room from Jin’s, so he assumes that the elder is already taking full advantage of his free time. Knowing Jin, Yoongi imagines that he's out visiting a friend’s house, or holed up in some PC cafe to play Maple Story.
The bed creaks as Yoongi shuffles off of it. His black out curtains are doing a really good job of blocking any trace of sunlight, and he wonders if that’s why he still feels tired even though it’s noon.
Squinting against the bright blast of sunlight like a vampire crawling out of his cave, Yoongi pivots on his heels and starts making his way over to where his phone is plugged in. Ever since Weverse was first introduced to them and the members became active on the platform, he developed a habit of checking for notifications every morning when he woke up and every night before bed.
Yoongi unplugs his charger and starts replying to some posts. He’s still looking down at his phone as he walks out into the hallway, and nearly kills himself by almost slipping on one of Yeontan’s squeaky toys that just so happens to be laying right outside his door.
To be fair, Yoongi did hear the puppy whining for him in the hallway last night, followed by the sound of obnoxious squeaking, but he'd been too lazy to get up. Not to mention the fact that Jin has some sort of grudge against Yeontan ever since the fur ball ventured over to his side of the room and chewed on his DS.
“Control your son!” Jin had yelled at Yoongi, and for some reason the rapper hadn't felt the need to correct him on the fact that Yeontan wasn’t his.
Silently, Yoongi picks up the toy and realizes with a grimace that it’s still soggy from Yeontan’s drool. He wonders if the puppy woke up early and tried getting into his room again. It wouldn’t be the first time. Before the whole DS fiasco with Jin, Yoongi used to leave the door open a crack so that Yeontan could nudge his way inside. He liked waking up to the little Pomeranian nuzzling his cheek or licking his nose— not that he would ever admit something like that out loud.
With the toy pinched between the tips of his thumb and pointer finger, Yoongi walks to the culprit's room. The dorm seems deathly quiet today, but if he really concentrates he can hear Hoseok talking to his sister on the phone. Other than that, there’s just the low hum of the fridge in the kitchen, and the A/C kicking on from time to time.
Yoongi uses his foot to unceremoniously kick open Taehyung’s room door. It isn’t aggressive or anything, it’s just that he’s holding a wet chew toy in one hand and his precious phone in the other. He’s got priorities.
“Yes, Hyung?” Taehyung greets without preamble. He’s got headphones on, but there’s one dangling from his right hand, like he had yanked it out upon seeing Yoongi barge into his room.
“Just returning this,” Yoongi informs, holding up the offending toy for Taehyung to see. He chucks it to the side after the younger gets a good look at it, and from somewhere in the room he can hear Yeontan’s tiny feet scrambling across the hardwood floor to go get it.
“Oh, I was wondering where he put that,” Taehyung muses. His bed hair is just the right amount of messy, and his silk blue pajamas crease in new places as he stretches. “I heard him squeaking it this morning but I didn’t have the energy to get up.”
“It was right outside my room,” Yoongi says, not even the slightest bit annoyed. “I slept like the dead so I honestly didn’t hear it.”
“I bet Jin hyung did,” Taehyung laughs, and Yoongi silently agrees with him. It was probably the main reason why he didn’t see his roommate this morning.
Since he’s not in any rush, Yoongi sits himself down at the edge of Taehyung’s bed and points to the notebook in his hand. “Are you drawing or writing today?”
“Just some doodles,” the younger answers with a shrug. He’s got both headphones out of his ears now. “I want to paint them on some jackets I bought the other day, but I’m putting it on paper first to see how it will end up.”
“Good idea,” Yoongi praises, and he means it. The very first time he saw one of Taehyung’s creations, he was impressed. The younger has a keen eye for unique and creative things. It sometimes makes Yoongi a little envious that he isn't so gifted in that aspect of art, but over time the envy has turned into admiration. “Is Joon here?”
Taehyung shakes his head, making the newly dyed black strands fall into his thick lashes. “No, I think he went to the park. He kept saying something about missing the fresh air... but I was half asleep and couldn’t really hear him properly.”
“Yeah that definitely sounds like Joon,” Yoongi chuckles, and fondly glances over to the small partition separating Taehyung’s room from Namjoon’s. He can see all the Ryan plushies, even from where he is sitting, and he wonders how Namjoon wakes up every morning with so many beady little eyes staring at him.
“Jiminie and Kookie went to the movies,” Taehyung continues, fluffing up the back of his hair with a fidgety hand. “So I think it’s just me, you and Hobi hyung left in the dorms today.”
