Chapter 1: Oh no, I poked a King
Hi guys! I've decided to turn my thread into a fic, ten short chapters at around 2k, with side Yoonmin and Vhope.
There's nothing new in chapter 1 if you've already read the thread, sorry! Just skip to chapter 2
Much love and enjoy!!!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Jungkook's been a vampire for like a week. There's a stiff learning curve. So far he's figured out that sunlight's deadly, garlic's poisonous, animals are afraid of him, even his dog whom he's known for six years, and he can no longer mingle with humans, having to move off his campus. But there are good things too; for one, he no longer needs face creams or acne washes. His skin is amazing now. His food bills have gone down since all he requires is blood which is supplied by the KVS twice a week. His eyesight is fixed and he can run forty miles an hour.
So there are pros and cons.
Today, Jungkook's just finished moving into his new house, a vampire's only neighborhood, and he's surprised by the luxury of the place, considering it's free. Tonight, he has to go a neighboorhood gathering, and he's not sure what to wear or expect. Jungkook opts for a black hoodie, black jeans, black shoes, and a black hat. Vampires like black right?
But when he gets there, to the town hall, he realizes what a mistake he's made. Everyone's wearing Gucci and the favorite color is not black but red, fountains of it. There doesn't seem to be any organization, vampires socializing with chutes of blood in between their fingers, wearing the latest styles. It's more like a party than a meeting.
Jungkook's a little lost, a little shy. He wonders where he should go, what he should do. That's when he spots a vampire in the crowd, sitting all by himself, looking a bit serious and sullen. He seems the safest to talk too, not too busy. Jungkook's first thought is that if that man was in some sort of music group, he'd totally want to be in that group too. The boy plops himself down on the couch beside the man, who looks very surprised at him.
"Hi," Jungkook casually introduces himself. "I'm Jeon Jungkook. I'm new here. Who are you?"
The other vampire eyes him curiously before answering. "My name is Kim Namjoon."
"It's nice to meet you," Jungkook says. "Can I call you Joon? Joon-hyung?"
The vampire chokes on nothing. "You may not, and you really shouldn't be sitting here. This spot is for-"
"Why not?" Jungkook asks playfully, hand moving on its own, gently poking the man's dimple.
The man blushes, a bright red, shuffling away. "D-Did you just poke my face?"
Jungkook makes a mental note. Vampires can blush, and blushing vampires are adorable.
"Sorry," Jungkook answers. "It's just that you have a really cute dimple." He pokes it again. "Right there."
Jungkook's feeling really confident. Joon's cute, and tall, and a little shy, and just his type. If Jungkook could rate himself, he'd give his flirt game a 9.5, and he's being humble.
That's when two burly, hairy guys pull Jungkook off the couch by the arms, dragging him away.
"Hey! Let me go!"
One of the hairy men speak. "What shall we do with him, my King? The commoner touched your face."
Namjoon's a king? What?
"No one has dared touch my face in a hundred years," Namjoon says darkly.
"How shall we punish him?" the other guard asks.
"Should we cut off the offending hand, sire?"
Jungkook breaks out in a cold sweat. "Wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just- you're really cute and I was just flirting with you."
Namjoon mouths the word flirting, with a look of confusion.
The man looks as serious as death. "What do you mean, cute?"
Jungkook grimaces. "Would you prefer adorable or... endearing... uh, my King."
"How dare you disrespect our King!" the guard barks. "I should teach you some-"
"Let him go," Namjoon says, blush returning to his face.
The guards let Jungkook go at once.
"Leave us," Namjoon says, gesturing with one hand.
The guards both bow, before walking away. Jungkook scowls at them.
"Yeah, you better run."
And then they're alone again, and Jungkook's very nervous. This guy's a king, what the fuck? Jungkook bows too, hands up defensively. "I am so sorry to have bothered you, Mr. King Namjoon. I'll just go and make myself scarce--"
The King stares at him with pinpoint focus, thick lips, and sultry eyes.
"Stay," he commands. "Sit."
Jungkook swallows audibly. Oh fuck.
The boy sits on the couch very stiffly, skin blistering hot. He doesn't know what to do.
"Hey, look. I'm so sorry. I'm new, like brand new. Like the other day, I touched a clove of garlic and almost died. Please, uh, sir. Pobody's Nerfect... can you please let me go?"
The King smiles, the slightest of smiles, and Jungkook feels the strong urge to poke his dimple again, only he doesn't. God, this man. How is he this handsome and sexy and cute at the same time? Jungkook's a mess.
"How old are you, boy?" the King asks, tilting his head.
"I'm twenty-one, sir," Jungkook manages.
"No, that's your human age," Joon corrects. "In vampire culture, your age begins from the day you were turned."
Jungkook counts with his fingers, nervous and strangely aroused. "I'm fifteen days old, sir."
Namjoon's smile widens.
"It must be very hard for you," the King says. "Quite the adjustment from human life."
Jungkook blinks a few times before he sighs with relief. "Yes! It's so hard. I almost died five times, six if you count right now. I didn't even know we had a Vampire King."
Namjoon tilts his head, eyes swimming in some unnamable emotion, pity, understanding... desire?
"I could teach you," Namjoon offers, "all about vampires."
"Really?" Jungkook chirps. "You want to help me?"
"I am your King after all."
The way he says it has Jungkook sweating.
"Y-You seem like a v-very benevolent monarch," Jungkook sputters, body questionably hot.
Namjoon quirks an eyebrow. "I can be very generous, yes."
Jungkook feels like he's rapidly losing years of his life... only he's immortal now so like, the idiom doesn't really work.
"That's good then," Jungkook manages. "I really need someone to teach me."
Namjoon scoots a little closer. Jungkook ignores the fact that the man smells like cinnamon and sin.
"I'm a very thorough teacher," Namjoon whispers. "But first, tell me, do you really think I'm cute?"
Jungkook's mouth goes dry, and he can't remember if he locked his front door, or what his own name is, but-
"Yeah," Jungkook admits softly. "You're cute and sexy, and I'm sorry I poked your dimples without your consent."
"Your apology is accepted," Namjoon whispers in his ear.
Jungkook's heart flutters inside his chest.
"You're very sweet, Jeon Jungkook," the King continues, cool breath on his skin. "And honest. You pay me compliments with no agenda nor gain. And that's very rare in our world. The next time you touch me, know that I want you to."
And that's when Jungkook's brain catches up with the situation. He jerks back, his face flushed. "Oh! Oh my god! Are you flirting with me? I thought you were going to punish me!"
Namjoon adjusts his suit cuffs, eyes going all silvery. "I could. If that's what you desire."
"Well-" Jungkook shakes his head. "No, I'm good. I should go- this has been very... educational."
Namjoon's eyes are pools of fire. "I live on the big house on the hill. Come see me any time, Jungkook."
Jungkook's brain is all over the place, and that makes him act out.
"Sure thing, my King," Jungkook says, brains screaming that it rhymes. His hand moves on its own again.
He boops Namjoon on his nose, all the while saying the word. "Booooop."
The Vampire King is beyond surprised.
"Well," Jungkook says quickly, getting up. "Don't be a stranger!"
And then the boy runs back to his house, which takes a very short time since he can sprint at 40 mph. The last thing he hears is laughter, and one of the guest gasping. "Oh my gosh, did he just really boop the King's nose!"
And Jungkook shamefully has to say yes, yes he did.
The next night, after Jungkook catches his breath, and organizes his thoughts, he realizes it must be hard to be a King, everyone always pretending around you. It must be nice to have one honest person to talk to, and so Jungkook decides to go back... and get his vampire lessons.
