Summary
Two young boys with wildly different circumstances meet and grow up together, eventually falling in love. But they can't hide away in their bubble forever. The war calls Steve to enlist, starting him on the path to becoming Captain American, just as the monsters from Bucky's past steal him away.
"Are you a demon?" Steve rasped, working his jaw.
The boy frowned, shaking his head, which made the horns—because what else could you call them—more visible. His hair parted over one, and Steve could see the weathered-looking nub peeking out.
"I wouldn't be in a church if I were a demon. I'm just—I'm just something else. Nothing bad, though. I won't hurt ya."
And maybe it made him crazy for believing him, but he did. Something about the boy just seemed a little sad, perhaps even lonely.
"I ain't ever seen someone with horns before."
"Well, I ain't ever seen someone so scrawny before, so I guess we're even."

Summary
In the field, Steve makes the calls, but at home, it's Bucky. So after a mission goes wrong, leaving innocent blood on Steve's hands, he misinterprets things, thinking he's being punished for screwing up, instead of hearing what Bucky is saying and trusting his words.
Stubborn Steve pushes himself too far, too caught up in the belief that Bucky must want him to suffer and learn a lesson, but that is so far from what Bucky intends, which leads to Bucky calling the scene and providing some comfort.

Some angst, some softness, and some wetting--though nothing sexual this time. Just the two boys taking care of each other.

And sometimes, they all have their moments where communication goes wrong, conversations get heated, and regrettable things are said, and this time is no different.
Except maybe it is.
Because Bucky doesn't know about the things Tony has been through in his last serious relationship. So when he does something that scares Tony, sending him into a tailspin, he can only call Steve for advice, who explains some of what Tony has been through.

Summary
A hand went to his muzzle, deft fingers digging under the firm leather, and it was yanked free.
A shower of tulip petals burst from the mask, raining down to the pavement in a cascade of red satin. The Soldier was unperturbed. The tulips were his life, one of his only constants. He knew the tulips better than he knew most anything else. His ever-present companions.
But the look of horror on the golden man’s face spoke untold stories, deep secrets that the Soldier had heard whispers of in his head only when he was the most alone.

Summary
It’s the eyes that do it. Molten silver in the moonlight. Steve could never forget them.
He stands up straighter, and his fear bleeds away. “You.”
The man stops a few paces from Steve, eyes flicking around his face as if in search of something. “Me,” he says. His voice is low, soft as velvet. Steve knows from one word that he would listen to this man talk for hours.
“From the train,” Steve says as he shifts his weight to one leg. “Like a week ago?”
The man cracks a slow smile that makes his eyes shine. The barest hint of his sharp canines peeks between his full lips. “From the train. Yeah. Didn’t think I’d ever run into you again.”
“Yeah, I…,” Steve murmurs, lips parted as he looks for words, any words to convey the strange feeling in his chest. It feels like the culmination of searching for someone you never knew, or that maybe you did a lifetime ago. He doesn’t know this man’s name, but he feels like he should. And he wants to, so badly he can’t think around it. “I’m Steve.”
The man’s smile brightens, and he seems to relax. “Bucky."