“That probably won’t last long,” Yoongi guesses. “I heard Hobi on the phone with his sister. He’s probably going to be leaving for Gwangju today.”
Taehyung nods. His sketch pencil had been rhythmically tapping against the corner of his notebook, but now it’s still. “I thought about visiting my family too, but I think I’m going to rest here for a few days before going over there. They live a lot closer now so it’s not like I have to rush.”
“Oh, yeah that’s right,” Yoongi says, recalling the news of Taehyung’s parents moving closer to Seoul. “No more accompanying me on train rides to Daegu I guess.”
The giggle that escapes Taehyung’s lips is radiant and warm. “I’m really going to miss those train rides.”
Yoongi smiles. “Me too.”
He doesn’t know why he’s still in Taehyung’s room. Usually he’s just in there long enough to quickly relay a message or steal Yeontan for cuddles. He hasn’t sat and talked with Taehyung in his room like this in… well, in ages.
It doesn’t feel rushed and Yoongi likes that. He likes that he can take in every single one of Taehyung’s nervous ticks as he talks. He likes that he can still hear bits of sleep clinging to his deep voice. He likes that there’s classical music playing faintly from a speaker near the younger’s headboard, only adding to the already serene atmosphere.
“Why didn’t you go to the movies with Jimin and Jungkook?” he asks, finding it a bit odd. Usually the maknae line are all over each other on days off— especially if all of them are on break at the same time. “You love the movies.”
“Yes but…” Taehyung grimaces a bit, and Yoongi fights the urge to pull the younger’s bottom lip from between his teeth. He used to always scold him about biting his lips raw when they were trainees. It's a habit that has followed the younger into adulthood, although it's much more tame now. “... It isn’t exactly a situation I should tag along for.”
Yoongi’s confused but he’s trained to hide his confusion well. He doesn’t know what Taehyung is going on about, but if Jimin and Jungkook are making him feel left out in some sort of way then he's going to have a talk with the two.
“It’s not like that,” Taehyung prattles on, sensing Yoongi’s heart before the elder even has to say anything. “They didn’t outright tell me not to come, but I still knew I shouldn’t.”
Taehyung tilts his head and glances off to the side before focusing on Yoongi again. His ears are doing that thing where they burn red, and the elder is beginning to think that he missed some sort of hint.
“Well…” Taehyung starts, clearing his throat. “They are dating so…”
“Oh... right,” Yoongi blurts, feeling a little ridiculous. Poor Taehyung’s face had to catch fire before he understood the situation. He can only imagine how hard it must be for the younger to differentiate when it's okay to insert himself and when it's not. Jimin and Jungkook only started dating each other seriously a couple of months ago, and the members are still adjusting in a way.
Yeontan scampers over to Yoongi’s legs and pushes the soaked squeaky toy into his bare skin. The rapper cringes but indulges the puppy anyways, bending down to grab the toy between two fingers and fling it across the room again. Yeontan’s tiny back legs kick up as he chases after the toy, and Yoongi can’t help but smile softly at the sight. He really is way too whipped for that dog.
Holly would be so jealous.
“Sometimes I forget about it,” Taehyung hums in thought, staring after Yeontan as well. His notebook is closed now but his hands haven’t stopped fiddling with the pencil. “Like we’ll just be hanging out and it’ll feel like old times… until suddenly Kookie is leaning over to kiss Jiminie on the mouth and i’m like wait a second, hold the phone, please spare my eyes.”
Yoongi chokes out a laugh at that. He can almost picture Taehyung’s mortified face after seeing his best friends kiss right in front of him. It isn’t like the younger hates the idea of Jimin and Jungkook being a couple. In fact, Taehyung was the main person who encouraged them to make things official in the first place, but it must still be disconcerting for him to see his brothers act like that in front of him.
“It isn’t funny, Hyung!” Taehyung whines, and Yoongi really hopes his eyes aren’t giving away just how weak he is for Kim Taehyung’s pout. “I’ve been scarred for life! It’s irreversible!”
“Oh yeah?” Yoongi teases, reaching down to pet Yeontan once the pomeranian bumps into his leg again. “I bet they’ve done all sorts of things on Jimin’s bed. Hey, weren’t you two cuddling just the other—”
Yoongi’s words are cut short when a pillow goes careening into his head.
“Hyung!” Taehyung flushes, looking down right scandalized. “I could have lived ten lifetimes without having to think of that!”
