How to Make These Feelings Known

Work Text:

“Oh my god,” Jungkook sighed out for probably the hundredth time that night. He didn’t know how much more of this he could take before he’d have a heart attack. He was sitting out dance rehearsal tonight, but his heart was still getting too much exercise. Just watching Jung Hoseok move was enough to make any person hyperventilate, but the fact that Jungkook was in love with him just meant Hoseok already owned his entire ass.

“You knew this would happen when you decided to come. Live with your choices,” Jimin said, because he was a bad friend and didn’t sympathize with Jungkook’s problems at all.

You know that I still need to keep up with the choreo, even while my legs are healing,” Jungkook replied. Just the other day he had twisted his ankle, luckily not that bad, but he had to stay off of his feet for a couple weeks. Since their school performance is in only a month Jungkook knows there is no way he can afford to miss learning any of their new choreography, so he’s here, watching Hoseok body roll right over his heart. And dick.

“I know you can make it through this Kookie-ah, you could try looking away from Hobi-hyung for a little while,” Jimin suggested to Jungkook’s horror.

“Look away? And possibly miss a single body roll? I wouldn’t dare risk it.”

Jimin rolled his eyes, but mostly agreed so he didn’t say anything. Jungkook knew that watching Hoseok dance was causing him pain, but he knew missing it would cause even more.

“Alright guys take ten, get some water and some rest,” Hoseok said, to which everyone sighed in relief and went to get a water bottle just as he said.

Both fortunately, and unfortunately, Hoseok took the time during his break to go over to Jungkook and see how he was doing.

“Jungkookie! How are you doing? Is your ankle feeling alright?” Hoseok asked in genuine concern. Jungkook knew that that was just Hoseok’s nature, but his heart still swelled hearing Hoseok care about him so sweetly.

“I’m doing good Hobi-hyung, you don’t need to worry about me. I’m just here to learn about the new choreo. Which looks amazing by the way, I love it,” Jungkook said emphatically.

Hoseok smiled and did a cute flower pose with his hands, showing off his handsome face at Jungkook words. Jungkook tried to compliment Hoseok all the time because he deserved it- and while Hoseok knew he was as amazing as he was, he didn’t always take others’ compliments at face value.

“But will you be able to dance at the winter performance Jungkookie? I want to make sure we have your amazing talents on stage with us all,” Hoseok said encouragingly, making Jungkook blush like some crushing teen.

“My doctor said I would be fine as long as I stay off it for the next couple weeks, then it should be healed by the time of the performance. I’ve been looking forward to it so I’m glad I don’t have to miss it. My brother Junghyun already said he would be there, so I want to perform well for him.”

“And I know you will!” Hoseok encouraged sweetly, “You’ve always been so good at dancing. Just like everything else,” he added teasingly.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, but he could still feel his face heating up in a slight blush, “Thank you Hobi-hyung. Shouldn’t you get some water before the break is over?”

Hoseok nodded, agreeing easily, and made his way over to where the water bottles were being kept. Just as Hoseok walked away, Jimin conveniently made his way back over to Jungkook with a shit-eating grin on his face.

“Have a good flirt with Hobi-hyung?” Jimin asked cheekily.

“I wish. He always says the nicest things, but I always know he doesn’t mean it like that. It doesn’t help that I’m shit at flirting as it is.”

“I keep offering to give you pointers, you could just take me up on my offer,” Jimin said casually enough.

Jungkook wanted to roll his eyes, but was afraid the action was becoming too familiar, “Please, if I need advice on how to act cute and then turn around to be the biggest slut, then I will go to you for help. Until then, I’d like Hoseok-hyung to like me for me.”

Jimin hit him on the head out of the habit of their arguments, “Even if the you is a ‘too awkward brat with six friends total’. Don’t forget I know all your secrets Kookie.”

“And I know all yours Jimin, you’re not special.”

They glared at each other for a second before they both laughed and Jimin turned around as the class was about to start again.

“Good luck on the never ending crush Kook,” he waved behind him as he walked away.

Jungkook tried to express his annoyance in a single wave even though Jimin wasn’t looking, but he also knew Jimin had a point. With Hoseok’s too nice nature and Jungkook’s incredible awkwardness, Jungkook would probably never be able to make his feelings known.

***

It wasn’t even a week later that Jungkook had to face his too sweet crush without any arm floaties to keep him from sinking. It wasn’t that strange that the two would find themselves together, as their friends always hung out and Hoseok would probably call themselves friends even, to Jungkook’s joy and horror. Jungkook and Hoseok had the same friend group, and he supposed that did make them friends, but they didn’t often hang out with just the two of them. Of course, Jungkook would take any relationship with Hoseok that he could, but he worried that if Hoseok thought of them as friends- he would never think of them as anything else. Then again, Jungkook doubted he would ever be able to make his feelings known so he should just be grateful for the relationship they do have.

