Ever since she was younger, he'd always told her that family wasn't just made up of blood. It was what she made it.
Being a close friend to Mia meant she was around Dominic Toretto just as much as she was around Mia. It also helped that her brother, Vince, was a part of Dom's team too. And because of that, she was always welcome at Dom's house.
By the time Venus reached 16, she was helping out in Dom's garage and with Mia at the family store.
It was on her 16th birthday that Dom picked her up from her school early, claiming to have a surprise waiting for her that he couldn't wait to give her.
You see, he'd seen her staring at an ad in the paper for an older car up for sale. Even heard her telling Mia at the store that as soon as she saved up enough from helping her with the shop, she'd go out and buy it from the person selling the car. That same night, Dom had picked up the ad to see that it was on a rundown 1969 Boss Mustang. After Mia had gone to bed, and Venus had gone home with Vince, Dom got in his car and drove to the address where the car was supposed to be.
When he got there, he looked at it, taking in to account what would need to be done to get it running again.
With her birthday coming up in a few weeks, Dom had made up his mind that the following morning, he'd come back here and buy the car for her. Holding on to it until it was time to give it to her as a surprise she'd never see coming.
Venus looked over to Dom in confusion as he pulled up to the large door to his garage.
"What's going on," she asked, looking from the entrance to his garage and back to him.
"You'll see," he said, smiling at her before turning off the engine. He climbed out when he noticed that Venus was still sitting there with her seatbelt on. "Well, come on. Let's go see that surprise of yours."
Nodding, Venus finally climbed out of Dom's car, following behind him as he walked over towards the garage door. She eyed him suspiciously as he simply smiled at her before turning and lifting up the garage door.
A gasp escaped Venus' mouth as she stared at what was inside.
There, sitting with the hood up, was the car she'd been planning on buying as soon as she could.
"Dom," she said, peering over at the smiling man as he stood by the garage door, arms crossed over his chest, "how did you know?"
"I've seen you looking at the same ad for weeks," he said as he walked over towards where she stood, "and I heard you talking to Mia about it in the shop a few times. It's been here in the garage for weeks, hidden under a tarp so you wouldn't see it before it was time to give it to you."
"Oh, thank you, Dom," she cried as she rushed into his arms, hugging him tightly, "thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
"Whatever you need," Dom said as he pulled away from her and looked down at her, "tools, parts. Help. All you have to do is ask."
"Can we start working on it now," Venus asked as she peered up at him, this excited smile on her face. You'd swear she looked like a kid in a candy shop. But then again, she'd always loved being around cars and helping to work on them, so you really could say she was. It was her own sort of candy shop.
Every day, Venus found herself in Dom's garage working on her car when she wasn't needed at the shop. Most days, she worked alone. Other days Dom was there to help her. Then rarely any other time the rest of the team would help out with working on the car.
With the help she received from working on her very first car, it was finished within a few months after Dom giving it to her. The day she finally got to drive it from the garage and to Dom's house, should couldn't have been happier.
Parking the car outside of Dom's shed in the backyard of his house, everyone on the team gathered 'round as Mia grabbed her camera.
Venus found herself standing in front of her car, Dom on her left, Vince on her right. Both men had their arms around her as the rest of the team joined in for the photo, making sure that the new addition could still be seen in the picture.
Venus had her eyes on Mia and her camera, this massive smile on her face as she waited for the picture to be taken. Dom, however, had his attention on the teenage girl beside him. Ever since he'd bought the car for her, he'd looked forward to seeing the smile that was sure to make its way to the girl's face when she was finally able to drive it for the first time, out on the streets of California.
He heard the click of the camera before he turned his head quickly to face Mia as she gave him this smile. She lifted her brow as she watched him, waiting for him to say something. But all he did was shake his head and turn to everyone else. "Let's eat!"