“You're welcome,” Yoongi grins, and does little to comfort the younger as he groans into his other pillow. One of the rapper's favorite past times is provoking Taehyung. The singer is just so easy to rile up, and sometimes he even matches Yoongi’s level of sass. Bickering with each other is just one of the many different ways they communicate, and Yoongi wouldn’t have it any other way.
“You know what? Just because those two lovebirds want to go to the movies, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it as well,” Yoongi says, and Taehyung stops squirming in his bed long enough to look up at him.
“What do you mean, Hyung?”
“I mean…” Yoongi begins, a smirk quirking up the corner of his lips. “Let’s go to the movies.”
Taehyung blinks. “Me and you?”
“Yeah, why not?” Yoongi shrugs. “I might be heading off to Daegu next week, and you’re going to be visiting your family soon. We might as well spend some time together before then.”
The way Taehyung is squinting at him isn’t really a good sign but Yoongi’s sincere. Talking with the younger so casually is reminding him of the fact that they don’t get a lot of moments like this. Sometimes the day to day hustle and bustle of dance practice, studio time, photo shoots and interviews makes it hard for them to stop and really see each other. The same can be said for some of the other members too.
"I'm serious, we can go today," Yoongi insists. "Is there anything in particular you've been wanting to see?"
Taehyung sits up properly in his bed now and crisscrosses his legs. He still doesn't look convinced that Yoongi actually wants to spend the day with him, but the elder is determined to prove him wrong. Having a month off is a blessing in disguise. Yoongi wants to take full advantage of it.
"Okay, we'll go," Taehyung finally replies. "But not the same theater as Jiminie and Kookie please."
Yoongi laughs before patting Taehyung's cheek.
The theater they go to is a bit father from their dorm than the usual one, but they don't mind the distance.
After some protesting, Taehyung finally let's Yoongi pay for their tickets, popcorn and drinks. He feels like spoiling the younger today, so it isn't a hassle for him to open up his wallet every time.
The movie they decide on is a bit of a romantic one, but Yoongi isn't complaining. He enjoys watching Taehyung's face light up with rosy cheeks at all of the sappy lines. These days his deep giggle is like a lightning strike straight through the rapper's heart.
"I want someone to propose to me like that one day," Taehyung gushes, as soon as they leave the theater. He's referring to the scene where the love interest comes running after the main actress in the rain. As soon as she turned around he dropped to his knees and proposed to her right there, in the middle of the street and heavy downpour.
Yoongi originally thought the scene was a bit cringey and ridiculous, but after seeing Taehyung's cheeks go pink over the thought of someone proposing to him like that… it suddenly doesn't seem so silly anymore.
They hurry to their tinted car, doing everything in their power to not be noticed by a fan, and Yoongi gets behind the wheel. Despite being one of the first members to get a license, he wasn't really given a lot of opportunities to drive.
Now he can do just that, with Taehyung sitting in the passenger's seat and the sun setting behind Seoul's skyscrapers.
"I'm thinking of going shopping tomorrow," Taehyung says. "There's some things I wanted to get for my brother and sister. Do you…"
He trails off and Yoongi glances over at him, intrigued. Very rarely does Taehyung ever hesitate around him.
"What is it?"
Taehyung takes a deep breath and shrugs. "Do you maybe want to go with me? I heard there's going to be a big sale on electronics too."
Yoongi laughs at the way Taehyung throws in that little anecdote. It's almost as if he believes Yoongi wouldn't set foot in a store unless there was something in it for himself. "I would go with you regardless, Tae."
The younger blushes and rests his chin on his hand as he turns to stare out the car window. Yoongi likes the way the warm glow of the sunset makes Taehyung's big brown eyes burn orange.
"So it's set then. We'll go shopping tomorrow."
Yoongi reaches across the center console and pats Taehyung's thigh. "I'm looking forward to it."
They start to spend a lot of time together.
Granted, they already did. Being in a group of seven boys all living under the same roof doesn't really allow for a lot of alone time, but no one can deny just how much Taehyung and Yoongi can't seem to go anywhere without each other.
It's only been a week, but so far they manage to go on countless walks, shopping trips, lunches out and even an extremely domestic trip to the vet with Yeontan.
At first the other members don't really notice it. Hoseok is still visiting family, Namjoon is usually out of the house or in the studio, Seokjin has been pursuing his different hobbies, and Jimin and Jungkook have been spending plenty of "quality" time together. So it's not so surprising that they missed this new development between their Daegu residents, but something niggles at Park Jimin's brain the moment he sees Taehyung and Yoongi return from Yeontan's vet visit.