On most Wednesdays, Taehyung and him would often go get frozen yogurt, both convincing themselves that frozen yogurt wasn’t as bad as ice cream, but that they needed some sort of mid-week pick me up if they were to make it to the end of the week. This Wednesday was much the same, finding both Taehyung and Jungkook making their way to the closest frozen yogurt place, the only difference this week being Jungkook’s crutches, that his doctor insisted on, simply to keep him off his foot.

“I’m not saying he should fucking propose or anything, but it would be nice if he gave me some indication that he wanted to still be together after college,” Taehyung complained at Jungkook, a rant that was nothing new to Jungkook.

“Taetae, you know Namjoon-hyung; he’s always thinking about everything except the future. I’m sure if you bring it up with him, he’d be willing to talk about it,” Jungkook tried to reason, knowing what little good it would do.

“He thinks about the future, I know that for a fact. He’s talked with his mom at three different times about the types of graduate schools he wants to go to and where those are. He hasn’t even asked about whether I’m thinking of going to graduate school! And even if I was planning on it, I would still go a year after him - so if he leaves Seoul then we’d definitely have a long-distance relationship for at least a year…and he hasn’t even talked to me about whether that’s the best idea or not.”

“Taehyung, I’ve heard all of this before. I swear if you just talk to Namjoon-hyung then you’d have all your answers a lot quicker than by ranting at me,” Jungkook said, trying to sound somewhat comforting, but Jungkook was losing track of how many times he had heard this argument and he was losing his patience.

“I know Kook. I’m just scared he’ll realize that he doesn’t want a long distance relationship and break up with me. Then I’ll have to exist a whole year with him here, but not being mine,” Taehyung replied forlornly.

Jungkook was taken aback; this was the first time he heard any of these feelings that Taehyung was having. Jungkook couldn’t help but think that they were similar to his own thoughts and relationship problems. The idea of talking with Hoseok and ruining what they had now seemed far too scary to fathom.

Before Jungkook could say anything to try and comfort Taehyung, or maybe even compare their situations and get some advice for himself, Taehyung spoke up again.

“Oh yeah, I just remembered, Hobi-hyung is meeting us at Froyo today,” he said casually.

Jungkook nearly fell off his crutches.

“I’m sorry, what?!” Jungkook asked, thoroughly taken aback.

“Yeah, well Jimin’s class was cancelled so he is going to meet us there and Yoongi-hyung just so happened to be free after hearing that,” Taehyung informed him with an exasperated eye roll. “So he invited Hoseok-hyung as well, probably to make himself seem less desperate, and Hobi-hyung said he would come.”

Jungkook already knew that Jimin was coming, Taehyung having the courtesy to tell him at least that much, but he didn’t say anything about Hoseok - and now Jungkook is up shit creek without a paddle.

“Tae,” Jungkook said, not whining no matter who asked, “Why didn’t you tell me, you know I like to be emotionally prepared before talking to him.”

“I’m sorry Kook-ah, I just heard about this a bit ago and I meant to tell you when we met up, but then I got a text from Namjoon and you know how he always distracts me. I’m sorry! I’m sure it will be fine, Hobi-hyung likes you well enough and you always look good so you don’t have to worry about that.”

“This isn’t about looking good Tae, this is about not making myself seem like a total fool around him!” Jungkook near screeched, trying not to let his emotions get out of hand, but really wishing he could have prepared for seeing Hoseok on the walk over.

“Who do you not want to seem like a total fool around?” asked a voice from behind them, making them both jump.

Turning around they found Hoseok just behind them on the sidewalk, which was to be expected since they were standing outside the Froyo place and Hoseok was sure to show up at any time.

“Hobi-hyung!” Taehyung exclaimed, partially out of excitement, partially out of anxiety for Jungkook, “Looks like we made it at the same time. Should we go in and get a table?”

“I’m sure Jimin and Yoongi-hyung have that under control seeing as, for some reason, they both wanted to show up around half an hour early, but yes let’s go inside,” Hoseok answered, gesturing for them to go through the door and Jungkook was close to sighing in relief thinking they had properly distracted Hoseok, when he added, “So who are you scared to make a yourself a fool around Jungkookie?”

Before he could come up with a decent enough lie Taehyung decided to throw him under the bus with, “His crush!” as he slipped away inside so that all Jungkook could do was wish he had super powers that could make someone combust with a look. He would definitely use those powers for evil.

“Ooooooh,” Hoseok crooned, always interested in the latest Tea and apparently Jungkook having a crush was good enough for that.

