Summary
Point number two: take the opening. “Well… would you want to spend it together? With me, I mean.”
“Really?” Shiro looks surprised. “You don’t have, like… an office party or something?”
Keith snorts. “I’m a mechanic, Shiro. We don’t want to spend our non-working hours staring at each other’s ugly faces any more than we have to. Kolivan’s giving us the weekend off and a bottle of midgrade scotch with our bonus check.”
“I like scotch,” Shiro says shyly. “If you’re sure you don’t have other plans. I don’t want to take up all your time.”
Please take up all my time, Keith doesn’t say.

Summary
Shiro glares at him from under two layers of microplush throw blankets, one over his head and back draped like a hooded cape, the other across struggling to cover his lap under a pile of assorted prepacked snacks: Hostess sno-balls, Handi snack mini breadsticks with processed cheese, a jumbo bag of black peppered jerky. A half empty box of Capri-suns sit at his slippered feet.
“If you’re here to make fun of me, please go away.” Shiro says with great dignity. “It’s post-finals and I can do whatever I want.”
“You’re not celebrating, you’re wallowing.” Matt points out, stealing a Capri-sun. “Ooh, Pacific Cooler,” he notes approvingly, stabbing the pointy straw into the pouch with gusto.
“It’s the best kind,” Shiro says sulkily.
“Pacific Cooler Shiro is a Shiro in crisis,” Matt accuses him.

Summary
In his defense, Keith has never had to track the phases of the moon before. It was something that prickled under his skin, an instinct for the time and the pull. This moonsense had wavered and all but disappeared under his humanity curse, and somehow Keith had not had occasion to glance at the ridiculous kitten-themed calendar Lance kept on the fridge at home for when exactly the full moon would land in December.
Frustrating? Of course. But Keith hasn’t gone wolf in months! He dances in place, spinning just to feel his weight shift on four paws, delighting in the clack of his claws against the hardwood floor. Wolf-dog Keith scents the air- clean laundry, Shiro, a little dust- ooh, a stray M&M. Wolf-dog Keith licks it up from the floor.
“Enjoying yourself?” Shiro asks, amused.

Summary
“How’s it coming?” Shiro murmurs where he’s holding two walls together for a moment to dry.
“I dunno,” Keith admits. “I’ve never made one of these before.”
Instead of showing impatience or irritation or pity the way Keith had always expected, Shiro is Shiro about it. His eyes brighten in honest happiness to have one more shiny new thing to try with Keith. It shouldn’t shock him so much, not after living together half a year and dating for a third of that besides, but Keith can’t help it. Maybe one day his first instinct won’t be to hide the soft uncertain parts of himself, but even then he’s sure that welcoming, loving part of Shiro will never fail to surprise and delight him.
“Let’s stay classic, then.” Shiro suggests. “A gingerbread home for gingerbread boyfriends.”

Summary
“Will you braid it into my hair for me?” Shiro says, hushed.
Keith hesitates. What Shiro is asking for isn’t something Keith has ever seen friends doing, nor best friends. It's precious, reserved for mates; Galra are not supposed to give their family ring to someone who isn’t bound in blood to them.
“Only if you want me to.”
Shiro laughs and it’s a lovely sound. “I'm asking, aren’t I?”
In which Keith and Shiro grow up together, braid each other’s hair, and fall in love along the way.

Summary
Keith has never felt so serene, his tension all melted away, leaving him feeling peaceful and grounded. It feels so nice that he’s too late to stop the trill that tumbles out of his mouth.
His eyes fly wide and he surges back, at least as far as Shiro lets him get in the unbudging circle of his arms. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean—”
“Hey, shh, it’s fine,” Shiro assures him.
It is not fine, that’s a sound for—
“It just means you’re feeling safe and taken care of, and that’s exactly what I want, ok? It’s fine, I promise. Trust me?”
Slowly, Keith nods. Shiro isn’t mad at him. He’s not disgusted.

Summary
Shiro talks into the quiet. “I would never say the things that hologram said to you,” he says. “If that blade was important to you, I’d never make you give it up.”
He sets aside the last piece of armour and reaches for the back of Keith’s collar, thumbs dipping into the grooves of his spine as he tugs the clasp down. “I’d never abandon you like that,” Shiro whispers, pulling Keith in close.
