The Little Things

Chapter Text

Yosuke sighed deeply, pulling his knees up to his chest as he leaned back on the wall. He heard footsteps approaching him, but ignored them, burying his head in his knees. He had been so close to being able to leave Inaba and go to Tokyo. But he was short just a little of what he needed to be there efficiently.

The teen and his parents had came to an agreement, that he could go to Tokyo if he either A. Got accepted into a college there or B. Saved up enough money to live a stable life on his own until he could get a new job in the city. College was a reach, since his grades were terrible his first and second year, he still tried to get into one though. He starting studying as much as he could, brought up his grades some, and started passing test a lot better than he had been before. He crammed and studied for exams and did all his homework in advance if he had the chance. Yosuke had guessed that it wasn’t going to be enough, so he took up as much work as he could at Junes, no longer spending money on things he knew he didn’t need, and saving up the majority of his paycheck. Hell sometimes even Teddie came over to work and handed over his paycheck to Yosuke once or twice cause he needed the money more than the bear did.

“Hey, Yosuke.”

He groaned softly, recognizing the voice immediately, and not wanting to lift his head up to face the most probably bilittlement he would face from Chie. She gently nudged him with her foot, attempting to get his attention.

“Yosuke.”

“I’m not in the mood to talk to you right now Chie…”

His speech was muffled, in result of his face being hidden in his knees.

“Look I’m not here to make fun of you, I’m here to help you. You were short of what your parents said you needed to move to Tokyo with Yu, right?”

He didn’t say anything, just nodded in response to her question.

“Well then… here.”

Chie nudged him again, and he finally looked up, seeing she was holding out a piece of paper. Hesitantly he grabbed it, and upon looking at it he realized that it wasn’t just a piece of paper, it was a check.

“What…?”

“I owe you. It’s obviously not everything I owe you, but it’s a start and it’s enough to get you to Tokyo with what you already have I’m pretty sure.”

Yosuke blinked rapidly and obviously confused.

“Why are you paying me back…? You’ve never even shown planning to do it before..”

“It doesn’t matter, just accept it and go rub in your parent’s face that you reached the near impossible goal they set for you to go to Tokyo, dork.”