“It’s no big deal hyung really,” Jungkook said, trying to avoid Hoseok’s eye as he very kindly held the door open for him to stumble through on his crutches.

“I think it’s a big deal,” Hoseok said making Jungkook feel hopeful for half a second, “I can’t imagine you acting like a fool around anyone, this person must be something.”

Jungkook couldn’t believe it, apparently he had managed to never come off as a fool in front of Hoseok, but that just cemented the idea that Hoseok had no idea how Jungkook felt about him. Sighing in defeat Jungkook made his way over to where Yoongi, Jimin, and Taehyung were sitting. Jungkook didn’t know whether to feel elated or nervous when Hoseok sat down next to him.

“So what are you guys talking about?” Hoseok asked cheerily.

“I was just lamenting the fact that Jin-hyung can’t be here to join us,” Taehyung answered.

“Lamenting? Big word little Taetae,” Hoseok said wiggling his finger around teasingly.

“It’s because Namjoon-hyung is rubbing off on him, I doubt he even knew what the word meant before they were dating,” Jimin said slyly, always ready to throw shade. Jungkook snickered mostly because it was too real.

“Hey! I know what words mean,” Taehyung exclaimed.

“But it takes knowing Namjoon for you to use them correctly,” Yoongi added dryly, always seamless with his sarcasm.

Jimin cracked up, and Hoseok and Jungkook couldn’t help but laugh, especially when Taehyung pouted and mumbled something under his breath.

“What was that?” Jungkook asked.

“I said, if Joonie were here he’d say that it’s important that I’m willing to learn,” Taehyung said still pouting.

The group sobered up a bit at that. Taehyung was always ready to learn and Namjoon was incredibly patient with him. Everyone thought it was cute how the two always studied together and how they didn’t know if it was because Namjoon loved teaching or if was because Taehyung loved learning, but the two of them were great together because of that.

“Sorry Tae, we didn’t mean to take it too far,” Jungkook said trying to reassure him.

“Yeah, you guys are adorable together and of course it’s great that you’re learning new things. How’s learning English going?” Hoseok asked, changing the subject like the sweetheart he is.

“Great!” Taehyung said, jumping on the change of subject gratefully, “Just the other day Joonie said he thinks it’s time I have a conversation with a native English speaker. I mean, I’m super nervous, but I think it will go well.”

“With Namjoon there to help,” Yoongi added, not unkindly.

“Of course!” Taehyung agreed smiling his boxy smile.

“Now,” Jimin said, “Did we come here to talk or to get frozen yogurt?”

“I don’t know you tell me,” Hoseok said already standing up, “You and Yoongi were the ones sitting here talking instead of eating for who knows how long.”

Taehyung and Jungkook laughed as both Jimin and Yoongi turned slightly red and refused to look at one another. Both boys made to stand up.

“Not you,” Hoseok said, pointing accusingly at Jungkook, “You stay sitting, I’ll get your yogurt for you. I don’t want my precious Jungkook walking around when he doesn’t have to.”

Now it was Jungkook’s turn to blush, though luckily Hoseok had already turned away.

“Whipped,” Jimin whispered as he and Yoongi stood to make their way to the counter. Jungkook wasn’t sure who he was referring to, as Hoseok was in no way whipped for Jungkook. He was just a really good friend that Jungkook was lucky to have.

Looking over at Hoseok buying him frozen yogurt, Jungkook realized he would use all his powers for good if Hoseok wanted him to, and knowing Hoseok he would indeed want him to. Jungkook was okay with that.

***

“Shit,” Jungkook exclaimed as his books fell to the ground for probably the hundredth time that day. He knew packing his laptop was a bad idea, but he really needed it for the project he had yet to finish. But there was also the unforeseen circumstance of not being able to fit his largest book in the bag, which normally wouldn’t be a problem if he wasn’t on crutches and had no free hands. Jungkook was a fool with a crumpled book.

As he began trying to lower himself to the ground without dropping his crutches or falling on his ass, he saw some feet enter his line of vision. He was not looking forward to the judgmental stares his incredibly embarrassing position was gaining so he didn’t look up until the person belonging to the feet spoke.

“Jungkookie! Do you need some help?”

Jungkook knew that voice and he could not fucking believe he was about to live his horrific fantasy of embarrassing himself in front of his crush. He prayed to the heavens to not fall on his ass, he didn’t think he could live with the shame.

“Hyung!” he exclaimed trying to sound as cheery as possible and not like he was currently struggling an embarrassingly large amount.

“Let me get that Jungkookie,” Hoseok said, dipping down and picking up the book before Jungkook could say anything.

“Thank you hyung,” Jungkook said almost sheepishly, reaching for the book.

