    Summary

What exactly, is he taking all these risks for? Hux cannot fathom. Each time they meet seems more vivid, more intense than the last. He thinks about those nights for months on end in the quiet moments before he sleeps and wakes up aching for more.

Hux, Poe, and the spaces in between.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“Well, I’ve got a room booked out back,” Poe says, his voice already slipping from sharp, harsh consonants to something more easy and mellow and deceptively unguarded. Hux has been the recipient of this tactic too many times to believe it to be anything more than a devious ploy to make him spill his secrets. Poe has always been better at seduction, however hopeless he might be at other sorts of things, like subtlety and political machinations.

    +

He remembers reaching out with his thumb to wipe a bead of blood from the corner of Poe’s mouth, then the sharpness of Poe’s teeth as they bit down on his gloved hand, the flash of anger in him replaced almost immediately with a hot, shameful surge of lust.

    +

As Dameron slowly strips him of his clothes, and then his self-control, Hux hates how much he has thought of this encounter, how he mapped out whole galaxies of touch across Poe’s body before he even received the final coordinates for their assignation.

    Summary

When Hux finds out that he is pregnant, he has a choice to make.

He could tell Poe and be pulled from the First Order

Or he keep quiet and bring down the First Order like he had always planned.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The Resistance was simultaneously hunting down the remnants of the First Order while being in talks to resurrect some sort of interplanetary government. Poe had pulled him into many of those meetings, having disclose Hux’s role as their spy, but his presence was still met with unease at best and open hostility at worst.

It was fine, better than how he had been treated in the First Order.

    +

“I want to keep it”, he whispered. It was the first time he admitted it out loud. The relief of having a choice without being compelled one way or the other, it was nearly enough to make him cry.

Poe took him by his arms with a huge grin on his face. “Guess we’ll be parents soon.” He leaned their foreheads together.

“The Emperor founded the Empire. It existed solely because of him and that’s why it ended with him.”

“It did not end”, Hux gave him a sharp look. “We’re still here. Heirs of the Empire. And you’re wrong. There was more to the Empire than Palpatine. It was an idea, a vision for the galaxy where everyone has their place and works together for a better future.”

“A better future for humans you mean.”

“If those aliens did not like their place, they were free to leave and do better. Or accept their defeat.”

“You wanna talk about it?” Poe asks. He can see Hux staring at his worn leather boots; Hux’s own feet are bare, his bruised and bloody toes peeking out from behind bandages. His toenails are gone, his soles flogged raw.

“What information do you need?” asks Hux, tone placid, conversational.

It takes Poe a moment to realize they’re having different conversations. He wants to know how badly Hux was hurt; Hux thinks this is an interrogation.

    Summary

“It’s supposed to be soothing,” he says.

One of Hux’s eyebrows lifts fractionally higher than the other.

“Calming? Relaxing? Soporific?” Poe asks, sounding him out. “Are any of these words ringing a bell for you?”

“I’m intimately familiar with rain, thank you,” says Hux, his voice crisp, his face hard. “I simply disagree with your analysis of it.”

“Let me guess, you think it’s miserable and cold?” Poe guesses. “Hey, off-topic — you ever wonder if maybe you have an attitude problem?”

    Bookmarker's Notes

In the darkness, Poe can sense Hux’s tension but can’t feel his body heat or even hear him breathing. It’s like sharing a bed with an echo of a person — a ghost. He's seen how Hux freezes when other people get close to him; the flicker of mixed fear and rage that always passes over his face when he's touched, as if he can't quite convince himself that something worse isn't coming.

“You good?” he asks, for his benefit more than Hux’s.

He gets an irritated sigh as an answer.
