    Summary

A moderately in-depth analysis of the psychological effects of events which would be expected to drastically alter a person or characters relationship to their body, including factors relating to acceptance and likely effects of varying levels of body change acceptance. Written from a Cognitive Behavioral Theory viewpoint, but I’ve tried to make it as generally accessible as possible. I’ve used the MCU Avengers Phase 1 as my primary point of reference with occasional references to other fandoms and no Phase 2 spoilers.

I plan to update this when/if my theory develops further, or to respond to questions from anyone who has them.

EDIT: There's a YouTube video now! It covers much of the same material, but not all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ftJeQ8jRKM&t=1132s

    Summary

The world keeps pushing him, demanding, because what he did wasn't ever enough. Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, but that wasn't enough, wasn't ever enough.

Tony Stark was tired. But he had a planet to protect, even if everyone laughed at him whenever the prospect of alien invasions was brought up. He could count on one hand how many people he could trust, which was disheartening but then, what else was new?

    Or,

In which Tony does not, in fact, intend to take over the world.

...unfortunately, everyone else missed that particular memo.

[gradual divergence from canon, starting at the end of Iron Man 3. In which it's Tony's self-awareness, rather than his support system and/or self-confidence, that becomes a cryptid sometime during Phase II.]

    Summary

‘I get flashes,’ Donna said, stirring her coffee. ‘Pictures, mostly. Of these – impossible things. Aliens in London. Shadows that move. A giant wasp, of all things. And there’s someone I need to find. A man, I think. I don’t remember what he looks like.’ She prodded at her pie morosely. ‘What about you?’

‘Fragments,’ he said. He had refused her offer of food or drink and was sitting opposite her in the booth of the little café outside the museum, staring a little blankly, hood pushed back to reveal unkempt dark hair that fell to his shoulders and bright blue eyes, ringed by shadow. ‘Like when you know a word’s just on the tip of your tongue but you can’t quite find it.’

Bucky needs a friend. So does Donna. This is going to end well.

    Summary

A superhero walks into a room full of villains- and they play poker and give him a drink. After all, it's the polite thing to do. Only then they get to liking him, and all of a sudden they're slaying dragons for the good guys. It's very disconcerting, but kind of nice.