Hoseok didn’t seem to notice his hand because he tucked the book under his arm and asked, “Where’s your class Jungkookie-ah?”

“No, hyung you don’t have to walk me to class. I can make it fine,” Jungkook was absolutely lying, there was close to no way he could make it to his class at all like this let alone on time.

“Don’t be stupid Kookie, hyung will carry your book and in return you will talk to me while we walk to your class.”

Jungkook thought that sounded like he got his cake and ate it too, but decided not to jinx it by saying anything. Instead he thanked his lucky stars that he got such a treat today.

The walk to Jungkook’s class was lively, there was usually never a dull moment when Hoseok was around, but Jungkook hadn’t had a lot of one on one time with him. They got on great, better than Jungkook could have hoped after how embarrassing their meeting today started, their energy bouncing off each other well - keeping the conversation going constantly and making Jungkook think there was nothing the two of them couldn’t talk about.

Far too quickly they made it to Jungkook’s class, and to his slight embarrassment, Hoseok even walked him to his seat- dropping his book off there before saying goodbye. Jungkook watched him go wistfully.

Jungkook didn’t know if it was better or worse to have a crush on a boy that looked out for everyone like caring mother. On the one hand, he got a hyung who held his book and walked him to class, on the other he never really knew if his hyung thought anything special about him.

***

After class Jungkook was trying to figure out the logistics of caring his book while hobbling along on crutches once again, when familiar feet graced his line of vision again.

Jungkook’s head shot up, taken aback by the idea that Hoseok was back once more.

“Hyung! You’re here,” Jungkook looked around, “do you have a class in this building?”

“Nope!” Hoseok said cheerily easily scooping Jungkook’s book into his arms once again, “I’m here for you Kookie-ah, and you obviously need help once again. So where are we going?”

Jungkook was stunned silent, again, really wishing right about now that he was better at flirting. Sadly he was a flirting noob and all that he succeeded in was having his face heat up and barely managing to stutter out that he was going to the library next.

Hoseok smiled as brightly as he always and they began on their way. The walk this time around was quieter than the last, because Jungkook could hardly get anything coherent out. He knew this was the perfect time to lay on ‘the moves’ but for the life of him, all Jungkook could think of was really bad lines like ‘You come here often?’ where the school? That would be pointless. And ‘Do you have a map because I could get lost in those eyes.’

Contrary to popular belief, Jungkook wasn’t a fan of embarrassing the shit out of himself so he kept his mouth shut.

Even with mostly silence, the walk wasn’t uncomfortable. Hoseok talked a bit about a few things that had happened in his class and Jungkook responded properly. But even when Hoseok wasn’t talking the atmosphere was still nice, Jungkook may have had a lot of silences with a lot of people, but they never felt as comfortable as they were with Hoseok.

Jungkook almost lamented once again when they reached his destination that he would have to say goodbye to Hoseok, enjoying any moment they spent together.

“Here, put your number in my phone,” Hoseok said out of nowhere, pulling his phone out of his pocket and offering it to Jungkook.

“W-what? Why?” Jungkook said still taking the phone almost reverently. Hoseok grabbing one of his crutches as it almost fell.

“Because I don’t have yours,” Hoseok said as though this should be obvious, “When you’re done with your whatever at the library, just text me and I’ll come pick you up.”

Jungkook almost dropped the phone at hearing that, “What? No, Hobi-hyung don’t be ridiculous that’s too much! I’ll be fine.”

“Nope, that just won’t do, put your number in Jungkookie.”

“Hyung, I’m going to be here really late. I have a whole presentation tomorrow that I barely even started on. I can’t ask you to come back.”

“You can and you will,” Hoseok said matter of factly.

Just as Jungkook opened his mouth to refute Hoseok once more, Hoseok interrupted him, “Jungkookie, let me do this for you okay? I just really want to.”

Hoseok held his gaze and for a moment, just a moment, Jungkook felt that maybe Hoseok actually cared about Jungkook the same way Jungkook cared about him. But then Jungkook looked away, mentally reminding himself that Hoseok was just the type of person who always wanted to help his friends.

“Ok you win this round, hyung.”

Jungkook finished putting his number in Hoseok’s phone, once he handed it back- Hoseok immediately sent him a text so that Jungkook would have his number too.

“I’ll see you later Kookie!” Hoseok said as he waved and walked away.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, but his heart was so full. He felt maybe he wasn’t a fool with a crumpled textbook, but maybe an idiot with his crushes number.

***

“I swear to God Kook, if Yoongi-hyung doesn’t ask me out soon I might spontaneously combust,” Jimin whined from Jungkook’s bed. It was a few days later and Jungkook was working on yet another project, this time he had to do so with his friends. Working with his friends is always fun, but they usually got distracted, just like they were now.

