    Summary

Embarrassing as it is -- considering Lestrade actually is a decently intelligent and aware person despite what Sherlock insinuates at least twice a week -- he very simply does not notice someone standing in his doorway until the man clears his throat. "Detective Inspector Lestrade?" the man asks as though he already knows the answer.

"It's the name on the desk."

The man's mouth settles with a hint of a smile. It's a bit obnoxious really, the unconscious condescension he exudes; like he knows all the answers to questions Lestrade can't even begin to think of asking. "I'm here about Sherlock Holmes."

Wonderful characterization. The relationship develops slowly and steadily, and it never makes me go "no way would these guys say/do that". I stayed up way too late reading it because I was so absorbed by the story.

I've never imagined this pairing would work for me: but in a way, it works even better than Sherlock and John, because it is a story about more 'normal' people who are extraordinary in their own way; besides, you gave them perfect, perfect voices, Lestrade is - Lestrade from the series, but so much more 'Lestrade' than in these scant scenes we were offered in the series. Mycroft is the same, but so much more - human. I loved all these moments of silence, awkward and comfortable - in these comfortable scenes of silence you showed us people who can work together well. People who can just be together like that, without feeling any obligation to talk, have a real chance of creating a successful relationshp.
I loved the slow development and dialogs full of understatements. Every scene in this story is necessary and has its perfect place in the narrative - which is simply flawless.
