at first it was confusing, difficult for kunikida to wrap his head around, difficult to adjust to the fact that dazai wasn’t spinning around in his office chair, nor was he singing about a double suicide. he was quiet, sitting in his chair with a book in hand, looking more peaceful and more solemn than kunikida had ever seen him.

"Is that blood?"
Dazai smirks tiredly. "Only some of it is mine," he replies, and it's not a lie. That was one more promise he had made, this one to the man before him instead of the one he's left behind in his past. Dazai's barely certain if he can keep his (tearful, trembling, desperate) promises to Odasaku, let alone Kunikida, who is arguably stricter and much more vocal about Dazai's frequency of keeping his promises, but still. He tries. The expression on Kunikida's face makes him think it's worth it as the blonde's eyes glimmer with relief and his shoulders lose some of their tension.
