Very in-depth, character-focused exploration of the Dalish origin/warden, of all DA:O companions, and their relationship dynamics during the Fifth Blight. Follows and expands on canon events; AU in some ways. Multiple POV's and pairings. Slow burn af.
This is a COMPLETELY new rewritten and revised version of my story, originally posted on Fanfiction.net. Please see the individual chapter notes for more information about what had been changed. It starts with Lenya Mahariel, reluctant Dalish Grey Warden and her journey in the world of Thedas, during the Blight and afterwards. And (hopefully) later on will also include Mia Hawke, Warrior, smartass and Champion Of Kirkwall, as well as Sareyn Lavellan as Inquisitor. Because ladies run the (my) world.

Summary

A deadly encounter with a noble human sparked off a journey Caden never expected, tearing her from her family in the process. Caden must learn to trust again, battling her demons from her previous life, possibly even finding a new family if she can stop resisting her fellow Wardens attempts at kindness.
(Content Warning: there is an attempted sexual assault early on as per the city elf origin details, and it leads to some flashbacks throughout the story)

Normally i avoid cousland/alistair stories like the plague, bc fandom made it to a notp for me over the years with shitty tropes/characterization, and the hyperfocus on being royal/becoming king/queen as the only "correct" ending for warden/alistair as a whole (not just cousland/alistair.)
This writer however gets it all right, and portrays Alistair as competent, snarky and comfortable in his skin during intimacy (and outside of it, in other fics). Stellar banter and descriptions too, which makes this established relationship smut with feelings to a joy to read.