Jungkook wears his best clothes, skinny jeans, a tight t-shirt, and limited edition sneakers, for no reason. It's not like he's trying to impress anyone, right?
The house on the hill is visible from almost every angle, tall and lavish, and well kempt. It's got dark, gothic themes, swirly spires, and high, stain-glass windows.
Jungkook's heart pounds hard in his chest as he walks up the steps and rings the doorbell. What if this is a mistake, what if Namjoon doesn't want to see him? The door opens almost instantly. Namjoon on the other side, wearing a hoodie with a Ryan plushie face on it.
"M-My King," Jungkook manages, eyes wide.
"You really came," Namjoon hums softly. "Please, come in."
"I'm here for those vampire lessons you offered, my King," Jungkook sputters, walking stiffly.
"Hmm, what was it you said? Joon-hyung, you can call me that from now on," Namjoon casually offers.
Jungkook chokes on nothing. "Sure, Joon-hyung. So, uh, where should we begin?"
The King regards him softly. "It's a nice night, let's have our lesson out in the garden." and then the King boops the younger's nose.
Jungkook's brain stops working for a whole minute, cheeks burning. Once he has control of his limbs again, he rushes to follow the King into the garden, where there are two flumes of fresh blood already waiting on a white patio table.
"H-How did you know I'd come tonight, er, hyung?" he asks.
The King shrugs. "I didn't. I just hoped you would. I'm glad you're here."
Jungkook nervously takes a seat, not sure where to look, settling on a rose bush. The garden is very beautiful, filled with night-blooming flowers, smelling strongly of jasmine and mint.
"So, er, vampires, yes," Jungkook begins. "Please tell me about them."
Joon smiles good-naturedly. "So eager aren't we?
"I'm-" Jungkook doesn't know what to say. "Yes."
The King sighs, long fingers wrapping around his glass. He starts off with history, how their people came to be, delves into their discovery, the peace with the humans, and ends with a list of things that are deadly to them.
"Blueberries," Jungkook repeats. "I would have never guessed."
Namjoon leans back. "Vampires are, in some respects, delicate. The sun's coming up. You should probably get going."
They'd talked all night, and Jungkook didn't even realize. He doesn't want to go home, not yet.
"Your majesty," Jungkook says, sounding bolder then he feels. "Remember when you said that I was allowed to touch your face."
The King leans forward again, eyes going silver around the edges. "I do recall, yes."
"Would it be okay?" Jungkook says. "If I touched it with my lips?"
Namjoon smiles, "I thought you'd never ask."
Jungkook tilts his head to the side, eyes sliding shut. Ever so gently, he kisses the King right on his dimple, like he'd been fantasizing about all night, skin so silky and cool. Then he pulls away to study Joon's reaction.
There's a sparkle in the vampire's eye as he cups Jungkook's chin. "That was very chaste, Kookie."
"Was it okay?" Jungkook whispers, enamored with the man before him. "I don't want to overstep like before. I figured it must be very lonely being King, and stressful too--"
"I liked it a lot," Namjoon says. "And it is lonely being a King, but I don't feel alone right now."
Jungkook's skin is burning where the King's touching him, or it could be the sun, which is almost about to rise above the horizon.
God, this man is so beautiful and alluring.
Only the threat of death could move him from this spot. "W-We should get inside, J-Joon-hyung."
The King stands, taking Jungkook's hand and lacing his fingers through. "Yes, let's go. Let me give you a tour of the house. I think I'll show you my bedroom first."

Chapter 2: Do Vampires Have Dental Plans?
As Promised here's the next installment~
Kookie, the Newborn Vampire~
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
“Bedroom?” Jungkook repeats, mind sputtering as Namjoon pulls him inside, behind the safety of UV proof glass.
“Would you prefer we start in the bath?” Namjoon asks casually, eyes sparkling with interest as his sunburn heals.
“Yes,” the young vampire replies, before thinking about it fully. “I mean no. I-I mean, why don’t you show me the living room first?”
The King laughs, reaching forward and brushing Jungkook’s bangs behind his ears. The younger averts his eyes, drawing away, cheeks burning.
“I was only teasing you,” Joon says, smiling softly, dimples so inviting. “Come on.”
The King lives lavishly, the only empty room is the kitchen, free of utensils and cookware. There are only blood bags in the fridge, and glasses in the cupboard. It’s very economical. The living area has large, comfortable couches, and unexpectedly, a big, flat screen adorned with the latest game stations.
Joon leads Jungkook up a spiral staircase to a hallway bathed in amber light, and then the master bedroom, not at all what the newborn had expected.
It’s contemporary, popular books, and music lining the walls. There’s a large memory foam futon, supported by a thick, black wooden frame. This could be Jungkook’s room, how he’d style it if he had a couple hundred bucks to spare.
“Not what you thought it’d be,” Joon offers. “It’s comfortable.”
“I like it,” Jungkook says, fingers lightly grazing over the neat rows of CDs. “You listen to Agust D. He’s really good.”
Namjoon smiles. “What did you think? I just listened to creepy classical music, wearing billowy shirts, sleeping in my fancy coffin.”
Pretty much, yeah.
Jungkook shrugs. “I don’t discriminate, even back when I was human. I guess that’s what got me here though.”
Namjoon’s eyes darken. His voice loses all humor. “What do you mean?”
Jungkook doesn’t feel like answering, recounting how he came to be is rather unfortunate, and also very private. “Ah, it’s not important. Where to next, hyung? You wanted to show me the bathroom?”
The King backs off, sensing the line in the sand. He turns towards an ornate door and pushes it open. The bathroom is exquisite, cream blue tiles, and a large tub in the floor. There’s also a shower off to the side.
Jungkook whistles, checking himself in the full-length mirror. “Nice.” He quickly fixes his hair, preening even when he knows Namjoon is watching. He gives the mirror a smile, tongue running along his gums
“Still teething?” Namjoon jokes.
Jungkook flushes, not understanding the statement. “What?”
Namjoon points at his mouth. “Your teeth, your vampire teeth, have they come in yet?”
Jungkook’s not sure if the King is serious, or if he’s just teasing again. He doesn’t have any extra teeth, except the ones he had as a human. “Uhhhh, I don’t know.”
The older Vampire is charmed, looking at Jungkook fondly, as if he’s some sort of baby animal. “Can I?”
“Can you what?” Jungkook asks, folding his arms, heart knocking against his ribs.
“Can I look?” Namjoon coos. “I won’t hurt you. I just want to see. Open your mouth, Kookie”
Everything the older says is a razor’s edge from being inappropriate, and also oddly sensual. Or maybe it’s just how Jungkook’s affected. Namjoon literally drips sex appeal.
“Okay,” Jungkook manages, showing the man his teeth.
Namjoon gently cups his chin, eyes going silver as he focuses in. Very slowly, he runs his thumb over Jungkook’s gums as if pressing a button, or releasing a hatch. Suddenly there’s a pressure there, not exactly painful, but definitely not pleasant.
When he feels around with his tongue, something very sharp nearly cuts the flesh. “What the fuck?”
Jungkook checks himself in the mirror, batting Namjoon’s hand away. The younger now has fangs set right over his incisors, long and sharp.
“Holy fuck,” the younger curses. “This explains the pain in my gums from last week. I thought I was going crazy.”
“It’s perfectly natural,” Namjoon says, flashing his own fangs, before retracting them safely. “Just an evolutionary trait that’s fallen out of favor. We don’t need to bite anymore… although some of us still have that oral fixation.”