Jungkook rolled his eyes at how extra his friend was; more annoyed that they were once again being distracted from finishing their project.

“And I’ve told you a thousand times that you should just ask him out,” Taehyung piped up from the floor beside Jungkook, not even looking up from his book. “That’s what I did with Joon and it worked great. Honestly, there was almost no way that he would have actually managed to do it if I hadn’t”

“I know Taehyungie! But I’ve never asked out anyone before.”

Jungkook scoffed, he knew that his friend was good looking, but he was extremely privileged if he had never had to ask someone out.

“We get it you’re gorgeous Jimin,” Jungkook said, “But don’t you think Yoongi-hyung might be worth stepping out of your comfort zone?”

Jimin scoffed, “Yoongi-hyung is worth anything, but how can I know he actually likes me if I ask him out.”

“Uh, he says yes!” Taehyung exclaimed exasperated.

“Yeah Jimin, I think if he agrees to go on a date with you, you can probably bet that he likes you too,” Jungkook said as though he was explaining something to someone very slow.

“Yah!! You brat,” Jimin yelled throwing a pillow at Jungkook’s head, which he expertly dodged. “Fine, maybe I’ll ask him out. But if my flirting didn’t work, then maybe he doesn’t actually like me back. He’ll probably say no.”

This was the first time that Jimin’s words actually sounded sad, as though he couldn’t tell how absolutely gone for him Yoongi was. Jungkook and Taehyung looked at each other silently, asking which of them was going to bite the bullet and tell Jimin the truth. After some intense eye contact, Taehyung finally sighed and stood up.

“Jimin!” He started, practically shouting because Taehyung didn’t do things half way, “If you actually think that Yoongi-hyung doesn’t like you after all the time you two spend together and all the stupid looks he send your way, maybe you really shouldn’t be dating him.”

Jimin looked up, his face somewhere between annoyed and fond, but before he could reply Jungkook jumped in.

“What are you talking about Tae? They’re perfect for each other. If Yoongi hasn’t noticed by now how in love Jimin is with him, what with him constantly touching his arms, falling all over him whenever he laughs, and doing aegyo at him like it’s a fucking three coarse meal.”

At that Jimin really did look annoyed, of course the two boys knew the way that he flirted and would of course use that knowledge against him.

“I get it, okay, you think he likes me the same way. But if I’m really being as obvious as you say, then why hasn’t he asked?”

“Jimin,” Taehyung started, sitting down next to Jimin, who was still lying on the bed, “This may shock you since he always acts so cool and badass, but Yoongi is a shy ass nerd, who doesn’t know about anything besides making his music.”

Jimin giggled at that, “You do have a point. Alright, I’ll ask him tomorrow.”

Jungkook nodded his head; glad they had all of that resolved so that they could move on to actually finishing their project. But Taehyung didn’t return to the floor and so after a minute Jungkook looked up only to realize that both boys were staring at him.

“What?”

“Well, now that we have Chimchim’s problem solved we were just wondering when you were going to solve yours.”

“I don’t have any problems, my foot’s gonna be healed in a couple days and I’ll be a hundred percent healthy. No problems for Jeon Jungkook,” Jungkook said as though he didn’t know what they were talking about.

“It’s like he’s being intentionally dense as though, somehow, you and I are also that stupid, Taehyungie,” Jimin said conversationally.

“I can’t believe he would think so little of us Jiminie.”

“He doesn’t have to go that far. If he wanted us to think he was stupid, all he would have to say is that Hobi-hyung isn’t madly in love with him.”

“Shut up!” Jungkook said, throwing his pencil because he had nothing better to sacrifice, “He does not, and pretending that he does is just rude.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes and put his head in his hands with a dramatic ‘ugh.’

Jungkook, who was used to their antics, ignored them and continued, “I’ve accepted a long time ago that Hobi-hyung will never like me back and that’s fine,” It wasn’t fine. “I’ll probably get over him eventually,” as if. “And I would really just appreciate it if you guys didn’t bring it up like any of this is going to change.”

“Oh my god Jungkook, I cannot believe you,” Jimin said, finally standing up and beaning Jungkook in the head with his very own pencil, “He carried your book to class, to the library and then came back and walked you home!”

“He’s a really nice person and I’m in crutches Hyung!” Jungkook said, desperately using hyung against Jimin as though that would make him stop. Sadly, it seemed to be ineffective.

“You can’t keep hiding behind Hobi-hyung being nice, he treats you special and you should know that,” Jimin said.

“He even asked you to dinner the other night!” Taehyung added before Jungkook could say anything, “I bet he thinks it’s a date, and you’re going to break his heart without giving him a goodnight kiss.”

