Iruka nods grimly, setting his teeth.
He places one hand in the sigil circle, and the other in the glowing red pan of coals.
He doesn’t scream, but clenches his teeth until his jaw cracks.
For Kakashi.
I can do it for Kakashi.
In front of him, the fish gives the smallest twitch.

Kakashi dies, and Iruka refuses to let that be the end of their story. By any means necessary, even if that means digging up the head of a madman and turning to the cult of Jashin.

Because she'd bribed him, and bribed him good, he thought with a sigh. A month's rent, covered, and she'd watch any movie he wanted with him, any night of the week, for a year. Cuddles allowed (though let's be real, that was a given). Plus a third of all ticket sales into Iruka's own pocket, with another third going to the orphanage. God, he was such a sucker.
Or, the time Iruka agreed to do a kissing booth at the Academy for Valentine's Day.