“H-How do I make them go back in?” Jungkook asks, studying the mirror, careful not to nick himself.
“Just calm down,” Namjoon instructs. “Take a deep breath.”
Jungkook does just that, but the fangs remain. “It’s not working.”
“Is there anything that relaxes you?” the King asks, amusement dancing across his sultry features. “Why don’t you go lie down on my bed for a few minutes.”
The thought doesn’t make him any less anxious. He’s already in the house of the most handsome man he’s ever seen. Jungkook’s not going to climb into his bed too, even if invited.
“I just need to sit,” Jungkook suggests, spinning around rigidly, going back into the bedroom, and sitting in the nearest seat, a high-end office chair. “Don’t worry about me. Just go about your business.”
Namjoon laughs, keeping his distance. “I apologize. I didn’t mean to cause you any stress.”
“I’ll be fine,” Jungkook says, muscles tense. It’s not like he can go anywhere now, stuck in this house until the sun goes down. He can’t go home to wait this strange vampire hard on out in privacy.
Namjoon stands. “I’ll get you something to drink.”
He walks out slowly, giving Jungkook one last bemused smile before disappearing behind the arch.
Jungkook deflates with a sigh, thankful to be alone. He eyes the bed longingly, a part of him wants to roll around in the sheets, absorb Namjoon’s scent. But that’d probably be weird. He could also go look around in Namjoon’s closet, see what attire a King wears besides Ryan hoodies, but that’d be equally strange.
The King reappears with a glass in hand, a little clear straw poking out from it. “It’s enough to relax, not enough to trigger a blood frenzy.”
Jungkook doesn’t want to know what that is, accepting the glass gratefully and taking a sip. The newborn isn’t used to the feeling of drinking blood yet. It tastes like the best beer you’ve ever had, if that’s your thing, or maybe the best glass of wine. It takes off the edge of being what he is now. That’s probably the best way to explain it.
“Ah, fuck,” Junkook hisses, “That’s good.”
He drains the glass dry, jaw aching to bite down on something, but otherwise the perfect experience every time. His fangs retract as he sets the cup down, sighing with relief.
“There,” Namjoon hums. “All better.”
The blood awakens something in Jungkook. He’s only had it four times since he’s been a vampire. Twice a week, the KVS ships him one unit exactly, so he can’t binge on it. He suspects they’ve probably had mishaps before.
“Thanks,” Jungkook manages.
Before Namjoon can respond, they both hear a car pulling up into the driveway. It’s still day, hardly the time for visitors. The King’s look darkens considerably, and for the first time since they’ve met, he drops his polite manner, making a face. “Ah, fuck.”
“What’s wrong?” Jungkook asks, taken aback.
The King leads Jungkook downstairs. “Try not to take him seriously. I don’t. Stand back, Kookie.”
Jungkook pauses where he is. Namjoon presses a button on the wall which opens the door, allowing poisonous sunlight through. Two people enter the living room, both like characters out of shonen mangas.
The first is covered head to toe, long black gloves, a big floppy hat and big glasses that cover his entire face. The second man holds an umbrella over them both, dressed completely in black, sharp eyes, his mouth covered.
“Jungkook,” Namjoon says, gesturing at the first man. “This is my little brother.”
The man strips off his gloves, having an alluring grace about him. He takes off his hat and glasses, revealing a striking, cherub face, and thick lips. “Park Jimin. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
The second man isn’t as theatrical. He simply closes up the umbrella, setting it off to the side before pulling down his face mask. “Hey, I’m Min Y—”
It’s Agust D, his musical hero.
Jungkook straight up passes out
“Come on, baby boy,” a deep voice whispers. “Wake up.”
Jungkook’s eyes flutter open, and Namjoon’s hovering above him, fanning his face, though it does nothing for him since Vampire’s don’t get warm as humans do.
“Whaaa happened?” Jungkook slurs, the ceiling swirling above him.
“You fainted,” Namjoon says. “But don’t worry. I caught you.”
The way the King says it has Jungkook’s stomach doing somersaults. It takes him a minute to even wonder why he fainted in the first place. “Huh?”
The reason becomes immediately clear. Agust D is sitting in the living room, an amused expression on his porcelain face.
Jungkook can’t even process. Min Yoongi is human, and he really shouldn’t be here.
“I didn’t know vampires could faint,” the rapper says.
Jimin presses a hand to his mouth. “I didn’t know either. Your friend is quite delicate, brother.”
Namjoon folds his arms, already on the defensive. “Of course, he’d be surprised. You just barge in here without any warning first! I nearly fainted myself.”
That’s sweet. Fuck, that’s so sweet. Jungkook’s not sure what to do, except gain his bearings as fast as he can, to minimize embarrassing his host. “I’m fine. I just got dizzy for a minute there.”
Yoongi smiles wide with understanding, “Don’t worry about it, kid. A lot of my fans have intense reactions when they see me.”
Jungkook has no idea what the rapper is doing here, or what’s even remotely going on. Namjoon stands in between them as a buffer. “This is my brother, Jimin. Yoongi is his husband. He has a special pass to be here as long as Jimin is with him.”
“Honestly,” Jimin hisses. “You gave me so much grief for marrying a human, and here you are courting a newborn.”
“Why are you here?” Namjoon says pointedly.
“It’s the Vernal Equinox soon,” Jimin answers. “Night and day in perfect balance. We’re hosting a party as is tradition.”
“I’m busy,” Namjoon hisses.
“Come on, man,” Yoongi says. “How about you? Jungkook, do you want to come? I’ll be there. We could talk about my music. You can pick my brain.”
Jungkook would love that, but it looks like Namjoon’s not going, and he’s not sure what the protocol is.
“I-I wouldn’t know what to wear. Last time I showed up in black and everyone was in red.”
“Oh, look,” Jimin says. “He wants to. You can tell. Don’t punish the baby bunny like this. Come and have fun, and stop being a tree in the mud.”
“That doesn’t even make sense,” Namjoon snaps. “Trees love mud.”
Jungkook does his best to hide his disappointment, making the following unbelievable statement. “I don’t even like parties.”
“He’s so painfully cute,” Jimin comments. “I could faint.”
Namjoon relents. “Okay, fine. We’ll go. Now get out of my house.”
Jimin smiles, putting on his gloves, and the rest of his protection. Yoongi does the same, opening his large black umbrella. The two strange men leave the way they came, the air tense in their absence.
“So,” Jungkook offers. “They seem nice.”
“They usually are,” Joon says. “It’s just that the Equinox isn’t really a party. It’s more like a ball.”
Jungkook follows as best he can, wondering what he’s roped them both into. “Like Cinderella.”
The King takes a few seconds before the human fairy tale registers. “Yes, exactly. The purpose of the Vernal Equinox is so that I can find a husband or wife. It will be filled with suitors, trying for my affections.”
Jungkook doesn’t like the sound of that at all. “Oh.”
“It’s never worked before,” Namjoon says earnestly. “I’ve never been interested in any of the suitors, and definitely not now.”
“So you’re not interested in anyone then,” Jungkook says sullenly. He’d been reading all the signs wrong. He feels foolish now. Also, he fainted, and that was embarrassing.
“Kookie,” Namjoon whispers. “I’m interested in you.”
Jungkook’s heart flutters as the King cups his chin, looking deep into his eyes.
“Would you go to the ball with me,” he asks, “as my date?”
Jungkoook never thought he’d hear a sentence such as this, and he’s never been more ready to agree.
“Yes, I’d love too.”
“Perfect,” Namjoon says. “I have the perfect outfit for you. Let’s get you out of those clothes.”
Are you realizing that this is crack just now?