“Why? Why would you do that to him Jungkook?” Jimin added as though he was personally offended.

Jungkook did not like it when his two best friends ganged up on him like this, and if Jungkook didn’t know better he may think they planned this ahead of time.

Jungkook took a deep breath before arguing back, “Listen, that dinner is not a date. He specifically said that it was a celebration for me getting off my crutches. He’s being a good hyung and taking his dongsaeng out to dinner it’s nothing special. Yoongi-hyung and I go out and get lamb skewers all the time, it doesn’t mean anything.”

“Yeah, but Yoongi-hyung doesn’t tell you to wear something nice and to leave the time afterword free.”

“It’s probably just a nice restaurant and we were talking about dance, Hobi-hyung probably just wants to show me the dance so I’m caught up for the winter performance.”

Jimin threw his hands into the air seemingly fed up. Jungkook took that as a win, or he would if Taehyung wasn’t suddenly at his side, looking into his eyes as though he needed to share the world’s secrets with him.

“Jungkook, I still think you are being a giant idiot about all of this, but promise me you will accept that it is a date if you don’t go to the dance studio afterward, okay?”

Jungkook thought all of this was pointless, but thought agreeing would be the fastest way out of this conversation and back to their project, so he nodded and Jimin let out a thankful sigh before pulling his book back into his lap.

“Good, now can we finish this, we can’t keep being distracted,” Jimin said as though he wasn’t the one who got them sidetracked in the first place.

Jungkook and Taehyung gave each other a look, but followed Jimin’s lead and continued their work without further complaint.

***

So Jungkook maybe, slightly, barely underestimated how nice the restaurant was going to be.

And by maybe, slightly, barely, he meant that pretty much everyone was dressed to the nines, Hoseok was in a fucking suit, and Jungkook had come in dark jeans and a button down, the sleeves of which he had rolled up.

Maybe Jungkook should have done a bit more research on the restaurant, but truthfully he couldn’t imagine Hoseok taking him to a nicer place than an average meat restaurant. Jungkook was floored, and was really starting to consider Jimin and Taehyung’s words as even a remote possibility.

“Kookie!” Hoseok called waving from the right of the entrance. Jungkook was just grateful he hadn’t brought flowers or something. Jungkook wasn’t sure how his heart could have handled that.

“Hey Hobi-hyung,” Jungkook said nervously as he approached Hoseok, “What are we doing here?” Gesturing up to the nice restaurant like it was a mistake.

The question seemed to throw Hoseok off for a moment because his 100-watt smile dimmed a little. Recovering quickly though as Hoseok smiled again and took Jungkook’s arm leading him into the restaurant.

“What does it look like we’re doing? We’re going to eat dinner.”

Jungkook pondered this as Hoseok led him into the restaurant, telling the waitress his name -as apparently he even made reservations. It sure sounded like a date, but Jungkook didn’t want to get his hopes up or anything. Jungkook couldn’t really reason why Hoseok, king of dance and sunshine smiles, of all people would be taking him, Jeon Jungkook, awkward bean that didn’t even have to work hard to accomplish things, on a date. Sure some people would say Jungkook was attractive and his multi-talents would lead anyone to liking him, but Jungkook always figured that Hoseok would only really be interested in someone who worked hard at everything and could make people smile the way he could.

Nevertheless, Jungkook was having dinner with Hoseok and he was 100% about to make the most of it. Now only if there was a sneaky way to steal a kiss from the man of your dreams.

“Do you come here often Hobi-hyung?” Jungkook asked, and then cringed a little when he realized what he said was a cliché romance line.

“Nope!” Hoseok answered cheerily, “This is just my ‘something nice’ restaurant.”

“Well you should have warned me!” Jungkook argued, “If I had known what a nice place this was I wouldn’t have come looking like such a hobo.”

Hoseok laughed softly, “Nonsense! You look great. I mean, I really probably overdid it a little with the suit so don’t worry too much.”

Jungkook sighed but decided to listen to Hoseok, and at least try to ignore how incredibly out of place he felt. It didn’t help when he looked at the menu and saw the prices.

“Uh, Hobi-hyung,” Jungkook started to which Hoseok raised his head, “I don’t think there’s any way I can afford this.”

Hoseok just chuckled dryly at him and Jungkook was on the verge of arguing the ridiculousness of the situation when Hoseok spoke, “I’m paying for you Jungkook, don’t be silly.”

Jungkook was silent at that. Don’t get him wrong, he loved having his hyungs take him out for meals. One of the perks of being the maknae was the fact that his food was often treated to him. This though, this was ridiculous, he couldn’t imagine how Hoseok could afford this for just himself let alone Jungkook as well.

