Dieter struggled to move, but his feet were frozen to the spot. A slithering sound caught his attention and, looking up, he spotted the towering caterpillar-like shape of a Fendahleen.
“No,” he cried, pulling the rifle from his back. Careful not to look at the creature’s eyes, he aimed. “I know what you are! I will not succumb!” He fired twice and the thing squealed angrily.
“You alright down there?” Another man crested the hill and ran forward.
“Stay back,” Dieter warned, but it was too late. The Fendahleen attacked the stranger, draining him until he was only a husk.