Chapter 3: That One Time I Lost A Shoe
Warning: Some Angst
Also Vhope Cameo to be expanded upon.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Even with assurance from Namjoon that everyone will be wearing something like it, Jungkook’s still nervous. His outfit consists of a white suit with gold trim, a phantom of the opera mask, and cream alligator shoes.
The worst thing about it is that Jungkook doesn’t have anyone to ask. When he became a vampire, he lost all of his friends and he’s only allowed to contact his human family once a month via letter.
Jungkook sighs, looking at his phone, where there are only three numbers, Namjoon, Jimin, and Yoongi. He obviously can’t ask Namjoon and he nearly passes out every time he talks to Yoongi.
Jungkook settles, dialing the last number, and Jimin answers after the third ring.
“Hello,” a soft voice hums, out of breath.
“Hey,” Jungkook replies. “Do you remember me?”
Jimin laughs. “Yes, I do. You’re that delicate newborn my brother is so smitten with.”
“About your party,” Jungkook trudges on. “Namjoon lent me this outfit but I think it’s a little showy.”
“You are adorable,” Jimin comments. “I want to eat you all up.”
“Hey,” Yoongi speaks, sounding distant, but Jungkook’s vampire ears pick it up. “I’m the only one you’re allowed to eat, brat.”
Jungkook flushes. “Can I send you a picture? Are you busy?”
“No, I was simply finishing dinner,” Jimin answers.
Jungkook quickly snaps a picture of the outfit, laid flat on his bed, and sends it. “Did you get it?”
“M-My brother wants you to wear this?” Jimin’s voice is dead serious mixed with shock.
“It knew it was too much,” Jungkook whines. “The party is tomorrow. I don’t have time to get something else.”
“Did I miss something?” Jimin asks. “Did my brother propose to you?”
Jungkook chokes on nothing, legs feeling like jelly. “No! What?”
“Everyone wears black to the Equinox, even the Princes. The only people who wear white are the King and the King’s spouse.”
“He only asked if I would go as his date,” Jungkook says weakly. “Ah, fuck.”
“Well, with my brother, he might as well be asking you to be with him forever and all time,” Jimin says pointedly. “My brother hasn’t shown interest in a mate in over a hundred years. Why you?”
Jungkook wonders the same thing.
“Are you some sort of, how do you say, a ‘phenomenal dick sucker’?” Jimin asks, losing his old vampire cadence for a moment.
“Hey,” Yoongi’s voice comes through again, agitated. “I should be the only phenomenal dick sucker you talk to!”
“We haven’t even kissed yet,” Jungkook says, stomach in knots. “What should I do?”
Jimin sighs, a rush of static coming through the reciever. “If it were me, I’d wear black. If you put on that suit, then you’re a target. Everyone will want to be your best friend, claw your eyes out, or both. I don’t want any harm to befall you.”
“But if I show up in black, that will hurt Namjoon’s feelings,” Jungkook manages.
There’s a silence that stretches on for a whole minute.
“Jimin, are you still there?” Jungkook asks.
“Yeah,” Jimin answers, albeit a little raw. “You’re concerned about my brother; that’s really sweet. You’re really good for him, you know? I always wanted a brother-in-law like you.”
Jungkook’s heart sputters erratically. “I told you, he didn’t ask me to marry him. We haven’t even kissed yet!”
“Wear the white,” Jimin says finally. “It’ll look good on you. If anyone gives you trouble, alert me and I’ll escort them from the building.”
“That’s code for knocking them the fuck out,” Yoongi clarifies.
Jungkook manages a smile. “Thank you, Jimin.”
“Call me hyung,” Jimin replies.
“Thank you, hyung.”
Jungkook drinks a unit of blood to calm down before making his way to Jimin’s property, which he learns is on the outskirts of the vampire community. It’s a fucking, actual, factual castle, a mote surrounding it, and a draw bridge that comes down as he passes the gate.
He parks his car, when he notices someone outside, trimming the hedges. It’s Yoongi, clipping growths off the top of some bushes by the window, wearing a pinstripe pajama ensemble.
“Yoongi-hyung?” Jungkook manages, feeling a little dizzy.
The rapper looks up, waving at him, brandishing his hedge clippers. “Hey, Kookie.”
Jungkook stops short of the door. “What are you doing out here? I thought the party started at six.”
It’s 6:00 PM on the dot.
“No one shows up on time,” Yoongi explains. “The guests don’t arrive until eight or nine.”
Jungkook reminds himself for the hundredth time that Yoongi is just a regular man. He doesn’t like people fawning and fanboying over him.
“Should I come back later?” Jungkook offers.
“Ah, no,” Yoongi says, placing the scissors down. “I was just about done anyway. Why don’t you come in for a beer?”
“Can vampires drink beer?” Jungkook wonders aloud.
“Sure,” Yoongi says. “It doesn’t do anything for you though. Come in and take a load off.”
The inside of the castle is stunning, what Jungkook had expected, huge living area, decorated impeccably equally in black and white.
“Jimin’s upstairs, getting ready,” Yoongi explains.
“What about you?” Jungkook asks.
Yoongi shrugs, leading them into a surgically clean kitchen with two whole fridges. “I’m just gonna throw on a suit, won’t take that long.”
The man cracks open two light beers and hands one to Jungkook, who politely takes a sip.
“So, how’d you two meet?” Yoongi asks, leaning against the counter, feigning ease.
Jungkook shrugs. “I didn’t know he was a King, sat next to him, and I kinda poked his face. You know, the dimple he has, and instead of killing me, he invited me over.”
Yoongi smiles. “Ah, the tree doesn’t fall far from the apple then—”
Before Jungkook can protest or correct, the doorbell rings.
“I thought you said everyone comes late,” Jungkook repeats.
“They do,” Yoongi hums, crossing the living room and answering the door.
There are two guests, masks over their faces, wearing twin outfits, long black robes.
“Ah, it’s just you guys,” Yoongi says, “Come in.”
They shed their clothes, revealing suits bedazzled with onyx gems.
Yoongi turns to Jungkook. “These are the other two Princes, Taehyung and Hoseok.”
The pair take off their masks, revealing two of the most stunning faces that Jungkook’s ever seen.
“Is this the newborn?” Taehyung asks curtly before Hoseok nudges his arm. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Jungkook shakes their hands, getting a bit flustered.
“He came early,” Yoongi explains. “The invitation said six, and he actually came at six.”
Hoseok presses a hand to chest. “That’s precious. We need to give him a grand entrance tonight.”
Yoongi tilts his head. “You think?”
Taehyung nods. “I’ll work the lights, you do the music.”
“Really, that’s—” Jungkook protests.
“Nonsense,” Hoseok chirps. “We’re going to make you the toast of the ball.”
Jungkook waits pensively in the shadows as they introduce vampires into the ballroom. His phone is dead, and he hasn’t been able to contact Namjoon. But Jimin is adamant that Jungkook should wait to be the last introduced, even after the King, as a surprise.
“Here’s my beloved,” Jimin continues. “Prince Min Yoongi, twenty-five years old, lauded musical genius, and recipient of over one hundred prestigious awards.”
Yoongi waves as he descends the staircase, looking up at Jungkook and winking before disappearing into the crowd.
From where Jungkook is, he can see Namjoon, who’s up next, checking his phone, looking more and more heartbroken as the time passes. How Jungkook aches to go to him.
“And here’s our King,” Jimin announces, “Kim Namjoon, born in the previous millennia, and has ruled as our beloved monarch for nearly five hundred years.”