Taehyung is the first to come through the door, his wind swept hair making him appear model like despite clearly being out all day. What makes Jimin raise his brows in curiosity is the fact that Yoongi comes in right behind him, holding Yeontan close to his chest while the puppy affectionately licks his chin.
They look… Well, they look like a little family.
Jungkook hasn't seemed to have noticed anything yet, still absorbed in the video he's playing with Jin. Jimin had been doing everything in his power to possibly distract his boyfriend, from draping across his back to blowing raspberries in his ear. Nothing shook the maknae from his steel like concentration, so Jimin had settled for simply resting his head on Jungkook’s lap.
Now he's watching the two members who completely slipped under his radar the entire week. Taehyung looks worried as he chews on his bottom lip and stares down at the little pill bottle in his hand, and Yoongi reaches out with no hesitation at all to rub soothing fingers into the nape of the younger's neck.
Yoongi starts mumbling something, probably trying to only speak loud enough for Taehyung to hear, but Jimin squints his eyes at the both of them and listens closely.
"...It'll be okay. The vet said it's just a precaution. Apparently it's something all pomeranians are prone to."
"I know but…" Taehyung huffs and leans a little closer to Yoongi, almost resting his weight entirely on him. "...I already don't get that much time with Tannie. I don't want anything bad to happen to him."
"And we'll make sure nothing ever does," Yoongi says, and Jimin doesn't know if it's the gentle surety in his voice, but for some reason he starts to feel like he's eavesdropping on something intimate.
Squirming around a bit, he eventually decides to sit up properly, and his absence is what finally draws Jungkook away from his heated match.
"Oh! Hyungs!" He greets excitedly, only just realizing someone came through the front door. "When did you guys get home?"
Yoongi's hand drops from Taehyung's neck, but Jimin still eyes their close proximity suspiciously.
"Just got here," the rapper grunts. Yeontan starts going into a licking frenzy again so he quickly lowers the dog to the ground. "Who's winning so far?"
"Me, of course," Seokjin pipes up, much to the annoyance of a competitive Jungkook. "He keeps asking for a rematch like that will change anything."
"Shut up! Let's go another round!"
Jimin rolls his eyes in exasperation and Taehyung giggles. He likes seeing his best friend looking brighter than the somber expression he originally walked into the house with.
"Are you still planning to visit your parents before the break is up, Taehyung-ah?"
Taehyung blinks at Jimin in surprise, almost as if he completely forgot about his original plans.
"Oh… um," His eyes dart over to Yoongi for a second, and Jimin's brows furrow in confusion. "Yeah… I mean, yes. Of course I am. I think I'm going to leave tomorrow, actually."
Yoongi turns to him with a frown. "You are?"
Taehyung's face looks so conflicted in that moment, Jimin's soulmate radar is telling him to save his bestie from the spotlight he's currently under, but then Jungkook comes to the rescue without even realizing it.
"Hey Yoongi hyung do you want to join us? We have a third controller and Jiminie hyung just likes to watch," the maknae calls out.
Yoongi is already shaking his head and walking towards the bedrooms before Jungkook can even finish his sentence. It isn't unusual for him to prefer to relax in the comfort of his own room, but what's unusual is the way his hand latches on to Taehyung's sleeve and gently tugs him along.
Jimin tries to make eye contact with Taehyung to ask him what's been going on with the two of them, but the younger is already dutifully following behind Yoongi like a lost puppy.
Yeontan is right on their heels as the two disappear into Yoongi's room and close the door behind them, and Jimin vows to himself that he'll get to the bottom of things before Taehyung leaves for his parent's house tomorrow.
Taehyung slowly looks up from where he's been packing a small suitcase. His bestest friend in the whole wide world is currently standing over him with his hands firmly placed on his hips.
"Spill? Spill what?"
"You know what," Jimin insists, looking offended. "I just can't believe you've been keeping it from me. I mean, I thought we agreed soulmates always get first dibs on secrets!"
"They do. You— You do," Taehyung stutters, feeling attacked. "What's this about? Why are you staring at me like that?"
Jimin rolls his eyes and flops onto the bed, nearly jostling a folded shirt out of Taehyung's hands. "Are you really going to make me spell it out? Anyone with eyes can see that thing going on between you and hyung."
Now Taehyung looks outright flabbergasted. "Me and hyung? Jimin-ah what are you talking about? Which hyung do you mean?"
