He disliked them, some migraine-inducingly sweet while others started off as bitter and sour, hurting his teeth. He didn’t remember when it happened, couldn’t pinpoint an age for himself, but when she stopped giving him candy, he stopped eating it altogether.

    When he ate it again, he was 17.
