if you haven't yet read it, i encourage you to read it first; it'll provide any and all context you need. everything thereafter is fair game––think of the timeline a little like, well, confetti.
“The good news is,” Owen finally says, and from the way his shoulders slump, Dani’s not sure she believes him, “we’re not alone out here anymore, are we? We’ve got you, and Flora,” his eyes find Flora’s in the rearview mirror and she beams, wide and bright, her eyes sparkling in the afternoon sunlight, “and Miles, and Jamie now, too.”
“Yeah,” Owen shifts in his seat, “she’s the, uh…” he waves a hand, at once vague and clarifying as he turns, the steering wheel gliding smoothly beneath his other, “the… Security specialist? The one Henry hired.”
Right, Dani thinks dumbly, the trappings of circumstance rushing back to her, that.
It’s this, this, that Dani hadn’t signed up for.
Dani Clayton had not signed up for a… Jamie.
or: in the midst of threats from a former employee, henry wingrave relocates his niece and nephew, and their au pair, dani clayton, from london to his family's country home in bly. the only problem? jamie taylor, the private security specialist henry's contracted to stay with them while they're there.
Jamie looks back up at Dani, gaze serious. “I like you, Dani. A lot. And this… As much or as little time as we have, this is special. And I think that’s worth celebrating. So,” and there's a newfound lightness to her tone, “I think we should start. And celebrate as much as we can. And if all that turns out to be is a bunch of firsts,” she shrugs, “then so be it. But it’s… It’s what you deserve. What we deserve. And… I dunno what you think about that, but it’s the truth, so––”
“Jamie,” Dani’s voice is quiet, hoarse, and when Jamie lifts her eyes back to hers, Dani’s eyes are misty and wide and there’s a smile stretching across her face.
They’re quiet for a minute, holding each other’s gaze, a hopeful smile eking out across Jamie’s face, too.
“We do,” Dani whispers, “we do deserve it, don’t we?”
or: five times dani and jamie celebrated firsts, and one time they celebrated a 10th
Jamie Taylor is a tough-as-nails MI5 agent who never lets anyone get too close. Love is weakness, a liability, she believes. When her team is assigned as the protective detail for Henry Wingrave and his family, Agent Taylor realizes she has a problem— she’s falling for Dani Clayton, the American au pair she has been assigned to protect. When the mission goes terribly wrong, Jamie finds herself trapped with Dani in a foreign country and separated from her team. With assassins Viola Willoughby and Peter Quint hot on their trail, can Jamie keep Dani safe? Will they make it out alive? Or will Jamie’s growing feelings for Dani compromise the mission?
Or... the Damie spy thriller no one asked for.