Jimin shook his head in amazement. "Wow, you're good. Definitely keep that up for the cameras if you don't want anyone to find out."
"Can you please start making sense," Taehyung frowns. "I don't understand what you're talking about at all."
Jimin stares at Taehyung's face for a second, the room blanketed in an awkward silence, and then he sits up to look at the younger in surprise. "Wait you really don't know what I'm talking about?"
"Yes!" Taehyung exclaims in exasperation. "Why would I?"
Jimin has a deer-in-headlights look to his eyes, and Taehyung just wants to get back to packing in peace. He doesn't know what has gotten into his friend lately but he'd like an explanation.
Jimin drags a hand down his face before sighing. It looks like he's accepted the fact that Taehyung is a lost cause. "How are things between you and Yoongi hyung recently?"
Taehyung is shocked into silence for a moment, not understanding why Jimin is bringing up Yoongi all of a sudden, but he stares down at the shirt in his hand and starts to nervously pick at the threading.
"Yoongi hyung… him and I are okay. Why? Did he mention something to you?"
Jimin shakes his head. "No, I just think it's very interesting how you two have been spending so much time together."
At that, Taehyung's gaze snaps upward. "Interesting how?"
The younger singer feels like Jimin knows something he doesn't, and he has always hated that feeling. Was there something wrong with him spending so much time with Yoongi? He didn't think anyone had a problem with it. All the other members seemed so preoccupied with their own activities, he didn't really think they noticed his and Yoongi's absence.
"I don't mean it in a bad way," Jimin quickly amends, probably noticing the panicked look on Taehyung's face. "It just… it kind of reminds me of how Jungkookie and I spend time together."
"You and Kookie?" Taehyung asks slowly, tilting his head to the side. "But you guys are…"
He trails off, and it's the eager way in which Jimin starts nodding that finally has Taehyung catching on to what his best friend had been trying to tell him all along.
"No!" he blurts. "Yoongi hyung and I aren't— we haven't— Where did you even get that idea?"
A sly grin stretches across Jimin's mouth now, and Taehyung feels all the blood in his body rush to his face. The shorter male just has an overactive imagination, that's it. There's no truth to what he's insinuating. What he has with Yoongi can't compare to a relationship like Jimin and Jungkook's. There's no way his hyung sees him like that, it just isn't possible.
To Yoongi, Taehyung will always be the gangly little brother with a weird smile. He'll always be the source of playful bickering and teasing hugs. He'll always look at Taehyung and remember nights tucking him into bed during their trainee days, when the younger was just way too tired and sore from dance practice to lift the sheets himself.
It doesn't matter if Taehyung thinks Yoongi is beautiful.
It doesn't matter if he looks at the rapper like he hung the stars in the sky.
It doesn't matter if Jimin thinks they're dating… because it just isn't true.
And probably never will be.
Taehyung suddenly feels so sad, and Jimin picks up on it right away. The smirk on his face drops to make way for a look of sympathy. He doesn't like seeing Taehyung this dejected, so he immediately pulls the younger into a bone-crushing hug.
"Everything will be okay, Taehyung-ah," he whispers, and Taehyung chuckles wetly into his shoulder.
"How did you know? How could you tell I was in love with hyung?"
Jimin presses his face into Taehyung's neck and smiles.
"What kind of soulmate would I be if I didn't?"
The rain is heavy and relentless as Taehyung packs up the van his manager will be using to drive him to his parent's house. He wanted to make sure to get Yeontan into the dry vehicle first and foremost, and now he has to go back for his suitcase. His manager offered to do it for him, but Taehyung refused. The man is already going out of his way to drive him, Taehyung doesn't want to get him drenched as well.
There's still a lot to think about. The talk he had with Jimin last night is fresh on his mind, but there just isn't enough time to sort everything out. Jimin told him he should talk to Yoongi before leaving, but at the end of the day Taehyung feared matters of the heart more than anything else in the world.
After calming Yeontan down in his carrier, Taehyung ventures out into the downpour once again, but freezes at the sight of an equally sopping wet Min Yoongi standing in the middle of the street like a soaked cat.
"Hyung, what are you doing?!" He yells over the loud drumming of the rain. "You hate getting wet! Get back inside!"
"No!" Yoongi yells back, his lips trembling from the chill. Taehyung nearly rushes forward to drag him back into the house, but the elder's voice stops him in his tracks. "I need to say something!"