The King slowly descends the staircase to blistering applause. He’s stunning, wearing a white suit and a perfect mirrored mask to Jungkook’s. When he reaches the bottom, his face curls in confusion as the spotlight leaves him.
“And finally, my honored guest,” Jimin continues. “Jeon Jungkook, twenty-three days old, and a gifted music studies student at the local college..”
Jungkook rushes from the balcony, circumventing the distance with ease. Yoongi plays music for his grand entrance, but Jungkook’s distracted, rushing down the steps and nearly tripping into Namjoon’s arms.
“I’m so sorry,” Jungkook whispers. “Jimin told me to wait so we could surprise you. But I-”
Namjoon wraps his arms tightly around the younger, holding him close before pressing a kiss to his forehead. He sounds so relieved. “You’re here.”
The noise in the room quiets to a hushed awe.
Jungkook buries his face in Namjoon’s ample chest. “I’m sorry.”
The King smiles at him, eyes brimming with tears. “I went to your house to pick you up, and you weren’t there. I thought maybe you changed your mind. But it doesn’t matter now, you’re here.”
The way that Namjoon looks at him, it makes him feel like he’s the only person in the room. The King leads him onto the dance floor.
Faintly, Jungkook hears Jimin announce, “-the first dance.”
“You look so beautiful tonight,” Namjoon whispers in his ear, sending a shock of electricity down his spine.
“You too,” Jungkook manages. “Listen, Jimin told me what these outfits mean. And I-”
Namjoon flushes. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to blindside you, Kookie. Would you believe me if I said that you make me feel shy and nervous?”
Jungkook feels lighter than air, stomach all fizzy. He presses their foreheads together. “It’s okay, hyung. I knew and I wore it anyway.”
Namjoon nods. “I fully intend to take it slow, Jungkook. I want to court you for a long, long time and win your affections the hard way. This is simply for everyone else, so they all know what my intention is.”
The song ends and the two stop spinning. Jungkook’s very light headed. He thinks he might pass out again, and that’d be really embarrassing. “I have to go to the bathroom, can you wait for me?”
Namjoon gently caresses his cheek before letting go. “Always.”
Jungkook’s the kind of guy who’s practiced walking in straight lines while drunk. He steps steadily to the restroom, not giving away the state of his mind. Once he reaches the room, he hunches over the sink and splashes some cold water on his face, take a deep breath.
But that’s when someone enters.
“Sorry, could you give me a minute?” Jungkook asks. “I’ll be right out.”
The invading vampire looks pissed and makes no move to leave. He has long blond hair, inky black eyes, filled with disgust.
“Ummm, I said I’ll just-” Jungkook begins again.
“You’re not worthy of our King,” the vampire hisses. “How dare you, a newborn, even think of touching him? You are scum, just his plaything for the moment until he’s bored of you.”
Jungkook’s frightened. He used to be pretty scrappy as a human, but he’s pretty sure this vampire could pulverize him.
“Jimin marrying Agust D was bad enough,” the man continues, “But at least that human had some wealth and fame. What do you do successfully?”
Jungkook’s hurt. In the back of his head, he knows he’s not good enough for Namjoon. Tears prickle in his eyes. “I’ll just be a minute, I—” he repeats uselessly.
The door explodes open, Namjoon rushing forward like an apparition, pinning the man against the wall by his neck. “You forget yourself, Ivan.”
Namjoon looks furious, red ringing his eyes.
The blond vampire struggles to breathe, clutching at his throat. “M-My King.”
“You’re not welcome here anymore,” Namjoon hisses, letting the man go, who promptly drops to his knees. “Never show your face to me again.”
Ivan makes a move to leave, only the King stops him. “Apologize first, then you may remove yourself.”
Ivan turns to Jungkook, bowing his head. “I-I’m sorry.” and then he’s gone, fleeing the scene of the crime, leaving the two of them alone.
Namjoon’s shoulders drop as he takes a deep breath. “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?”
Jungkook wishes he could snap out of it but he’s always been very susceptible to words. He’s hurt, not where someone can patch him up with a bandaid. “I’m—’
The younger runs for it, shoving past Namjoon and blowing through the back exit. The cool night air hits his face, making him feel a little better. Jungkook runs like the wind, jumping the moat, and speeding through miles of thick pine trees.
And when he becomes hopelessly lost, Jungkook settles on a rock, curling up with his face in his knees. He realizes that one of his shoes is missing, probably having flown off because of the superhuman speeds.
Then he cries silently.
He doesn’t know exactly how long he’s there when he hears a rustling in the bushes. He tenses, fangs coming out in agitation, claws shooting from his nail beds.
But it’s only Namjoon, looking at him warily, holding the shoe that Jungkook is missing. “D-Don’t run. It’s me. I won’t hurt you, Kookie.”
The King takes slow steps towards him, knowing exactly where to go as to not spook him. “Easy, I only want to return your shoe. You’re alright.”
Jungkook’s emotions well over and he begins to sob. “I’m not good enough for you. He was right.”
Namjoon kneels at his feet, “Don’t heed him. You’re who I want to be with. I choose you. What they value, it means nothing to me. You see me as I truly am.”
Jungkook takes a shaky breath, licking at his tears, pouting. “My foot is cold.”
The King gently dusts it off, which is difficult because it’s caked with mud. But eventually, it’s clean. Then he puts Jungkook’s shoe back on, tying the laces tight.
“There,” Namjoon says. “Better?”
Jungkook cups the King’s face, leaning down and capturing the man’s lips. Namjoon’s breathing hitches before he rises up to meet him, soft and smooth and yielding.
The King’s strong, lifting Jungkook up. The younger is taken by surprise, unwilling to break their connection, he hops up, wrapping his legs around Namjoon’s torso. When they finally do pull away, Jungkook’s gasping for air. The King’s eyes look raw, glowing completely silver.
“N-Not yet, Kookie,” he manages, voice thick with want. “Not here.”
Jungkook takes a steadying breath, getting back on his feet. “We should go. Your brothers will be worried.”
Namjoon nods, taking Jungkook’s hand, pressing a kiss to his palm, before leading him back. The two disappear through the thicket, washed in pale moonlight.
:') they kissed.

Chapter 4: Gimme that Sweet Vitamin D
THERE IS SOME ANGST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! READ WITH CAUTION
ALSO LOTS OF BLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOD!!!!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
They make it back to Namjoon’s house right before sun up, utterly exhausted. Jungkook flops on the couch with a satisfied sigh. His feet are tired, and his muscles ache. They’d danced the entire night, and Jungkook’s never been quite this happy. He still feels like he’s floating.
Namjoon sits beside him, smiling softly, cheek puckering. He places his hands neatly on his lap, spine straight. “Did you enjoy yourself, Kookie?”
Jungkook laughs, sounding breathless. “I did! I had so much fun, hyung. How about you?”
Namjoon nods, reaching out, running a hand through Jungkook’s hair. “I found the evening quite enjoyable.”
Jungkook nuzzles against Namjoon’s hand, scalp tingling with pleasure.
“Do you want to shower before we retire to bed?” Namjoon asks, sending a wave of heat into Jungkook’s gut.
“Bed?” Jungkook repeats. “Together?”
Namjoon sighs. “If you prefer, there’s a guest bedroom.”
Jungkook’s way too nervous to sleep in the same bed as Namjoon, or even look at Namjoon while he’s sleeping in a bed by himself. He’s glad that the King is so accommodating.
“Please?” Jungkook squeaks. “Sorry.”
Namjoon smiles at him. “There’s nothing to apologize for. Come on, I’ll show you where you’ll be staying.”
