"Does anybody have a crush on me?"
Jester turns to her, grinning, the corners of her eyes crinkled with a look of fond expectancy.
But Beau can't say anything.
(or: what if Beauregard hadn't succeeded on the Zone of Truth save?)

Summary
Greer fits Shaw for a neural transmitter and her world turns to crap. Used as Samaritan's guinea pig, Shaw's brain's chemistry is forcibly altered and she's left to face the world without any of her usual defenses. Under such circumstances, even rescue doesn't bring the happy ending she'd want. Shaw is forced to find her way, rebuild with the Team, rebuild with Root, and find a new way to a good end.

Summary
What the might the movie have been like with: actual Clint Barton (single bro awesome dork style), actual Natasha Romanoff (none of that kids BS), and awkward Brutasha explained. A redo of the AoU farm scene that preserves most of the original dialogue while making some, er, corrections (and throwing is some Fraction Hawkeye-style cameos), and (hopefully) preserving the larger plot and themes of the movie. In fact, letting Clint defend what makes his dorky, single, useless-at-first-glance self so vital to the Avengers would have played nicely into his "You walk out that door . . ." speech at the end of the movie.
The result? Well, you decide, but with this head canon firmly in place, I have begun to sincerely enjoy AoU.- Language:

Summary
Clint Barton's snap decision to re-interpret his mission orders means a new life for Natalia Romanova. She's only got the one shot at it, though, and "how to live and remake yourself in three easy steps" was never included in her assassin training.