Taehyung tugs his jacket tighter around himself. "Can't this wait?! It's raining like crazy and I have to go!"
Yoongi bites his lip and shakes his head. He takes several steps forward and Taehyung holds his breath when trembling fingers cup his face.
"I have to say it now or I'll probably never say it."
Taehyung blinks droplets away from his eyelashes as he stares down at his hyung. Feeling Yoongi's hands on him and his shaky breath hitting his face, it's suddenly way too hot in the middle of that cold rain.
His mind flashes on buttered popcorn and a movie that made his cheeks hurt from smiling so much. This scene… it feels so familiar.
"I love spending time with you, Taehyungie," Yoongi states like it's the most natural thing in the world. His eyes are alight with something Taehyung has never seen in them before. "I used to be so confused by it. I wondered why having you by my side made everything infinitely better. I wondered how I could have come to depend on a single person so much. This isn't like me… to always want someone in my space… to always want to hold a certain hand."
Taehyung grabs Yoongi's hand in that instant, his heart thumping so loudly in his ears he almost can't hear Yoongi at all.
"I want to try this with you," Yoongi breathes out, and he reaches up to push some of Taehyung's wet fringe out of his eyes. "We can make this work. I know we can. I think… No, I know you're my person."
"Your person, huh?" Taehyung finally replies with a precious giggle, his warm breath visibly showing in the chilly air.
"You do know what I mean right?" Yoongi asks, suddenly looking shy. "I don't know a better way to put it. Please don't make me have to—"
"I've always wanted to kiss my crush in the middle of the rain," Taehyung shrugs, his smile so big there was no way it would ever disappear.
Yoongi's blush barely has time to spread across his whole face before Taehyung is leaning down to press their lips together over and over again.
It's more innocent than the feeling in their gut suggests, because Taehyung wants to pull Yoongi tighter against him. He wants to feel all of him and never let go.
Yoongi is the first to pull away and suck in more air, and Taehyung laughs against his mouth with a lightness he hasn't felt in a long time.
"Better than the movie?" Yoongi asks.
Taehyung rubs their cold noses together and nods, knowing exactly what he means.
Their time apart is spent with family, and doesn't leave much room for them to call or text, but every evening around the same time— once things die down and Taehyung is in the comfort of his parent's guest bedroom— he gets an incoming facetime from Yoongi.
After accepting the call, Taehyung pulls Yeontan into his lap and lifts his front paws in a tiny wave.
"Hi hyung!" Taehyung chirps as soon as Yoongi's face appears on the screen. "Hi Holly!"
Yoongi's laying on the bed with Holly resting comfortably on his chest. The dog is just too cute and fluffy, Taehyung really can't wait to finally meet him in person one day.
"Hey, Tae. Hey, Kim Tannie," Yoongi coos, with his gummy smile on full display.
Taehyung can literally feel himself falling for the rapper all over again.
"Papa says hi, Tan-ah," he whispers to Yeontan, but loud enough for Yoongi to hear.
"How was today?" Yoongi asks. His voice is rough and a little sleepy. "Good?"
"Yeah, it was fun," Taehyung assures him. "I got to spend a lot of time with my siblings too… but I miss you."
Yoongi's gaze softens. "I miss you too."
Taehyung started fiddling with the hair around Yeontan's little legs. He wants to ask Yoongi something but it feels heavy compared to the comfortable atmosphere they're currently enjoying.
"What? What is it?" Yoongi questions, ever the observant one.
Taehyung swallows thickly before looking directly into the phone camera. "Would it be weird to tell you I love you while we're… you know… trying this out?"
Yoongi's face is still for a moment, and Taehyung almost starts to think the connection froze, but then the elder is rubbing at his forehead in thought before pushing back his hair.
"Tae, you used to say it all the time. I don't see why things should be any different now," Yoongi finally answers with a quirk of his lips, and Taehyung lets out a relieved sigh.
"Good, because I've wanted to say it since our first day apart."
Yoongi laughs then, and Taehyung's heart does somersaults. It's crazy how not even a phone speaker can distort the beautiful sound.
"How about this…" Yoongi begins, scooting a little closer to the screen. It hasn't even been a full week with his family, but his cheeks are already fluffier than they were before, and his skin is glowing healthily. The smitten singer wants to hug his boyfriend now more than ever. He wants to litter his face with kisses and feel that dazzling smile against his neck, instead of having to witness it through a video call. He wants to hear the next few words that leave Yoongi's mouth in person:
"I love you, Kim Taehyung."