The King leads Jungkook to the second floor, pushing a door open, the first one in the hallway. It’s lavish, nicer than Namjoon’s room, decorated with gold and velvet. “Jimin occasionally stays here for family meetings. That’s why it’s so different from the rest of the house.”
Jungkook nods numbly.
“The bathroom is through there,” Namjoon says. “If you need anything at all, please, don’t hesitate.”
“Okay,” Jungkook manages. “T-Thank you.”
Namjoon lingers for a moment, “Sweet dreams, Kookie,” before gliding off, leaving the newborn to his own devices.
After a cool bath, feeling refreshed, changed into sleep clothes that are just a touch small on him, Jungkook wiggles into bed. He pulls the covers over his head, making a small happy noise. He’s so fucking ecstatic, kicking his feet, before settling in the bed. He laughs to himself, half-mad and not caring at all.
He’s in lo—
There’s a knock at the door.
“Y-Yes?” Jungkook sputters, cheeks flushing.
“I heard a noise,” Namjoon answers from the other side. “Are you alright? May I come in?”
“I-I’m okay,” Jungkook replies. “You can come in, hyung.”
Namjoon opens the door, dressed in a large, soft hoodie, and Ryan slippers. He looks much more like himself now than he did at the party, and Jungkook thinks he prefers this.
“I apologize for the intrusion,” the King huffs. “I-I was worried.”
Jungkook sits up, patting the bed, gesturing for Namjoon to sit down. “I didn’t realize your ears were so sensitive. I’ll be quiet. I’m sorry.”
The King deflates, shoulder slumping, his hair is a little damp, and wildly sticking about. Jungkook has a strong urge to run his fingers through, but he stops himself.
“If I could just watch you fall asleep, then I can convince myself that you’re safe and sound. Then I’ll go to bed,” Namjoon gushes. “Is that alright?”
Jungkook doesn’t answer. He knows that something like that doesn’t just come from nowhere. The King’s lost someone, probably when he wasn’t watching, and he carries it with him.
“Stay,” Jungkook says, surprising himself. He pulls open the covers and gestures the King the join him.
Namjoon doesn’t move from where he is, looking at that spot longingly, wavering softly. “I don’t want to intrude. I’ll go.”
Jungkook reaches forward, catching Namjoon’s sleeve. They lock eyes, moved by a connection stronger than they can even begin to understand.
Namjoon crawls into the spot, and Jungkook throws the covers over them both, keeping them nice and warm. While it’s important for humans to stay warm, it’s doubly important for vampires, since they produce so much less body heat.
“Good night,” Jungkook hums, lying beside the man, but not daring to touch.
Namjoon swallows audibly. “I want you to know that I’m a gentleman of the highest caliber. I won’t try anything unbecoming of me. I really am just concerned for you.”
Jungkook smiles. “I know. Now, let’s get some rest, My King.”
Namjoon flushes, smiling peacefully, closing his eyes. “Sweet dreams.”
Jungkook doesn’t know how long he sleeps for, but when he wakes, it’s dark. Immediately, he feels something is wrong. He’s warm, too warm. His skin is sticky with sweat. His whole body aches.
“H-Hyung?” Jungkook manages, hot air from his lungs stripping his tongue of moisture.
There’s movement beside him, and then the feeling of cool hands on his forehead. “You’re burning.”
“I-I don’t feel so good,” Jungkook replies weakly, his voice cracking.
“Wait here,” Namjoon says.
The King’s only gone for thirty seconds, blurring out of the room and reappearing with a first aid kit, made specifically for their kind.
Jungkook manages a small, “S-So thirsty.”
“Open your mouth,” the King commands.
Jungkook’s in no position to refuse, expecting Namjoon to pour blood straight into his mouth, instead, he tastes cool metal.
“You have a fever of 29.4 C,” Namjoon says, pulling the thing out. “I’ll get you a white blood cell packet.”
The King helps Jungkook sit up, the latter grimacing in protest. When Namjoon does another disappearing act, he comes back with a couple of Vitamin D tablets, and a white-blood-cell, plasma cocktail to wash it down with.
“Drink,” Namjoon orders, pressing the glass to Jungkook’s lips, along with the pills. Jungkook does as he told, feeling a little better once the blood is in his system.
The King helps him back down, tucking him in again. “Better?”
Jungkook nods, keeping his eyes closed so that the nausea doesn’t hit him. “I’m sorry I’m so delicate. I didn’t know vampires got sick.”
Namjoon plays with his hair, his cool fingertips a godsend. “Bacteria isn’t harmful to us, but viruses are. The Ball must have drained you more then you let on, leaving your immune system weak. I’ll take care of you, Kookie. For now, rest, my love—”
Jungkook’s not sure if he heard that last part right or if he simply imagined it. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Last night was magical, even with that stupid-butt-face Ivan.”
Namjoon chuckles, the timbre soothing and deep. “You say things that make my heart race. And I promise I won’t let your hand go next time. I will protect you. These vampires from the newer factions are dangerously overzealous.”
Jungkook’s mind is shutting off.
“Can you s-stay with me?” he slurs, taking hold of Namjoon’s arm. “Stay—”
He hears Namjoon’s answer distantly, but he thinks he must have imagined it again, words too soft for their budding relationship.
When Jungkook wakes again, he’s feeling much better, a cool washcloth on his forehead, and soft, dawn light streaming through the window. Namjoon is hovering above him, dark circles under his eyes, strange on his usually flawless face.
He’d stayed up all night to take care of the boy, and that does things to a person, emotional things.
“Good morning,” the King hums. “Your fever’s broken. Are you thirsty?”
Jungkook’s more tired than dehydrated. “I’m okay. You should get some rest. I’m sorry you had to stay up to take care of me.”
Namjoon shrugs, a smile blooming on his face. “It was my pleasure. I couldn’t sleep anyway, knowing you were ill.”
The newborn sits up, cheeks flush. The room spins for a moment before he gains his bearings. Jungkook presses a finger to his temple to help him focus. “I’m all better now. Get some rest.”
Namjoon shakes his head. “I don’t wish to sleep and do not tire easily. With old blood like mine, I can go weeks without resting.”
Jungkook sighs. “Sit down, at least. I don’t you wearing yourself out. What if you get sick?”
Namjoon licks his full lips. “Would you take care of me if I did?”
Jungkook’s heart skips a beat. He would. He definitely would. “T-That would require us not being sick at the same time.”
Namjoon smiles. “That sounds like a confirmation to me, Kookie.”
“Yes,” Jungkook says. “I’d probably be worse than you are now, check your temperature with forehead kisses.”
Namjoon takes a seat, cheeks burning red. He fiddles with his hands nervously. “You’re sweet.”
The silence that follows hangs heavy. Neither of them has mentioned it yet, whisked away and distracted by other matters. But now, it’s the only thing on Jungkook’s mind.
And while Jungkook has kissed approximately six and a half people before, Namjoon’s kiss is right at the top.
“Listen,” Namjoon begins, not meeting his eyes, but somehow reading his mind. “We don’t have to go any further. I’d just saved you, and you were mixed up in your emotions. Perhaps you simply felt grateful. I can wait—”
Jungkook shoots up, cupping the King’s face and kissing him again. Fire churns in the pit of his stomach. He is urgent, wondering if the King knows how he really feels, bordering on impatient.
He wants him.
Namjoon’s pulls away for a fraction, his eyes glowing bright silver, boiling over ravenously.
“I-I have my answer then,” he whispers breathlessly.
“I like you,” Jungkook says. “I do want to take things slow, but I definitely don’t regret kissing you. In fact, kissing is on the menu from now on.”