“No way! Hoseok-hyung! I could never let you do that. I mean look at this!” Jungkook exclaimed gesturing to the menu.

“Jungkook-ah,” Hoseok said soothingly, “don’t worry about it, okay? Just let hyung treat you tonight and enjoy yourself.”

Jungkook wanted to argue more, but there was this part of him that felt Hoseok wouldn’t take him there if he couldn’t afford it. Another part of him couldn’t stop thinking about how much that made this a date. So he nodded and looked down at the menu, deciding he could at least buy something cheap if he was going to get anything.

In the end Jungkook got a burger, one of the only things on the menu below 20,000 won, and Hoseok got a steak like he was the hero of a bond movie. Did James Bond eat steak? Was that his thing? Jungkook couldn’t remember, he just remembered ‘Shaken not stirred.’ Either way it definitely reminded Jungkook how much cooler Hoseok was than him.

“So Jungkookie, now that you’re off your crutches I expect you’ll be at the dance studio twice as much,” Hoseok said after they had ordered.

This is where Jungkook should have said something along the lines of ‘only if you’re there to help me, hyung’ ;)

Sadly, all Jungkook could pull off was a soft whining noise and a nod of the head.

“I know it’s intimidating trying to learn everything in almost half the time, but you’ve always been really talented Jungkook, so I know you can pull it off. And of course hyung will be there to help you,” Hoseok said, to which Jungkook looked up at him. Hoseok winked and Jungkook almost fell out of his chair.

Maybe Hoseok was good enough at this flirting for the both of them; if Jungkook was going to admit to calling this flirting.

“Thank you hyung,” Jungkook offered looking him in the eyes again. Hoseok beamed and the night carried on in much the same way.

Hoseok mostly carried the conversation because most of the time Jungkook was a stuttering mess, but Hoseok didn’t seem to mind. If Jungkook didn’t know any better he would have thought Hoseok thought he was cute. But Jungkook wasn’t totally ready to admit to that yet.

Once they paid, Hoseok paid and Jungkook tried not to look at the bill for his sanity’s sake, they made their way out of the restaurant. They walked along for a ways, they’re hands sometimes bumping, and Jungkook was trying to work up the courage to ask if they were going to the dance studio or not.

“Uh, Hyung, where are we going?” Jungkook asked, thinking it was a slightly safer question than straight up bringing up the dance studio.

“It’s a surprise!” Hoseok said as cheery as ever.

That didn’t help, but Jungkook decided to drop it, let nature take its course; if nature was the whims of one Jung Hoseok.

Wherever they were going, it was within walking distance because before too long Hoseok stopped them and told Jungkook to close his eyes. Jungkook sighed and did as he was told, trusting Hoseok to not lead him into danger.

“Okay, a few more steps. There!” Hoseok instructed, “Now, open your eyes.”

Jungkook did and took a step back in shock.

“We’re at your house?” Jungkook asked completely unsure of what the whole night was about now.

“Yep.”

“And what are we doing here?”

“We’re going to play video games as long as you like.”

“Video games? You brought me to your house to play video games?” Jungkook was utterly confused now, against his better judgment he was starting to think that tonight really was a date, but he wasn’t expecting this. Sure video games and dinner were almost his ideal idea of a date, but he didn’t think Hoseok thought so.

“Of course! If I’m going to be your boyfriend, then I think it’s important to know what kind of things you like to do,” Hoseok said smiling as he put his arm around Jungkook’s waist to lead him to the door, “I didn’t buy the console or anything. I borrowed it from Yoongi-hyung, but if you like it maybe I’ll buy one in the future.”

Jungkook was stunned, nearly motionless if Hoseok wasn’t still softly guiding him forward toward the door.

“W-wait. Boyfriend?” Jungkook asked, finally coming to his senses and breaking out of Hoseok’s grip.

Hoseok’s face fell and Jungkook instantly felt like a jerk and wanted to apologize, but first he wanted answers.

“Well, yeah. I know tonight’s only our first date, but I thought, you know, it would make sense.”

Jungkook did not know and currently nothing was making sense.

“First date?” Jungkook asked still lost.

“Y-yeah,” Hoseok answered, now also looking lost, “Of course tonight is our first date. Do you not think video games is a good enough first date?”

Of course Jungkook thought video games was a good first date, it was the best first date, but he still had to wrap his mind around the idea of this being a date.

“Wait. Hoseok do you like me?”

Now Hoseok looked as confused as Jungkook felt, “Yes! I really like you, I’ve liked you for so long! Don’t you like me as well?”

“Yes! Of course I like you! But I always thought you thought of me as a friendly dongsaeng.”

At that Hoseok looked exasperated and Jungkook was worried he finally pissed off his most easy going hyung.

