“You’ve been shopping, but not for groceries. You don’t have much in the way of funds, so something cheap, but not an impulse purchase—you’re much too disciplined for that. Something-”

John puts down the plastic bag on the coffee table.

A palpable shift occurs in the air.

“...You bought a puzzle from a charity shop,” Sherlock states.

    Summary

The ongoing development of Christopher Pike, post-Narada. --- With the new movie in 2013, this story line is an AU.

Starts with Chris Pike becoming a part of the relationship of the established couple Leonard McCoy and Jim Kirk and moves on from there to his unexpected relationship with the much younger, queer, almost FtM Dael (which begins in "Fire Dancing"), and finally to the establishing of a true foursome relationship, not without troubles on the way.

Main themes: a) Poly relationships between adults who all try their best to solve the problems that come with long-distance relationships, jobs in the fleet, and Pike's ongoing health troubles.
    b) The eternal quest for truth, its relativity, the flexibility of our memories, the differences between self-perception and how others see us, and the incredible potential for healing that we all have.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Brilliant, chilling, painstakingly interwoven tapestry of intellect and introspection, violins and violence, bitter loss and rough-budding love, Bach and BDSM. This is a harsh, harsh story in themes and imagery -- sensitive readers beware -- but the beauty, oh, the beauty! I can't rave enough about the subtlety and sensitivity of Eldritchhorrors' descriptions; sumptuous merely in physical detail, but so much conveyed between the lines, in the precision of what Sherlock sees and how he describes it.

Sherlock is complex and finely drawn, breaking your heart with every utterly unique and Sherlockian thing he does in response to the shattering of his inner landscape. John is transcendent in his shaken strength, his fierce compassion, his extra-ordinary groundedness in the midst of the mortally dangerous storm that has blown in from Sherlock's past. A must-read!

Following The Great Game, Sherlock tries to puzzle out a few things about John.

Teaser: Sherlock blinks, re-focusing on John instead of the past. Amused annoyance, he identifies in the quirk of John's mouth and his folded arms. A perfect shot that he can't have had much time to aim, taken with his off-hand. Movement as soon as Sherlock squeezed the trigger.

Hard-edged and hot, this is a viciously delicious tale of teenaged Leonard McCoy (of the Georgia McCoys) welcoming the infamous Commander Pike to his family's time-honored Derby garden party -- and negotiating in the finest Mirrorverse fashion to get Pike to adopt him as a protege.
