Hooooo boy, this is a weird one. Basically while rewatching Chernobyl immediately after rewatching Nirvana in Fire I was bitten by a brain worm (beetle?) that is forcing me to write a cold war/Sino-Soviet Split AU where all my favorite characters help defeat the authoritarian communists AND the capitalists. This fic has a very niche intended audience of other terminally online leftist NIF fans, but you don't strictly speaking need to know any of the historical references to enjoy the story :)

Except, there's something very suspicious going on in the Imperial Palace, and while Wei Wuxian might not be able to help Lan Wangji in solving it, the unassuming and soft-spoken "Prince-Concubine Mo" sure can.

Summary
After the Fall of Eregion, many enchanted objects fell into the wrong hands as scavengers and treasure seekers descended upon the ruined city.
When reports of these objects surface, it is Erestor’s job to reclaim them. It’s a nice job. Lovely scenery, no more watching his king flirt with his lord, and he gets to leave the paperwork to lesser immortals.
It would be better, however, if Elrond had not ordered him to let a certain recently-reborn elf lord tag along...
OR Erestor and Glorfindel’s backpacking trip of sadness and emotional support.

Summary
And so came it to pass that Durin the Deathless, First of Dwarrow-kind, the Eldest of the Seven Fathers, King of Khazad-dûm, found himself unrelentingly bound to a small chunk of blue stone pocketed by one Belladonna Took on her journey home from a well accomplished adventure.
Years, and multiple adventures later, Belladonna Took – by then Belladonna Baggins – settled into Bag End, and gave birth to a child named Bilbo Baggins, to whom this stone was always meant to belong.
It is with this one small Hobbit that the ghostly Durin is to change the tides of Middle Earth, save his legacy, and rewrite this unwritten history before them.
Additionally/And/Or: In which Durin the Deathless does not accept the finality of his lineage and submits his complaints to Mahal and Yavanna.
Becoming glued to a rock and a Hobbit was not part of his request, but he was Too Vague and forgot to Read the Fine Print.
Also, Hobbits are far too endearing even to Ancient Mostly Dead Monarchs.
Finally, and most importantly, to any Dwarf asking, it isn't technically breaking any rules if the ghost beside you works as a translator for super secret Dwarvish languages.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins, blessed by Yavanna while still in his mother's womb, had a strong love for nature. With that love came the ability to make things grow, an ability that lent itself to many things: gardening, floristry, and unfortunately, adventuring.
A re-telling of The Hobbit, but with a smidge more magic than is probably necessary.
