All good things comes to an end

Work Text:

Katsuki was rummaging in the fridge for a while now. He didn't know exactly what he searched. It was nearly empty, save for the few take outs getting old in the back and a lot of energy drinks. His focused eyes didn't seem phased by this fact despite years of fighting for healthy and homemade food.
Finally, he settled on two cans and put one on the bar while he opened the other. His eyes were untypically glued to the ground as if he was desperately avoiding something, someone. Yet his attitude showed off the same confidence he always held. Counting the tiles, his brow furrowed slowly until a constipated face took over. He looked back at the fridge, opening it once more to store the second can back in.
His gaze trailed on the wall as he walked to the couch, before he glued them to the TV.

"Forgot you couldn't drink that. I'll go search your food in a few don't worry."

A whine answered him, heavy and broken.

___

Katsuki's eyes were focused on the bright green orbs in front of him. It wasn't quite hard to see them despite the veil of darkness surrounding them. He took a habit to look at them straight for hours. When he couldn't sleep, it was all he felt like doing. It reminded him of all the care he held, all the mistakes he did. It reminded him he would never apologize enough for all his deeds, neither would he ever give up these vibrant eyes.
If anything was still alive within him, it was his orbs. Filled with remorse, sadness. It shined a sad light which Katsuki decided was a sign of life. If he could cry, then he was still there.
Never would he think to give up. Never would he think that, maybe, he would want to give up.
Katsuki's mouth found his beak and pressed gently before he snuggled on his chest.
Against him, he was shaking. Katsuki thought : he might be cold. I should give him the covers.
Against Katsuki's cheek, a warm liquid sliding down his neck. He thought : he might be crying. It's fine, I'm here with him.
He didn't see the strong arm struggling to stay up in the air to not crush his body. Nor did he saw these pointy teeth and strong jaw salivating at the defenseless hero in his arms.
Katsuki didn't see because he refused to open his eyes.

"HE'S FINE!"

Howls echoed throughout the whole wing of the hospital. What have been a classic collect of food at the beginning ended up in a group therapy with as a subject Ground Zero, infamous hero whose condition body and mind alike worsen with time. It all started the day when Livewire, the villain hero, disappeared. This day, havoc broke down and hero Deku was turned into a Nomu.
However, this day was month ago and Ground Zero found himself drowning more and more into madness. No one knew if it was a result from a too long exposition to a Nomu or if the love he gave to his colleague was strong enough to start to dissociate.
Around him, other well-known heroes. Some he used to work with a lot, Red Riot, Chargebolt (who's stare was empty, cheeks hollow) but also Uravity. She was probably the one who yelled the most since their encounter. She sounded furious, but also atrociously lonely.

"DON'T YOU SEE THAT YOUR STUPID BEHAVIOR IS CAUSING HARM TO EVERYONE HERE?!"

"FOR THE LAST TIME ROUND FACE I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE HIM AWAY TO SOME MAD SCIENTIST IN SEARCH FOR THE LAST PIECE OF MEAT!"

"MAD SCIENTISTS, AS YOU SAY, HEALED KAMINARI. WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY DID? CUT HIS THROAT TO EXPERIMENT?"

"He. Is. Fine."

Despite the hatred rumbling through his throat, no one really believed him. He was angry, there was no doubt about it. But his eyes didn't hold any spark. Sometimes, Red Riot even wondered if they were red and not just a weird mix of brown.
It was unsettling, how everyone was able to read the subtitles of his words. How he was simply pleading for their silence, their secrecy. Pleading for them to leave him alone with what remains of Deku.

A butcher knife was put on the table in front of him, a dark and scaled clawed hand on top of it. With care, it drew back. The knife was still vibrant on the table and Katsuki couldn't bring himself to tear his gaze off it. Because he knew what it implied. Deep down, he saw himself standing, knife in hand. He saw dark scales sliced everywhere. No sign of struggle, just long, deep gashes roaming through the shapeless body.
Scales were hard, harder than anything he knew. But he also knew how to slide a thin blade beneath the scales, to hit a softer skin. He knew that if he wanted, he could.
But he refused.
He tightens his hands to fist, snapping his head up. He was tense, gritted teeth, furrowed brows, eyes filled with tears. He was so, angry. He couldn't even think about how angry he was. He felt his stomach turn, his heart sore. He didn't even know if he would be able to talk if he tried.
He didn't understand. When did Deku thought he would agree? Did he promise such a thing ? He didn't remember, he didn't care. Truth was that promise or not, he couldn't. It was too much to ask from him. His throat felt sore, dry, as he tried to address the fool who tried to put an end to his life.
He didn't have the right to do so, nor ask Katsuki to, nor even think about death. They will find a solution. And if they didn't... Katsuki would deal with it. Deku didn't change. He was still Deku. Even without his voice, even without his freckles, even without his muttering and their bickering. Remained these orbs. Pretty, green orbs. And it was all Katsuki needed to keep fighting.

"Do you think I can't live with you Deku? Is that what you're implying?"

Tears rolled down Katsuki's hollowed cheeks.
Deku wondered how many times he will be able to maintain Katsuki alive.

All good things come to an end, all bad things will be past.
Today, under the arbor of a public garden lied a horrific scene.
A Hero lost his head despite all odds.
A disgusting and dangerous form held still in the alcove, a ring to its claws.
A young woman rewind the time.
The headless body got its head back, the creature melted into the soft features it once showed, they exchanged one last stare.
And everything disappeared.