“You know, right now, I don’t know if I want to kiss you or push you off a bridge.”

Jungkook was stunned silent at that, but only for a moment, “Can I pick?” He asked, it was probably his best flirty comeback he had ever used.

Hoseok smiled and grabbed Jungkook by the neck pulling him into a searing kiss that Jungkook felt all the way down to his toes. At first the kiss was firm and almost hurried, but it quickly dissolved to something sweeter. Kissing Hoseok was exactly how Jungkook thought it would be, like warm honey, slow and sweet.

When they pulled back, Jungkook smiled at Hoseok and Hoseok smiled right back, “So all this time you’ve liked me?”

Hoseok rolled his eyes, “And all this time you thought I didn’t like you? You’re fairly dense, huh, Kook-ah?”

Jungkook wanted to refute, but he was too happy to argue in that moment. So, instead, he pulled Hoseok forward towards his own house.

“Come on Hobi-hyung I want to see how good you are at Overwatch.”

The answer was not very, but it was okay they had all the time in the world.

“I told you it was a date!” Taehyung cheered into the microphone as Jimin made shushing noises from his end.

They were on a three way skype call, which they usually saved for when one of them was out of town, but tonight was too special for any of them to wait.

“Yes, yes, I shall forever listen to you ‘oh great and all-knowing Tae’,” Jungkook joked, he was back in his room and it was almost 3am. He and Hoseok had played video games till nearly 2am, but he couldn’t wait till tomorrow to talk to Jimin and Taehyung.

“Don’t say things like, that you’ll give him a big head,” Jimin said in mostly a whisper as he was not alone on his end of the call.

“I still can’t believe you’re calling from his house, Jiminie,” Taehyung half-whispered half-yelled.

“Shush!” Jimin cried looking behind him, “I didn’t want to miss out on everything! It’s no fun hearing it the next day and hey I have news of my own, don’t you guys want to hear?”

“Gross, no!” Jungkook said making a face of disgust, “I don’t want to know how Yoongi-hyung is in bed.”

“I do!” Taehyung piped up cheerily.

“You’re disgusting Tae,” Jungkook added.

“Quiet both of you, that’s not what I meant! We barely did anything anyway,” Jimin chided.

“Define ‘barely,’” Taehyung wheedled.

“Or don’t.”

“Listen, I just wanted to tell you guys that Yoongi actually asked me out before I could ask him!” Jimin said his voice rising a bit with how excited he was, but when a grunt came from the other room he quieted again, “I walked up to him and said ‘Yoongi-hyung we need to talk’ and said ‘Wait! I think you want to hear me out first!’ and then went on a rant about how I should go out with him and that even though I probably came by to tell him to leave me alone that he would like a chance first. So I kissed him and the rest is history.”

“And that’s all it will be, we don’t need no nasty details, except maybe why you’re in the bathroom?” Jungkook asked trying to look past Jimin at his surroundings even though it was pointless.

“I didn’t want to wake him up, but I didn’t want to go too far so I’m in the bathroom that connects to his room.”

“A man of luxury,” sighed Taehyung.

“Or a man whose whole house consists of four rooms that all connect. Oh well, I didn’t get into this for his money, for once.”

“For once?” Jungkook asked, needing more answers there, but he was interrupted by Taehyung.

“I have news of my own you guys!” So they both paused to listen, but Jungkook still wanted more information, “Namjoon’s not going away next year!”

“That’s great Taetae!” Jimin said.

“It is! I finally talked with him and he said that his mom was the one who wanted him to go to a faraway graduate school, she was even suggesting he go to America! But he told me that he never wanted to leave Seoul and he just had to work up his nerve to tell her he wasn’t going to graduate school next year and that he wanted to focus on his music.”

“That’s great, Yoongi-hyung was hoping he would want to stay so they could work together for a while,” Jimin added.

“Well that’s great news for Yoongi-hyung, but I have even better news for Taehyung,” Taehyung added almost indignantly, “Namjoon asked me to move in with him!”

“Really?!” Jimin and Jungkook said at the same time.

“Yep! He said that next year, when he’s a senior he’s going to move out of the dorms and get his own place like Yoongi-hyung and he wanted to know if I wanted to move in with him and I said yes!”

“That’s great Taetae,” Jimin said and Jungkook nodded his agreement.

Jungkook was really happy for his friend, even though he knew Taehyung and Namjoon would be fine, and Jungkook could tell they were thoroughly in love; but it was a big step that he was happy to see them take.

It looked like all three of them were going to be okay. And there laying on his bed mostly in the dark, Jungkook thought about Hoseok sending him home with a kiss and a ‘I'll see you tomorrow’ and Jungkook had never felt happier.
