When Azula is ten, father agrees to off his firstborn in exchange for power. As the firstborn, she takes some minor offense to this.
Or: Zuko is born second. His big sister shuts the Dum-Dum up before he can mouth off enough for an Agni Kai. Three years later, the Gaang have to deal with fourteen year old bright-eyed imperialist Zuko on their trail.
And Ozai has to deal with a daughter who only needs to be taught a lesson once. She is a prodigy, after all.

Any decent person wouldn’t want anything to do with the man who’d shattered their best friend’s heart. Edward left Bella’s best friend humiliated and broken. Too bad she’d just signed a three-year contract to continue the cult-hit TV show she starred in with the bastard. In an industry that thrived on rumor and speculation, with overzealous fans dissecting every word and gesture, red hot rage looked a lot like white hot passion.

littlebastardreviews posted the collected facts from the 2014 UK Editions of Harry Potter: and this fact caught my eye.
'Only one non-magical person has ever managed to get as far as the Hogwarts Sorting Hat before being exposed as a Squib.'
But, gosh it just makes me want a story where a squib did make it through. So here's a drabble about a squib with a quick mind and a hand-me-down wand, who refuses to be denied her birthright.
when the hat drops over her eyes it asks, 'well what do we have here?'
she’s got a forged hogwarts letter with penmanship that’s perfect down to the ink splatter;
she’s got a complicated string of owls, only half of them forged, from parents to administration to ministry that’s so complicated her name ended up on the first year roll call anyway.
she’s got ten arguments, four pleas, and one smothered threat on the tip of her mental tongue for why the house that comes out of this hat’s brim better not be 'squib'
she’s got a lighter up her sleeve and an eight and a half inch wand in her belt that will never, ever work for her.
'well,' says the hat, 'better be slytherin then'

Tony has faith in the man, in the man and the monster both. He has respect for Bruce, both his smarts and his control—this is Tony Stark, genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist, who’s never been able to control himself, lived half his life in a self-destructive spiral—in a lot of ways, Tony’s monster is much more noble than his man. Tony respects this man and his giant green rage monster, because Tony’s got one, too, and he’s nowhere as good at keeping it inside.

Integration into adult human social dynamics requires attention and effort. Especially with this bunch of damaged bozos.
