Hoseok leaned against the wall of the school, attention somewhat taken by his phone as he waited for 3:15 to tick around. Once he heard the mindless babble of various students spilling out of the building his eyes began to scan the crowd. Looking for her, the only reason he would ever step foot near such a nauseous place.
Whilst his mind was occupied with the slight worry of being unable to see (Y/N), he failed to notice her sneaking up behind him and placing her hand on his shoulder. He immediately turned around with a sigh of relief.
“How was your day?” He asked, pulling her close with hands firmly on her waist.
“It was okay. We’ve just got some tests coming up so I’m stressing about them.” She replied, smiling and blushing slightly at his intimacy in public.
“Mhm.” He didn’t really reply, just looking at her lips. Just as he was about to make a move, a shout burst the bubble the couple had been in.
“(Y/N)!” Her head snapped in the direction of the person, only to see it was one of her classmates jogging up to her. “Do you have a second? We didn’t get the chance to arrange our study session!”
“Oh! I can give you my number and we’ll talk about it later?” She suggested awkwardly, not wanting to keep Hoseok waiting around any more.
“Sure!” Mark handed her his phone and stood awkwardly avoiding looking at Hoseok as she entered her number.
“Well, see you tomorrow!” She smiled, after which Hoseok grabbed her hand and began to lead her away but not before uncharacteristically glowering at Mark.
(Y/N) snuggled close to her boyfriend as his stereo played a soft beat.
“Are you okay?” She asked, looking up at him with a slight anxiety. He’d seemed detatched and distracted all evening, far from his usual cuddly self.
“Ah, yeah. Just thinking.” He ran his hand through her hair in a comforting manner, but that wasn’t good enough for her.
“Seriously, Hobi. Talk to me.” She sat up and looked him dead in the eyes.
“Your…friend…just rubs me the wrong way. You couldn’t find another person to study with? Jungkook did the same subjects as you last year.” He mumbled, pouting slightly.
“I’ve already agreed to study with Mark. I’ll do this one study date and if it goes badly like you’re suggesting then I’ll ask for help. Happy?” She pecked him on the cheek. Hoseok begrudgingly accepted her compromise with a small smile and returned the kiss intensely.
“I just can’t get my head around this chapter!” (Y/N) complained loudly, slumping onto the table in defeat as the librarian looked at her in contempt but didn’t attempt to enforce silence. Mark chuckled, putting down his book at the same time.
“Just great. I can’t understand it either so I was hoping you would be able to explain it.” He chuckled, checking his phone idly.
“Maybe I really should ask Jungkook for help?” (Y/N) contemplated aloud. Mark shuffled his work awkwardly.
“Say (Y/N), there was something I was hoping to talk to you about.” He started hesitantly as she raised her head to show him she was listening. “Your boyfriend. Is he treating you okay?”
(Y/N) blinked in confusion. “We’re fine. What makes you think otherwise?”
“He just seemed very…powerful when we met the other day. He’s older than you by a fair bit, and that can easily can lead to him being able to dominate the relationship easily. That isn’t healthy within a relationship.” Mark spilt all his thoughts out at once.
“I guess I can see why you’d say that. But it’s fine! He’s super caring and does so much for me!” She replied, rubbing her forehead slightly as doubts started to rise up.
“He doesn’t ask for anything in return?” Mark queried, brow furrowed in disbelief.
“Not really. Just that I listen to him when he asks me to, and if he gives me advice on who to hang out with I have to be understanding and take it on board. In fact, he wasn’t very keen on us studying together but I won him over in this case!” (Y/N) flashed him a awkward smile, starting to feel uncomfortable as the doubtful thoughts started to buzz louder.
“That’s not right. He shouldn’t control who you’re friends with. (Y/N), believe me this is a massive sign that your relationship is becoming toxic-” His concerned rant was cut off when she stood up, gathering her books in her arms with tears gathering in her eyes.
“That’s enough. Bye, Mark.” She snapped, stalking out of the library in a huff. As soon as she was far enough away, she slumped and wiped her tears away. It was at this point she started to listen to Mark’s words a second time in her head, mulling them over as she walked home.