Namjoon’s eyebrow quirks up. “The menu?”
Jungkook’s jaw aches. He doesn’t understand it, but there’s a spot on Namjoon’s neck that he’d love to bite down on. A fat pang of arousal hits his gut as he shuffles away, ignoring the overwhelming desire to drink.
“Y-You know what I mean,” Jungkook whispers.
Namjoon’s gaze flickers over the younger’s neckline. “That, I do.”
The room grows thick with tension, heavy and hot as Namjoon continues to look at him with those burning sultry eyes.
“Y-You know your eyes glow silver sometimes,” Jungkook says, trying to fill the silence. “What’s that about?”
Namjoon leans back, laughing softly. “You should take a look in the mirror.”
Jungkook scans the room. There’s a large vanity, wood trimmed with gold, and all the fixings. The young vampire peers into it, startled by his own reflection.
His eyes are silver all the way through, not just the rings but all the way to the pupil. “Wh-What is it?”
Namjoon walks up behind him, joining him in the reflection, a knowing smile. “Vampires, are in many respects, creatures of deceit. But there are also things we can not hide. The silver, it forms when we desire to see better, more of what is in front of us. The color only happens when we see something we covet, something we want desperately.”
Jungkook’s utterly mesmerized, trapped in Namjoon’s silvery gaze in the reflective glass. “Y-You’re eyes do that a lot when you look at me.”
Namjoon smiles. “I have lived a millennium, wanting for nothing. But now, here you are, the culmination of all my unfulfilled longings, and you don’t even know, do you?”
Jungkook sucks in a breath, shaking himself out of the hypnotic state. “W-We should both drink something. Come on.”
And just like that, Namjoon’s intensity recedes. He offers Jungkook his hand, and they both head downstairs to the kitchen. The King pours two portions into martini glasses and gives one to Jungkook.
“Cheers,” Namjoon hums. “To us.”
Jungkook repeats it. “To us.”
Then they both down their drinks.
Namjoon licks his lips, apparently happy with the taste. He looks over at Jungkook, who blanches.
There’s something wrong. Jungkook’s stomach burns, sloshing around with acid. “Wait—”
The blood comes back up, splattering over the clean tiles. Jungkook bends over, but his shirt is already ruined, over in blood, much darker in color than when it’d gone down.
“Kookie?” Namjoon shouts. “What’s wrong?”
Jungkook’s head is spinning as he misses the counter and drops to the ground. But somehow, the King manages to catch him. “Talk to me.”
“M-My stomach,” Jungkook says, followed by wet, productive coughs, more blood dribbling down his chin. “H-Hurts.”
“You’re—” Namjoon begins, swallowing his emotions. “You’re not well. You need blood.”
But isn’t that the problem?
“You need vampire blood, from your sire,” the King continues. “Give me your phone, Kookie.”
“I-I don’t have his number,” Jungkook manages. In fact, he has no idea where his sire is.
“A name,” Namjoon presses. “I’ll find them for you.”
Jungkook’s about to faint again. “K-Kim Seokjin.”
The King’s eyes darken, all the blood draining from his face, it's as if the name were a disease. “Jin, the Usurper.”
Jungkook’s vision fades to black.

Jungkook’s horizontal on the couch. The newborn’s stomach is still burning, but he’s stopped throwing up. He’s switched to capfuls of bitter, herbal medicine that barely takes the edge off. Namjoon is pacing the floor in front of him, nearly wearing a hole in the carpet.
“Just stay awake, Kookie,” Namjoon mutters. “Help is on the way.”
Jungkook’s muscles feel like jelly, he can barely move. It takes a tremendous effort just to turn his head.
“C-Can-” Jungkook begins before his voice gives out.
Namjoon stops pacing, rushing towards him, taking a knee so that they’re eye level. “What is it, Kookie? Speak to me.”
The King’s patient, waiting for Jungkook to gather his wits.
“Can you hold my hand?” Jungkook whispers.
Namjoon blushes, the tips of ears turning red. He takes Jungkook’s hand gently, skin ice cold to Jungkook’s burning hot. “Yeah.”
The King’s cheeks are wet. He’s crying quiet tears that he pays no mind to.
“I’ll be okay,” Jungkook says, faking a toothy, half-delirious smile. “You don’t have to cry like a baby over it.”
Namjoon wipes at his face, before pouting. “W-Who’s crying, Jeon Jungkook? You’re seeing things.”
Jungkook manages a laugh, though it sounds more like a wheeze.
Damn, how badly he’d like to sleep, rest his eyes for a few minutes.
“No,” Namjoon shouts, shocking him back to life. “Keep fighting—”
And before their drama, ripped from the pages of a romance novel, can continue, the doorbell rings.
Namjoon’s eyes darken. “He’s here.”
From Jungkook’s vantage point, he sees Namjoon answering the door. The man on the other side is terrifyingly handsome, features perfectly symmetrical as if carved from stone. His shoulders are set wide, body frame pleasing to the eye, as he stands there, arm braced against the frame.
It’s Kim Seokjin.
“Usurper,” Namjoon greets him. “It took you fucking long enough.”
Jin waltzes into the living room. “Of course, it did. I was in the fucking mountains, enjoying my banishment when you summoned me back. I remember you told me and I quote, ‘I’ll kill you if I ever see your face again.’ What could be so important that you—”
That’s when Jin spots Jungkook on the couch, on the verge of death.
“Jungkook!” The man rushes towards him. “What have you done to him? You scallywag, you scoundrel.”
Jin lifts Jungkook into his lap, brushing the hair out of his eyes. He’s worried, biting his lip.
“At first, I assumed he was sick, but now I’m thinking he was poisoned,” Namjoon explains.
Seokjin’s eyes go wide. “You poisoned him! How could you!”
Namjoon sighs. “It wasn’t me. Someone at the ball must have. Make haste, give him some of your blood.”
Jin pulls Jungkook into a more scandalous position, cradling his body as if he were an infant. “I was going to do it anyway. You don’t have to keep barking orders, you tyrant.” He presses his wrist against Jungkook’s mouth, and his voice turns sweeter. “Poor baby. Quickly, be a good boy and bite down.”
Jungkook’s jaw aches. His fangs shoot out and he does as he’s told, sweet blood filling his mouth. It’s the best he’s ever tasted, like drinking from the most pristine lake in the Garden of Eden.
“There,” Jin coos. “Good boy. Drink up, you’re going to be okay.”
Steadily, Jungkook’s strength returns. Whatever toxin is in his body is expelled out by his sire’s blood.
“I was wondering what kind of vampire would leave a newborn to fend for them self,” Namjoon says blackly. “Of course, it would be you.”
Jin narrows his eyes. “Do you remember the part where you banished me? I wanted Jungkook to fit in, make some friends. That would’ve never happened if he was associated with me.”
Jungkook can sit up on his own now, clinging to Jin’s arm, sucking up all that wonderful elixir.
“But it doesn’t matter now,” Jin says, voice soft again. “We’ve been found out. You should come with me, boy. I’ll take care of you. Where do you want to go? The whole world is our playground. It’s nice in France this time of year—”
Namjoon takes one of Jungkook’s hands. “He’s not going anywhere with you. He’s staying here with me.”
Jin growls, eyes turning red, flashing his fangs. “You can’t take care of him. You’ve proven that much. I don’t want to know why a newborn would even warrant getting poisoned. I just know it has to do with you!”
The King’s grip loosens and he backs away shamefully. “I-I give him a white suit to wear at the Vernal Equinox.”
