  1. Summary

Kirkwall’s the kind of city that pretends to sleep, lulls its people into uncertain rest sometime before the sun slides, slow and whiskey gold, across dingy buildings and lonesome streets. The kind of city that only shows its true secrets to those too corrupt to play the game without knowing everyone else’s cards. The kind of city that thrives on wasted dreams and broken songs.

Essa Trevelyan was never foolish enough to think she knew the faces of her enemies, but here at the end of the longest, most dangerous game of her life, she’s tired of not knowing who her friends are. This town is going to be the death of her if she isn’t careful, but Essa came to Kirkwall with a mission, and she won’t stop until vengeance is done.

She wears violence like a fine bespoke suit, all sharp lines and deadly curves. If you asked him, Cullen couldn’t tell you why he’s drawn to a woman with a list of sins as long and dark as his own. Essa is remorseless in ways he can no longer afford to be, even if he wanted to, but there’s something honest hiding in the flat stare of her wide grey eyes. Something that hints at life beyond the shadows, something that makes Cullen restless and reckless, two things he can never afford to be.

  2. Summary

From the Private Letters of Essa Trevelyan:

I was made warrior by my father, mage by Desire, and apostate by Rage. I spent ten years in a cage of my own choosing, learning to bind my demons and the demons of others. When the sky tore and I stumbled out of too many deaths, the people of Thedas whispered that Andraste had made me her Herald. Now, by some turn of absolute madness, I have been made Inquisitor.

This will not be the whole of my story.

Essa Trevelyan isn’t exactly used to people, being raised mostly by a mabari will do that. Nearly a decade in a mage tower certainly didn't help, where she occupied an isolated and ruthless space between her fellow mages and the templars who guarded them. For all her connection to the Fade, Essa has never seen herself as anything but a warrior. Had her magic not manifest—late and tragically—she would be a mercenary even now and not the Herald of Andraste.

    Whatever that’s supposed to mean.

    Summary

The Stone Gryphon is a sprawling Spare Oom story of war, espionage, immoral acts done in service of moral ends, natural history, dinosaurs, Alice in Wonderland, cunning corvids, tequila, D-Day, theology, spirituality, love and sex. If the Dawn Treader can be on the wall of a spare bedroom in Impington, Narnia can be found in other places, too. The Friends of Narnia just have to learn where to look. And upon returning from Narnia, the Pevensies probably didn't just sit around waiting to die in a fiery train wreck.

"No, no! The adventures first," said the Gryphon in an impatient tone: "explanations take such a dreadful time."
    L. Carroll, The Adventures of Alice In Wonderland

"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible."
    Francis of Assisi

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

    Summary

His hands were always warm, she found. The small crisscrossing scars that shaped his knuckles were dusted with fine blond hair, some old and others fresher than they should've been. Her life had been a palace surrounded by gardens, a windowless building filled with sharp swords, a castle built into the mountainside. His had been harder, carved into those hands, more sharp swords and fierce duty but at a different end than she was. It wasn't supposed to be this way, Templars and mages didn't fall in love.

(A novelization of the Cullen romance built around the given scenes and comprised of extra ones.)

    Summary

A big, sweeping tale of two mature people coming together and trying to make it work, despite their pasts. Told in the Inquisition's own words, through letters, personal journal entries, and reports.

Humor, sex, friendship, and most of all, romance. My Inquisitor is a capable and slightly odd mage, who finds herself in a strange dance with a good man, who wants only to atone for his past and build a new life for himself. Can people whose lives were forever altered by the Circles truly find a future together?