Jin takes a split second to process what that means. “You impulsive fool. This is all your fault. You made him a target and then failed to protect him. Didn’t his death teach you anything?”
Namjoon’s brows are pinched together, he points a finger into Jin’s chest. “How dare you speak to me in that manner! I am your King.”
“Well, I didn’t vote for you,” Jin hisses. “Come on, Kookie, we’re leaving.”
As Jungkook is still attached to Jin’s arm, he’s pulled up along with him. But he’s just about had his fill, detaching so he can speak. “W-Wait.”
Namjoon smiles triumphantly. “See, he wants to stay with me.”
Jin frowns, turning to Jungkook. “Whatever he’s blackmailing you with, you don’t have to be afraid. I’ll protect you. I’m the only vampire on this side of the hemisphere that can best Namjoon in a fight.”
The King clicks his teeth and folds his arms, but he doesn't protest.
Which means it’s probably true.
“I-” Jungkook stutters.
While he has feelings for Namjoon, he’s also loyal to Seokjin. The latter saved his life. If not for him, he’d still be in that hospital on life support, or dead.
Namjoon’s eyes flicker with hurt when he realizes that Jungkook is actually considering it. “Kookie?”
“He saved my life,” Jungkook explains.
Namjoon’s nose flairs as he cuts Jin with a look. “It was probably for his own gain somehow. He’s not a good man, Kookie. He wanted to take my throne from me! He tried to kill me!”
Jin throws his arms up into the air. “So what! Do you even want the throne? Are you sure you want to be King? Look at what you’re wearing-” Namjoon’s currently dressed in a white hoodie with a little, red cartoon crab in the center. “-You look like a fucking marine biologist or second-grade teacher. I was doing you a favor!”
“YOU ATTEMPTED TO MURDER ME,” Namjoon bellows at the top of his lungs.
Seokjin folds in on himself sheepishly. “S-Semantics. Did I beat you into a pulp? Yes. Did you die? No. Are you still alive? Yes.”
Jungkook raises a hand, heart beating madly in his chest. “Guys?”
They both settle down, a hairsbreadth from fighting one second, to complete calm. They both watch Jungkook eagerly, wanting to be the victor.
“I want to stay,” Jungkook says.
Namjoon whispers a small, triumphant, “Yes.”
Jin, on the other hand, looks like he wants to crawl into a hole.
“But I want Jin-hyung to stay too,” Jungkook continues.
Namjoon’s smile fades, as Jin’s appears. “Of course, I’ll stay. You want me to stay here, bunny? Daddy will stay.”
A shiver runs down Jungkook’s spine.
This is going to be a long, long night.
Jungkook’s back at his house. It’s weird. He was more comfortable at Namjoon’s. His own house almost feels like living in a hotel.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Jin asks as he unpacks his suitcase. It’s as if he doesn’t know what’s in there, and he’s a kid on Christmas day. It’s a lot of bright colors, a mint toned sweater, a plethora of skin care products. There’s watermelon lip balm, and those rejuvenating eye masks in the shape of kiwis.
Jungkook has so many questions.
Like is Jin really older and more powerful than Namjoon? Especially when his hair is tied up in a faux pony, and he’s wearing a very big, carefree smile.
“Why do you need this lime sugar scrub?” Jungkook asks off-handedly. “Our skin’s flawless.”
Jin laughs, playfully tapping Jungkook on the shoulder. “I see you’re a functionalist. Well, I’m a hedonist. Not everything needs to make sense, sometimes it just makes you feel good, and it smells nice.”
The older vampire throws a sheet mask at him. It’s one of the cucumber ones he used to enjoy when he was human. “Chop, chop, put it on and let’s relax. Let’s have a heart to heart with Daddy!”
“C-Can you not refer to yourself as d-dadd,” Jungkook can’t even say it.
Jin claps his hands together before drinking some blood from a martini glass, “Ahhh, refreshing.”
Jungkook’s face is super warm. Is he still sick? God, he hopes not.
“Alright, hyung’s fine too,” Jin relents. “You’re so cute and so fun to tease. Gah, I’m weak.”
“S-So, what do you want to talk about?” Jungkook asks, putting on the sheet mask for kicks. It is nice, the cooling feeling on his face, and the calming scent.
Jin winks at him. “Don’t play coy. There’s a certain dimpled monarch who’s fixated on you, and I want all the juicy details. What’s the sex like?”
Jungkook immediately puts his hands out in front of him, waving them about wildly about. “We-We’re not like that yet. We’ve only kissed five times, twice on the lips, once on the cheek, and on the forehead, and the hand.”
Jin laughs, pointing a finger at the younger. “You counted. You-You kept count?”
Yes, he did.
“N-No,” Jungkook squeaks, voice coming out an octave higher. “That was just an estimation.”
The newborn puts on his most serious face to cover his lie, blood rushing in his ears.
Jin simply rolls back, kicking his feet, peels of laughter escaping his mouth. “You’re so cute, Kookie! Ah, you’re precious.”
Jungkook swats at the man’s arm. “Stop it!”
Before Jin can respond, there’s tapping at the window, soft clinking. Someone’s tossing gravel at the panes.
“Ah fuck,” Jin hisses. “They know I’m here. Some asshole is trying to scratch our windows with these rocks.”
“Hyung, wait,” Jungkook says, reaching out. “That’s just what people do when they want to talk—”
Jin pulls open the window, shouting out into the street. “You have five seconds before I come down there and beat your— Namjoon? What are you doing down there?”
Jungkook’s skin is tingling, and quickly pulls off his sheet mask, so he’s presentable.”
“What are you doing in Jungkook’s bedroom, Usurper?” Namjoon hisses. “I wish to speak with him.”
“Jungkook can’t come to the window right now,” Jin teases. “He’s still getting dressed.” The elder vampire turns to no one in particular, putting on a show for the King. “Jungkook, love, I think your underwear is hanging off the ceiling fan—”
“You—” Namjoon shouts.
Jungkook scrambles to the window, pushing Jin out of the way. “He-He’s just kidding? We were only talking.”
Namjoon’s eyes soften as they land on him. He wrings his hands nervously. “Can we talk for a minute, Kookie? I won’t keep you for too long.”
Jin pouts. “As your vampire father, I forbid—”
Jungkook’s already running down the stairs to meet him, pulling open the door, jetting down the steps and straight into Namjoon’s arms, who hugs him tight. They’ve only been apart for a few hours, why does it feel like a year has passed.
“I missed you,” Jungkook peeps.
Namjoon buries his face in the younger’s hair, inhaling deeply. “Me too. I wanted to make sure you were alright before I went to sleep.”
Jungkook wriggles in deeper. “Thank you for being so understanding, I’ll explain—”
“You don’t have to explain anything. Your relationship and past with Jin isn’t my business,” Namjoon relents. “I was wrong to keep you here. You can go wherever you want, with whoever you want.”
“I-I want to be with you,” Jungkook whispers, these the secret yearnings of his heart.
Namjoon goes rigid, stealing a glance at his face. “M-Me too.”
And that’s when Jin sticks his head out the window again. “Jeon Jungkook, come back inside right this instant. It’s almost sunrise, you fools. I don’t want you getting any sunburn!”
Jungkook quickly sneaks a kiss to Namjoon’s cheek before running back inside the house, covering his face.
“Kim Namjoon, you twisted teen movie heartthrob, don’t come around here again,” Jin continues.
Namjoon, most unbecoming of a King, flashes Jin a middle finger, which incites the older even further.
“AND ANOTHER THING,” Jin shrieks, “TEAM KIM SEOKJIN ALWAYS WINS!”
